‘Politics of education’ will defeat BJP’s ‘Politics of jail’ : Sisodia in open letter

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday penned an open letter on ‘Politics of Education’ vs ‘Politics of Jail’ while in custody alleging that BJP’s problem with politics of education is that it “builds nations, not leaders.”

He wrote, “It is much easier to throw political opponents in jail than giving quality education to children. BJP’s real problem with politics of education is that it builds nations, not leaders.”

“Politics of education is not an easy task and definitely not a recipe for political success. Today, politics of jail might be winning under the rule of the BJP, but the future belongs to politics of education,” he wrote.

After CBI, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested the Aam Aadmi Party leader on money laundering charges in connection with alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy, official sources said.

The 51-year-old former Delhi education minister was arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) following his second round of questioning at the Tihar jail, they said.

Sisodia has been in judicial custody since the CBI arrested him on February 26 in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi liquor or excise policy for 2021-22.

The first round of Sisodia’s questioning by the ED took place on March 7.

Earlier, the ED had interrogated the AAP leader on the alleged kickbacks of Rs 100 crore which the party/leaders received through hawala channel from the South Group.

He was also asked about Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Pillai and K. Kavitha — daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Sisodia was arrested on February 26 by the CBI and later remanded in judicial custody by Rouse Avenue District Courts.

  • AAP alleges Sisodia kept with ‘dangerous’ criminals in Tihar jail

AAP alleges Sisodia kept with ‘dangerous’ criminals in Tihar jail

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday expressed concerns over former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s “safety” inside the jail and alleged that he was being kept with “dangerous” criminals, a charge denied by the prison authorities.

AAP national spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that Sisodia is being kept with other criminals in the Tihar Jail and has been refused “vipassana” cell.

He claimed that despite approval from the court, Sisodia has not been provided the “vipassana” cell.

“There was a request for Manish Sisodia to be kept in the vipassana cell of the jail and it was approved by the court. Despite the court’s approval, Sisodia has been kept with other criminals in jail number 1. The Centre must answer why are they doing this,” Bharadwaj said.

Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh lashed out at the BJP and the Centre and alleged that they have been “misusing” central agencies such as the CBI and the ED.

“BJP and the Centre are full of hatred and they have been misusing the central agencies. Every other day there is news of CBI and ED raids on the opposition leaders. They (BJP) are least bothered about education, health, electricity, water and overall progress of the country,” Singh alleged.

He further alleged that Sisodia has been kept with “dangerous” criminals in the jail and that the party leaders have been “worried about his safety”.

Senior AAP leader Dilip Pandey claimed that court orders have been “defied” and Sisodia has been kept with criminals with “dangerous records” inside the Tihar Jail.

“First, Manish Sisodia was mentally tortured by the central agencies and then he has been kept in Tihar’s jail number 1 with criminals with dangerous records. He is also being pressured to sign the papers where false charges have been framed against him,” he alleged.

Rejecting the Aam Aadmi Party’s allegations as “unfounded”, the Delhi Prison authorities on Wednesday said Sisodia has been lodged in a ward of Central Jail No. 1 of Tihar where there are a minimum number of inmates and no gangsters.

In a statement, the prison authorities said, “Manish Sisodia has been assigned to a segregated ward keeping his security in mind. The ward…has minimum number of inmates who are not gangsters and are maintaining good conduct inside the jail.”

According to jail officials, a separate cell makes it possible for him to meditate or do such other activities without any disturbance.

“All the arrangements, as per jail rules, are in place to ensure his safety and security. Any aspersions cast about his lodgings is unfounded,” an official added.

Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in the excise policy scam case. He is currently in judicial custody.

Reacting to the allegations levelled by the AAP, BJP leader Manoj Tiwari charged that the AAP is “trying to mislead” the public as Tihar Jail comes under the Delhi government’s Department of Prisons.

New Delhi: AAP national spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj on Wednesday alleged that party leader Manish Sisodia is being kept with other inmates in jail and has been refused the Vipassana’ cell.

“There was a request for Manish Sisodia to be kept in the vipasana cell of the jail and the same was approved by the court. Despite the court’s approval, Sisodia has been kept with criminals in jail number 1. The Centre must give the answer,” Bharadwaj said.

Sisodia, the former Delhi deputy chief minister and an accused in the excise policy scam, is lodged in a Tihar prison cell for senior citizens.

Officials had earlier said that Sisodia will be lodged inside Tihar Jail Number-1 which is meant for a single person who is a senior citizen.

The court had allowed the senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to carry the Bhagavad Gita, spectacles and medicines to jail, and directed the Tihar authorities to consider his request to be allowed to do Vipassana meditation.

A source said Sisodia brought a copy of the Bhagavad Gita along with him. Other items allowed by the court are yet to be received from his home. Sisodia also received some extra clothes on Tuesday, the source added.

KCR’s daughter will soon go to jail, says BJP leader

    [ad_1]

Tirupati: Telangana BJP leader Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy said on Saturday that Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislator K. Kavitha will soon go to jail in the Delhi liquor policy case.

The former MLA said that Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekha Rao’s daughter and BRS MLA Kavitha will go to jail tomorrow or day after.

Talking to reporters after offering prayers at Sri Venkateswara temple atop Tirumala here, he alleged that Kavitha was a partner in the scam along with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders in Delhi.

Earlier, another BJP leader, G. Vivek, had said that Kavitha will soon be arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the liquor policy case. Vivek had said this after former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI.

Vivek had also claimed that Kavitha had given Rs 150 crore to AAP for Punjab and Gujarat elections.

Reddy on Saturday also said that there is no democracy in Telangana.

“There is family rule and autocracy in Telangana,” Reddy said, as he called for leaders to come together and rise above party lines to overthrow Chief Minister KCR.

The BJP also leader claimed that in the by-election to the Munugode Assembly seat, KCR realised that people have turned against Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and to divert people’s attention, he started a new drama by changing the name of the party to BRS.

Reddy, who was defeated in the by-election, alleged that BRS spent thousands of crores of rupees and misused the official machinery, adding that the ruling party also carried out a false campaign against him that he got money from the BJP for resigning from Congress and joining the saffron camp.

  • With 2 ex-ministers in jail, AAP plans door-to-door campaign

With 2 ex-ministers in jail, AAP plans door-to-door campaign

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi is planning to launch a door-to-door campaign to reach out to the people after two of its former ministers — Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, have landed in prison for their alleged involvement in graft cases.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that all the party leaders, MLAs and workers will go to the public to seek their support.

Addressing the media after a party workers’ gathering, Kejriwal said: “It is enough now. Just like Indira Gandhi had once done too much, they (without mentioning any name) are also doing too much. We will now go door-to-door to reach out to the public. All the leaders will descend on the ground and will go among the people.”

“They are alleging that (his former deputy) Manish Sisodia took money from the liquor company. They raided Sisodia’s house, tore up the mattresses and broke the walls. They even raided Sisodia’s paternal house… but nothing was found.

“If there was any scam of crores of rupees, at least some lakhs of rupees must have been found at his residence. They investigated his bank account and even the locker, but nothing was found. If he had taken crores of rupees, where is that money?” Kejriwal questioned.

The Delhi Chief Minister further said that two persons who brought laurels to India have been jailed by the Prime Minister.

“The excise policy is just an excuse… there was no scam. PM (Narendra Modi) wanted to stop the good work in Delhi. Sisodia was arrested as he did good work in education. Satyendar Jain was arrested as he did good work on health,” the Chief Minister said.

Kejriwal further said: “If Manish Sisodia joins the BJP today, won’t he be released tomorrow? All cases will be withdrawn. If Satyendar Jain joins the BJP today, he will be released from jail tomorrow. The issue is not corruption but to stop work, and send CBI-ED after the opposition.”

The AAP convenor said that not only the party but the whole country is proud of Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain who did exemplary work in their field.

Sisodia presented the model of education while Jain gave the model of primary healthcare. But Prime Minister Modi put such people behind bars, Kejriwal said.

Meanwhile, he ‘assured’ the people of Delhi that despite the arrest of their ministers in ‘false’ cases, the progress and development of Delhi will continue.

7 gangsters booked after two Moosewala murder accused die in jail fight

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: Seven prison inmates were booked Monday after two men held in connection with the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala were killed in a gang fight at Goindwal Sahib Central Jail in Punjab’s Tarn Taran, police said.

Another inmate, also allegedly involved in the singer’s murder last year, was injured in the clash Sunday between the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and the Lawrence Bishnoi gangs.

Both gang leaders are already in jail, booked in connection with the Moosewala murder and other cases.

Iron strips were among the objects used as gang members clashed.

Mandeep Singh alias Toofan of Batala and Manmohan Singh alias Mohna, a resident of Budhlada were killed, police said. The third man, Keshav, was seriously injured.

The FIR named seven jail inmates — Manpreet Singh Bhau, Sachin Bhiwani, Ankit Sirsa, Kashish, Rajinder, Arshad Khan and Malkit Singh.

Five of them, including Ankit and Kashish — who are described as “shooters” — were in jail in connection with the Moosewala murder on May 29 last year.

Mandeep Singh alias Toofan, Manmohan Singh alias Mohna, Keshav, Manpreet Singh, Charanjit Singh and Nirmal Singh had gone to the jail’s block number 1 where the others gangsters were lodged, according to the FIR.

After the fight, Toofan and Mohna were declared brought dead at the Tarn Taran Civil Hospital. Keshav was admitted there.

Police are investigating what triggered the clash between the two groups.

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, was shot dead in Mansa district last year.

As he and two others were driving to Jawahar Ke village, their jeep was intercepted and six men opened fire.

Goldy Brar, who is a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, later claimed responsibility for the murder.

The men booked after Sunday’s clash have been charged under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

Two Moosewala murder accused in killed in Punjab jail clash

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: Two gangsters, involved in the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, succumbed to injuries following in a major clash of gangsters in Goindwal jail in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district on Sunday, officials said.

The deceased were identified as Mandeep Singh, alias Toofan, and Mohan Singh, alias Manmohan Singh. A third jail inmate, Keshav, was also critically wounded in the clash. He was admitted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar.

All three of them have been accused in the Moosewala murder killing.

Toofan was arrested by the anti-gangster task force in September last year. He was also wanted in the killing of another notorious gangster, Ranbir Singh, in a hospital in Amritsar.

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29, 2022.

The clash in jail comes two days after self-styled globe-trotting Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh, who just came to the limelight after returning from Dubai, when his supporters, carrying swords and arms, clashed with the police and forcefully laid a siege on a police station in Ajnala, which led to a scuffle and injuries to several police personnel in Amritsar district.
