    SRINAGAR: Jammu-Srinagar national highway has been closed for vehicular traffic due to landslide in the Ramban district, officials said on Friday.

    The landslide occurred in the Shalgiri area of Banihal.

    In a tweet Traffic police informed, “Jammu Srinagar NHW blocked due to landslide at Shalgari, Banihal.”

    SSG Road Closed After Snowfall, Traffic Movement Disrupted On Jammu-Srinagar Highway

    SRINAGAR: Authorities have closed Srinagar-Kargil highway due to fresh snowfall while vehicular movement has been badly affected due to breakdown of a big trailer truck on Jammu-Srinagar national highway at Dalwas, officials said Friday.

    An official said that “up HMVs tail has been delayed due to the breakdown of a big trailer at Dalwas.”

    He advised commuters to cooperate with the traffic officials manning the highway.

    On Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gomri (SSG) road, which connects Ladakh with Kashmir valley, he said that the route has been closed for traffic due to fresh snowfall. Pertinently, the road was partially opened for traffic on Thursday after remaining closed for 11 days due to snow avalanches at Zojila Pass.

    The closure has affected traffic in the area, with commuters advised to find alternative routes. Authorities are working hard to clear the snow and reopen the road as soon as possible, but the process is expected to take some time.

    Meanwhile, the Mughal road continues to remain closed for traffic. The road, which connects Kashmir valley with Rajouri and Poonch regions, remains shut in winters due to heavy snowfall. The road is expected to open for traffic soon as authorities are clearing the snow from the historic road.

     

    The Met department has predicted widespread rains in Kashmir valley today and at isolated places of Jammu. (KDC)

    SRINAGAR: A truck carrying poultry chicken came under a massive landslide along Jammu-Srinagar highway this afternoon leaving two occupants injured, officials said.

    Officials said that a poultry chicken truck on the way from Jammu towards Srinagar came under a massive landslide at Shabanbas area. “Soon after the incident, a rescue operation was launched at the site by a police team alongside NGO ‘Banihal Volunteers’, during which both the truck occupants were rescued in injured conditions”, they said adding both the persons were taken to SDH Banihal for immediate treatment.

    “Given the accumulation of landslide debris, the thoroughfare has been suspended for any vehicular movement till any further directions from the authorities”, they further said. (GNS)

    Traffic Resumes On Jammu-Srinagar Highway After Landslide Debris Cleared

    SRINAGAR: Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only road link connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside world, has been reopened after remaining closed for several hours since overnight due to massive landslide at Hingni Nachlana near Ramsoo along the thoroughfare.

    “After clearance of the debris, passenger traffic has been released from both ends on the highway,” a traffic department official here told GNS. He urged people to “keep lane discipline.”

    A big slide was reported at Hingi Nachlana, Ramsoo around midnight, leading to the closure of the strategic thoroughfare. According to the officials, clearance was taken up which was completed around 10 a.m.

    SRINAGAR: Union Minister for Roads, Highways and Transport, Nitin Gadkari Tuesday said that on the 45 km stretch of Srinagar-Jammu highway, five tunnels will come up of which one has been inaugurated while work on other four is going on. He said once all the tunnels will be completed, the travel distance on Srinagarr-Jammu  highway, the life-life between J&K and the rest of the country will reduce to just three hours.

    Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in Srinagar, Gadkari, who was accompanied by MoS PMO Dr Jitendera Singh, said that of the total 245 km stretch of Srinagar-Jammu highway, there will be five tunnels coming up on 45 km stretch. “Today, we have achieved a breakthrough on one tunnel and next three will be completed by March next year. The fifth tunnel is a bit difficult and that may take a bit of time,” the Union Minister said.

    He said that a resort will also come up on the highway where Kashmiri handicrafts will be showcased. He said once the highway and tunnels will be ready, the road will get connected with the Katra and then to Delhi. “This way, J&K will get connected with the rest of the country,” he said.

    On Monday, Gadkari had stated that in the next ten years, JK roads will match with the United States. “We aim that the Srinagar to Jammu distance will be covered in three hours, Katra to Delhi in six hours and Delhi to Srinagar in 8 hours,” he said, adding that better roads will help socio-economic growth of the J&K UT and generate lots of employment through tourism. “Tourism is set to increase four times once we have quality roads and highways,” he said.     SRINAGAR: Authorities on Thursday announced traffic dry day on Jammu-Srinagar highway from March 10 morning upto March 11 morning.

    “Traffic between Ramban-Banihal on Jammu Srinagar National Highway will be closed on 10th March. Only Doda-Kishtwar Highway will remains open for traffic”, SSP Traffic NHW Ramban.

    “There will be no movement of vehicles from 6 AM on 10th March till 6 AM on 11 March 2023 between Navyuga and Nashri tunnels”,  SSP Traffic said said. (GNS)
