After Co-WIN, govt launches U-WIN to digitise India’s universal immunisation programme

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Carrying vaccination cards of children and pregnant women, struggling to keep a tab on the next jab and other such hassles may soon become a thing of the past. After the success of the Co-WIN platform, the government has now replicated it to set up an electronic registry for routine vaccinations.

Named U-WIN, the programme to digitise India’s Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP) has been launched in a pilot mode in two districts of each state and Union Territory.

The platform will be used to register and vaccinate every pregnant woman, record her delivery outcome, register every newborn delivery, administer birth doses and all vaccination events thereafter, official sources told PTI.

The platform that replicates Co-WIN, which has served as the “digital backbone” for India’s COVID-19 vaccination programme, was launched on January 11 in 65 districts.

The U-WIN is going to be the single source of information for immunisation services, updating vaccination status, delivery outcome, planning of RI sessions and reports like antigen-wise coverage, etc.

“There will be digital registrations of all pregnant women and newborns for individualised tracking for vaccination, reminders for upcoming doses and follow-up of dropouts.

“Healthcare workers and programme managers will be able to generate real-time data of routine immunisation sessions and vaccination coverage for better planning and vaccine distribution,” an official explained.

For pregnant women and children, vaccine acknowledgement and immunisation card linked to ABHA ID (Ayushman Bharat Heath Account) will be generated and all states and districts can access a common database to track and vaccinate beneficiaries.

Besides, through the platform citizens can check nearby ongoing routine immunisation sessions, and book appointments, the official told PTI.

All states and UTs have been sensitised on U-WIN functionalities and objectives for the pilot in 65 districts and staff and healthcare workers have been trained on all modules of U-WIN.

“With this the entire vaccination system including records will get digitised, easing the tracking of beneficiaries.

“Vaccination records under UIP are being maintained manually as of now. So this will do away with the hassle of keeping a physical record. It will enable the digitisation of session planning, and updating vaccination status on a real-time basis.

“Beneficiaries would be able to book slots for vaccination in advance. Also, it will allow mobility.

“Once the whole immunisation programme is digitised, beneficiaries will get certificates on the spot and they can also download them if they want to. These certificates will be stored in digi-lockers,” an official elaborated.

An effective surveillance system will help create an evidence base to enable planning and deployment of effective interventions.

Rahul Gandhi capable to be India’s PM: Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut

    [ad_1]

Jammu: Shiv Sen (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi leading the Bharat Jodo Yatra is capable to be the prime minister of India and no third front will be successful sans the grand old party.

He said the purpose of Gandhi’s Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir is to remove the hatred and fear and not to unite the opposition parties under the banner of his party.

“Ideological and political differences apart, he (Gandhi) will show his leadership qualities and will be a big challenge (for the ruling BJP in 2024 general elections). He will make a miracle,” the Member of Parliament told reporters here.

Raut, who walked for nearly 13-km alongside Gandhi between Hatli Morh and Chandwal amid rain on Friday, said the BJP has spread a wrong notion about the Congress leader but this Yatra has busted all their myths about him.

“Why not?” he said when asked whether Gandhi is capable of becoming the prime minister of India.

“Not everyone can walk from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, covering a distance of over 3,500 kms. It needs a lot of determination and love for the country. He has shown his concern for the country and I do not see any politics in this Yatra,” the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader said.

However, he said Gandhi himself has been saying that he is not willing to be the prime minister but “when people want to see him on the top post, he will be left with no choice”.

Rejecting the idea of a third front without the Congress, Raut said the grand old party has a lot of weight and has presence in every nook and corner of the country. “No third front can be successful without Congress, this time it has a low number of MPs but the situation is going to change in 2024. Without the Congress, no front can be successful is a reality and this needs to be taken into account.”

“The main purpose of my visit to J and K was to join the Gandhi-led Yatra at the direction of my leader and I had a good experience walking alongside Gandhi. It is not a political Yatra,” he said.

Raut, who reached here on January 19 and also visited protesting Kashmiri Pandit and Dogra employees seeking relocation from Kashmir over the past six months following the targeted killings, said he was surprised to find out that J-K is faced with the same issues which were discussed by him over a decade ago.

“Governments changed and so the politics but whether it is an issue of Kashmiri Pandits, refugees, law and order situation, security concerns of the people and terrorism, the questions are still same,” he said, slamming the BJP for its “failure to turn Kashmir back into paradise” over the past eight years.

He said four years have passed but there is no assembly election even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government promised large scale investment, creation of jobs for unemployed and return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits.

About the party’s strategy for the next assembly elections whenever held in J-K, Raut said his party is open to a grand alliance provided it gets a respectable place. “Otherwise, we will go for polls alone as J-K is full of public issues which have remained unresolved for years.”

He said the BJP under Modi is a big party but “If you see barring a few states, it is dependent on other parties or divided its own coalition partners to stay in power.”

  • India’s Population overtakes China’s as China mistakenly reports real Covid deaths

    [ad_1]

In a significant development, India has reportedly surpassed China as the world’s most populous country. According to projections from the World Population Review (WPR), India’s population was 141.7 crore as of the end of 2022. That’s a little more than 50 lakh more than the 141.2 crore declared by China on January 17.

India’s population momentarily surpassed China’s population as China mistakenly reported right number of Covid deaths in the country. However, China regained its position after rectifying the Covid death reports.

China called WPR report misleading and claimed there are a very few deaths in China due to Covid.

Speaking to The New York Times, Elon Musk said “I assure the world that increasing population isn’t a threat as I am already building houses in Mars and exploring lives in Uranus.

  • India’s Exports Fell 17% To $29.78 Bn In Oct, Trade Deficit Widens To $26.91 Bn

India’s Exports Fell 17% To $29.78 Bn In Oct, Trade Deficit Widens To $26.91 Bn

    [ad_1]

India’s exports fell 17% to $29.78 billion in October, while its trade deficit increased to $26.91 billion.

According to data released by the commerce ministry on Tuesday, the country’s overall outbound shipments decreased by 16.65% to $29.78 billion in October as a result of a decline in some sectors’ merchandise exports, and the merchandise trade deficit increased to $26.91 billion from $25.71 billion the previous month, news agency PTI reported.

The report showed that imports for the month totaled $56.69 billion, compared to $53.64 billion in October 2021.

This year, from April to October, exports increased by 12.55 percent to $263.35 billion. Data show that imports increased 33.12% to $436.81 billion.

Between September 2022 and October 2022, both merchandise exports and imports slowed sequentially, which, in our opinion, was caused by more holidays associated with the holiday season.

In spite of the significant YoY decrease in the merchandise exports statistic, the trade deficit worsened in MoM terms during this time, albeit not alarmingly, according to ICRA Chief Economist Aditi Nayar who was quoted by Livemint.

When compared to November 2021, which had a later start to the holiday season, the sequential trend of exports in October 2022 is similar to what was observed in November 2021.

Given the current global demand issues, Nayar continued, “At this point, we anticipate some recovery in exports and imports in November 2022 relative to October 2022, albeit it may not be as substantial as the pattern seen in November and December of 2021.

  • India’s First Voter Shyam Saran Negi Dies In Himachal Pradesh At The Age Of 106

India’s First Voter Shyam Saran Negi Dies In Himachal Pradesh At The Age Of 106

    [ad_1]

Shyam Saran Negi, the country’s first voter, passed away on November 5, 2022, at his residence in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. He was 106.

Using a postal ballot for the first time, Negi exercised his right to vote on November 2 for the assembly elections of the state that would take place on November 12. Negi had never missed an opportunity to vote in his life. Given the harsh winters and early snowfall in Kinnaur, it was decided to hold the vote there on October 25, 1951, when the first general elections were announced in the country. In contrast, elections were held in other regions of the country in January and February of 1952, according to Times of India.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur expressed his condolences for the passing on Twitter and said it would always make him sad to think that Mr. Negi exercised his right to do so despite being ill.

After the election two days prior, Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Abid Hussian Sadiq honored the centenarian at his home.

Mr. Negi was the brand ambassador for the Election Commission. His funeral will be attended by district election officials, according to Himachal Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Maneesh Garg.
