‘Exposes love jihad..’: ‘The Kerala Story’ made tax-free in MP, announces Chouhan

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday announced to give tax-free status to ‘The Kerala Story’ in the state, a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi credited the movie for bringing out terror conspiracies and used it to attack the Congress during a rally in Karnataka.

“We have already made a law against religious conversion in Madhya Pradesh. Since this film creates awareness, everyone should watch this film. Parents, children and daughters should watch it. That’s why the Madhya Pradesh government is giving tax-free status to the movie The Kerala Story’,” Chouhan said.

The CM said that the film exposes the conspiracies of love jihad’, religious conversion and terrorism and its “hideous” face.

Love jihad’ is a term often used by right-wing activists to allege a ploy by Muslim men to lure Hindu women into religious conversion through marriage.

This film tells how the daughters ruin their lives after getting entangled in the web of love jihad’ due to momentary sentimentality, said Chouhan and added, “This film also exposes the design of terrorism.”

In a rally in Ballari in poll-bound Karnataka, PM Modi said on Friday, “Such a beautiful state of the country, where people are hardworking and talented. The Kerala Story’ film brings out terror conspiracies happening in that state.”

“It is unfortunate that Congress can be seen standing with this terror trend that is seeking to ruin the country. Congress is even indulging in backdoor political bargaining with people having terror inclinations. People of Karnataka should be cautious about Congress,” added Modi.

Karnataka votes for a new assembly on May 10. The results will be announced on May 13.

‘The Kerala Story’ is Sangh Parivar’s ‘love jihad’ propaganda..: CM Vijayan

    [ad_1]

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday slammed the makers of ‘The Kerala Story’ film, saying they were taking up the Sangh Parivar propaganda of projecting the state as a centre of religious extremism by raising the issue of ‘love jihad’ — a concept rejected by the courts, probe agencies and even the Union Home Ministry.

Vijayan said that the trailer of the Hindi film, at first glance, appears to be “deliberately produced” with the alleged aim of creating communal polarisation and spreading hate propaganda against the state.

He said that despite the issue of ‘love jihad’ being rejected by probe agencies, courts and the MHA, it was being raised in connection with Kerala as the main premise of the film only to humiliate the state in front of the world.

The CM, in a statement, said that such propaganda films and the alienation of Muslims depicted in them should be viewed in the context of Sangh Parivar’s efforts to gain political advantage in Kerala.

He also accused the Sangh Parivar of trying to destroy the religious harmony in the state by “sowing the poisonous seeds of communalism”. A couple of days ago, both the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala and the opposition Congress hit out at the controversial upcoming movie ‘The Kerala Story’, saying freedom of expression was not a licence to spew venom in society, and the film was an attempt to destroy the communal harmony of the state.

‘The Kerala Story’, written and directed by Sudipto Sen, is portrayed as “unearthing” the events behind “approximately 32,000 women” allegedly going missing in the southern state. The film falsely claims they converted, got radicalised and were deployed in terror missions in India and the world.

  • HC rejects ‘love jihad’ claim, says interfaith relations can’t have religious angle by default

HC rejects ‘love jihad’ claim, says interfaith relations can’t have religious angle by default

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: A relationship cannot be dubbed as a form of ‘love jihad’ just because the boy and the girl belong to different religions, the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court has said while granting pre-arrest bail to a Muslim woman and her family.

A division bench of Justices Vibha Kankanwadi and Abhay Waghwase in the order passed on February 26 granted anticipatory bail to the accused who were denied relief by a local court in Aurangabad.

The woman’s former lover had alleged she and her family forced him to convert to Islam and undergo circumcision.

The man’s lawyer, while opposing the pre-arrest bail applications of the woman and her family members, also argued that it was a case of `love jihad’.

‘Love jihad’ is a term used by Hindu right-wing organisations to claim, without evidence, that there is a widespread conspiracy to lure Hindu women and convert them to Islam through marriage.

Here, though, the accuser was a man.

The high court rejected the love jihad argument, pointing out that the man, in the First Information Report (FIR), had admitted he was in a relationship with the woman and did not end the relationship despite having several opportunities.

“Merely because the boy and girl are from different religions, it cannot have a religious angle. It can be a case of pure love for each other,” the court said.

“It appears that now the colour has been tried to be given of love jihad, but when love is accepted then there is less possibility of the person being trapped just for converting him into the other’s religion,” it added.

As per the prosecution case, the man and the woman were in a relationship since March 2018. The man belonged to a Scheduled Caste community, but did not disclose this to the woman.

Later, the woman began insisting he should convert to Islam and marry her, after which the man disclosed his caste identity to her parents. They did not object to his caste identity and convinced their daughter to accept it.

But the relations later turned sour, following which the man lodged a case against the woman and her family in December 2022.

The HC, while granting pre-arrest bail to the woman and her family, said the probe into the case was almost over and hence their custody would not be necessary.

Kerala: Complaint against Christian group for event on love, narcotic ‘jihad’

    [ad_1]

A complaint has been filed by the Student Islamic Organization (SIO) against Christian Association and Alliance for Social Action (CASA) for discussing topics that evoked hatred against the Muslim community in Kerala.

On February 26, CASA organised an awareness event in Pulpally, Wayanad district that spoke about ‘Love Jihad’, ‘Narcotic Jihad’ and child abuse. The audience attendance included school-going children.

Wayanad district officials Jyotish P T and A B Joy conducted the session. It shared the details of the events on its official Facebook page. It has several other posters and photos that feature campaigns against the Muslim community.

The complaint was filed by SIO Wayanad district president Muneeb N A Pulpally, who demanded strict action against those spreading communal hatred in the society.

Meanwhile, CASA Kasargod, on its official Instagram page has posted a reel that stated it will bring more ‘awareness’ towards ‘Love Jihad’, ‘Narcotic Jihad’ and child abuse and no one can stop them.

“We know what to teach our children. A Muslim Islamic organisation need not interfere. At least, we do not teach them how to cut a hand or behead a person. We will continue teaching or bringing awareness to subjects such as Love Jihad, Narcotic Jihad and child abuse around Kerala whenever we are given permission. No SIO can stop us from doing so,” CASA Kasargod stated.

Telangana govt supporting ‘love jihad’: VHP, Bajrang Dal protest medico’s suicide

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Monday protested against Telangana Government over the death of Warangal PG medical student Dr. Preethi.

“The incompetent government’s rule is supporting rapes and love jihads. There have been many such incidents in the past and the actions of love-jihad extremists are increasing day by day with the government’s backing. Kakatiya Medical student D Preethi passed away at 9:10 PM on Sunday due to Saif. Bajrang dal condemns this incident,” said Bajrang Dal Telangana state convener Sivaramulu.

The effigy of the government was burnt at Koti Crossroads in the presence of Bajrang Dal. A protest was conducted in the Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda by VHP’s Durga Vahini, the female wing.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Monday staged a protest at Kaktiya Medical College in Warangal.

Carrying ABVP flags and raising slogans, the protestors marched towards Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) but were stopped by the police at the main gate. The protestors had an argument with the policemen, triggering tension.

The ABVP men were demanding the suspension of KMC Principal Mohan Das and Head of the Department Nagarjuna Reddy.

26-year-old Preethi, a first-year student of the postgraduate (MD) in the department of Anaesthesia, attempted suicide on February 22 allegedly by taking a lethal injection while on duty at AMGM Hospital. She succumbed at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) on Sunday night.

The police have already arrested Preethi’s senior M. A. Saif, a second-year student in the department of Anaesthesia.

Police said targeted harassment of Preethi by her senior could have driven her to commit suicide.

Police booked Saif for abetment to suicide. He was also booked under the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and Anti-Ragging Act.

Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Sunday remarked that in the case of the Warangal Medico Preethi’s suicide, it is clearly visible that chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is in support of ‘one community’.

Sanjay was indirectly referring to the dead victim’s senior MA Saif, who belongs to the Muslim community and is the main accused in the case. Sanjay in the past had also referred to the case as a clear case of ‘love jihad’.

Protests in Jamshedpur after ‘love jihad’ case surfaces

    [ad_1]

Jamshedpur: Protests were staged in the Kadma area of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand after an alleged case of ‘love jihad’ came to light on Thursday.

The demonstrators, also comprising Hindu outfits, sought “justice” for a 14-year-old minor Hindu girl who lodged a complaint against a Muslim man identified as Shabbir Khan.

The protesters who gathered outside the Kadma police station sought “strict action” against Khan.

The police have registered an FIR in the matter and have assured action.

The minor alleged that she had befriended Khan near her school a month ago, who had identified himself as ‘Sameer’.

Later, when their friendship eventually blossommed into a relationship and they got closer, Sameer, aged around 20, clicked several private pictures with her.

Things went wrong when she came to know that Sameer had concealed his real identity, and that he is a Muslim youth named Shabbir Khan.

She alleged that Khan also put pressure on her to marry him and when she refused, he threatened to make her private pictures and videos public.

The girl also claimed that Khan wanted her to adopt Islam.

Palestinian Islamic Jihad delegation heads to Egypt amid tensions

    [ad_1]

Gaza: A delegation of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) militant group will head to Egypt on Thursday for dialogue on defusing the escalating tensions between Israel and Palestine, an official said.

Dawood Shehab, a PIJ leader from Gaza, told reporters that the group’s secretary-general Ziad Al-Nakhala, at the invitation of Egypt, will lead the delegation to discuss the escalating violence in the West Bank and Jerusalem with Egyptian security intelligence officials.

The meeting comes after a series of deadly incidents in the region.

On January 26, Israeli forces raided the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied northern West Bank and killed nine Palestinians and wounded 16 others.

A day later, a gunman opened fire on people near a synagogue at a Jewish settlement in East Jerusalem, killing at least seven people.

Egypt has been mediating between Israel and the Palestinians and brokered several ceasefire agreements to end hostilities in the region.

  • Surprised over morcha against ‘love jihad’: Shiv Sena

Surprised over morcha against ‘love jihad’: Shiv Sena

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena (UBT) on Monday took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party over right-wing groups taking out a march against “love-jihad” and questioned the need for such a protest when the “so-called Hindutvavadi government” is in power at the Centre and Maharashtra.

In an editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamana, the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena said BJP plays its “trump card” whenever it feels jolts of defeat. Now they have begun the game of playing the Hindu-Muslim card, it said.

Activists of right-wing organisations on Sunday took out a ‘Hindu Jan Akrosh Morcha’ in Mumbai against ‘love jihad’ and demanded anti-conversion laws and a crackdown on land grabbing in the name of religion. Leaders and workers of outfits including the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Bajrang Dal, and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) marched in the rally.

The rally, organised by Sakal Hindu Samaj, began from Shivaji Park in Dadar — where Shiv Sena Bhavan, the headquarters of the UBT faction of the party, is located.

“There is a so-called fierce Hindutvavadi government in the state as well at the Centre. Then how come your (the ones who took out the rally) Hindutva is in danger?

“With Modi-Shah at the Centre, there is a Ramrajya and this state is a heaven for Hindus this is what their (supporters of the BJP) people say. So it is surprising that there was still the ‘Aakrosh’ morcha (rally),” it said.

The Saamana further said taking out such a march would have been logical had the Muslim League been (ruling) the Centre and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) government in Maharashtra.

“If there is a question of love-jihad or forced conversion then there should be a strong law. But whenever elections are around the corner there is a talk of ‘Hindutva being in danger’ in BJP-ruled states,” it said.

If the ‘Aakrosh’ morcha was just for elections, then it is dishonesty towards Hindutva, it said.

It also took a dig at the BJP-led Centre, saying conferring Padma Vibhushan on “Maulana” Mulayam Singh, the late Samajwadi Party patriarch, is an “insult to sacrifices of thousands of karsevaks of the Ram Mandir movement”.

MP: Bajrang Dal members barge into woman’s flat alleging love jihad, friends assaulted

    [ad_1]

Birthday celebrations were ruined for a 24-year-old woman when her flat was attacked by right-wing organisation Bajrang Dal workers alleging love jihad was going on.

The incident took place in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

According to police, the woman was celebrating her birthday with her male friends. The party was suddenly interrupted by a large crowd of Bajrang Dal members, all men.

A video has surfaced where the woman is sitting with her face hidden while one of her friends was assaulted by a Bajarang Dal member.

The right-wing workers soon took the woman and her friends to the MIG police station where they forced her to lodge a complaint. But she refused.

While speaking to reporters sub-inspector Seema Sharma refused to comment on love jihad or religious angle and added that investigations are underway.

“The woman was celebrating her birthday with her male friends. I can’t comment on if there is a religious angle as investigations are still on. There is no complaint lodged by the woman,” the police officer told reporters.
