NIA raids house of suspected Islamic State operative in Srinagar

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: National Investigation Agency on Monday raided the house of a suspected Islamic State operative in Srinagar as part of an investigation in a case related to activities of some individuals from Kerala linked to the global terror group, an official said.

The house of Uzair Azhar Bhat, who is suspected to have been part of the Kerala module of the Islamic State — also known as ISIS — was raided at the Karfali Mohalla locality in downtown Srinagar, a spokesperson of the federal anti-terror agency said.

The official said digital devices seized from the house during the search are being examined and further investigations are in progress.

In 2021, the NIA had started probe into Mohammed Ameen alias “Abu Yahya” of Kadannamanna, Kerala, who had been running various Islamic State propaganda channels on different social media platforms.

“Through these channels, he was propagating violent Jihadi ideologies of ISIS and was radicalizing and recruiting new members to this ISIS module. He and his associates had even identified certain individuals for targeted killings,” the spokesperson said.

The NIA said they had also made plans to undertake ‘Hijrah’ (migration) to Jammu and Kashmir for engaging in terrorist acts and had raised funds from various sources for this trip.

“During the probe, it was found that Ameen was in touch with Deepthi Marla of Kerala, a converted Muslim, married to Anas Abdul Rahiman of Mangalore. In 2015, she had gone to Dubai to pursue studies where she met Mizha Siddeeque and both women developed an inclination towards ISIS,” the spokesperson said.

In 2019, the official said they tried to do ‘Hijrah’ to Khorasan (Afghanistan) and reached Tehran, Iran. After reaching Tehran, their contact with ISIS operatives based in Khorasan could not be established.

“They both returned to India, and Marla got in touch with Ameen, Obaid Hamid Matta, Madesh Shankar alias Abdullah and others and made plans to undertake Hijrah to ISIS administered territory.

“In January 2020, she went to Srinagar to meet Matta to plan the Hijrah and stayed in Srinagar for one week,” the spokesperson said, adding that one of the common contacts between Marla and Matta was Bhat, who is suspected to have been part of the conspiracy.

  • TN Police on alert after intelligence warning on Islamic outfits in state

TN Police on alert after intelligence warning on Islamic outfits in state

    [ad_1]

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Police is on high alert after inputs from central intelligence agencies on the presence of some Islamic outfits in the state.

After the ban on the Popular Front of India (PFI), some human rights groups were conducting programmes on human rights and police action, and central agencies have warned that such outfits were actually fronts of former PFI cadres who were trying to regroup.

Sources in the Tamil Nadu Police told IANS that these groups were trying to influence educated youths in campuses who are wedded to Islamic ideology. While many are shying away due to the ban inflicted on the PFI, some youths are being targeted by these groups.

The central agencies have warned the state police that some sleeper cells were working in Tamil Nadu supporting the activities of these ‘on paper’ organisations. Even as these groups are focusing on human rights and against “police atrocities”, agencies say that they were trying to create a dedicated support base from among the former PFI activists for further action in Tamil Nadu.

According to a senior officer of a central intelligence agency, these organisations are getting funds from outside the country and some hawala operators are being used to deliver the money. Some West Asia-based Tamil Muslims are supporting these movements and the agencies are trying to ascertain the volume of money that is being transferred.

Islamic outfits consider Tamil Nadu as a safe haven as the DMK government in the state is opposed to the Central government and is in confrontation with the Centre on many issues. While Kerala would have been a better hideout, agencies said that these organisations skipped it as the state has been on the radar of agencies and media earlier vis-a-vis Islamic outfits. Even the PFI’s earlier avatar, the NDF was formed in Kerala.

Tamil Nadu, according to central agencies, does not have that much of media hype regarding Islamic movements and hence, the Islamists are trying to develop a strong base there.

With former LTTE cadres forging alliance with international drug smuggling networks like Haji Ali network, the central agencies is trying to get inputs on whether the newly-formed groups are entering into or already entered into any connection with the former.

Several places in Tamil Nadu like Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Namakkkal, Kanniyakumari, and Theni are under the scanner of intelligence agencies and police to unearth the activities of these organisations.

TDP leader Lokesh promises to establish Islamic bank in Andhra

    [ad_1]

Tirupati: TDP national General Secretary Nara Lokesh on Tuesday promised to establish an Islamic bank once the party forms the government in Andhra Pradesh again.

After a two-day pause, Lokesh began his pada yatra ‘Yuva Galam’ and interacted with the representatives of the Muslim community at Sri Kalahasthi of Tirupati district.

“I am promising you that once the TDP forms the government again this Islamic bank will be established,” he said, noting how Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, during his padyatra, had promised to set up Islamic bank but he did not keep his word.

Lokesh recalled the formation of the Minorities Corporation by N. T. Rama Rao, the founder of the TDP. “Despite the change in the government for the past several years, the corporation continued but after Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy became the Chief Minister, he discontinued it,” he said.

He assured the minority community that the corporation would be revived once his TDP is back in power.

He alleged that Jagan Mohan Reddy discontinued all the welfare schemes launched by Chandrababu Naidu during the TDP regime and promised to revive all the schemes.

As the ‘Yuva Galam’ completed 300 km at Thondamanupuram panchayat in Srikalahasti Assembly segment, Lokesh assured the villagers to provide safe drinking water within 100 days of coming back to power.

Later, at Thindamanadu village, he said that the cheap liquor is now working as pesticide and the farmers instead of the pesticides can use the cheap liquor. He also interacted with women who came to collect their gas cylinders. He said that the subsidy on gas cylinders is not being paid to the consumers.

He also promised to do justice to communities like Gandla, Telikula and Deva Telikula once the TDP is back into the government.

During his padyatra, Lokesh met the groundnut farmers who narrated their problems to him. Farmer, Venkat Reddy, said that for the past three years they have been incurring heavy losses in agriculture and the state government is not coming to their rescue.

Another farmer told Lokesh that due to spurious seeds and fertilisers, the farming community in the district has been facing several problems. They also said that there is no MSP for the farm products due to which they are incurring huge losses in agriculture.

  • PFI wanted to turn India into Islamic state by 2047: Maha ATS

PFI wanted to turn India into Islamic state by 2047: Maha ATS

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad has claimed the Popular Front of India (PFI), banned by the Centre last year, aimed to establish the “rule of Islam” in India by 2047, and also had plans to obtain weapons and ammunition with the help of foreign countries or other organisations to achieve their targets.

The ATS stated this in its chargesheet filed in a local court last week against five PFI members who were arrested last year for allegedly indulging in unlawful activities and waging a war against the country.

The state ATS arrested the five PFI members – Mazhar Khan, Sadiq Shaikh, Mohammad Iqbal Khan, Momin Mistry and Aasif Hussain Khan – following raids my multiple agencies across various states in September last year.

The accused have been charged under Indian Penal Code sections for promoting enmity between different groups and conspiring to commit certain offences against the state, as well as provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

In the chargesheet filed on February 2, the ATS claimed to have seized a document called “India 2047- towards rule of Islam in India”.

The seized document, as per the ATS, provides a roadmap for members of the group (PFI) to “overturn the government”.

“We dream a 2047, where the political power has returned to the Muslim community from whom it was unjustly taken away by the British Raj. The roadmap towards this first starts with the socio-economic development of Muslim community for which a separate roadmap was already provided in the name of Empower India Foundation,” the document said, as per the chargesheet.

“For this one needs to repeatedly remind the Muslim community of its grievances and establish grievances where there is none. All our frontal organisations including the party should be focused on expanding and recruiting new members,” the document stated.
The chargesheet said the PFI wanted to create a split among several communities by projecting the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as an organisation interested only in the welfare of upper caste Hindus.

The accused had held several training courses in order to achieve their targets, the ATS said.

The chargesheet also claimed another document was found from the devices of the accused, Iqbal, which gave details of their plans for expansion in Maharashtra.

In the said document, names of all the five accused were mentioned as members who were scheduled to take “final class”, the chargesheet stated.

The organisation (PFI) had plans to obtain weapons and ammunition with the help of foreign countries or other organisations to achieve their targets, the ATS claimed.

The Centre in September 2022 banned the PFI and several of its associates for five years under a stringent anti-terror law, accusing them of having “links” with global terror groups like ISIS and trying to spread communal hatred in the country.

Before the ban, the National Investigating Agency (NIA), the Enforcement Directorate(ED) and various state police forces had carried out raids in a massive pan-India crackdown on the PFI and arrested several of its leaders and activists from various states for allegedly supporting terror activities in the country.
