Apple India retail store to boost overall ecosystem experience for users: Experts

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Apples own brick-and-mortar store in India will further strengthen the overall experience of being in an Apple ecosystem for its fans in the country, experts said on Wednesday.

With its own branded retail store — the first one being opened in Mumbai this month — Apple will be able to control end-to-end user experience which will further take its brand image to another level.

“We have seen many stories around the world about consumers sharing positive purchase experiences from the Apple branded stores and India will be no different,” Counterpoint Research Director Tarun Pathak told IANS.

    MS Education Academy

Apple has finally lifted the curtains off its much-awaited own branded retail store at Jio World Drive Mall in Mumbai, officially marking the upcoming opening of Apple BKC.

Inspired by the iconic ‘Kaali Peeli’ taxi art unique to Mumbai, the Apple BKC creative includes colourful interpretations of the decals combined with many Apple products and services that will be available for our customers to discover.

According to Counterpoint data, Mumbai contributed 10 per cent of iPhone sales and the second largest for Apple, after Delhi, in 2022.

Over the past couple of years, Apple’s India strategy has been coming along well, including increased domestic manufacturing, aggressive marketing and affordability initiatives, and the success of the Apple India Online store.

“Offline retail continues to be critical for all consumer tech companies in a large, diverse market like India. Indian Consumers love to touch, feel and explore the products, before making their purchase considerations,” Prabhu Ram, Head, Industry Intelligence Group, CMR, told IANS.

Interestingly, the premium smartphone segment in India has been growing in double digits.

“The Apple-owned flagship retail stores come with favorable tailwinds, and are a critical lynchpin in Apple’s bid to win the India market. Apple’s retail stores globally set a standard in terms of consumer experience, staff knowledge and expertise, and the service standards, beyond products,” Ram noted.

Apple will launch a retail store in New Delhi at a later date.

Apple sold 2 million iPhones in India in the holiday quarter (Q4) of 2022, registering 18 per cent growth (quarter-on-quarter) for its flagship device.

The India market share of iPhones reached 5.5 per cent for 2022, an 11 per cent growth (year-on-year).

  • Telangana tops in police ranking, says India Justice Report 2022

Telangana tops in police ranking, says India Justice Report 2022

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The State of Telangana has topped the police ranking as per the India Justice Report (IJR) 2022 in the category of large and mid-sized States of the country.

In the year 2020, it was at rank 10. Telangana has been followed by Karnataka and then Andhra Pradesh. Orissa is at rank 4 and Uttarakhand is at rank 5 followed by Tamil Nadu. The state of West Bengal is at rank 18 which is the lowest.

The IJR 2022 was released on Tuesday in New Delhi.

    MS Education Academy

The report shows that in the category of small states, the state of Sikkim is at rank 1, followed by Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya at rank 2 and 3. The State of Sikkim is maintaining its rank of 2019 and 2020. In this category, Tripura is at the rank seven which is the lowest.

However, the report shows that in the police, there are only about 11.75 per cent women, despite their numbers doubling in the last decade.

It also says that about 29 per cent of the officer positions are vacant. The police-to-population ratio is 152.8 per lakh. The international standard is 222.

Nationally, in police: 22 per cent of (Constables), 29 per cent (Officers) are vacant. However, some states including Telangana have reduced police vacancies, the report said.

In Telangana vacancy has been reduced in constabulary from 40 per cent to 26 per cent, and in Madhya Pradesh among officers from 49 per cent to 21 per cent.

The IJR also expressed concern about the representation of women in police. It says while the overall share of women in the police force is about 11.75 pc, in the officer ranks it is still lower at 8 pc.

The report also sheds some light on the position of CCTV surveillance in police stations across the country. It says that one in four (about 25 per cent) police stations do not have a single CCTV.

However, the Supreme Court had directed all states to install CCTV capable of audio recording.

The IJR also says that nearly three in 10 police stations do not have women’s help desks.

The report also says only 1.3 per cent of the total police budget is spent on training. It is more than 2 per cent only in five states.

Singh was speaking at the function to release the Hindi poetic translation of ‘Ramcharitmanas’ by former bureaucrat Dhiraj Bhatnagar.

“I do not wish to mislead you. I will not say that we have ushered in Ram Rajya in the country. But, we have definitely moved in that direction,” he said.

  • India rejects China’s renaming of places in Arunachal Pradesh

India rejects China’s renaming of places in Arunachal Pradesh

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: India on Tuesday outrightly rejected China’s renaming of certain places in Arunachal Pradesh, and asserted that the state is an integral and inalienable part of India.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said attempts to assign “invented names” will not alter this reality.

“We have seen such reports. This is not the first time China has made such an attempt. We reject this outright,” Bagchi said.

    MS Education Academy

“Arunachal Pradesh is, has been, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India. Attempts to assign invented names will not alter this reality,” he said.

His comments came in response to media queries regarding the renaming of certain places in Arunachal Pradesh by China.

China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs on Sunday released standardised names of 11 places for Arunachal Pradesh, which it calls “Zangnan, the southern part of Tibet”.

Result of PM Modi’s ‘eloquent silence’: Cong

The Congress took strong objection to China renaming several places in Arunachal Pradesh and said it is the result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “clean chit” to the neighbouring country and his “eloquent silence” on Chinese actions at the border.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the country continues to face the consequences of Modi’s clean chit to China.

“For the third time, China has dared to rename our areas in Arunachal Pradesh. April 21, 2017 — 6 places, December 30, 2021 — 15 places, April 3, 2023 — 11 places.

“Arunachal Pradesh is and will remain an integral part of India. After Galwan, the country is facing the consequences of Modiji’s clean chit to China,” Kharge said in a tweet in Hindi.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Jairam Ramesh said a top Chinese diplomat has recently claimed that the India-China border situation is now “stable”.

“But China’s provocations and transgressions continue. It has now released a third set of Chinese names for places in Arunachal Pradesh, having done so earlier in 2017 and 2021.

“This is the price we continue to pay for PM Modi’s clean chit to China in June 2020 and his eloquent silence on Chinese actions,” Ramesh said in a statement.

He said almost three years later, Chinese forces continue to deny Indian patrolling teams access to the strategic Depsang plains to which they previously had unimpeded access.

“And now the Chinese are attempting to undermine the status quo in Arunachal Pradesh.

“Arunachal Pradesh has always been and remains an integral and unalienable part of India. The people of Arunachal Pradesh are proud and patriotic citizens of India. There should be no doubt whatsoever on the collective resolve of India, and of all Indians, to ensure that these realities are not disturbed in any way,” the Congress leader said.

According to media reports, China has renamed 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh.

  • Is India seeing another Covid wave?

Is India seeing another Covid wave?

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: While India has seen the sharpest rise in Covid cases since the third wave in January 2022, experts on Monday opined that the current surge in infections is only “mild” but a “cause for concern” too.

India on Monday reported 3,641 infections, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. On Saturday, it reported 3,824 new Covid-19 infections — the biggest single-day rise in about 184 days.

Last week, the country had seen a surge with 18,450 fresh cases, a substantial rise from the previous week’s 8,781 cases.

    MS Education Academy

The Omicron variant XBB.1.16 is believed to be behind the sudden surge of the cases.

“The new variant along with other factors, which include a decrease in Covid appropriate behaviour and a change in weather — makes us more susceptible to respiratory conditions. We might see a mild wave happening, but by and large it will be mild and cause mild disease, not severe and not really result in hospitalisations,” Dr Randeep Guleria – Chairman, Institute of Internal Medicine and Respiratory & Sleep Medicine and Director-Medical Education, Medanta, told IANS.

“With the introduction of every new variant, there could be a transient surge in the number of cases. The current scenario is another such surge. While we dont expect another wave, however, we need to be careful and vigilant in monitoring the variants, mutations, and trends in the number of cases,” added Dr Rohit Kumar Garg, Consultant, Department of Infectious Diseases, Amrita Hospital, Faridabad.

Dr Maria Van Kerkhove, technical lead for the Covid response at the World Health Organisation (WHO), recently said that there are about 800 sequences of Omicron variant XBB.1.16 from 22 countries. Most of the sequences are from India and in India XBB.1.16 has replaced the other variants that are in circulation.

Van Kerkhove said that XBB.1.16 has a similar profile to XBB.1.5, but has additional changes in the spike protein.

In lab studies, XBB.1.16 has shown signs of increased infectivity as well as potentially increased pathogenicity, she added.

“XBB.1.16 is a sublineage of the Omicron variant. The genomic sequence data indicates that XBB 1.16 has few additional spike mutations. As reported, this new variant is similar to other variants with respect to mode of transmission, route of infection, and clinical manifestations. As of now, the available data suggests a mild nature of illness in the majority of the patients,” Garg said.

“However, the situation is cause for concern and to step up our Covid appropriate behaviour strategies,” he noted.

Guleria said that XBB.1.16 “is possibly more infectious but current data does not suggest that it is more virulent and causes more severe infection”.

Garg noted that with the evolution of the pandemic so far and the mutating nature of this virus it seems logical to state the virus is going to stay.

While the additional mutations on XBB.1.16 have impacted its transmissibility, “immune evasiveness is yet to be seen”. Further, considering the mutating nature of this virus, “we can expect small outbreaks in future also”.

In such a scenario, “everyone must take a third dose, particularly patients at high risk of severe diseases. The available vaccines are safe and protect us against severe disease,” Garg told IANS.

Garg also called for increasing awareness about use of masks, among other preventive strategies.

“In my opinion, the use of masks should be recommended to all symptomatic (respiratory tract infections) patients, individuals with risk factors for severe disease and their close contacts, particularly in closed crowded settings,” Garg said.

  • Gen Bajwa put pressure on me to develop friendly ties with India, claims Imran Khan

Gen Bajwa put pressure on me to develop friendly ties with India, claims Imran Khan

    [ad_1]

Lahore: Pakistan’s ousted prime minister Imran Khan has claimed that the then Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa had put pressure on him to develop friendly ties with India.

Relations between India and Pakistan have often been strained over the Kashmir issue and cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan. However, their ties nose-dived after India abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution, revoking the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcating the State into two Union Territories on August 5, 2019.

“Gen Bajwa wanted me to develop friendly ties with India. He put pressure on me for this and it was one of the reasons our relationship deteriorated,” Khan claimed during an interaction with social media journalists at his Lahore’s Zaman Park residence on Saturday evening.

    MS Education Academy

He, however, reiterated his stance that Pakistan should only hold peace talks with India provided New Delhi restores the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

India has repeatedly told Pakistan that it desires normal neighbourly relations with Islamabad in an environment free of terror, hostility and violence.

The 70-year-old Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman further said what Gen (retd.) Bajwa did to Pakistan even an enemy couldn’t do. “Bajwa should be held accountable by the army,” he said.

Khan in the past accused Bajwa of not only toppling his country that laid a foundation of economic disaster but also committing atrocities against him, his party members and journalists. “Bajwa wanted me killed,” Khan alleged.

Khan has been at loggerheads with Gen (retd.) Bajwa ever since his ouster from power in April last year by a no-confidence motion.

Gen (retd) Bajwa retired on November 29 last year after two consecutive three-year terms.

Regarding the PML-N led federal government’s assertion that it would not accept the verdict of a three-member bench of Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial in polls in two provinces, Khan said: “I know what kind of benefits this cabal of corrupts would get by delaying the elections in Punjab and Kyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. They are just delaying elections hoping to crush the PTI or finish Imran Khan.” Khan asked the ruling alliance to explain the reasons for postponing polls till October, 2023. “If elections are not held within 90 days in two provinces Pakistan will be without a constitution,” he said.

Khan’s party had dissolved assemblies in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces in January after which a caretaker setup took over. Under the constitution, elections are held within 90 days from the date of dissolution of an assembly.

“Pakistan is facing a critical moment in its history. The nation must stand by the Constitution and rule of law,” Khan asserted.
