    SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated Chancellor’s trophy at University of Jammu on Wednesday. More than 550 sportspersons from various universities are participating in the three-day mega sports event ‘Sauhard’.

    The Lt Governor called upon the Higher Education institutions to promote sports as a core subject. Sports is a powerful medium to ensure physical-emotional health, enhances learning efficiency & helps in character building, he added.

    “Sports nurtures both mind & body and enables students to become well-rounded across disciplines. National Education Policy has given us an opportunity to promote Sports through multidisciplinary system and end fragmentation in education system,” said the Lt Governor.

    Citing various reports and studies on the impact of sports on the mind of an individual, the Lt Governor said the researchers considered Sports as a miracle for the brain. It is important that sports should be a part of our curriculum, he noted.

    Highlighting the initiatives taken for holistic development of youth, the Lt Governor said, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the National Education Policy is creating a progressive ecosystem for the students to translate their dreams into reality.

    Prime Minister’s vision for FIT India, Khelo India, National Education Policy, start-up opportunities, is building a strong foundation for India’s future,said the Lt Governor.

    The Lt Governor also pointed out that Sports was deeply rooted in the ancient education system.

    Our Gurukuls had emphasized using Sports as a tool to enable socio-economic change, he said.

    The Lt Governor encouraged the youth to follow in the footsteps of prominent personalities who achieved excellence in both academics and sports.

    “Nothing is Impossible. You can achieve excellence in any field with your hard-work, dedication, right guidance and can build your future with your individuality and independent thinking,” said the Lt Governor.

    Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt Governor reiterated the commitment of the administration to providing all necessary facilities to sportspersons and making JK a sporting powerhouse.

    Prof Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, Jammu University said that the University of Jammu, being one of the partners for hosting the Pre-Summit of G-20 Group of Countries, has taken an initiative to organise an inter-University Sports Competition for the Chancellor’s Trophy-2023 to promote brotherhood among students and scholars of the various Universities and to build trust and social harmony.

    Chancellor’s Trophy is being held under the initiative “My Youth My Pride” to promote the concept of NEP 2020 which envisages sports as part of the curriculum and lays emphasis on sports-integrated learning and as a skill for a quality life, it was informed.

    Participants will compete in various sports disciplines like Basketball, Cricket, Kabaddi, Volleyball and Table Tennis.

    Appraises the action taken on the directions passed in the previous meeting on seamless credit to potential entrepreneurs and saturation of other government schemes aimed to facilitate the dreams of aspiring society

    Jammu, Mar 02 (GNS): Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting of Public Sector Banks, Administrative Departments & other Financial Institutions, today at Civil Secretariat.

    The Lt Governor reviewed the action taken on the directions passed in the previous meeting on seamless credit to potential entrepreneurs and saturation of other government schemes aimed to facilitate the dreams of aspiring society.

    The Lt Governor directed the Public Sector Banks and other financial institutions for dedicated measures to ensure government benefits directly reach the people and put greater emphasis on lending for potential entrepreneurs, farmers, SHGs and rural development.

    “Banking sector is the backbone of J&K’s growing economy and collective efforts should be made to facilitate common man, farmers, industries, SHGs and young entrepreneurs. Banks need to cooperate & complement government’s efforts in reaching out to beneficiaries of all flagship schemes,” the Lt Governor said.

    He also observed that during the Back to Village-4 and My Town My Pride Programme, J&K Bank ensured a major share of 90% in extending the financial support to 75,000 youth recently, while other banks had merely 10 % contribution.

    “This situation needs to change. All the Banks must increase the lending to promote entrepreneurship amongst youth, women and people from marginalised sections of society,” the Lt Governor further said.

    The Lt Governor also reviewed the progress achieved to extend the benefits of Kisan Credit Cards to all the eligible farmers.

    The banks were instructed to follow the delivery channels of RBI and saturate the distribution of Smart Cards to the KCC account holders by June, 2023.

    The Lt Governor emphasized on support and guidance to the farmers in preparing project reports required by the banks through nodal agencies. He also emphasized on holding regular meetings at the district level with mission youth & other government departments to understand requirements of diverse sectors, the Lt Governor added.

    The Chair was also briefed on the upcoming ‘Citizen’s portal for Government Sponsored Schemes’. The soon to be launched portal, prepared by J&K Bank will ensure that all the Banks operating in Jammu Kashmir seamlessly extend all the benefits of government schemes to the eligible beneficiaries.

    The portal will enable a citizen to apply for a Government Sponsored Schemes directly online with OTP Authentication and check the status of his/her application online.

    It will forward/route the applications from citizens to appropriate departments & teams in an integrated workflow and enable departments & teams to process and forward/route these applications to the concerned financing agencies.

    Further the financing agencies can update status for these applications post processing. It will also facilitate generation of MIS/Reporting Dashboards, it was informed.

    Directions were passed to explore possibilities to integrate all the schemes and other portals on a single platform and make the portal more interactive, multilingual and having a module of grievances redressal mechanism.

    Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary; Sh Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture Production Department; Sh Baldev Prakash, MD & CEO J&K Bank; Administrative Secretaries; HODs, Heads and representatives of several banks operating in the UT attended the meeting.(GNS)

    Islamabad: Lieutenant General (retd) Amjad Shoaib was detained by the Islamabad police on Monday on charges of inciting the public against national institutions.

    Cops from the Ramna police station apprehended the former army officer from his residence in the federal capital, Geo News reported.

    An FIR was registered against Lt Gen (retd) Shoaib on February 25 at Islamabad’s Ramna Police Station under Sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups, etc) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

    According to the FIR, filed on the complaint of Islamabad Magistrate Owais Khan, the former army officer incited people to revolt against institutions and attempted to provoke disharmony, and anarchy and create a law and order situation in the country through his controversial statements made on a TV show, Geo News reported.

    “Through his remarks and analysis, Lt Gen (retd) Amjad Shoaib has provoked government employees against carrying out their official duties. The aim of his controversial advice to the people, government employees and an opposition party is to comments is to promote enmity among the people.”

    The statement of the former military official, the FIR stated, is part of a “planned conspiracy” to weaken the country, Geo News reported.

    Lt Gen (retd) Shoaib was previously summoned by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to appear on September 7, 2022 after he made claims about a meeting between the Pakistani prime minister and an Israeli team.

    However, he failed to appear before the FIA’s Cybercrimes Wing.

    Hyderabad: The recruitment process in Telangana Residential Educational Institutions has come to a standstill. The government had decided to recruit for more than 12,000 vacancies. However, notifications for these vacancies have not been issued as yet and has disappointed the candidates waiting for them.

    Earlier, the government had issued all approvals for appointments on 9,096 vacancies in minority, SC, ST and BC residential educational institutions. However, the Board of Recruitment of Residential Educational Institutions (TREIRB) has not yet issued a single notification for appointments.

    Telangana State Public Service Commission, Telangana State Police Recruitment Board, Telangana Medical and Health Services Recruitment Board have not only issued notifications for appointments in various departments of the government but the process of appointments is also going on. Notifications for all three departments have been issued for 45,000 different vacancies within the limits of the institutes, but (TREIRB) has not issued any notification to the candidates for 12,000 vacancies.

    Chief Minister KCR announced appointments to 80,000 vacant posts in the Assembly last year. Among them, 12,000 mixed vacancies in residential schools were identified.

    The Finance Department has also issued all the orders. Even after seven months, not a single notification has been issued for appointments to these vacant posts.

    A few more vacancies have been added within the board limits and the government delays appointments on 3,000 jobs in residential institutions.
