Key BJP leader Baburao Chinchansur joins Congress just before Karnataka polls

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Two days after resigning from the Karnataka legislative council, BJP legislator Baburao Chinchansur on Wednesday joined the Congress.

Two weeks ago, another BJP legislator, Puttanna, too had resigned from the council and the party, and joined the Congress.

Chinchansur, who had played a key role in the defeat of Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge from Gulbarga Lok Sabha constituency in 2019, returned today to the Kharge-led Congress.

According to Congress state president D K Shivakumar, Chinchansur had expressed his desire to join the party on Ugadi, the new year day observed according to the Hindu calendar in Karnataka.

“Today, Baburao Chinchansur who comes from Mallikarjun Kharge’s home district has joined the Congress reposing faith in Kharge’s leadership. I welcome him to the party,” Shivakumar said.

Chinchansur had been a Congress man till 2018 and served as a minister in the Siddaramaiah government from 2013 to 2016. After his defeat in the 2018 assembly election, he joined the BJP and played a key role in defeating Kharge at the hands of BJP candidate Umesh Jadhav.

Besides lauding the leadership of Kharge, Chinchansur also expressed his gratitude to Shivakumar. “For the favour he has done for me, I will remain indebted to him in my next seven births,” Chinchansur said.

He also vowed that he would ensure that the Congress would win at least 20 to 25 seats in the Kalyana Karnataka region bordering Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the upcoming assembly elections.

“I will demonstrate the strength of Baburao Chinchansur to the people of Karnataka in 2023,” the new entrant to the Congress said.

To a question regarding his differences with Kharge, Chinchansur said his fight with the Congress president was like the one between a father and a son, which has now been resolved.

  • Failing to secure job, educated youth from Kulgam joins archaic ‘Aab-e-Grate’ work for livelihood

Failing to secure job, educated youth from Kulgam joins archaic ‘Aab-e-Grate’ work for livelihood

    [ad_1]

    Umaisar Gull Ganie

Kulgam, Mar 17: An educated youth from south Kashmir’s Kulgam, after failing to secure a job, finally joined his family’s decades-old work of running a watermill, locally known as ‘Aab-e-Gratte’.

This mill, now obsolete, has been running in Kashmir for centuries and is powered by fast-flowing water channeled from streams that turn the heavy grindstones, producing pure flour.

Showkat Ahmad Padder, a resident of Bathipora Nehama hamlet of Kulgam, is pursuing Masters in Political Science.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Showkat said he failed to get any job amid rising unemployment. “So, I decided to operate the watermill that was being run by my family for decades. This way I will keep the tradition alive and also earn some money whatever it is,” he said.

Being jobless, I would have slipped into depression, but I decided to operate the watermill to earn a livelihood, he said.

His neighbour, Ghulam Qadir Padder, who is also operating the ‘Gratte’ for decades, said it is environment-friendly but largely forgotten due to rapid industrialisation and technology. He said ‘Aab-e-Gratte’ is rapidly losing the demand to the modern mills.

Qadir said a ‘Gratte’ owner had a better social status in the village as the family could afford both food grains and earn money as a service charge on grinding. Such traditional watermills are rare now, he said—(KNO)

  • Maha: Top Thackeray aide Subhash Desai’s son joins Shinde’s party

Maha: Top Thackeray aide Subhash Desai’s son joins Shinde’s party

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: In a big jolt to the Shiv Sena-UBT, party leader Subhash Desai’s son Bhushan Desai on Monday joined the Shiv Sena headed by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Soon afterward, Desai, a close confidante of the late Balasaheb Thackeray, and his son and former CM Uddhav Thackeray and the family for over five decades, expressed anguish over his son’s move to join the Shiv Sena, and asserted how “he (Bhushan) has nothing to do with either politics or Shiv Sena”.

“This is very painful news for me. His (Bhushan) joining any party will not have any impact on the Shiv Sena-UBT. My loyalty to the ‘Matoshri’ will not be shaken. At this age, I cannot say much, but henceforth I shall continue my work along with many Shiv Sainiks till complete justice is done and the party regains its past glory,” Desai, also served as a minister in the erstwhile Maha Vikas Aghadi government which was toppled by Shinde after the rebellion in June 2022, said.

Shinde and other Sena leaders welcomed Bhushan Desai to the party fold at a function this evening.

On his entry to the Sena, Bhushan Desai told media persons that he was “impressed by the functioning style of CM Shinde” and claimed that after discussing it with his father, he decided to join the party.

“I had made up my mind to join the Shiv Sena which runs on the ideals of the late Hindu HridaySamrat Balasaheb Thackeray I shall take up whatever responsibility the party gives me,” he said.

Shinde and other senior leaders lauded Bhushan Desai for his move, offering him a party flag and other symbols marking his entry to the Shiv Sena.

  • NC delegation joins protesting students, JKSSB aspirants

    [ad_1]

Demands banning of tainted APTECH company, rues unbending attitude of administration

Srinagar, Mar 9 (GNS): National Conference on Thursday expressed dismay over the government’s non-serious attitude towards the grievances of students and JKSSB aspirants protesting against hiring tainted APTECH firm for conducting professional exams.

With the chorus for banning APTECH getting louder, YNC Provincial President Salman Ali Sagar, Provincial Vice President Ahsan Pardesi, Provincial Spokesperson Ifra Jan and YNC functionaries joined the peaceful sit-in of the JKSSB aspirant’s at the press enclave Srinagar.

While expressing solidarity with the aggrieved aspirants, they said, “The unbending attitude of the government had pushed the aggrieved aspirants to take to the streets in protest. Nothing significant is being done to allay the apprehensions of the job aspirants, it seems that the government doesn’t give two hoots about what our educated youth are going through. Far from reaching out to aggrieved aspirants, the administration is resorting to highhandedness. In doing so the administration is letting slip to its real face. Why is the future of hundreds of job aspirants being put into the hands of those who lack credibility?”

Demanding that the LG administration should rise to the occasion and take necessary measures for the larger benefit of the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, the functionaries said, “We are concerned about the future of our youth as they are crossing the age limit due to the failure of the administration to complete the recruitment process on time. How many times they have to appear for the same exam time and again,” adding, “Our youth are submitting forms, paying money. Why should they pay hefty amounts for a blacklisted company? The decision of the government to continue with the blacklisted company reveals how deeply entrenched corruption is in Jammu and Kashmir and how alienated the government is from the issues concerning people, particularly unemployed and educated youth.”

They demanded that the JKSSB should conduct the exams by utilizing the services of credible agencies. (GNS)
