    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Indian tennis legend Sania Mirza is in news for quite sometime now for her divorce rumours with husband and Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. The couple got married in a Hyderabadi traditional nikah ceremony in 2010. It is being said that they are leaving separately and are co-parenting their son Izhaan Mirza Malik.

Sania Mirza has been sharing number of cryptic messages on social media adding more fuel to the divorce speculations. Her latest Instagram post about ‘not losing faith’ is catching eyeballs.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, the tennis star posted a photo of herself and wrote, ‘This is not the time to lose faith, this is the time to hold onto it’.

It is not clear whether Sania Mirza wrote the message because she and her American partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands suffered defeat in the first round of the Abu Dhabi Open or because of a problem in her relationship with Shoaib Malik.

Sania had a very impressive career in tennis and from 2009 to 2016, she won six Grand Slam doubles titles – three each in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles. She was ranked world no.1 in women’s doubles in 2015.

Sania and Shoaib are currently co-hosting the Mirza-Malik show on Urduflix amid divorce rumours. It is also reported that Sania will announce the divorce news only after the completion of the shooting of the show.

  • Iran: WhatsApp, Instagram to remain blocked after Mahsa Amini protests

Iran: WhatsApp, Instagram to remain blocked after Mahsa Amini protests

    [ad_1]

Tehran: The Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi announced on Wednesday that the government will continue to restrict access to social media networks— Instagram and WhatsApp, which have been blocked for months due to the protest movement.

The Iranian authorities imposed strict restrictions on the Internet and social networks, after protests erupted following the death of Mahsa Amini, in mid-September, three days after she was arrested by the morality police.

Raisi said on the country’s national television on Tuesday evening that these two platforms owned by the American internet giant Meta, “were the root of insecurity in the country during the recent riots,” AFP reported.

“The two platforms will only be allowed to operate if they have a legal representative in the country who is responsible for their users’ activities,” the president said.

According to NetBlocks, the current restrictions are the most severe since 2019, when Iran cut off all Internet access in response to fuel protests.

    Protests in Iran continues

Iran has been witnessing protests since the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, on September 16, after she was arrested in Tehran by the morality police on suspicion of not respecting the country’s dress code.

The demonstrations involved people from all walks of life and different sects in Iran after Amini’s killing.

Iranian women are at the fore in the demonstrations, in which many young people participate, to chants of “Woman life freedom” and “Death to the dictator.”

The protests represent one of the country’s boldest challenges since the 1979 revolution.

Meta purged over 34 mn bad pieces of content on FB, Instagram in India in Dec

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Meta has said that it took down over 22.54 million pieces of content across 13 policies for Facebook and over 12.03 million pieces of content across 12 policies for Instagram in December 2022 in India.

Between December 1-31, Facebook received 764 reports through the Indian grievance mechanism, and the company said it provided tools for users to resolve their issues in 345 cases.

These include pre-established channels to report content for specific violations, self-remediation flows where they can download their data, avenues to address account hacked issues etc, said Meta in its monthly report in compliance with the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

“Of the other 419 reports where specialised review was needed, we reviewed content as per our policies, and we took action on 205 reports in total. The remaining 214 reports were reviewed but may not have been actioned,” Meta added.

On Instagram, the company received 10,820 reports through the Indian grievance mechanism.

“Of these, we provided tools for users to resolve their issues in 2,461 cases,” it informed.

Of the other 8,359 reports where specialised review was needed, Meta reviewed content and took action on 2,926 reports in total.

The remaining 5,433 reports on Instagram were reviewed but may not have been auctioned.

Under the new IT Rules 2021, big digital and social media platforms, with more than 5 million users, have to publish monthly compliance reports.

“We measure the number of pieces of content (such as posts, photos, videos or comments) we take action on for going against our standards. Taking action could include removing a piece of content from Facebook or Instagram or covering photos or videos that may be disturbing to some audiences with a warning,” said Meta.

  • Meta to restore Trump’s Facebook, Instagram accounts

Meta to restore Trump’s Facebook, Instagram accounts

    [ad_1]

San Francisco: Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has announced that it will be reinstating former US President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts in the coming weeks.

The announcement was made by Meta’s President of Global Affairs Meta Nick Clegg in a blog post on Wednesday.

Meta, on January 7, 2021, suspended Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts for two years following his praise for people engaged in violence at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

“The suspension was an extraordinary decision taken in extraordinary circumstances. The normal state of affairs is that the public should be able to hear from a former President of the US, and a declared candidate for that office again, on our platforms,” Clegg elaborated in the blog post.

“Like any other Facebook or Instagram user, Mr Trump is subject to our Community Standards. In light of his violations, he now also faces heightened penalties for repeat offences – penalties which will apply to other public figures whose accounts are reinstated from suspensions related to civil unrest under our updated protocol,” he added.

Clegg also said that Meta is reinstating Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, however, with new guardrails in place to “deter repeat offences”.

“We know that any decision we make on this issue will be fiercely criticised. Reasonable people will disagree over whether it is the right decision. But a decision had to be made, so we have tried to make it as best we can in a way that is consistent with our values and the process we established…,” he asserted.
