    New Delhi: Actor Tamannaah Bhatia is all set to perform at the opening ceremony of the Indian Premier League 2023 on March 31.

    Taking to Twitter, Indian Premiere League announced the news and wrote, “Join @tamannaahspeaks in the incredible #TATAIPL Opening Ceremony as we celebrate the biggest cricket festival at the biggest cricket stadium in the world – Narendra Modi Stadium! 31st March, 2023 – 6 PM IST on @StarSportsIndia & @JioCinema Make sure to tune in & join.”

    The opening ceremony will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

    Reportedly, actors Tiger Shroff, Katrina Kaif, Rashmika Mandanna and singer Arijit Singh will also be performing at this year’s opening ceremony.

    IPL 2023 is set to begin on March 31 with a clash between heavyweights Chennai Super Kings and defending champions Gujarat Titans.

    The T20 cricket extravaganza will be played across 12 venues with the Narendra Modi Stadium hosting the opener on March 31 and the final of the tournament will be played on May 28 at the same venue in Ahmedabad.

    In total 12 venues – Mohali, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Jaipur, Mumbai, Guwahati (Royals’ second home) and Dharamsala (Kings’ second home) will host the IPL 2023 matches.

    For the first time since 2019, the league will return to its customary home-and-away schedule in India where each team will play a total of 14 games. Each team will have home support, playing at their respective home grounds in seven matches while they will play the remaining seven matches at away venues.

    The matches will be played on two match timings with the day matches starting at 3:30 PM IST while the night matches beginning at 7:30 PM IST.

    IPL 2023 will see teams being divided into two groups – Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants in Group A while Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans are in Group B.

    The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season is all set to kick off on March 31 and will continue until May 28. During the tournament, 10 IPL teams will play matches at 12 venues in various cities, including Hyderabad. A total of 70 league matches will be played.

    The following is the list of the captains who will lead IPL 2023 teams.

    1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) – MS Dhoni
    2. Delhi Capitals (DC) – Rishabh Pant
    3. Gujarat Titans (GT) – Hardik Pandya

    Each team will play 14 games, with seven at their respective home grounds and seven at away venues. The IPL teams have been divided into two virtual groups, Group A and Group B, based on their previous performance in the tournament.

    Captain of SunRisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023

    South Africa batter Aiden Markram has been named the captain for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 28-year-old cricketer is not new to the leadership role having led the Sunrisers Eastern Cape to the inaugural SA20 title earlier this month. He played a crucial role in the side’s SA20 triumph, ending the season as the third-highest run-scorer.

    During his time as Eastern Cape’s captain, Markram demonstrated his versatility as a multi-faceted player and a captain. Markram scored 369 runs at a strike rate of 127, including a century, and claimed 11 wickets with his part-time off-spin at an impressive economy of 6.19.

    Sunrisers had to decide on the leadership role after releasing New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson prior to the IPL mini-auction in December last year. The batter struggled for form in the 2022 IPL and scored 216 runs in his 13 innings.

    New Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad would be banking on the leadership skills of their new skipper, South African Aiden Markram, and the cricketing acumen of coach Brian Lara to break the jinx of finishing in the lower rung over the last couple of editions, when the latest IPL season commences on March 31.

    Markram, who led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to the inaugural SA20 title, is the third captaincy change in three years for the Hyderabad franchise, and will have a big job at hand to guide the side to success after it finished last in 2021 and eighth among 10 teams last year.

    Having won the title in 2016, SRH’s biggest issue has been their captaincy, with Australian opener David Warner and charismatic New Zealand batter Kane Williamson having to pay the price for the team’s debacle in the last two editions.

    New Delhi: When the 16th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) gets underway from March 31, talismanic Chennai Super King skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be the only captain to lead the same side ever since the inaugural edition of the cash-rich league in 2008.

    In his 16-year long journey at IPL, Dhoni has seen it all — winning multiple titles, getting banned for two years in between, handing over captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja before taking it back again — at CSK. But, as nothing lasts forever, this IPL season could be his last as a player with four-time champions CSK.

    Though there has not been any official statement on this count either from the CSK management or Dhoni, there are some obvious hints at his retirement from IPL.

    Handing over captaincy to Jadeja last year was a big indication that the former India captain is looking for his successor at the Chennai-based franchise. Though the move failed as the star all-rounder couldn’t handle the pressure well, it was clear that Dhoni wants to groom someone for the leadership role.

    As far as his fitness is concerned, Dhoni is still one of the fittest Indian cricketers and can even give young players a run for their money. His tactical acumen is still by far the best in comparison to other skippers in IPL. However, the only concern about Dhoni is that he doesn’t play any other form of competitive cricket except IPL, so his match preparedness, which helps in taking the right decision at the right time, can be a factor.

    As of now, 41-year old Dhoni, who has led CSK to four IPL titles, will captain the franchise in the upcoming season as they open their campaign against defending champions Gujarat Titans in the opening match in Ahmedabad on March 31. But it will be interesting to see whether there will be any twist in the tale in terms of captaincy as was the case last year.

    It has been learnt that the Chepauk stadium in Chennai is gearing up for ‘Thala’s’ farewell match. The game against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 14 will be CSK’s last home game of IPL 2023, so it might be Dhoni’s last game for the franchise if they don’t qualify for the playoffs.

    Notably, Dhoni in November 2021 had confirmed that his last T20 game will be in Chennai, but whether it will be next year or in five years’ time, he doesn’t know.

    “I have always planned my cricket. My last home game in ODI was at my hometown in Ranchi. So, hopefully, my last T20 will be in Chennai. Whether it’s next year or in five years’ time, I don’t really know,” Dhoni had said at that time.

    Since then, TV commentators have asked him multiple times about his retirement plans, but Dhoni has always kept his options open.

    The World Cup-winning captain rarely interacts with the media. He is not that active on social media either. So it’s quite difficult to predict what will be his next move.

    But if indeed Dhoni decides to hang his boots from the cash-rich league after this season, it will be an emotional occasion for the CSK fans. He might be associated with the franchise in some role in future, but that feeling will be missing for sure.

    SRINAGAR: Two more players from Jammu and Kashmir are going to represent Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL)-2023 edition as net bowlers.

    The JKCA, on Saturday released a statement announcing that Sunrisers Hyderabad had contacted them to request the services of two players, Mohammad Tahir and Auqib Nabi, from Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association to join their team as net bowlers for the upcoming season.

    The JKCA has expressed its gratitude towards the franchise for demonstrating faith in the players from Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association and has granted permission for both players to join the SRH team. This brings the total number of JKCA players participating in IPL 2023 to 13.

    Anil Gupta, a member of JKCA’s administration said that the inclusion of JKCA players in this year’s IPL will undoubtedly inspire them to strive for improved performances and achieve their aspirations of playing in the tournament.

    PSL 2023 Concluded with much fanfare on Saturday as Lahore Qalandars defeated Multan Sultans by one run to win their second title, in Lahore.

    Meanwhile, there always remains a comparison between fans from both countries as to which is the better franchise-based T20 league. While IPL will be entering its 16th edition, starting March 31st, PSL completed its eighth season.

    The defending champions Lahore Qalandars defeated the high-flying Multan Sultans in final by the barest of margins. Batting first, Lahore completed 200 runs, thanks to a 40-ball 65 from Abdullah Shafique and an out-of-the-world 15-ball 44* from the captain Shaheen Afridi, who smashed five sixes and two fours.

    The chase was well-threaded by cameos from the top order, in which the man-in-form Rilee Rossouw top-scored with 52 from 32 balls. While the lower order also contributed with crucial runs, four wickets to seamer Afridi derailed their momentum going forward. In the end it all came down to the final over, where Zaman Khan successfully defended the target with just two runs remaining.

    IPL has long been touted as the best T20 franchise league in the world, with some of the best cricketers plying their trade in India. But PCB chairman Najam Sethi had a different opinion and made a stunning statement that PSL has overtaken IPL in terms of digital rating.

    Speaking in a press conference ahead of the final, Sethi said, “Let’s talk about digital. PSL was only at the half stage, so I asked about our digital rating. Najam Sethi show used to have a 0.5 rating on TV, whereas PSL is getting a rating of more than 11. So, it would be 18 or 20, when it completes.”

    “Over 150 million people watched it digitally. It is not a small thing. At the same stage, IPL’s digital rating was 130 million and PSL’s is more than 150 million. So this is a great success for Pakistan”, he further added.

    Sethi’s comments could surely create some controversy among Indian and Pakistan cricket fans. It would be interesting to see if a former Indian cricketer would respond to Sethi’s statement. With IPL 2023 set to start from March 31, defending champions Gujarat Titans will face Chennai Super Kings in the season opener, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

    Expressing his jubilation over the call for trials now, Aamir says that he never dreamt about being called up to represent himself on such a big platform.”I never had dreamt that one day I could reach this level where I will be called to represent such a big platform. I am very happy that at least my efforts have not gone wasted. I will fight and put all my efforts into making my name appear on the ultimate list one day,” Aamir said.

    “With this opportunity, my wings have flapped and I am finding a new way to fight, for this milestone is a challenge for me now.”

    New Delhi: With the BCCI announcing the schedule of the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the focus is now on the tournament with fans and experts discussing various issues related to it.

    Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden believes this could be the last time Mahendra Singh Dhoni will step into the field as a player.

    Speaking exclusively on Star Sports following the announcement of the TATA IPL 2023 schedule, Hayden on Friday talked about the reception Chennai Super Kings captain Dhoni will receive when he walks onto the field at Chepauk after almost three years.

    “It will be an amazing moment. I think last year, we were all under the impression that will MSD come back again. At the close of the IPL season, he made that huge comment to say that he will be back.

    “Now, what that means for all that Yellow Army is that Chennai suddenly galvanized a tad around the superior leader, who has done it for so long. This will, most certainly, I think, be the close of his IPL career. So, those few games at the start are not only going to be key for the fans, his performance is going to be key for CSK this season,” said Hayden.

    Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar agreed with his assessment that Dhoni will be the key for CSK.

    “Look, having watched T20 cricket over the years, especially with the IPL and the kind of pressures that teams feel, I believe that you can have one player in your team on pure leadership.

    “MS Dhoni doesn’t play regularly, so his impact with the bat is not going to be as much as it was in the prime, but somebody like MS Dhoni, with his leadership experience, you can have him in the team, to make a difference with his leadership. And this is a guy who’s had a team that was called the ‘Old Men Playing IPL Together’ and they won that particular season,” said Manjrekar.

    Dhoni had stepped down as captain before the start of the 2022 edition and handed over the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja.

    However, with the team struggling to win matches, Jadeja handed over the captaincy back to Dhoni.
