Hyderabad girl dies in accident in UK, family awaits mortal remains

Hyderabad: A girl from Hyderabad, who went to the United Kingdom (UK) to pursue higher studies, met with an accident and died in a sea wave.
Informing about the incident, the girl’s father, who resides in Hyderabad, said she went to the UK to pursue a Master’s in space engineering and met with the tragic accident last Tuesday.
However, the family in Hyderabad is still awaiting her mortal remains.

The mortal remains of Sai Tejaswi Kommareddy will be brought to Hyderabad on Friday.
Speaking to ANI, the father of the deceased girl, Shashidhar Reddy, said, “My daughter went to the UK to study for a Master’s in space engineering. She died accidentally in a sea wave there. Union Minister Kishan Reddy and others helped us a lot in clearing procedural hurdles to bringing back her last remains to India. The incident took place last Tuesday (April 11).”
“As per our information, they went to the place to relax after finishing the exams but unfortunately she died,” he said.
“It is said that 3 others also died there but our daughter’s body was found first and two others were found the next day. The deceased body will reach here by Friday night,” the father of the girl told ANI.

Eidgahs being readied for Eid ul Fitr in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Eid ul Fitr will be celebrated on Saturday or Sunday and the arrangements to facilitate congregational prayers at the Eidgahs have started.
At the nearly two-century-old Eidgah Mir Alam, the workers are giving a fresh coat whitewash to the arch and the walls. The workers levelled the uneven muddy paths and grounds. Inside the main periphery of Eidgah, the weeds protruding out of the stone flooring are cleared. Roads leading to Eidgah from Tadban and Shastripuram are re-carpeted. The Telangana State Wakf Board and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation sanctioned funds for taking up various works at the Eidgah in
Around 2 lakh people attend the Eid ul Fitr prayers every year at the Mir Alam Eidgah. The Eidgah was established around 1805 by Mir Alam Bahadur or Mir Abul Qasim, a Paigah noble who worked with the Nizams.

People from various neighbouring districts of Hyderabad like Vikarabad, Nalgonda, Medak, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar and Ranga Reddy visit the Eidgah to attend the congregational prayers.
The oldest Eidgah of the city, the ‘Khadeem Eidgah’ or ‘Purani Eidgah’ is stated to be around 400 years old and built during the Qutb Shahi (or Golconda) dynasty in the 16th century.
About 50 to 60 thousand people gather there to attend the Eid prayers. Inside the Eidgah premises around 15,000 attend prayers while another 35 to 40 thousand attend prayers outside on the roads.
The GHMC and the Telangana State Wakf Board sanctioned a special budget for making the arrangements. INTACH’s Hyderabad chapter has also conferred the Heritage Award in 2011 Eidgah at Madannapet.
Similarly, the Qutb Shahi tombs, where the Golconda kings were laid to rest also have an Eidgah. Arrangements are underway at the Eidgah Balamrai at Secunderabad, Eidgah Pahadishareef, Eidgah LB Nagar and Eidgah First Lancer.

Hyderabad: CBI grills Kadapa MP for 8 hours in Viveka murder case

Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) grilled Kadapa MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy for about eight hours in former minister Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy’s murder case on Wednesday.
Avinash Reddy, cousin of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Redddy, left CBI regional office in Hyderabad in the evening. He has been asked to appear again on Thursday.
As per the directions of the Telangana High Court, the MP has to appear daily before the CBI till April 25.

This was the fifth time that the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MP appeared before the CBI.
The Telangana High Court had on Tuesday directed the CBI not to arrest Avinash Reddy till April 25.
In its interim order on anticipatory bail petition of the MP, the court directed him to appear before the CBI daily till April 25.
The CBI had summoned Avinash Reddy for questioning on April 17 but the agency twice deferred the questioning due to hearing of his anticipatory bail petition.
The final order on the anticipatory bail plea will be delivered on April 25.

Meanwhile, the CBI also questioned Avinash Reddy’s father Y.S. Bhaskar Reddy and another accused Uday Kumar Reddy for five and a half hours.
A day after a CBI court sent Bhaskar Reddy and Uday Kumar Reddy to CBI custody, the central agency took their custody from Chanchalguda Central Jail and after a medical check-up at Osmania General Hospital, brought them to the CBI office.
Bhaskar Reddy was arrested by the CBI on April 16 while his follower Uday Kumar Reddy was arrested on April 14 in Pulivendula town of Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh. Both were brought to Hyderabad where a court sent them to judicial custody.
It was immediately not clear if Avinash Reddy was questioned in the presence of Bhaskar Reddy and Uday Kumar Reddy.
The CBI officials are believed to have questioned them on the reasons for Vivekananda Reddy’s murder. They were reportedly grilled as to why they propagated that he died of cardiac arrest.
Vivekananda Reddy, brother of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and uncle of Jagan Mohan Reddy, was murdered at his residence in Pulivendula on March 15, 2019, a few days before the elections.
The 68-year-old former state minister and former MP was alone at his house when unidentified persons barged in and killed him.
The CBI took over the investigation into the case in 2020 on the direction of Andhra Pradesh High Court while hearing a petition of Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter Suneetha Reddy, who raised suspicion about some relatives.
The Supreme Court transferred the case to Hyderabad in November last year after Suneetha Reddy raised doubts about getting a fair trial and investigation in Andhra Pradesh.

US Consulate in Hyderabad at Nanakramguda to process over 3000 visas daily

Hyderabad: After its inauguration on March 20, the US Consulate in Hyderabad held its first press meeting at its Nanakramguda office in the city on Wednesday.
The press meet was addressed by Consul General, Jennifer Larson and Consular Chief, Rebekah Dramé. The officials clarified doubts over Dropbox facilities, visa wait times and other queries.
The officials stated that visa procession windows at this office have been increased to over 50. Consular appointments – both visa and U.S. citizen services appointments, have been increased from 1500, at Paigah Palace, to 3500 at Nanakramguda and soon more officials will be appointed to run the office at full capacity.

The officials stated that the US Mission in India has set a goal to process one million visas this year adding that apart from B1 and B2 visas, ie; for visitors, the wait times have been dropped down to below 6 months.
In terms of drop box facilities, they stated that if a person has in the past been granted any visa for the US, the drop box will ease the process for them as it waives off interviews and shortens wait time. Intercategory visa change or renewal may also be done through drop boxes.

The new facility of the US Consulate in Hyderabad, which is the largest US diplomatic mission in South Asia, was built with an investment of USD 297 million. The new consulate office, constructed on a 12.2-acre site, has many new features, including 54 visa procession windows.
The consulate is located at Sy. No. 115/1, Financial District, Nanakramguda, Hyderabad, Telangana, 500032.

US Consulate at Paigah Palace began operations in 2009
The US Consulate office in Hyderabad which is the first US diplomatic office to open in India after 1947 began its operation in 2009.
Till March 15, it was housed in Paigah Palace, Chiran Fort Lane, Hyderabad. It covers three states viz., Telangana State, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha.
The palace was built by Sir Vicar-ul-Umra who was a Paigah nobleman and it is spread on four-acre land. It is a double-storied building.
In the past 14 years, the US Consulate approved over 16 lakh visas and processed 42511 citizenship services. Now, the US authorities are looking forward to surpassing those numbers.

Unhappy with life, young Asst Prof turns porter in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Unhappy with his personal life, an Assistant Professor at an engineering college became a porter.
The bizarre incident occurred at Abdullapurmet on the outskirts of Hyderabad. A youth, working as an Assistant Professor at a private college, went missing on April 7 from the college hostel where he was staying. The college authorities thought that he might have gone to his native place in Khammam district in Telangana and contacted his family. However, the family members informed them that he had not come there.
After waiting for a few days, the family lodged a complaint with the police, which took up the investigation. The family members told police that in the past he had left home without informing them and was later found working as a porter in a market.

Abdullapurmet inspector Sunil Kumar and his team kept a watch at a local fruit market in Abdullapurmet. On Tuesday morning, the police noticed the youth arriving there to work as a porter. They took him into custody and handed him over to his family. The police advised the family to arrange counselling.

Is Hyderabad witnessing rise in COVID cases?

Hyderabad: Hyderabad is witnessing a slight rise in COVID cases. The daily count of COVID-19 cases has been increasing for the past few days in the city, along with a rise in active cases.
On April 12, 2023, the daily count of COVID cases in Hyderabad was 14, which increased to 21 on April 18, 2023.
In the entire Telangana, though no COVID deaths have been reported on Tuesday, the active cases climbed to 281 and the daily count of COVID cases jumped to 52.

Telangana government arranges precautionary dose of COVID vaccine
The Telangana government has taken precautions to tackle any surge in COVID cases. In view of the rise in COVID cases in many countries around the world and in some states within the country, the state government has arranged 5 lakhs CorBEvax doses despite its acute shortage in the country.
CorBEvax is a precautionary dose that can be administered to those who have already taken Covaxin or Covishield first and second dose.
The Telangana government has appealed to the public to take both doses of COVID vaccine. The government stated that it is well prepared to tackle any eventuality in the wake of concerns over Omicron, a new variant of SARS Cov-2.
Wearing face mask mandatory
The government also highlighted the importance of wearing a face mask and maintaining physical distance. According to the guidelines issued by the government, children aged less than 10 years of age and elders aged above 60 years of age must avoid going outdoors unless mandatory.
The government has reminded people that not wearing a mask is punishable by a fine. The guidelines mention that everybody should wear a mask before stepping out of the house as it is the first line of defense against the virus.

IPL 2023: Mumbai Indians defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 14 runs

Hyderabad: Mumbai Indians defeated hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad by 14 runs in the Indian Premier League here on Tuesday.

Cameron Green scored a timely half-century to help Mumbai Indians post a challenging 192 for five after being asked to bat.

The home team then kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 178 in 19.5 overs.

Earlier, Green scored an unbeaten 64 off 40 deliveries with the help of six fours and a couple of maximums.

Ishan Kishan (38) and Tilak Varma (37) also provided valuable contributions.

Marco Jansen (2/43) snared two wickets for the home team while Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/31) and T Natarajan (1/50) took wickets apiece.
