San Francisco: Meta-owned Instagram has announced a new feature, which will allow users to add up to five links to their profile bios.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday announced the new feature in a post on his Instagram channel, saying, “the feature has been a top request among creators”, reports The Verge.
With the new feature, users can now add links by editing their profile in the mobile app, where they can give them titles and reorder how they’ll appear.
However, if a user adds more than one link to their profile, visitors will need to click through a message that says “(Your first link) and 1 other” to view the complete list of links, according to the report.
This means that if a user has more than one link to display on their Instagram profile or already utilises a ‘Link in bio’ service like Linktree, folks will have to click an extra time to see their links.
Meanwhile, Instagram has announced new features on its short-video making app to empower creators.
The social network has added a dedicated destination for trending audio and hashtags, two new metrics to Reels insights and brought gifts on Reels to more countries.
Creators will now be able to see what the top trending topics and hashtags are on Reels.
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has written a letter to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah calling him to include Tamil as a language for the written test in the recruitment for Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF).
In a statement on Sunday, the Tamil Nadu government said that the Chief Minister had written a letter to the Union Home Minister stating that in the notification for the written test to the recruitment for CRPF, it was mentioned that the test could be taken in English and Hindi.
The state government in the statement said that of the 9,212 vacancies in CRPF, 579 have to be filled from Tamil Nadu and the exams are to be held in 12 centres across the state.
Stalin said that the aspirants from Tamil Nadu will be unable to write the test in their mother tongue in their native place.
The government release said that there was a Hindi comprehension for 25 marks out of 100 marks and this would be beneficial for only Hindi-speaking students.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, according to the statement from the state government said that the CRPF notification was against those applying for the post from Tamil Nadu and added that this was not only unilateral but amounts to being discriminatory.
He also said that the notification was against the constitutional rights of the job aspirant.
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister called upon Union Home Minister Shah and sought his immediate intervention for allowing aspirants in non-Hindi speaking states to write the test in their mother tongue.
Hyderabad: Telangana IT minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party working president KT Rama Rao on Friday requested the Union home minister Amit Shah to revise the CRPF recruitment notification to include Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and other official languages.
He said that the Computer Based Test (CBT), a part of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) recruitment tests, is only being conducted in English and Hindi sharing a screengrab of the notification on Twitter.
Addressing a tweet to the union minister, KTR said, “These competitive exams are being held only in English and Hindi, which is a serious disadvantage to students who did not study in English medium or are not from Hindi-speaking States”.
He further said “The National Recruitment Agency has decided to facilitate a Common Eligibility Test (NRA-CET) to replace multiple examinations & conduct these in 12 Indian languages”.
He pointed out the decision is not being implemented properly and highlighted the same in the notification released by the CRPF.
CRPF is set to conduct an open competitive exam for recruitment into vacancies in Constable (Technical and Tradesman) posts in the CRPF as per the rules formulated by the ministry of Home Affairs.
The recruitment process will consist of a Computer Based Test, Physical Standards Test (PST), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), trade test, along with document verification, and medical examination.
Under section 2.3 and 12.1.1, the recruitment notification by CRPF stipulates that the CBT will be conducted in English and Hindi only.
The notification states that the tentative dates for CBT are from July 1 to July 13, 2023.

New Delhi: The Comptroller and Auditor General of India’s outreach is now being extended to include political executives to highlight audit concerns.
“The intent is to build a shared understanding of the most pressing concerns in governance and find possible solutions,” Comptroller and Auditor General of India Girish Chandra Murmu said on Wednesday.
Murmu said that the media is a very powerful tool that adds value to society.
“In the Indian context, it has helped to disseminate the government’s plans and initiatives. As a probationer, you have to understand the perspective and vision of your department, and it should improve the country’s image in the international arena,” he said this during an orientation programme with the Officer Trainees of the Indian Information Service (IIS).
The probationers belong to three batches of 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Murmu stressed that the public has the right to access fair and objective information, whether it is about the government or otherwise.
“As officers, you should be able to guide the ministries and departments, the dignitaries and functionaries you are going to cover. Here, positioning, marketing and principles will come to play a role. The core of your training is to learn these strategies, and the soft skills to add value to you work,” he said.
Noticing that most of the officers are from engineering background, Murmu said that technical skills should be used to handle the challenges of future media, especially with emerging self-help AI tools such as ChatGPT.
He said that the trainee IIS officers should gear up to meet the challenges posed by Big Data and Artificial Intelligence.
During the Q&A session, one of the probation officers asked Murmu if the CAG, which is the guardian of the public purse, actually enables citizens to know about the government’s expenditure and receipts in an informed way.
To this, the CAG replied that there are several IEC programmes for raising awareness on social audits.
Asked whether the perception of the CAG as a paper tiger was true or not, Murmu said “the CAG audits strengthen the accountability of government projects and, thereby, upholds the ideals of democracy”.
During the day-long session, senior CAG officers took sessions to explain the working of the institution. Deputy CAG, Ila Singh, spoke on the evolution of the CAG and the different types of audits it carries out with the highest professional standards.

San Francisco: Tech giant Google is rolling out a new feature to its video-communication service ‘Google Meet’, which will allow users to include captions in a meeting recording.
The new feature will help make meeting recordings more useful and accessible for meeting participants, the tech giant said in a Workspace Updates blogpost.
To record a meeting, the feature must be enabled by the admin and the user has to be a meeting host and be a part of the host’s organisation.
However, if the host management is on, users will need to be a meeting co-host to access the new feature.
Moreover, the user must be promoted to a co-host to use the feature if they are outside the meeting hosts’ organisation, the company said.
Meanwhile, last month, the tech giant had announced that it is rolling out a new feature to ‘Google Meet’ which will allow users to share access to the content they are presenting in a meeting with attendees, including everyone on the Calendar guest list.
The feature is helpful because by allowing sharing directly from Meet, users can easily share presented content without having to switch to another window to grant access.
