  • Swedish national arrested in Mumbai for molesting IndiGo cabin crew

Swedish national arrested in Mumbai for molesting IndiGo cabin crew

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: A Sweden national was arrested in Mumbai for allegedly molesting a cabin crew member onboard an IndiGo flight from Bangkok, officials said on Saturday.

The accused has been identified as, Klas Erik Harald Jonasm, 63, police said.

The Swedish national was handed over to Mumbai police by the airline staff when the flight landed at Mumbai Airport on Thursday, officials said.

The accused was arrested on Thursday after a complaint by IndiGo Airlines and was produced in the Andheri court on Friday and granted bail the same day, officials said.

A chargesheet was filed by the police, in Andheri court on Friday.

Police said they have started further investigations into the case.

This is the 8th unruly airline passenger arrested in India in the past three months, according to officials.

On March 23, Mumbai’s Sahar Police booked two IndiGo flyers travelling from Dubai to Mumbai for allegedly being drunk and misbehaving with the crew, police said earlier in the month.

The arrested passengers were identified as Dattatreya Bapardekar and John George D’Souza.

“Two Indigo flyers have been booked under section 336 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) & sections 21,22 and 25 of Aircraft rules for being drunk & misbehaving with the crew. Both were arrested formally but as the sections were bailable, they were granted bail from the police station itself”, DCP Dixit Gedam, Mumbai Police told ANI earlier in the month.

According to the police, the incident occurred on March 22. It is alleged that passengers John George D’Souza and Dattatreya Anand Bapardekar started drinking after the flight took off from Dubai on an Indigo flight from Dubai to Mumbai. When the cabin crew found this, they informed them about the ban on drinking alcohol inside the flight. But both the accused got infuriated and stood up from their seat and started walking inside the flight drunk.

Inebriated passenger vomits, defecates on IndiGo flight

    [ad_1]

In a bizarre incident, an inebriated IndiGo flight passenger reportedly vomited in the aisle and defecated around the toilet while traveling from Guwahati to Delhi.

The incident happened on March 26.

The incident was flagged on Twitter by Bhaskar Dev Konwar, an advocate who was also a passenger. “Indigo 6E 762 : Guwahati to Delhi. The intoxicated passenger vomited on the aisle and defecated all around the toilet. Leading lady Shewta cleaned up all the mess and all the girls managed the situation exceptionally well. Salute girl power #Indigo#girlpower#DGCA,” he tweeted.

Numerous Twitter users voiced their outrage at the incident and demanded severe punishment for the accused. IndiGo, however, has not made any statements regarding the issue.

Last year in November, a drunk passenger named Shankar Mishra urinated on an elderly woman on an Air India flight. The airline was criticized for not taking prompt necessary against the passenger. Six weeks after the heinous act, Mishra was detained.

Mishra was banned by Air India for four months. He was finally granted bail by a Delhi court when his lawyers made an eccentric argument that it was the elderly woman who peed on herself and not Mishra.

  • IndiGo emergency door opening case: Won’t glorify Cong’s criticism, says Tejasvi Surya

IndiGo emergency door opening case: Won’t glorify Cong’s criticism, says Tejasvi Surya

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: Reacting for the first time on the aircraft’s emergency door opening incident, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Bengaluru South, Tejasvi Surya on Saturday said a clarification on the matter has already been provided, and he will “not further glorify the criticism of the Congress”.

While the airline — IndiGo, did not name the passenger, some passengers travelling on the same flight had claimed that it was Tejasvi Surya. The BJP leader, however, had maintained a silence on the issue.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday after flagging off Namo Charity Run in Bengaluru, Surya said the airlines and the DGCA have given clarification regarding the incident.

“The Union Minister for Civil Aviation has explained that it was an incident that took place accidentally. K. Annamalai, the Tamil Nadu BJP president who was travelling with me also explained what exactly happened. Two other passengers have also given clarification over the incident,” he said.

“I don’t want to react in the backdrop of criticism from the Congress party or someone asking something, and glorify their criticism,” MP Tejasvi Surya claimed.

A controversy had broken out recently after IndiGo Airlines had released a statement that a passenger had opened the emergency door of its Chennai-Tiruchirapalli flight on December 10, 2022 leading to a two hour delay in the flight departure.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia confirmed on Wednesday (January 18) that the door was opened last month “by mistake”, and the person who opened it has apologised.

IndiGo had said on Tuesday that a passenger accidentally opened the emergency exit of a plane at the Chennai airport on December 10. The passenger had apologised, said the airlines.

While the airline did not name the passenger, few opposition parties have reacted on the matter, claiming that the person responsible for the act is Tejasvi Surya.

Without naming Surya, the Civil Aviation Minister on Wednesday confirmed that the passenger who by mistake opened the emergency exit, leading to a two hour delay of the flight, has apologised for his act.

“I won’t respond to what the opposition is saying. It’s important to look at the facts. The door was opened by him by mistake when the flight was on the ground and after all checks, the flight was allowed to take off,” Scindia said.
