Man creates ex-girlfriend’s fake Instagram account for ‘revenge’, arrested

New Delhi: A 21-year-old man was arrested for allegedly creating a fake Instagram account of his former girlfriend and using her father’s picture to send obscene messages to her relatives to take revenge, police said on Sunday.
The accused has been identified as Vivek, a resident of southwest Delhi’s Najafgarh area, they said.
The woman, in her complaint at Cyber Police Station, alleged that an unknown person created a fake Instagram profile by using her name and her father’s pictures, police said.
The accused was sending threatening and obscene messages on the complainant’s Instagram account and to her relatives as well, they said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) M Harsha Vardhan said that analysis of the fake Instagram account revealed that the mobile number used in the creation of the fake account belongs to Vivek.
“During the investigation, it came to notice that earlier the complainant and the alleged person were in a relationship for the last four years. Due to some reasons, the relationship broke up,” he said.
“In order to take revenge and defame the complainant, he created a fake Instagram profile and sent obscene messages to the complainant and her relatives. Thereafter, the accused was arrested in this case,” he said.
A mobile phone which was used in the commission of the crime was recovered from his possession, he added.

Karachi: Top Pakistani actress Ushna Shah who recently married golf player Hamza Amin was trolled for wearing a red bridal lehenga for the wedding. After her wedding photographs and videos got leaked online and she was slammed by netizens for dressing up like an Indian and Hindu bride. Her photos and videos were widely shared and she blamed a fashion blogger for leaking them. After facing the wrath of netizens, she finally announced to take a break from Instagram.
Ushna took to Instagram to share how she ‘worked very hard’ to keep her wedding private. The actress said that she has felt that her privacy was violated as photos and videos were shared online without her permission. She tried to clarify to trolls that she did not marry in a way which offends Pakistani culture. She said that she was ‘signing off’ from Instagram for a few days ‘for the sake of her mental health.’She also apologized for ‘letting down’ people with her wedding outfit.

In a series of Instagram Stories before deactivating her account, she said that she had received ‘hundreds of thousands of messages’ after she married in her ‘own way’. She further wrote, “I apologized to AB (a fashion blogger) only to save him from trolling and I am getting mercilessly bullied for getting married my way.”
She continued to write, “For desperately trying to keep my shaadi (wedding) my own. For being upset that my nikkah (wedding ceremony) got interrupted by a drone and for feeling violated. Hundreds of thousands of messages. This is beyond cruel. Please forgive me for wearing what I wore and for trying to protect what was meant to be only mine. I did not sign up for any of this. I am bowing out of this narrative.”

“I haven’t reacted to online trolling for years, but I am a human being at a very vulnerable time of my life. A new bride in a new home. From hiring photography teams, who signed NDAs to hiring security and (following) strict guest lists, I wanted to protect our union and only share what I was comfortable with. I worked very hard for this time to be private,” she added.
Ushna Shah took the decision of deactivating her Instagram account after she felt that trolls are not going to stop targeting her. She wrote, “I have read many of the comments, they don’t seem to stop. Please believe that I did not get married to offend our culture. That was not the intention, and if that is what people feel I have done then I apologise for letting them down. I am going to sign off from this platform (Instagram) for a few days for the sake of my mental health and to spend this precious time and energy on my wonderful husband and my new family, who are a blessing. I am also questioning if I am cut out for this job. Thank you for the love and prayers.”
Ushna Shah claimed her outfit was traditional Pakistani while netizens allege that her wedding outfit resembles Indian and Hindu attires.

Delhi Girl, 19, raped by Gurugram-based Instagram friend for a year: Police

Gurugram: A 19-year-old Delhi-based girl student was allegedly raped several times over a year by her Instagram friend, who also threatened to kill her, police said on Thursday.
The victim, who had first met the man when she was underage, moved to police after he started blackmailing her into sleeping with his friends.
According to the complaint she filed on Wednesday, she had met one Abhishek, a Gurugram resident, in July 2020 through Instagram. She met him first in a park in Gurugram.
“In September 2021 we met again in MGF mall from where he took me to a guest house in DLF Phase-2 area where he raped me,” said the BA first year student.
From thereon, the accused would often call her and submit her to have sex with him. According to the complainant, the accused raped her several times in a hotel in Manesar, police said.
“He started blackmailing me and once again raped me in September last year,” she said.
Following her complaint, an FIR was registered against the accused, Abhishek, under Section 6 of POCSO Sct as the victim was minor in 2020, and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC at DLF Phase 2 Police Station on Wednesday.
A senior police officer said that after a medical examination, the victim was produced in a city court for her testimony under section 164 of CrPC.

“We are conducting raids to nab the accused and he will be arrested soon,” the officer added.

After Twitter, Meta announces paid verification for FB, Instagram

Delhi: Inspired by Elon Musk-run Twitter, Meta on Sunday announced it is testing paid verification for Instagram and Facebook for $11.99 per month for the web and $14.99 per month for mobile.
Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that a “Meta Verified” account will grant users a verified badge, increased visibility on the platforms, prioritised customer support, and more.
The company is first rolling out the feature to Australia and New Zealand and it will arrive in more countries “soon.”
“This week we’re starting to roll out Meta Verified – a subscription service that lets you verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support,” Zuckerberg said in an Instagram post.
“This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services,” he added.
For Meta Verified, the user needs to meet minimum activity requirements, be at least 18 years of age or older, and submit a government ID.

Meta introduces broadcast channels on Instagram

San Francisco: Meta has introduced new broadcast channels on Instagram, which is a one-to-many messaging tool that will allow creators to engage directly with their followers at scale.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg made the announcement on the social networking platform with his own “Meta Channel.”
“Creators can also use voice notes to share their latest updates and behind-the-scenes moments, and even create polls to crowdsource fan feedback,” the company said in a blogpost on Thursday.
However, only creators can send messages in the broadcast channels and followers can react to content and vote in polls.
The company further mentioned that more features will be added to these channels in the coming months, such as the ability to bring another creator into the channel to discuss upcoming collaborations, crowdsource questions for an “ask me anything” and much more.
Once a creator gets access to broadcast channels and sends the first message from their Instagram inbox, their followers will receive a one-time notification to join the channel,” it added.
Moreover, followers can leave or mute these channels at any time and can also control their notifications from creators.
Creators can also encourage their followers to join by using the “join channel” sticker in Stories.

“We’re currently testing broadcast channels with a handful of creators in the US and plan to expand in the coming months,” Meta said.
“We’ll be testing broadcast channels in Messenger and on Facebook in the coming months,” it added.

Hyderabad: Indian tennis legend Sania Mirza is in news for quite sometime now for her divorce rumours with husband and Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. The couple got married in a Hyderabadi traditional nikah ceremony in 2010. It is being said that they are leaving separately and are co-parenting their son Izhaan Mirza Malik.

Sania had a very impressive career in tennis and from 2009 to 2016, she won six Grand Slam doubles titles – three each in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles. She was ranked world no.1 in women’s doubles in 2015.
Sania and Shoaib are currently co-hosting the Mirza-Malik show on Urduflix amid divorce rumours. It is also reported that Sania will announce the divorce news only after the completion of the shooting of the show.
