Hyderabad: India on Friday joined over 65 nations in celebrating the 2nd World Quantum Day.

Since 2021, April 14 has been designated as World Quantum Day globally to mark the research efforts using quantum technologies. April 14 was selected by the World Quantum Network aimed at promoting the public understanding of Quantum Science and Technology globally.

April 14 is significant as it is a reference to 4.14, the rounded first digits of Planck’s constant – 4.135667696×10-15 eV/Hz, a product of energy and time that is the fundamental constant governing quantum physics.

This network constitutes scientist representatives from over 65 countries. Representing India are professor Urbasi Sinha from the Raman Research Institute (RRI), Bengaluru, and professor Arun K Pati, Head of Centre for Quantum Science and Technology, International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIITH), a press note informed.

“It is lovely to have a day in the year dedicated to celebrate all things quantum. RRI has been at the forefront of quantum technology research in the country. I am excited at the future prospects in this field for Indian researchers,” said Prof. Urbasi Sinha, Group Head, Quantum Information and Computing (QuIC) lab at RRI.

Sharing his views on quantum technologies, Professor Arun K. Pati, Head of Centre for Quantum Science and Technology, International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIITH) said, “Quantum Mechanics rules all the happenings in the universe. More so, quantum mechanics has given rise to revolutionary fields of Quantum Computing, Quantum Communication, and Quantum Technology – all of which will have a lasting contributions to society at large.”

This year’s World Quantum Day commemorated the Nobel Prize in Physics (2022) which was awarded to the trio Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser, and Anton Zeilinger for their efforts and experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science.

In India, online and physical events were organised to mark this day. Around the world 350 events were planned to observe this day, the WQN website said.

Hyderabad: The Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) Basara and Telangana State Council of Science and Technology (TSCOST) collaborate to encourage women in STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to establish Nirmal Innovation Hub that would identify young innovators and provide design and innovation training.

TSCOST member secretary M. Nagesh and RGUKT director P. Satish Kumar signed the MoU in the presence of minister for forests Indra Karan Reddy and RGUKT vice-chancellor V. Venkata Ramana on Thursday.

Speaking at the event, the minister said that the MoU will help in taking science to students from rural areas and promote innovation and entrepreneurship and also promote appreciation and understanding of science and technology from the Intermediate stage itself.

RFUKT’s VC said that they will set up the hub to encourage start-ups coming from rural areas so that they don’t need to go to Hyderabad.

Acknowledging Telangana IT minister KT Rama Rao and education minister Sabitha Indra Reddy’s initiative to provide more opportunities for RGUKT students, the VC held that the students will create a world-class institution.

Hyderabad: IIIT Hyderabad organized its semi-annual Demo Day this week to mark the opening of the year. 12 startups from various programs pitched to over 50+ investors that were invited to the demo day.

All 12 startups have interest from investors and conversations are on.

The startups originated across various solution realms, such as IOT-AI for Industrial automation, CV-based game data analysis, AR-VR-based virtual meeting platforms, and surveying, a press note informed.

All 12 startups are reportedly in conversations with the investors to take things forward.

“Research Translation and research-backed startups are one of the core focuses of CIE’s accelerators given IIITH’s rich experience in deep technology research innovations. It’s good to see more than 50 investors joining our demo day and are interested in such deep tech innovation,” said Prof Ramesh Loganathan, chief operating officer of CIE-IIITH

CIE is a 14-year-old incubator that has supported over 400 startups and has seed funded 25 startups. CIE-IIITH is focusing on turning a new leaf in terms of infrastructure facilities, programmes and startup engagements aiming to build a deep tech startup ecosystem.

Accelerator programs in CIE-IIITH offer up to 40L seed funding, and technology help through research labs of IIITH, along with strategy and GTM advisory leading up to initial customer traction.

IIIT Hyderabad holds Hackathon on ‘Sustainability through Technology’

    [ad_1]

February: The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIITH) in collaboration with the Pravaha Foundation conducted a PAN India Hackathon for students between the ages of 10-17 years.

Hackathon is an event where a large number of people meet to engage in collaborative computer programming.

There were 3 stages of filtration in the hackathon and the final stage was conducted physically at the IIITH campus where a total of 55 teams(3-4 students in each) registered in two categories from different cities of India.

The topic of the Hackathon was ‘Sustainability through Technology’, the purpose of which was to build solutions using technology for climate change issues and to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) no.10 and 13.

For the final phase, the 1st category(10-13yrs) tried to find solutions for the problem statement on Automated water management- Monitor and control usage of water.

The 2nd category (14-17 years) tried to build solutions around Automated Disaster management (including forest fire, litho-disaster, and water-borne disasters).

Participants worked on their solution model for 2 days in their respective teams at the IIITH campus using Robotics, IoT, and App Development combinations to execute the solutions.

For the finale, 3 faculty members from IIITH (Prof Ramesh Loganathan, Prof Hari K and Prof Prakash Yalla), 2 faculty members from Mahindra University and economists(Asst Prof. KeertiPendyal and Asst Prof. Anjali Rajan), environmentalist/founder of the rainwater project, Kalpana Ramesh, and advisor, Agustya International Foundation- M G Subramanian were invited to evaluate the teams based on their solutions and presentations.

On the last day, the panel members not only evaluated the model solutions presented by kids but also gave them suggestions/opportunities to apply the prototype and extend it to real-life implementation.

Everyone including mentors, judges and the organizing team was impressed by the enthusiastic, innovative, and conscious young mindset of the participants.

The Hackathon developed problem-solving abilities, design thinking capability, presentation and entrepreneurial skills, and environmental awareness among the students.

Winners and runners-up received mementoes, cash prizes of up to Rs 25,000, certificates and an opportunity to participate in the next international Hackathon organized by Pravaha.
