WB: 1.5K camera traps to be installed to track tiger movement

    [ad_1]

Kolkata: In an attempt to track the movement of Royal Bengal tigers reportedly frequenting the forest zones in north Bengal, the state forest department has decided to install 1,500 camera traps in three reserve forest zones in the region.

The three reserve forest zones are Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary in Darjeeling district, Neora Valley National Park in Kalimpong district and Buxa Tiger Reserve in Alipurduar district.

“The installation of camera traps will also give some idea as to whether these tigers are just frequenting these forest zones in search of prey or a few of them have made these areas their permanent habitat,” a forest official said.

    MS Education Academy

The forest department believes that tigers are frequenting these forest zones due to three developments. The first is of course occasional capture of tigers by the existing camera traps. The second is the occasional spotting of tiger excreta and pugmarks in these areas. The third is the recovery of body parts of large herbivorous animals like bison, which are not possible for the leopards in these zones to kill.

“So, the forest department has decided to install 1,500 additional camera traps in these three reserve forest zones to get more information about the big cats. Unlike the ones already installed there, the new camera traps will all be imported high-end ones,” the forest official said.

The forest department has already outlined an ambitious plan to reestablish the Buxa Tiger Reserve as an ideal abode for Royal Bengal tigers. An agreement has been signed with the Assam government to bring a couple of tigers from there and release them in the Buxa Tiger Reserve to increase the big cat population.

Since 1998, there has been no evidence confirming the presence of tigers in the BTR. But in December 2021, a tiger was spotted in the forest reserve zone. It was, however, later confirmed that the big cat had migrated to the zone temporarily.

  • 90,000 Smart-meters Installed in Srinagar to Improve Power Scenario During Ramadan: MD KPDCL

    [ad_1]

Says Consumers to enjoy 24-hour power supply and accurate billing process; Time slots Sehri, Iftar or Tarawih will not be affected in any manner

    Rehan Qayoom Mir

Srinagar, Mar 14 (GNS): Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) Tuesday announced to have installed around ninety-thousand smart-meters in Srinagar district while remarking the department is gearing up to significantly improve the power scenario with the beginning of holy month of Ramadan.

Talking to media, MD KPDCL Yasin Choudhary, as per GNS said that the department is proudly announcing that KPDCL has installed 90 thousand smart meters in the Srinagar district alone. Saying the process has been ongoing for many months now, Choudhary said now the main thing is to ensure uninterrupted round-the-clock power supply to those consumers where the (smart) meters are installed. “We hope to keep the promise of 24-hour power supply to the consumers where the smart meters have been installed”, he said.

Choudhary said that as far as Downtown Srinagar is concerned they have roughly completed a small target of 1 thousand consumers which include the areas of Hawal, KK Mohalla, Rainawari and Khanyar.

“We also faced stiff resistance at many places, but we want the people to understand that smart meters have genuine merits. You will not only get just 24 readings, but your bill process will also be generated accurately as it is directly generated from the system, so there is no chance of any human errors. We are also providing good voltage and the efficiency has also been increased. All this is possible only because of smart meters.”

Talking about the non-metered areas, he added that before the smart meters, people used to think that if they installed smart meters, they might get access and a hectic electricity bill. “Now, the same has been effectively demonstrated. We have also noted that no major changes have been seen in bill cycling and people can now monitor all the readings directly from their phone.”

People are using and monitoring their power consumption accordingly, which is giving them insight as to save electricity and manage their bills well.

Regarding the issue of meter-tampering, Chaudhary said under the supply code and other prominent acts, there are many ways that if any consumer or member of the public who is tampering with the meter in any way, he/she will be fined and dealt with under strict law.

“Our peak-load demand in peak winters was roughly 2900 megawatts, and it has now fallen to a solid 2000 megawatts at this time. As the weather conditions are also favorable, we have 1700 megawatts maintained as far as availability is considered.”

The curtailment is reducing day by day, and by the beginning of Ramadan, we will be able to ensure a much better scenario. “In any case, the time period of Sehri and Iftar will not be affected in any manner, and we will do all the special arrangements that are required for”, he said adding specified time slots for Sehri, Iftar or Tarawih will not be affected in any manner. • Hyderabad: 1L to be trained in CPR, 1400 defibrillators to be installed

Hyderabad: 1L to be trained in CPR, 1400 defibrillators to be installed

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: With incidences of young men suddenly collapsing and succumbing to cardiac arrests on rise in Telangana, the state government has embarked on a programme to train one lakh people in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training and placed orders for 1,400 defibrillators for deploying them in public places.

The health department has taken the initiative to train one lakh people in CPR.

Health Minister T. Harish Rao along with municipal administration minister K. T. Rama Rao launched the programme on Wednesday in association with GVK Emergency Management Research Institute (EMRI).

The ministers voiced concern over the growing number of people succumbing to cardiac arrests.

Rama Rao said the visuals of a 24-year-old police constable succumbing to cardiac arrest while working out at a gym and another 19-year-old collapsing while dancing were shocking.

Telangana witnessed four such cases in a span of 10 days. Three deaths occurred in Hyderabad alone.

The minister said if people are trained in CPR, they can help save lives in such emergencies. CPR-trained people will be deployed in public places like bus and railway stations, malls and government offices.

Harish Rao said that the statistics show that 4,000 people are falling to sudden cardiac arrest everyday and according to the World Health Organization (WHO), nine out of 10 people can be saved with methods like CPR and use of defibrillators.

Meanwhile, minister KTR has also announced that orders for 1,400 defibrillators (AEDs) have been placed.

KTR announced this in response to a tweet by senior interventional cardiologist.
The minister said the number of defibrillators will be increased going forward.

Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) will be deployed in public areas.

Dr Mukharjee Madivada had recently suggested to KTR to install defibrillators in public places in Hyderabad as these will save lives. He had pointed out that sudden death is becoming more common especially after the Covid pandemic.

“CPR can save a significant number of people who experience sudden cardiac arrest. AED is a critical part of CPR and even lay people can use it with a simple training and public access defibrillators are already installed in majority of world class cities,” the doctor had tweeted.

According to Dr Hari Ram, Senior consultant and head, interventional cardiologist, SLG Hospitals, Hyderabad, bystander CPR can be initiated by the public also.

The cardiologist says while AED are available in few places, people need to know how to use this device. Delay of initial treatment leads to decreased blood supply to all important organs like heart, brain, liver, kidney, gut and lungs.

A man collapsed and died while playing badminton at Jayashankar Indoor Stadium Lalapet in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

This was the fourth such incident in Telangana in 10 days. CCTV footage of these incidents have gone viral on social media. Visuals of young men collapsing while working out in the gym or dancing during the wedding or playing games have shocked people.

On February 25, a 19-year-old collapsed and died while dancing at a wedding of his relative in Nirmal district.

Mutyam, a native of Maharashtra, was dancing at the wedding reception of a relative in Pardi Avillage of Kubeer mandal of Nirmal district.

A 24-year-old police constable died of cardiac arrest while working out at a gym in Hyderabad on February 22.

On February 20, a man collapsed and died during a Haldi ceremony as part of the wedding of his relative in Hyderabad. The 40-year-old man was applying turmeric to the groom when he suddenly collapsed and died before he could be taken to a hospital.

  • MP: Khandwa tense after Hanuman’s idol installed in Muslim house

MP: Khandwa tense after Hanuman’s idol installed in Muslim house

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: Forced installation of Hanuman’s idol in a Muslim’s house triggered communal tension in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district but prompt police action prevented the violence from escalating.

The state is yet to get over the horror it witnessed last year in Khargone.

According to official reports, the incident was reported on Sunday in a residential colony located near Munshi Chowk area in Khandwa, around 360 km from Bhopal.

The situation was under control, police said on Monday. However, a heavy police force was deployed in the area and Section 144 imposed in nearby areas.

At least four police personnel, including a Chief Superintendent of Police and SHO, were reported injured in stone pelting.

Five alleged perpetrators of the incident have been detained so far, and identification of more was under way, police said on Monday.

“On Sunday, around 8.30 p.m, a group of people barged into the house, installed Hanuman’s idol and chanted mantras. This led to people from both communities gathering outside the house. Both sides pelted stones at each other, but police jumped into action and dispersed the crowd,” a senior police official told IANS on Monday.

As per the police, the house where the incident took place belonged to one Ganesh Jadhav, which was recently sold to a Muslim, Shaikh Asagar.

The agitated people even attacked the police who arrived to control the situation, prompting them to use tear gas to disperse the crowd.

“Three cases under different IPC Sections pertaining to house-trespassing, attempt to murder and rioting lodged and as many as five persons have been detained so far. The prime accused in the entire incident is a self-styled Hindu leader Ravi Awhad,” police officials said.

Notably, last year (on April 10, 2022), a communal clash had broken out in Khandwa’s bordering district – Khargone.
