  • Iran says probe shows no toxic substance in student poisoning incidents

Iran says probe shows no toxic substance in student poisoning incidents

    [ad_1]

Tehran: Iran’s Intelligence Ministry has said its probe found no actual poisoning in the mass reports of students being poisoned at schools across the country.

The Ministry said on Friday in a statement published on its website that no toxic substance was found disseminated at schools after months of investigations into the incidents, during which suspects were either questioned or arrested and transferred to judicial authorities.

It added that the probe found no criminal groups were behind the poisoning cases, but dubious networks on social media which spread rumours to fuel fears and dissatisfaction among students’ parents, Xinhua news agency reported.

    MS Education Academy

The Ministry noted these networks are either being or will be sued, claiming Iran’s enemy has played an evident and undeniable role in provoking turmoil.

During the past months, hundreds of students at dozens of schools across Iran were referred to medical centres with symptoms similar to those of poisoning. Most of the students said they had smelled either an unpleasant or a weird odour before the emergence of the symptoms. The first case was reported in Qom province on November 30, according to reports by Iranian media.

Most of the students were, however, soon released from the hospital after receiving treatment, according to the official news agency IRNA.

UP: 2 kids mauled to death by dogs in separate incidents

    [ad_1]

Aligarh: Two children were mauled to death by dogs in separate incidents that occurred in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh and Moradabad districts.

In Aligarh, a three-month-old infant was mauled to death by a stray dog on Sunday when her family was attending a wedding near their house while she slept unattended.

The incident took place under Quarsi police station limits.

    MS Education Academy

The infant’s father, Pawan Kumar, a daily wager, said: “My two sisters were getting married and we had stepped out to attend the function. The baby was asleep unattended. In our absence, a dog took away our child and mauled her to death. When I returned, I could not find my daughter. When I looked for her, I saw the stray tearing into her in a nearby plot.”

SHO Arvind Rathi said: “The family cremated the body without informing us. A police team later inspected the spot, and higher officials have been informed about the incident.”

In the second incident, a seven-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Moradabad’s Bilari area also on Sunday.

The boy, Savendra Kumar, had gone out with his sister to serve tea to his father when they were surrounded by the strays.

The local SP MLA met the aggrieved family and said he would raise the matter in the state Assembly.

Indian-Americans forum condemn rising incidents of vandalism against Indian missions

    [ad_1]

Washington: As many as 44 Indian-American organisations have condemned the repeated attacks and instances of vandalism at various Indian institutions and the recent attacks on Indian diplomatic missions in San Francisco, London, and Brisbane, which they said have left the community in a state of shock and fear.

Under the banner of “Indian Diaspora Against Hate,” several eminent Indian-Americans and organisations from diverse backgrounds — cultural, linguistic and religious — across the country issued a signed letter condemning the violent attacks in which they called on all civic officials and federal, state and local law enforcement to take measures to ensure the safety of the Indian-American community.

Last month, a group of pro-Khalistan protesters attacked and damaged the Indian Consulate in San Francisco, prompting sharp condemnation from Indian-Americans who demanded immediate action against those responsible for it.

    MS Education Academy

A group of protesters carrying pro-Khalistan flags and banners in support of radical Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh gathered at the Parliament Square in London last month.

Representing Indian Americans from various cities and geographical locations, the organisations and community members urged citizens to be cautious of hate groups and report them to the administration.

They have also urged the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice to monitor extremists’ activities, prevent hateful attacks and take decisive action against these perpetrators of hate.

“Many Hindu community leaders have been threatened and they even attacked my residence recently,” said Dr Romesh Japra, cardiologist and community leader.

Madhu H, Social activist from Southern California said: “Khalistani extremists have a long and tragic track record of violence, including being responsible for the downing of an Air India jet in 1985, killing more than 300 people.” Venu M, a Hindu Leader from California State Capitol Sacramento was remembering the desecration of Gandhi statue in the City of Davis, said “Indian-Americans are increasingly concerned about the lack of safety for Indian- American institutions in the wake of these attacks.” The letter welcomed the statement of the State Department condemning the attack against the Indian Consulate at San Francisco.

It also welcomes the statement of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, rejecting hatred and attacks on Hindu temples.

It said that the community is concerned that the failure to check the violence by people who are motivated to disrupt peace and create a condition of fear is only encouraging an escalation in aggression, a media release said.

“Indian Diaspora Against Hate” is a forum to collaborate with Indian-American organisations, institutions, and Hindu temples who are concerned about the safety, security and well-being of the Indian diaspora and voice their opinion to the civic and law enforcement agencies.

Tripura: CPI-M says 668 incidents of violence since March 2; blames BJP

    [ad_1]

Agartala: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Sunday claimed that since the announcement of the February 16 assembly election results on March 2 which indicated that the BJP secured a majority, over 668 incidents of violence have taken place in Tripura.

Blaming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) — which bagged 32 of the 60 Assembly seats in the polls, thereby returning to power for its second term in the northeastern state, the CPI-M said at least three persons were killed while over 100 injured in the episodes of violence.

Many properties and houses were destroyed/ damaged during the violence, the CPI-M claimed.

CPI-M’s Tripura secretary Jitendra Chowdhury, accompanied by former minister Tapan Chakraborty and Left Front convener Narayan Kar on Sunday met Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha and apprised him about the prevailing “violent situation” in Tripura.

“In view of the series of attacks since March 2, thousands of people, including women and children, fled from their homes. They took shelter in the jungle and outside the state,” Chowdhury, a CPI-M central committee member, told the media.

He said that the “BJP goons and party workers attacked people, burning down their houses and properties”.

“Police remained a silent spectator and refused to register FIRs. The Chief Secretary, quoting the Director General of Police, said that 238 people were arrested in connection with the violent incidents. Actually these 238 people were detained for a while and after some time were let off,” the Left leader said.

He said that in the February 16 assembly polls, over 61 per cent of people did not cast their votes in favour of the BJP, adding that the saffron party’s 11 per cent vote share declined compared to the 2018 assembly polls’ outcome.

The CPI-M leader said that a large number of vehicles, shops, business establishments, houses, rubber gardens, fish ponds and other properties belonging to opposition party supporters have been burnt down or destroyed during the past four days.

Meanwhile, caretaker Chief Minister Manik Saha accompanied by the police chief Amitabh Ranjan visited Sepahijala and Khowai districts.

The police officers and the administration have been instructed to take strict action against the law breakers.
