  • In Jammu, 4,46,804 Kanals Land Retrieved: Reports

    SRINAGAR: Acting on the directions of Lt Governor of J&K, a major anti-encroachment drive is currently underway in the Union Territory during which around 4,46,804 kanal State/Kahcharai land under illegal occupation of land mafia and big businessman including ex-MLAs have been retrieved till date in six districts by the respective district administration with the help of police, reported newspaper Daily Excelsior.

    According to report in Rajouri district, the teams of police and revenue officers/officials visited different tehsils including Rajouri, Darhal, Thanamandi, Nowshera, Qila Darhal, Sunderbani, Siot, Kalakote, Terayth, Beripatan, Manjakote, Moughla and Khawas and retrieved 275867 kanals and 12 marlas of state land till date.
    The state land retrieved from the illegal occupants included 7546 kanals and 5 marlas of kacharai land and 268321 kanals and 7 marlas of state land, including Roshni land. Today itself, Tehsildar Teryath recovered 4 kanal prime state land in village Keri, Tehsildar Kalakote and his team retrieved 62 kanal state land in village Kural while 93 kanal land was recovered in village Mangal Dei of Nowshera Tehsil.

    In Poonch district, against 125030 kanal encroached land, 122277 kanal and 8 marlas have been retrieved till date. Similarly, out of total encroached 8530.16 kanal of kahcharai land, 8391 kanal have been retrieved in different parts of the district.

    In the last one week, 7 kanal high value state-land worth Rs 1.80 crores has been retrieved near Mini Secretariat Mendhar. Likewise, 75 Kanals abi-land and 171 Kanal of state land have been retrieved from different encroachers. Another parcel of 207 kanal of land retrieved from different encroachers at Mendhar. In Tehsil Mandi, 370 Kanal of land was retrieved while around 75 kanal land worth Rs 1.87 crore encroached by an Ex MLA has also been retrieved in Lassana.

    Till date, Kishtwar district administration has retrieved state land including Roshini land measuring around 47552 kanal and 8.5 Marla out of the total 64192 Kanal encroached State/Roshini land in the district. A joint anti-encroachment drive was also today launched under the supervision of Tehsildar Kishtwar Umar Muneeb. The team retrieved long occupied common land at the prime location of Hidyal Pond, Kishtwar.

    In Kulgam district, the district administration has retrieved State land including Roshini land measuring around 47552 kanal and 8.5 marla out of a total of 64192 kanal of encroached State/Roshini land in the district till date. Under Kahcharai land, a total of 384 kanal and 6 marla land has been retrieved out of the total encroached 572 kanal of land.

    In Udhampur district, an anti encroachment drive was conducted today at village Chakhar, Narsoo, Mand and village Tikri of tehsil Udhampur. During the drive, 76 kanal and 5 marla land was restored from illegal encroachers in village Chakhar, while prime land measuring 20 kanal was retrieved in village Narsoo, 60 kanal at Mand and 37 kanal at Tikri.

    In Sub Division Chenani, 59 kanal and 11 marla of State land at prime locations were retrieved in village Ancha and Batna while at village Khoon of Tehsil Majalta, 65 kanal of kahcharai and state land was retrieved at prime locations near Dhar Road.

    District Administration Samba today retrieved prime commercial Roshni land near Mansar Morh on National Highway. The illegal possession was retrieved after a day-long anti encroachment drive. A JCB Machine was deployed for dismantling the RCC structures, boundary walls, pavements etc constructed on the land.

    Revenue officers informed that Roshni land measuring 3 Kanal under Khasra number 97/66 and 3 kanal and 4 marla under Khasra number 97/66 have been retrieved, reported newspaper Daily Excelsior.

    SRINAGAR: The fresh snowfall has disrupted the electricity supply in many parts of Kashmir, especially in northern districts while the authorities in Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) Monday said that only four 33 KV lines are under fault stressing that all the 33 KV feeders will be charged by evening.

    Quoting an official statement, news agency KNO reported that at present 14 feeders of 33 KV lines, 215 11 KV feeders and other tap lines were under fault due to snowfall.

    “Due to heavy snowfall during the intervening night of 30th Jan, electric supply to many areas of Kashmir Valley got disrupted. The load of the whole valley dipped below 850 MWs during the early morning hours of 30th Jan, 2022.”

    The statement added that out of total 33 KV feeders, 14 were under fault along with four 33 KV Taplines which affected the power supply mainly to Sopore, Kupwara and Handwara.

    It added that a few portions of District Budgam and of District Anantnag were also affected due to outage of four of 33 KV lines out of 14.

    “In addition to that, around 215 11 KV feeders were under fault due to heavy snowfall.”

    “From early Morning, Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Ltd. field teams under the able guidance of MD, KPDCL Yasin.M.Choudhary were mobilized to rectify the faults.”

    It added that despite the continuous snowfall in the region and braving the extreme freezing temperature, the field teams of KPDCL started patrolling the faulty lines and were able to bring up the load of Kashmir Valley to around 1590 MWs by 3 PM.

    “It is pertinent to mention that at present only four 33 KV lines which specially feed to Sopore Area of District Baramullah and few areas of Bijbehera are under fault and by evening all the 33 KV lines will be charged. Out of all the 11 KV feeders only 154 feeders remain out due to the faulty status of four 33KV lines.”

    MD, KPDCL is himself closely monitoring the situation and assures the public that all the feeders will be up and live. This is the first time that such a quick restoration has happened since the incorporation of KPDCL, it said.

    Managing Director has also praised the patience shown by the public towards the corporation, that may have been affected by the disrupted electric lines that were under faulty since morning and assures the public that field team of KPDCL wont rest till all the feeders are up and running.

  • Govt Suspend Two Doctors Among Five Employees For Unauthorised Absence In Kupwara

    SRINAGAR: Authorities in Kupwara on Monday placed under suspension two doctors and three paramedics for allegedly remaining absent without any authorisation at one of the New Type Primary Health Centres (NTPHCs) in the north Kashmir district.

    Quoting officials news agency GNS reported that on the directions of District Development Commissioner Kupwara, BMO Kupwara suspended the two doctor and three paramedical staffers after they were found absent without any authorisation at NTPHC Gushi during a surprise visit by DC Kupwara at 2:45 p.m.

    Confirming it, BMO Kupwara said that an inquiry has been initiated in this regard.

    SRINAGAR: Kashmir Valley on Monday was cut-off from the rest of the world as snowfall led to the closure of the vital Srinagar-Jammu highway, besides affecting air traffic.

    An official said that due to continuous snowfall since morning, all flights to and from the Srinagar international airport have been cancelled.

    He said that all flights to and from Srinagar airport were delayed in the morning and had to be finally cancelled because the runway clearance at the airport can only be started once it stops snowing.

    “We had 68 sked flights today
    All 68 flights were cancelled due to low visibility and continuous snowfall,” in a tweet Director Srinagar Airport Kuldeep Singh Rishi said.

    SRINAGAR: A girl student was killed and many others injured after being hit by a speeding car on Jammu-Pathankot highway near Barwal area of Kathua district on Monday.

    Quoting an official the news agency KNO reported that a speeding car hit a group of students at Balwal area today.

    “A girl died on the spot, while ten others suffered injuries,” he said, adding the driver of the car was arrested.

    SRINAGAR: Kashmir Valley including Srinagar has been covered in a blanket of snow on Monday and the weatherman has forecast more in the next 12 hours and a gradual decrease from tonight.

    Quoting a meteorological department official news agency GNS reported that widespread moderate to heavy snowfall has been reported in Kashmir and hilly areas of Jammu. Also, moderate rain with thunderstorms were reported in most places of Jammu.

    “Snowfall and rain is very likely to continue for the next 12 hours. Expect a gradual decrease in precipitation from later tonight,” he said.

    On January 31, he said, cloudy weather with light snow and rain was expected in isolated to scattered places.

    Meanwhile, he said, in the last 24 hours till 0830 hours, Srinagar received 12.5 cms of snow, Qazigund 13.0cm, Pahalgam 22.1cm, Kupwara 4.5cm, Kokernag 8.5cm, Gulmarg 30.5cm (above 1 foot), Banihal 0.4 and Bhaderwah 2.0cm.

    Regarding temperature, he said that Srinagar recorded a low of minus 0.2°C against minus 2.4°C on the previous night. Today’s minimum temperature, he said, was above normal by 0.8°C for the summer capital.

    Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of minus 0.1°C against minus 2.8°C on the previous night and it was 2.5°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.

    Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of minus 1.4°C against minus 5.6°C on the previous night and it was 4.7°C above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

    Kokernag recorded a low of minus 0.8°C against minus 2.7°C on the previous night and it was 1.8°C above normal for the place, the officials said.

    Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 4.6°C against minus 7.2°C on the previous night and it was 2.9°C above normal for the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, he said.

    In Kupwara town, he said, the mercury settled at minus 0.4°C against minus 1.0°C on the previous night and it was above 2.1°C below normal for the north Kashmir area.

    Jammu received 8.9mm of rain during the 24 hours and recorded a low of 10.4°C against 7.6°C on the previous night. It was 1.7°C above normal for J&K’s winter capital, he said.

    Banihal received 25.5mm of rain and recorded a low of 0.2°C (above normal by 0.4°C), Batote received 43.6mm and recorded a low of 1.2°C (below normal by 0.5°C), Katra received 17.6mm of rain and recorded a low of 9.0°C (2.1°C above normal) while Bhadarwah received 34.8mm of rain during the time and recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.6°C (0.2°C below normal).

    Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil recorded a low of minus 0.6°C and minus 6.8°C respectively, the official said.

    SRINAGAR: At least seven cattle were charred to death and a residential house damaged in separate fire mishaps in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

    Reports said that a fire broke out in a cow shed, belonging to one Abdul Ahad Malla, at Hak’daji Shiekh Pora in Mawar Qalamabad on intervening Sunday and Monday night.

    The fire incident resulted in charring to death of seven cattle, including two cows and 5 goats even as gutting the cow shed in entirety.

    Station House Officer Qalamabad, Jan Mohammad confirming the incident told news agency GNS that the cause of fire is believed to be heating device (Bukhari).

    “There was no injury or loss of human life in the incident”, the officer further said.

    In a separate incident, a residential house was damaged in a fire mishap in Haihama in Kupwara district this morning.

    As per reports, a residential house belonging to one Wali Mohammad Dar, son of Noor Mohammad Dar was damaged at Dar Mohammad Chalgund in Haihama.

    The fire was contained by the locals as Fire and Emergency Department didn’t reached the site on time.

    SRINAGAR: A tanker driver died in a road accident near Kawbagh in Ramban district on Monday early morning, officials said here.

    Quoting an official the news agency KNO reported that the tanker that was on way from Jammu towards Srinagar met with an accident near Kawbagh this morning.

    He said driver identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad son of Abdul Qayoum Wani, of Wagan Banihal was seriously injured in the accident and later succumb at a hospital.

    The official said police have taken cognizance of the incident.

    “The train service will remain suspended until the snow on the railway line is cleared,” news agency GNS quoted an official as having said.

    “The railway will resume its operations as soon as the snow is cleared. Once it is done, there will be a first trial run and then the regular train is expected to resume. we apologize to the people for the inconvenience,” the official added.
