Delhi BJP leaders stage dharna at Rajghat over AAP’s ‘insult’ to Mahatma Gandhi

New Delhi: A group of Delhi BJP leaders and workers on Sunday staged a sit-in at Rajghat here over alleged insult to Mahatma Gandhi by the AAP.

The BJP leaders led by state president Virendra Sachdeva also prayed at the Gandhi’s memorial prior to AAP convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reached there before going to the CBI headquarters for questioning in connection with the alleged liquor scam.

“When Kejriwal gets trapped, he remembers Mahatma Gandhi, although he has ordered for removing Gandhi’s portrait from offices of his government,” Sachdeva charged.

He further attacked Kejriwal over AAP workers holding protests across the city, and said, “Kejriwal’s politics is inspired by his actor friend Prakash Raj’s villainous roles in the movies. The call of AAP for road blockade in Delhi is inspired by the role of Raj in film Policegiri.”

Sachdeva said Kejriwal was called by the CBI for liquor scam of his government but he went to the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi, and nothing can be “more shameful” than this.

Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said that due to the hard work of BJP workers, Kejriwal who is “mastermind” of the liquor policy scam will also be in jail soon.

“Whenever Kejriwal was asked about the liquor scam in the assembly, he ran away. Kejriwal will now have to face the consequences of his actions and will have to resign and also go to jail,” Bidhuri said.

Former Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta said the party workers’ struggle has paid off today. Kejriwal’s aides Satyendar Jain and Manish Sisodia are already in the jail waiting to welcome him there, he said.

Trump decries charges against him as an ‘insult to our country’

Trump went after Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, describing him as a “criminal,” a “radical left” prosecutor and a “failed district attorney,” while calling for him to be prosecuted.

“The criminal is the district attorney, because he illegally leaked massive amounts of grand jury information, for which he should be prosecuted, or at a minimum, he should resign,” Trump said.

The former president used his speech not only to denounce the indictment that was brought against him Tuesday, but also to decry several other past and ongoing investigations into him, including his two impeachment proceedings, accusations of fraud levied against him by New York Attorney General Tish James and the investigation into the classified documents he had stored at Mar-a-Lago.

The speech came after the state judge presiding over the arraignment, acting Justice Juan Merchan, decided against imposing a gag order on the former president, while warning against making statements that “incite violence or create civil unrest.”

Hundreds were in attendance at Trump’s Florida estate on Tuesday night, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake and three of Trump’s children, Don Jr., Eric and Tiffany.

Trump has maintained his innocence throughout the investigation and has denied the affair with porn star Stormy Daniels, as well as another alleged affair with Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model.

On Truth Social, his social media outlet, the former president has also repeatedly attacked Bragg, calling the prosecutor, who is Black, an “animal” and describing the indictment as “political persecution” and “election interference.”

When news of the indictment first broke on Thursday, the former president was quick to denounce the case as a “witch hunt.”

“This is Political Persecution and Election Interference at the highest level in history,” Trump wrote in a statement shortly after the grand jury voted to bring criminal charges against him. “The Democrats have lied, cheated and stolen in their obsession with trying to ‘Get Trump,’ but now they’ve done the unthinkable — indicting a completely innocent person in an act of blatant Election Interference.”

In the weeks leading up to the indictment, Trump knocked the investigation — at one point wrongly predicting the imminence of his arrest, and calling on his supporters to protest and “take our nation back” in a post on Truth Social.

Savarkar our idol, won’t tolerate insult: Uddhav to Rahul

    [ad_1]

Malegaon: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said he considers Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar as his “idol”, and asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to refrain from “insulting” him.

He said the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance of three parties – Sena (UBT), Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) – was formed to protect democracy and it was necessary to work unitedly for it.

Addressing a rally in the Muslim-dominated textile town of Malegaon in Nashik district of north Maharashtra, Thackeray also said that deliberate attempts were on to provoke Rahul Gandhi.

“Savarkar is our idol and his insult will not be tolerated if we have to fight together to protect our democracy. Savarkar suffered unimaginable torture in the Andaman cellular jail for 14 years. We can only read the sufferings. It is a form of sacrifice,” he said.

”I want to tell Rahul Gandhi that we have come together to save our country’s democracy and its Constitution. But you are deliberately being provoked. If we allow this time to get wasted, then democracy will cease to exist. 2024 will be the last election,” he added.

Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha on Friday, a day after a court in Gujarat’s Surat convicted him in a 2019 defamation case. Addressing a press conference in Delhi over his disqualification, Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said, “My name is not Savarkar, my name is Gandhi and Gandhi does not offer an apology to anyone”.

Thackeray said he supported Gandhi for his Bharat Jodo Yatra.

“Rahul Gandhi spoke well at his press conference yesterday. He raised valid questions about whom does Rs 20,000 crore belong. But the government doesn’t want to answer,” he said.

During his press conference on Saturday, Gandhi said the moot questions remain that who invested Rs 20,000 crore in Adani shell firms and what is the businessman’s relationship with the prime minister.

Targeting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Thackeray alleged that those who have no connection with the country’s freedom movement were attempting to finish off democracy.

Thackeray, who was addressing his second rally here after Khed in Ratnagiri district since losing the party name and symbol to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, said he was fighting to save democracy and freedom.

“The fight is not about me becoming the chief minister again,” he said.

Thackeray also said NCP leader Anil Deshmukh’s six-year-old granddaughter was questioned by probe agencies and even Lalu Prasad Yadav’s pregnant daughter-in-law was quizzed till she fainted.

“If you criticise those in power, police will be after you,” he said.

“Modi is not India. Did our freedom fighters lay down their lives for this?” he asked.

The former CM wondered how good and honest people in the BJP were tolerating the corrupt people brought into their fold from other parties.

Hitting out at CM Shinde, Thackeray said he doesn’t regret losing the chief minister’s post, but a government doing good work was shamelessly toppled.

“Farmers are facing a lot of hardships and the Shinde government is doing nothing to ease their problems,” he alleged.

Thackeray said he has been robbed of his party’s name and symbol, but traitors can never rob him of the love and affection of the people.

He said his government has taken several steps for the development of the textile sector in Malegaon and farmers and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“During the pandemic, I had spoken to the religious heads in Malegaon and everyone here cooperated with the government initiatives to control the spread of the virus,” he said.

  • ‘Insult to Prophet’: Yusuf Khan main ‘initiator’ in Amravati murder case, says NIA

‘Insult to Prophet’: Yusuf Khan main ‘initiator’ in Amravati murder case, says NIA

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Opposing the bail application of an accused veterinary doctor in the 2022 murder of Amravati-based pharmacist Umesh Kolhe, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday claimed that he was the “main abettor and initiator” of the crime.

Yusuf Khan, the accused, was the one who took a screenshot of Kolhe’s message supporting suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma and instigated others to target him, the agency told a special NIA court here in a written reply to the bail plea.

Kolhe, who had shared social media posts backing Sharma over the latter’s controversial comments about Prophet Mohammad, was killed in eastern Maharashtra’s Amaravati city on June 21, 2022.

As per the probe agency, which has arrested more than ten persons in the case, the accused were seeking to avenge the “insult” to the Prophet.

Khan, booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) besides Indian Penal Code sections related to murder, said in his bail application filed through advocate Shehzad Naqvi that he was not a “Tablihgh Jamat” member as claimed by the NIA.
There was not an “iota of evidence” against him, he claimed.

The NIA, in its response, submitted that he was directly involved in the conspiracy and commission of offenses.

“The applicant is the main abettor and initiator of this whole case,” and the only Muslim member of the ‘Black Freedom’ WhatsApp group where Kolhe had shared a post supporting Nupur Sharma, it said.

Khan, who was angered by Kolhe’s message, took a screenshot of it and forwarded it with instigating text to ‘Kalim Ibrahim’ WhatsApp group in which co-accused Irfan Khan was admin and active member, the NIA said.

Yusuf Khan also forwarded the same to many other individuals, and also approached another co-accused Atib Rashid and instigated him to take revenge on Kolhe, the agency claimed.

“Within a week, owing to his abetment, it resulted in the murder of the victim,” the NIA added.

It also said that the accused was “making a poor and deliberate attempt to impress upon court that he is Sunni Muslim following the Barelvi sect and ideology of Tablighi Jamat is opposite to it.”

Rather, it was a “planned terrorist act” carried out by individuals belonging to Islam to avenge remarks of Nupur Sharma which were supported by Kolhe, the probe agency said.

The court will hear the bail application on March 24.(

Won’t tolerate insult to Dr Ambedkar: Karnataka min Madhuswamy

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: In the wake of an objectionable play in a private deemed-to-be-university in the city recently, the Karnataka government on Wednesday said it will not tolerate any insult to the architect of the Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar.

During zero hour in the Karnataka Assembly, JD(S) legislator Dr K Annadani raised the issue of the play allegedly demeaning Dr Ambedkar.

“The government has taken action by arresting some people. Such an insult to Ambedkar is unacceptable. Remove the ‘deemed university’ status and withdraw all the facilities given to the educational institution,” Annadani said and trooped to the well of the House.

Replying to him, the state Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J C Madhuswamy said, “the government is not in a position to tolerate it. If the management’s role is found then certainly action will be taken,” Madhuswamy said.

On repeated insistence seeking removal of deemed-to-be-university status, Madhuswamy said the government will not yield to whatever was asked for in the House.

Annadani alleged the professor and the dean of the university must be held accountable as they knew about the play when the rehearsal was happening.

The skit that was performed by the students of the Jain (Deemed-to-be) university at a college festival recently, purportedly contained offensive references mocking Dr Ambedkar and Dalits, the portion of which was widely shared on social media. Nine persons including seven students have been arrested in this connection.
