The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released the official IPL 2023 schedule on Friday evening, and the16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to start on March 31.

The 10 participating teams in this season will fight for the famous IPL trophy over the course of a 74-match schedule, with the curtain-raiser on March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium with the defending champion Gujarat Titans taking on the Chennai Super Kings.

The Gujarat Titans, who won the championship last year on their first attempt, will want to retain it in the forthcoming competition. However, they will face a stern test this time around with big dogs Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings looking to make amends for their woeful season after a strong IPL mini-auction.

The league stage, that concludes on May 21, will see 70 games being played including 18 double headers. The tournament returns to its familiar home and away format with all ten teams scheduled to play seven games at their home venue and seven away. 12 venues are set to host the league stage as Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals are scheduled to play two home games each in Dharamshala and Guwahati respectively.

The last time the entire tournament was staged in its traditional home and away format was in 2019. The 2020 edition was completely held in the UAE and the 2021 edition in India had to be abruptly halted as a result of Covid-19 with the second half of the season being held in the UAE again. While the IPL last year was held in India, the tournament was restricted to a limited number of venues with Mumbai and Pune hosting the entire league stage.

Taliban Condemns Auctioning of Women in IPL, Calls it Regressive, Patriarchal and Against Women Empowerment

The Women’s Premier League Auction has finally arrived in a momentous night for women’s sport, with a host of Australian players securing blockbuster contracts for the inaugural tournament in India.
However, women IPL Auction didn’t go well for all. Taliban condemned the auctioning of women. Calling it a controversial custom, Taliban chief said this doesn’t happen even in the most backward countries anymore.
“By auctioning women, India has gone 2500 year back when in Babylon there were Marriage Markets where women were auctioned off as brides. If Modi can’t rule India well, let Taliban rule” said Taliban Chief.
Soon after the Taliban statement, west media too jumped on the topic and started demanding an on Women IPL and its auction calling it deeply regressive, patriarchal and against women empowerment.
UN also issued show cause notice to BCCI and Indian Government but by the time UN intervened, a majority of women were already auctioned and sold.

National Commission for Women issues notice to IPL committee for auctioning women

Women’s Premier League Auction 2023 Live Updates: The stage has been set for the much-awaited Women’s Premier League (WPL) Player Auction at Mumbai where 449 women cricketers will go under the hammer for five teams – Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz.
However, a minutes before the auction, the National commission for women and Ministry of Women and Child Development has issued notice to the BCCI and women IPL committee for openly auctioning women.
Ministry of Women and Child development accused BCCI and Women IPL committee of following Talibani ideology. Ministry issued show cause notice and asked immediate closing of the auction.
The auction has been paused for a while and BCCI has informed that the auction of women is only for playing IPL. Details awaited.

While batting first, Punjab scored 177 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. While chasing, Mumbai Indians were in trouble when they lost six wickets for just 59 runs in 13.4 overs. Then, Harbhajan Singh and Jagadeesha Suchith put up a 100-run partnership for the seventh wicket. Harbhajan scored 64 runs off 24 balls while Suchith remained not out on 34* runs off 21 balls. But their efforts went in vain as the home team lost the match by 18 runs.
Second Lowest total defended in IPL history (119 runs), 2018

It was the 23rd match of the 2018 edition of IPL that took place on 24 April. Sunrisers Hyderabad got bundled out for 118 runs in 18.4 overs. But in reply, Mumbai Indians also got bundled out for just 87 runs in 18.5 overs. Thus, Hyderabad managed to defend the second-lowest total in the history of IPL.

Male Cricketer Identifies as woman to get sold in Women IPL Auction

A BCCI-organised T20 tournament for women, similar to that of the IPL, which is likely to be called as the Women’s T20 league (scheduled for 3rd – 26th March, 2023) has announced its player’s registration schedule. BCCI has invited some unnamed reputed entities to bid for the women’s IPL teams.

However, amidst the auction process, a male cricketer has put BCCI in a conundrum as the male cricketer registered himself for women IPL as a women player after identifying himself/herself as a woman.

Reportedly, the male cricketer has updated all his social media accounts with pronouns She/Her. BCCI has not revealed the name of the male cricketer but has hinted that the players has remain unsold in last two IPLs and hence has decided to get sold in women’s IPL.

While BCCI is in dilemma, cricket fans are appreciating the male cricketer for his/her decision saying that the person really loves cricket and can go to any extent to play cricket.
