Uorfi Javed issues clarification on her ‘go to hell’ remark against Ranbir Kapoor

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Uorfi Javed and controversies go hand-in-hand. She recently made headlines for saying “go to hell” to actor Ranbir Kapoor.

The whole incident spiralled after Ranbir expressed his views on Urfi Javed’s fashion statement while speaking to Kareena Kapoor Khan on her show ‘What Women Want’ last month.

On the show, Ranbir said he did not like Uorfi’s fashion choice, terming it as “bad taste”. On the other hand, Kareena in one of the interviews heaped praises on Uorfi’s fashion sense.

    MS Education Academy

Uorfi recently spoke to Humans of Bombay, wherein she opened up on Kareena hailing her confidence.

“I was blown away, I couldn’t believe it at first. I thought she might have said something bad and these people are joking with me that she has said something good. But then I saw the video and that day I felt that I have achieved something in life. Kareena Kapoor complimented me, I was like I have achieved a lot,” she said.

She also “sarcastically” took a dig at Ranbir.

“Kareena Kapoor ne meri tareef ki hai! Kareena Kapoor ne! Woh jo gum tha ki Ranbir Kapoor ne bola ‘bad taste,’ maine bola ‘bhaad main jaaye Ranbir Kapoor (I was upset about Ranbir’s comment, but then after Kareena’s compliment, I was like ‘Ranbir can go to hell’). Kareena Kapoor ne meri tarif kar di hai fir kya hai Ranbir ki aukat (Kareena has praised me, I don’t need anyone’s validation or anything)” she added.

However, Uorfi’s remarks on Ranbir did not go down well with his fans. A section of social media users slammed Urfi over the “go to hell” comment.

On Monday, Uorfi took to Instagram Story and shared a string of posts, explaining that she was being sarcastic and didn’t mean that Ranbir Kapoor should literally “go to hell” for his earlier remark on her style being in “bad taste”.

“I never said go to hell Ranbir. I mean… I said it in a very sarcastic and humorous way with no disrespect meant to anyone. And bhaad is not equal to hell,” Uorfi said in a video clip.

In another video, Uorfi Javed said, “Mera sarcasm kisi din mujhe pitwaygi… (laughs)… in short meinkisi din pit jaungi yaar, ya toh mere kapdo ke wajah se ya toh mere baaton ke wajah se (I will be beaten someday either because of my words or outfits.).”

Uorfi rose to fame after featuring in ‘Bigg Boss OTT’ in 2021.

Unruly passengers: DGCA issues advisory to airlines

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Aviation regulator DGCA on Monday issued an advisory to airlines reiterating the existing provisions in place to deal with unruly passengers.

The advisory comes against the backdrop of rising incidents of unruly passengers onboard flights and also on a day when a male passenger was deboarded by Air India from a Delhi-London flight for causing physical harm to two cabin crew members.

In an advisory, DGCA said there are provisions under the Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) for action to be taken by the airline to deal with unruly passengers.

    MS Education Academy

Besides, it said the responsibilities of pilots, cabin crew members and the director of inflight services are also mentioned in the CAR.

DGCA said that in the recent past, it has noticed a few incidents such as smoking in aircraft, consumption of alcoholic beverages resulting in unruly behaviour, altercations between passengers and sometimes inappropriate touching or sexual harassment by the passengers onboard an aircraft during the flight, wherein “post holders, pilots and cabin crew members have failed to take appropriate actions”.

“Such incidents have potential of compromising the safety of aircraft operations,” the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said.

The watchdog has advised the heads of operations of all airlines to sensitise their pilots, cabin crew and post holders on handling of unruly passengers through appropriate means.

The measures can be “but not limited to training programme for ensuring effective monitoring, maintenance of good order and discipline on board the aircraft so that safety of aircraft operations is not jeopardised in any manner,” the advisory said.

DGCA regulations provide for classifying unruly passenger behaviour into three levels and such people can face flying ban for varying periods.

Unruly behaviour such as physical gestures, verbal harassment and unruly inebriation are classified as Level 1 while physically abusive behaviour like pushing, kicking or sexual harassment will be classified as Level 2.

Life threatening behaviour such as damage to aircraft operating systems, physical violence like choking and murderous assault will be considered as Level 3.

Depending on the level of unruly behaviour, an internal committee set up by the airline concerned can decide on the duration for which an unruly passenger can be banned from flying.

On Monday, Air India deboarded an unruly male passenger who caused physical harm to two cabin crew members onboard a Delhi-London flight, which returned to the national capital shortly after departure.

The passenger was handed over to the security personnel after the flight AI 111 landed at the Delhi airport and an FIR has also been lodged with the police, the airline said in a statement.

In a written reply to Rajya Sabha on April 3, Minister of State for Civil Aviation V K Singh said as many as 63 persons were put in the ‘No Fly List’ by airlines in 2022.

  • Hotel occupancy goes up to 80 pc in Shimla, gives rise to traffic, parking issues

Hotel occupancy goes up to 80 pc in Shimla, gives rise to traffic, parking issues

    [ad_1]

Shimla: Occupancy in hotels and homestays has increased to about 80 per cent as tourists from the neighbouring states are making a beeline to Shimla to enjoy the long weekend under the bracing climate.

The influx of tourists in the hill town is causing traffic jams on the main roads, including the Shimla-Kalka National Highway and long queues of vehicles moving at a snail’s pace are causing inconvenience to both the locals and the vacationers.

Vice President of Shimla Hotel and Restaurant Association Prince Kukreja told PTI that the hotel occupancy has increased to about 80 per cent in Shimla and the peak summer tourist season will start from April 15 onwards till June 15.

    MS Education Academy

As temperatures have started rising in the plains the visitor rush is picking up ahead of tourist season.

Vehicles parked on the roads and in front of hotels by the tourists coming without advance booking coupled with construction going on under the Shimla Smart City project have become major traffic bottlenecks.

A number of parking lots with single entry and exit are obstructing the smooth flow of traffic as a large number of vehicles are parked outside already packed parking spaces, says Haryana residents Ashwani and Sonika, who are visiting the hill town.

The occupancy is about 80 per cent but due to heavy rush, the vehicles entering the town from Chandigarh side are generally diverted via new ISBT, affecting the occupancy of hotels located between Victory tunnel and Auckland tunnel, said president of Tourism Industry Stakeholders Association M K Seth.

The situation could be better if the traffic is regulated from Shoghi, 13 km from the main town, Seth said.

The majority of the vacationers coming from the neighbouring states are walk-in tourists and the problem of parking has once again become alive, says hotelier Sushant Nag.

The government is projecting Himachal as a favoured tourist destination and inviting tourists but the parking facility is inadequate even for locals and visitors are harassed and penalised for parking vehicles on the roadside, said Nitish, a tourist from Ludhiana.

The Tourism sector which was the worst hit during Covid 19 pandemic in Himachal is bouncing back and an 87 per cent recovery was witnessed in 2022 with tourist arrival crossing the 1.51-crore mark as compared to 1.72 crores in the pre-Covid year 2019.

As many as 1.51 crore tourists including 29,333 foreigners visited Himachal in 2022 and the twin districts of Kullu and Shimla accounted for 36 per cent of the total tourist arrival.

Telangana HC issues notice to QNet in Swapnalok Complex fire case

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court, on Monday issued notices to QNet Vihaan Direct Selling Private Limited in the fire accident case at the Swapnalok Complex in Secundrabad.

A two-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice N Tukaramji was dealing with a suo moto PIL taken up based on a media report on the fire accident that claimed the life of 6 staff members of Qnet.

Reports suggested that the lack of an emergency exit was found to be the major reason for the mishap while the management of the complex failed to install firefighting equipment in place after the first significant fire accident in 2011.

    MS Education Academy

Converting the report into PIL (Public Interest Litigation), the HC, on March 29 sought answers from the state and civic authorities as to why the fire safety norms were not followed.

According to a preliminary investigation, a short circuit was said to be the reason behind the blaze.

Following the mishap, GHMC officials seized the complex and set up a banner stating that the building was closed temporarily under safety measures.

While awaiting the response from the authorities, the court adjourned the matter to June 26.

  • From drag shows to pronouns: Florida GOP takes aim at LGBTQ issues

From drag shows to pronouns: Florida GOP takes aim at LGBTQ issues

    [ad_1]

“It is maddening and it is sad to see the continuous attack of people who are quote unquote, other,” state Rep. Michell Raynor-Goolsby, a Democrat from St. Petersburg and the state’s first Black female queer legislator, said in an interview. “And that is what we’re seeing in this legislature, in this body, through the different types of legislation that is passed by the majority.”

Florida’s Legislature is known for fulfilling DeSantis’ big priorities, such as approving last year’s redistricting maps that gave the GOP a 20-8 congressional seat advantage over Democrats. But legislators are now in overdrive ahead of DeSantis’ expected 2024 presidential announcement — just four weeks into the 60-day annual session, lawmakers already sent a handful of bills to the governor. And the culture war focused bills on gender identity and sexual identity will give DeSantis a list of legislative victories he can use while campaigning for the conservative base.

A spokesperson said the DeSantis administration doesn’t typically comment on pending legislation, but in general stated that the governor “is a staunch defender of a parent’s right to be informed about and involved in their child’s education; believes that sexually explicit content is not appropriate to display to children; and believes that children should not be encouraged to physically or chemically alter their bodies for life.”

Republican lawmakers in the supermajority claim their intent is to protect kids and improve education, not discriminate. Members of LGBTQ community, however, contend they’re being slighted and disenfranchised by the legislation that GOP lawmakers are rapidly advancing in the Capitol.

GOP Florida House Speaker Paul Renner said that lawmakers are legislating issues that children should not have to face in the first place.

“We need to stop all of this stuff, whether it’s these crazy books that are on library shelves, and just focus on reading, math and core knowledge to succeed in life,” Renner said in an interview. “That is a bipartisan issue — something we all agree with.”

    Gender identity and sexual orientation

One of the bills lawmakers are considering would expand Florida’s Parental Rights in Education law, labeled by critics as “Don’t Say Gay.” This proposal is set to broaden the state’s prohibition on teaching about sexual identity and gender orientation to pre-k through eighth grade. It also targets how school staff and students can use pronouns on K-12 campuses, stipulating that it would be “false to ascribe” someone with a pronoun that “does not correspond to such person’s sex.”

Florida’s Department of Education is also looking to broaden “Don’t Say Gay” to 12th grade, a proposal that doesn’t need legislative approval and has drawn objections from Democrats and LGBTQ advocates.

Opponents of the legislation, such as advocacy groups Equality Florida and PRISM, claim it is effectively expanding the “censorship and attacks” on LGBTQ families in the state from last year’s law. They point to “sweeping censorship” that followed in 2022, like schools asking teachers to hide pictures of same-sex spouses from their desks.

“You have the choice to uplift students, to let them feel seen or heard, to learn about the reality of our world, or … to erase 25 percent of students in schools today from their classrooms,” Maxx Fenning, a University of Florida student and president of PRISM, and LGBTQ advocacy group, recently told lawmakers.

Republican legislators, however, argue that the intent of the parental rights law has been misinterpreted. Instead, they blame local school districts for “abusing” last year’s legislation that was meant to regulate classroom instruction by misinterpreting and politicizing the issue.

“What many school districts have done with that bill is terrible,” state GOP Rep. Randy Fine said during a bill hearing Thursday. “Because they have acted in bad faith to take a bill that they knew did not do those things. And, in order to try to score political points, they have actually done what they say they’re trying to stop to hurt people.”

Florida conservatives also are criticizing advocacy groups, claiming they are helping “blow out of proportion” the effects of the legislation by also politicizing the issue. As a result, Republican lawmakers claim naysayers are only hearing one side of the debate, maintaining that the proposal “doesn’t do anything to hurt children, but to protect children.”

“Opponents of this bill, especially the media, they want you to believe a manufactured narrative, one that they created, one that contradicts the substance and the purpose of this good bill,” said state Rep. Adam Anderson (R-Palm Harbor), a cosponsor of the House’s parental rights expansion.

But many Democrats disagree and see it as an attempt by DeSantis to excite the conservative base and, ultimately, win the GOP 2024 presidential nomination.

“The governor will be filing for president soon,” Florida House Minority Leader Fentrice Driskell told reporters Monday. “Our suspicion is that he wants to get as many of his priorities out of the way so that they will already be passed, and perhaps he can even sign them into law before he makes his announcement.”

    Drag shows

Republican lawmakers are also pushing legislation that will ban children from attending drag shows with “lewd” performances, an effort that comes after DeSantis called for tighter regulations and said such events “sexualize” kids.

In February, the DeSantis administration filed a complaint against the Orlando Philharmonic Plaza Foundation for hosting “A Drag Queen Christmas,” a performance advertised for all ages that the state alleged was explicit and inappropriate for children. But the Miami Herald found that undercover state agents attending the event reported that they saw nothing indecent at the show.

Democrats contend the legislation aims to scare drag performers and the LGBTQ community while performers testified that the bill was an all-out attack on the drag community.

Renner said the efforts by Republicans on gender dysphoria and drag shows were in response to what he claimed are adults pushing their lifestyles on children.

“I think the point of our members, and our side of the aisle, is let kids be kids,” Renner said. “There’s a time for them to make decisions about sexual issues, and they will do so and we will support whatever their decision is when they become adults.”

During a Friday House committee meeting, Fine, the sponsor of the drag show bill, said he would fight for drag performers even if he isn’t interested in watching them. “I don’t want to go, but I will fight like hell to make sure you can do it,” Fine said. “But leave the children out of it.”

In fighting against bills advancing through the Legislature, Democrats say that conservatives are slighting the LGBTQ community in an attempt to increase the rights for parents. Policies like restricting the use of pronouns are ostracizing students, making them feel like refugees in their own country, said state Rep. Marie Woodson (D-Hollywood).

“I’m from Haiti, I know what it feels like,” Woodson said. “I know how it feels to be disrespected, I know how it feels not be acknowledged, I know how it feels to … feel different than anybody else. And this is how those kids are feeling, they cannot be themselves. Who am I to judge them?”
