VHP issues legal notice to Congress president for defaming Bajrang Dal

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Vishva Hindu Parishad has issued a legal notice to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, accusing him of making defamatory remarks against the Bajrang Dal in his party’s Karnataka poll manifesto and demanding a compensation of more than Rs 100 crore.

The notice was issued by the Chandigarh unit of the VHP and its youth wing Bajrang Dal on May 4, demanding the compensation within 14 days.

There was no immediate response from Congress on the queries sent to the party in this regard.

In its poll manifesto for May 10 assembly polls in Karnataka, the Congress said it is committed to take firm and decisive action against individuals and organisations such as the Bajrang Dal and the Popular Front of India (PFI) “spreading hatred” among communities on grounds of caste and religion.

The action will include a “ban” against such organisations, the party promised.

“That in the manifesto at Page 10, you made defamatory statements against the Bajrang Dal, associate body of the Vishva Hindu Parishad by declaring to ban the organisation and comparing it to outlawed terrorist organisations like the Popular Front of India and similar terrorist organisations like Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) which are outlawed under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act by the Government of India,” VHP’s lawyer and co-head of its legal cell Sahil Bansal charged in the legal notice.

“The PFI and SIMI are terrorist organisations associated with Al Qaeda and ISIS and other global terrorist organisations proscribed by the United Nations General Assembly and by more than 100 nations as well as proscribed under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act,” he added.

Bansal claimed the Bajrang Dal “believes in universalism, tolerance, dharmic unity, national integrity and service towards Bharat Mata and in doing so seeks inspiration from the reverential example of Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman who are the ideal embodiment of Dharma and Service”.

The Bajrang Dal is “totally devoted to the service of dharma and in doing so devoted to the service of mankind”, the VHP’s counsel said, adding, “Unto that end the credentials of the Bajrang Dal are unassailable and unimpeachable.”

“That the defamatory statement which you made in the election manifesto and it’s subsequent release in general public is having a tendency to injure the reputation of my client, lower them in the estimation of others and bring them in obliquity contempt and ridicule,” he charged Kharge in the legal notice.

“My client demands special damages on account of injury inflicted to their reputation, honour due to the statement/averments, which you have made in the election manifesto,” he said.

The VHP counsel “advised” Kharge to pay a total of Rs 100.10 crore to the VHP and Bajrang Dal within 14 days of the issuance of the legal notice.

  • Big News: State Govt Issues Shoot At Sight’ Orders, More Troops Developed In The State – Kashmir News

    [ad_1]

State Govt Issues Shoot At Sight’ Orders: The Manipur government has issued “shoot-at-sight orders” as a last resort to control the situation amid spiralling violence in the state between tribals and the majority Meitei community which has displaced over 9,000 people from their villages.

Clashes first broke out on Wednesday in Churachandpur town after tribal Kuki groups called for protests against a proposed tweak to the state’s reservation matrix, granting scheduled tribe (ST) status to the majority Meitei community. Violence quickly engulfed the state where ethnic fault lines run deep, displacing thousands of people who fled burning homes and neighbourhoods.

The violence didn’t abate till late on Thursday evening even as thousands of army and paramilitary personnel fanned across the state, marching through the deserted streets of the state’s violence-hit towns to restore peace, and evacuating at least 9,000 people.

The Indian army in statement late on Thursday said that the situation in the towns of Moreh and Kangpokpi was stable and had been brought under control.

Here are 10 facts on this big story:

    1. The Manipur government on Thursday issued “shoot at sight” orders in “extreme cases” after violence in the state spilled over to Imphal. Rapid Action Force (RAF) was flown in and 55 army columns were deployed to contain the spiraling violence.
    2. According to sources, Centre is rushing additional troops to the state. The Indian Air Force (IAF) will airlift forces from Guwahati and Tezpur in Assam. Former CRPF chief Kuldeep Singh has been appointed as the security advisor for Manipur while senior IPS officer Ashutosh Sinha made the overall commander overseeing the peace restoration operations in the state.
    3. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will not be travelling to Manipur today. Mr Shah on Thursday spoke with the chief ministers of Manipur and its neighbouring states and held meetings with top central and state bodies through video conferencing to review the situation in the state.
    4. Although the government is yet to confirm the number of lives lost, if any, or how many have been injured in the clashes, over 9,000 people from various districts have been evacuated and given shelter in special camps. Around 5,000 have been shifted to Churachandpur, another 2,000 people were shifted to Imphal Valley, and 2,000 people to the border town of Moreh.
    5. “The government is taking all measures to maintain the law and order. We are committed to protecting the lives and property of all our people,” Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said on Thursday.
    6. In the wake of the violence, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday directed officials to evacuate students of his state studying in various schools and colleges in Manipur.
    7. The violence began on Wednesday during protests by various tribal groups of Manipur over a court order on Scheduled Tribe status.
    8. The All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) called a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ in Torbung area of Churachandpur district to protest against the non-tribal Meitei community’s demand for a Scheduled tribe status. According to the police, thousands took part in the rally during which violence broke out between some tribal groups and non-tribals.
    9. The Meitei, who are the majority in the state, primarily inhabit the Manipur valley. The Meitei’s claim that they are facing difficulty in view of “large-scale illegal immigration by Myanmarese and Bangladeshis”. As per existing law, the Meiteies are not allowed to settle in the hill areas of the state.
    10. Given the volatile atmosphere in the state, internet services have been suspended across the state till Monday, train operations have been stopped and curfew imposed in non-tribal dominated Imphal West, Kakching, Thoubal, Jiribam and Bishnupur districts and tribal-dominated Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal districts.

Hyderabad braces for rainfall today as IMD issues yellow alert

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has issued a yellow alert for the entire state of Telangana, including Hyderabad, as heavy rainfall is expected to lash many parts of the state today.

All six zones in Hyderabad, including Charminar, Khairatabad, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Secunderabad, and Serilingampally, are likely to experience a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers, and at times intense spells accompanied by gusty winds (40-50 kmph).

The yellow alert issued by IMD Hyderabad will remain valid till May 6, 2023. The forecast suggests that light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers are very likely to occur at many places over Telangana, with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hailstorms, heavy rain, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) expected to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, and Mahabubnagar districts of Telangana.

    MS Education Academy

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are very likely to occur at isolated places in the remaining districts of Telangana.

    Hyderabad receives heavy rainfall yesterday

Yesterday, Hyderabad received massive rainfall, with Bandlaguda receiving the highest rainfall of 29.3 mm. Other areas that received heavy rainfall in Hyderabad are Bahadurpura, Charminar, and Saidabad.

Many areas in Hyderabad witnessed heavy traffic due to heavy rainfall. Some areas in the city also witnessed power outages.

Due to the forecast of heavy rainfall, the maximum temperature in the city is likely to remain below 36 degrees Celsius till May 5, 2023.

Power cut, heavy traffic during rainfall

While the rainfall brings much-needed relief from the scorching summer heat, it also poses challenges for the residents of Hyderabad. The electrical infrastructure in the city is not always able to handle heavy rainfall, and outages take place, disrupting daily life.

The roads in Hyderabad also witness clogging with vehicles due to rainfall, making it challenging for commuters to travel.

In view of the forecast made by IMD Hyderabad, residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions.

death and disappearance in indian country 18978

Former Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), who is now director of the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics:

“I think if you’re looking for the one issue that could potentially cut a lot of different ways, it’s education. I think education is undervalued. You saw it being a big issue in Virginia, parents’ participation, but none of these people want people to ban books. So it’s going to be what these conservative state legislators are doing with the help of politicians in Washington who amplify those messages.

“It’s not just going to be parental involvement. It’s going to be transgender issues. It’s going to be the issues of banning books.”

Tresa Undem, a pollster for progressive causes and whose clients have included Planned Parenthood, Sierra Club and Time’s Up:

“Any issue that relates in some way to race or to gender is going to be a big deal,” especially as it pertains to border issues or crime. “If you look at what’s happening at the border, it’s about race more than security. … If you look at white voters and ask how they feel about safety, it almost always has little to do with safety. It’s about whether they support Black Lives Matter.”

David Axelrod, former adviser to Barack Obama:

“I don’t know that this is under the radar, but it is evolving. I think the state of the economy, whether we have or don’t have a recession in 2024, I think is a big factor.

“The challenge with presidential politics is that, we had no idea when we began in January of 2007 that by the time September of 2008 rolled around, the country would be hurtling into a mortgage crisis, and the economy was going to collapse. … There are real concerns because we’re due for a recession, and if it hits at the wrong time, it can have deleterious effects for the incumbent.”

Lis Smith, senior adviser to Pete Buttigieg’s 2020 presidential campaign:

“None of us were thinking about a global pandemic at this time [ahead of the 2020 election], so I think it’s probably something we have no idea about.”

Marc Elias, a voting rights attorney who also served as Hillary Clinton’s campaign lawyer:

“States not having the resources and the people to administer elections. … We’re seeing all around the country good people driven out of the process of election administration. … If you don’t have enough people to run elections, you can’t open polling locations and you can’t mail absentee ballots. So, I worry about the machinery of elections being negatively impacted by a target against election officials and against adequate funding of elections.”

Republican Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger:

    “World events and geopolitical issues.”

Tom Bonier, a Democratic political strategist and CEO of TargetSmart:

“There are certain issues that Republicans will try to make more salient. The playbook that they ran successfully in 2021, especially in Virginia — freedom, family and school choice — and they thought they could use in 2022 and Dobbs wiped it out. Republicans are taking great pains to bring it back on the radar. We’ll see how successful they are. It’s the repetition of ‘wokeism.’…

“Ukraine could also become more elevated, but I’m not sure it’s likely because there’s still a majority in the Republican Party that supports what the president is doing there. So that’s one to watch.”

Benjamin Gibson of the Election Official Legal Defense Network

“Depending on the results, both sides attack the credibility of the election, and that has long-term really deleterious effects on the country.”

Brenda Gianiny, a Republican pollster and founding principal of Axis Research

PM should answers issues raised by ex-Army chief over Pulwama attack: Gohil

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should break his silence and answers the issues raised by former Army chief General (retd) Shankar Roychowdhury over the 2019 Pulwama terror attack.

“Gen (retd) Shankar Roychowdhury said the biggest responsibility for the martyrdom of soldiers in Pulwama rests with the government. The National Security Advisor, who advises the prime minister, is also guilty of lapses in security,” Gohil, a Rajya Sabha MP, said.

He said the prime minister’s “silence” despite the reported allegations of former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik over the Pulwama attack and the questions raised by Gen (retd) Roy Chowdhury raises many questions.

    MS Education Academy

“In the national interest, a white paper should be issued on the Pulwama attack, with the government explaining how the attack took place, where the negligence was, what was the failure of intelligence, why jawans were refused aircraft, what security lapses occurred and what was the role of CRPF, NHA, NSA and PMO,” Gohil added.

Forty Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed in the terrorist attack on a convoy of security vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama in February 2019.

Malik, who was then governor of Jammu and Kashmir, has recently alleged intelligence failures and that the central government denied aircraft for the movement of security personnel.
