Hyderabad: The managing director of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) Dana Kishore advised citizens to store and use the water consciously after inspecting the pipeline works site in Kukunoorpally, Siddipet areas.

Supply of drinking water will be affected in several areas of the city for 66 hours from 6 am on March 8 to 12 midnight on March 10.

Shapur reservoir commanding area, Chintal reservoir commanding area, and several other areas will face complete disruption.

“There will be an interruption of water supply to as many as 2.5 lakh connections in the city,” he said speaking to the officials at the water works department in Khairatabad.

Kishore ordered the officials to ensure water supply to the affected areas by March 10. He instructed the officials to provide water to the affected areas through tankers until the water supply resumes.

He directed the officials to prioritize the supply of water tankers to slum areas and increase the number of trips as a necessity.

The pipeline works near Siddipet are a part of the Godavari drinking water supply phase – 1 that supplies water to Hyderabad.

He inspected the ongoing works and asked the officials to complete the pipeline works in 48 hours instead of the pre-decided 66 hours. He directed the officials to prepare a special plan in this regard and asked them to ensure that the works are done carefully.

He directed the officials to double the work force to finish the work and consult technical experts, if required.

“Ensure that additional machines, tools and construction materials are available. Protective equipment should be made available in the work site. Safety measures should be followed while working,” he said.

Dana Kishore instructed them to use proper barricading equipment to make sure that unauthorised people do not have access to the site.

  • ‘Climate change, global warming impacted tea plantation in Assam’

‘Climate change, global warming impacted tea plantation in Assam’

    [ad_1]

Guwahati: Climate change and global warming have adversely affected tea plantations in Assam in the last few years, experts said, adding that without irrigation, tea plantations are finding it difficult to survive.

    P. Soman, senior agronomist and plant physiology expert, said that climate change is one of the top five challenges of the tea industry in Assam.

Soman, as a key speaker at a workshop at Golaghat, explained in depth “how changes in agronomy help micro irrigation technology to enhance crop performance”.

Tea plantations are highly climate dependent, he pointed out.

Speaking in the workshop, technical expert Vinay Radhakrishnan highlighted the importance of hydro pneumatic pumps of advanced technology.

The Tea Academy of North East Tea Association’s (NETA) has organised the two-day workshop on “Importance of Technology driven irrigation and fertigation in Tea” at the NETA headquarters at Golaghat.

Piyush Gattani, CEO of MD’s Organic (Distributor of Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd), highlighted the cost economics of installing drip irrigation with fertigation and automation in tea.

Senior tea planter from West Bengal, Shiv Saria, shared his broad experience and benefits he gained by using micro-irrigation in tea plantations.

Jain Irrigation Systems, for the first time in India, installed drip irrigation with fertigation and automation at around 100 hectares of tea plantation successfully in Assam’s Karbi Anglong.

Jain Irrigation is also working hand in hand with the tea plantation to introduce the latest precision micro-irrigation technology or need-based irrigation system.

In this system, the decision to irrigate and fertigate an agricultural field is derived based on inputs received from satellite field data, soil moisture sensors and other applications, NETA Advisor Bidyananda Barkakoty said.

He said that the two-day workshop was an eye opener to new possibilities of sustainable agricultural development and a way to deal with challenges faced by the tea farmers of Assam.

Assam, which produces roughly 55 per cent of India’s tea, has more than 10 lakh tea workers in the organised sector, working in about 850 big estates.

Besides, there are lakhs of small tea gardens owned by individuals.

The tea belts of Assam’s Brahmaputra and Barak Valley are home to more than 60 lakh people.

  • Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code impacted startup culture: SC judge

Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code impacted startup culture: SC judge

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul of the Supreme Court on Saturday said the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) has had a big role to play in India’s new “startup culture” as it created a conducive environment for budding entrepreneurs.

Speaking at the Insolvency Law Academy’s inaugural conference on the topic of “Emerging Global Insolvency Horizon: Indian Footprint and Front View”, Justice Kaul said India’s economy has been growing since the early 1990s, leading to an expansion of the credit market.

“In my opinion, the IBC has also had a big role to play in India’s new startup culture by creating a conducive environment for budding entrepreneurs,” he said.

Justice Kaul said the expansion of the credit market has resulted in an increase in non-performing loans and assets.

“To solve this problem, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code was enacted in 2016 primarily to serve two purposes — first, to ensure that debtors take sound and practical decisions and second, to give financially-ailing corporate entities a chance to rehabilitate and continue their business.

“The IBC essentially consolidated laws relating to insolvency resolution of companies, partnerships and individuals. Hence, the implementation of the IBC in India marked the beginning of a new era that completely overhauled India’s insolvency regime,” he said.

The apex court judge said in the early years of the code’s implementation, there were complex questions that required authoritative and conclusive answers.

But this provided an opportunity not only to the judiciary, but all the professionals to contribute towards laying an infallible foundation, he added.

Justice Kaul said the diversity in the Indian society must be reflective in all fields of life as it brings on the table varied views and experiences and wholesome solutions.

“I believe that the main issue in ensuring a successful representation is unconscious bias. This has led to a vicious cycle where on one hand, newcomers are not given a platform to showcase their talent due to their lack of experience.

“But on the other hand, these newcomers cannot find that experience if opportunities are not granted to them. Hence, I look forward to following how the discussions on bringing diversity into the process of insolvency, along with gender inclusivity, are dealt with by the panellists,” he said.

The judge said mediation might also help reduce the burden on the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).

“Alternative resolution of such disputes will not only provide an avenue to the entities without facing an adversarial process, but can also result in speedy and cost-effective solutions for the creditors. We have to realise that these are not professional creditors so as to say.

“These are people who have invested their life savings to be able to cherish the dream of owning their own house. In these cases, it becomes all the more urgent to ensure that the relief extended to the homebuyers is not only effective, but also quick and least cumbersome,” Justice Kaul said.
