Dibrugarh: Amid tight security, Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh was shifted to the Dibrugarh central jail in Assam on Sunday following his arrest in Punjab earlier in the day.

He was flown from Punjab’s Bathinda air base to Dibrugarh’s Mohanbari airport under tight security.

A team of Punjab Police and National Security Agency (NSA) officials arrived in Dibrugarh with the Waris Punjab De chief. A huge team of Assam Police personnel was present at the Mohanbari airport.

The Assam Police have however, refused to issue any official statement on Amritpal’s arrival in Dibrugarh.

Meanwhile, the security cover outside the central jail was beefed up.

Already, a multi-tier security arrangement was in place, but more security personnel were deployed on Sunday.

The general public were not allowed to go near the jail.

Nine other aides of Amritpal Singh, including his close aide Papalpreet and uncle Harjit Singh, have been lodged in the Dibrugarh central jail since last month.

The 30-year-old Waris Punjab De chief who had been on the run since March 18, was arrested on Sunday morning from Rode in Moga district — the native village of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, who was killed in the Indian Army’s Operation Blue Star in 1984.

Amritpal shot to prominence in February after an armed mob led by him clashed with police and laid siege to a police station near Amritsar, demanding the release of one of their colleagues who had been taken into custody in an alleged kidnapping case.

Six policemen were injured in the bloody clash.

Sonia, Rahul will go to jail in National Herald case: Subramanian Swamy

    [ad_1]

Patna: Former Union minister and BJP veteran Subramanian Swamy claimed on Saturday that the Congress top brass, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, will go to jail in the National Herald case.

The case was brought by Swamy, who accused the Gandhis of misusing party funds to buy a firm that published the now-defunct National Herald newspaper.

Attending a conclave of law students here, the ace lawyer-turned-politician said, “Today, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are out on bail. I used to say so many things to Rahul Gandhi but no one sent me to jail.”

    MS Education Academy

When asked if Nitish Kumar will be the prime ministerial candidate of the joint Opposition in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Swami said: “Nitish Kumar is my good friend since the JP movement days, but he never said that he is a prime ministerial candidate. I will meet him today and will talk to him in this regard,” Swamy said.

When asked about India becoming the most populous country in the world and should there be a population control act, Swamy said that he does not believe in such an act, adding that population will be under control if economic growth takes place in the country.

“To reduce population growth, we have to increase economic growth 10 per cent per annum,” said Swamy.

When asked about slogans raised in Patna in favour of slain gangster Atiq Ahmad, Swamy said that India is a democratic country and anyone can say anything. However, those who are raising slogans in favour of Atiq Ahmad are only hurting themselves, he said.

  • Anti-national powers against quality education for Dalits sent Sisodia to jail: Kejriwal

Anti-national powers against quality education for Dalits sent Sisodia to jail: Kejriwal

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said some “anti-national” people in the country sent Manish Sisodia to jail because they do not want quality education for Dalit and underprivileged children.

Kejriwal also said he holds B R Ambedkar in higher regard than Mahatma Gandhi because of his unshakable resolve in the face of adversities in pursuit of education.

Addressing an event to mark Ambedkar Jayanti here, Kejriwal said Ambedkar dreamt of quality education for all in government schools, but “these people ruined government schools in the last 75 years and private schools mushroomed in the country”.

    MS Education Academy

“God sent a man named Manish Sisodia to correct this wrong. He would go on a round of Delhi schools starting at 6 am. He turned things around within five years. We can say Amdekar’s dream is being realized in Delhi.

“But some anti-national powers don’t want the country to progress. Who are these people who do not want Dalit students to get good education. All these people together sent Sisodia to jail. These people are enemies of the country,” he alleged.

He added that those who dared to revolutionize the education sector in the past were imprisoned by autocrats.

Kejriwal said some people also got the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana stalled but he will get the scheme resumed in a month.

Free coaching is given to underprivileged students under the scheme.

The Delhi CM said India gave birth to many great personalities but “Ambedkar was the brightest of them all”.

“We decided to keep photos of Ambedkar and Bhagat Singh in all government offices. Many people said I forgot Gandhiji. No, I did not. I respect Gandhiji a lot. He fought for the country, made sacrifices, he was a great personality but I respect Ambedkar more.

“Ambedkar was born in a very poor family. He faced a lot of trouble in school, but he didn’t stop studying. He went on to study at Columbia University in the US in 1913. You have the internet today. You can search on google. You know about Columbia University. How did he get to know about the university in that era? This perplexes me. This is nothing but magic,” he said.

Amritpal case: SGPC lawyers meet 8 people in Assam’s jail

    [ad_1]

Amritsar: Lawyers of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee on Monday met the eight people detained in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail under the stringent National Security Act after they were nabbed following a crackdown by Punjab Police against radical preacher Amritpal Singh and his aides.

The SGPC is pursuing cases of the eight people who have been detained under the NSA.

SGPC member and senior advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka led the delegation, including advocates Mandeep Singh Sidhu and Rohit Sharma, to Assam.

    MS Education Academy

SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami said following the order of the Jathedar of Akal Takht, the cases of youths imprisoned under the NSA at Dibrugarh are being pursued.

He said SGPC’s legal experts have started their work after visiting the ground.

He informed that legal aid is being provided to the eight people detained at Dibrugarh.

He further said the legal team has prepared a further course of action after meeting the arrested youths and officials of the Dibrugarh jail administration.

Sialka said the District Legal Services Authority and Dibrugarh Bar Association along with local lawyers have supported the SGPC legal team in submitting an application to the Dibrugarh jail administration to meet the eight detained youths.

Advocate Mandeep Singh said the detention orders of the youths and other necessary documents have been provided to the SGPC legal team by jail administration, following which further legal proceedings will be continued.

The Punjab Police had sent eight persons, including Daljeet Kalsi and Basant Singh, to the Dibrugarh jail after charging them under the NSA following a crackdown against preacher Amritpal and his aides.

The Jathedar of Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, had recently asked the state government to revoke the detention of some persons under the NSA and demanded that those who have been sent to Dibrugarh jail in Assam should be brought back to Punjab so that law can take its own course.
