Maha govt to install 10,000 rain-measuring devices to get accurate weather data

Aurangabad: As many as 10,000 rain measuring devices will be installed across Maharashtra, which will provide accurate information about weather in real time, state Minister Abdul Sattar said on Saturday.

The state currently has 2,200 rainfall measuring devices, but the government is planning to take this figure to 10,000, Sattar told reporters after a pre-Kharif season meeting here.

Talking to PTI, Agriculture Commissioner Sunil Chavan said, “This project is under consideration and we are planning to install 10,000 rain-measuring devices in the state. One machine will be installed for four gram panchayats. The machine will not only provide data about rainfall, but also about wind velocity and other aspects of weather.”

A private company will be roped in for the project, while the state government will provide land for it, he said, adding that the company will also be free to share the data with crop insurance companies.

“The state will witness 96 per cent rainfall in the upcoming monsoon season. There will be no scarcity as such of rains this year. The state government will ensure that there is no shortage of urea, seeds and other essentials,” Sattar said.

In another initiative, drones will be employed to spray nano urea in the state, the minister said.

“At least 500 gm of nano urea, which is an effective equivalent to 50 kg of urea, will be mixed in water and sprayed with the help of drones. Drones will be provided at subsidised rates and operators will be trained at Rahuri Agriculture University for 15 days,” he said.

Speaking about the losses faced by farmers due to unseasonal rains, Sattar said, “Nearly 70 per cent of the crop loss survey has been completed. Once the rains stop in some parts of the state, we finish the remaining survey in a week’s time.”

Will install 5G mobile jammers in jails for better security: Gujarat govt tells Assembly

    [ad_1]

Gandhinagar: In the wake of recovery of mobile phones from some jails during a recent search operation in Gujarat, the state government on Wednesday informed the Legislative Assembly that it has now decided to install more powerful jammers that can block even 5G mobile signals.

In a mega overnight operation on March 25, the Gujarat police conducted simultaneous searches at 17 jails across the state, during which mobile phones were recovered from three jails, said Gujarat Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, in the Assembly on the last day of the Budget session.

The police teams had found 16 mobiles, 10 electronic items, 29 lethal objects and even narcotics during the mega drive, he said.

The minister was speaking on this issue under rule 116 of the Assembly, which deals with “matters of urgent public importance”.

During this surprise search operation across the state, police teams also found tobacco products and a pen drive from the prison barracks. Of the total 17 jails searched, including Ahmedad’s Sabarmati central jail, nothing suspicious or illegal was found from five jails, Sanghavi said.

“At present, jammers which can block 2G mobile signals are installed in our jails. Such jammers have their limitations because phones available in the market today are even 5G-enabled. Hence, for better security, we have decided to install jammers that can block even 5G signals in our jails,” he told the House.

The search operation, in which 1,700 police personnel were involved, began on Friday night. The intention behind the move was to check if any illegal activity was taking place there and also to ensure that the inmates are getting facilities they are entitled to as per the law, the minister added.

According to him, the home department has already initiated a probe against officials of those jails where such illegal items were recovered from the inmates.

GHMC to install oxygen parks under flyovers in Hyderabad

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is going to increase the green cover in Hyderabad by installing oxygen parks under flyovers. The aim is to convert vacant spaces under the city’s flyovers into beautiful green spaces, also known as ‘Oxygen Parks.’

Recently, Telangana State Minister for Panchayatraj and Rural Development, Errabelli Dayakar Rao announced the move to convert flyovers in Hyderabad into green spaces. One of the first such facilities is coming up under the Kamineni flyover in the LB Nagar zone.

Under this initiative, authorities will plant saplings with the capacity of releasing more oxygen compared to other regular species.

Vertical gardens on pillars of flyovers in Hyderabad

For more beautification and an increase in green cover, the corporation will install vertical gardens at the pillars of the flyovers in Hyderabad.

The oxygen parks under flyovers in Hyderabad will have a play area for children, comfortable seating arrangements, parking areas, fountains, and sculptures. In the future, more facilities like provision to exercise, walk, or jog are likely to be added to these parks.

Oxygen parks to reduce air pollution in Hyderabad

Apart from increasing lung space in Hyderabad, these oxygen parks under flyovers will also help reduce air pollution in the city. The green cover under the flyovers will help absorb pollutants and provide clean air for the people in the vicinity.

The GHMC’s initiative to convert flyovers in Hyderabad into green spaces is a step in the right direction. It will create a sustainable and healthy environment for the people of the city.

By utilizing the vacant spaces under the flyovers, the city will not only look greener but also be more livable for its citizens.

    Beautification of Hyderabad

Even since the formation of Telangana state, the government is undertaking various works to beautify the city. These projects include the construction of parks, reviving of steep wells, the improvement of tourist spots’ condition, etc.

In order to ease traffic congestion, the government has constructed various flyovers, and model corridors in and around Hyderabad.
