Turkey: 17-year-old Boy Takes THIS Extreme Step to Survive Under Rubble for 94 Hours- Details Here

A 17-year-old boy is sharing his story of survival after spending 94 hours trapped in rubble in the wake of the devastating earthquake that rocked Turkey early Monday.

Speaking via FaceTime from his hospital bed in Gaziantep, Turkey, Adnan Muhammet Korkut told ABC News he was asleep in his family’s home when the quake hit, and he then “got into the fetal position.”

While he was trapped, the teenager said that he drank his own urine and ate his family’s flowers to survive. “I set the alarm on my phone for every 25 minutes so I wouldn’t go to sleep. After two days, the battery went dead”, Korkut said.

As the rescue operation was going on, Korkut said, “I was hearing voices, but was worried they couldn’t hear me. I was afraid that I might get crushed during the rescue efforts. Thank you to the people who came and saved me”, the report added.

Many stories of the victims and survivors are making the headlines and garnering the netizens’ attention towards the horrible situation in the earthquake-struck region.

A toddler on Thursday was rescued after 79 hours from the rubble of a building that collapsed in Turkey’s southern city of Antakya. Footage from Turkey’s Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) also showed how rescue workers looked into a narrow opening in the debris and pulled out the two-year-old.

Turkey-Syria earthquake death toll passes 28,000 as rescue hopes dwindle

The death toll in Turkey and Syria from the quake has surpassed 28,000, and hope of finding many more survivors is fading despite some miraculous rescues.

German rescuers and the Austrian army paused search operations on Saturday, citing clashes between unnamed groups.

Security is expected to worsen as food supplies dwindle, one rescuer said.

And nearly 50 people have been arrested for looting, with several guns seized, local media reported.

Turkey’s president said he would use emergency powers to punish anyone breaking the law.

An Austrian army spokesperson said early on Saturday that clashes between unidentified groups in the Hatay province had left dozens of personnel from the Austrian Forces Disaster Relief Unit seeking shelter in a base camp with other international organisations.

7-year-old Syrian girl protects her brother’s head, stays for 17 hours under rubble

    [ad_1]

Damascus: The images and scenes continue of the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria at dawn on Monday, leaving thousands dead and injured.

In a video circulated on social media platforms, a Syrian girl appears under the rubble with her little brother, protecting her head for fear of him.

The video clip showed the little girl placing her hand over her brother’s head and embracing him to the chest, and talking to a paramedic, who asked her about her little brother Aya and the toys in an attempt to calm her down until they were pulled out.

The little girl said to the paramedic, “Uncle, “Pull me out and I will do whatever you want, I will be your servant!”

On Tuesday, the United Nations representative, Mohammad Safa, who posted the photo on Twitter, indicated that the duo had been under the rubble for 17 hours and got out safely.

“The 7-year-old girl who kept her hand on her little brother’s head to protect him while they were under the rubble for 17 hours has made it safely. I see no one sharing. If she were dead, everyone would share! Share positivity…” Safa tweeted.

It is noteworthy that the total number of confirmed deaths in southeastern Turkey and Syria has risen to more than 6,000 as a result of the earthquake, which is the strongest in the region in nearly a century.
The toll continues to rise, as a very large number of people are still under the rubble of the collapsed buildings.

While the World Health Organization expected that the final outcome would be much greater than the announced non-final numbers.

Third powerful earthquake of 6.0 magnitude hits Turkey in 24 hours

    [ad_1]

Ankara: Three earthquakes rocked Turkey on Monday as the country is still assessing the number of casualties and the damage.

The third earthquake of magnitude 6.0 on the Richter scale hit Goksun, Turkey on Monday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

Goksun is a town and district of Kahramanmaras Province in Turkey’s Mediterranean region.

The earthquake occurred at 3 pm local time and hit 5 km North East (NE) of Goksun, Turkey on Monday at a depth of 10 km, USGS stated.

The earthquake’s epicenter was located at 38.061°N and 36.537°E, respectively.

The recent earthquake is the third to hit Turkey on Monday.

Earlier, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey just hours after a massive earthquake of magnitude 7.8 on the Richter scale hit 26 km East of Turkey’s Nurdagi on Monday.

According to CNN, the deadly 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit southern Turkey in the early hours of Monday has claimed more than 500 lives in nearby regions as well as Syria.

At least 284 people have been killed and close to 2,300 injured in Turkey, the American broadcaster reported citing the country’s Vice President Fuat Oktay. According to Oktay, more than 1,700 buildings have been damaged across 10 Turkish cities.

In Syria, at least 237 people were killed and 639 injured, Syrian state-run news agency SANA reported, citing a Health Ministry official.

One of the largest earthquakes to hit Turkey in more than a century, it caused vibrations throughout the area, collapsed buildings, and forced people to flee into the streets.

Condolences poured in from across the world. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and condoled the loss of life in the massive quake.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Twitter that “search and rescue teams were immediately dispatched” to the areas hit by the quake.

Moreover, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also tweeted and expressed grief over the loss of lives in the tragic earthquake that jolted both Turkey and Syria.

“Deeply distressed by the loss of lives and damage in the earthquake in Turkiye,” he wrote on Twitter as he conveyed his support to his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu

16 Hours with George Santos: Dunkin’ Donuts, 27,000 Steps and a Scolding

    [ad_1]

    mag rodriguez santos lede override

    Wednesday, 4:52 p.m.

    The Floor

Santos stands up from his usual seat in the middle of the House chamber, three seats from the center corridor where the late-night McCarthy speakership vote almost descended into a brawl. This is his usual perch on the floor, where he frequently yawns, covers his mouth, scrolls on his phone, looks off into the distance, clearly bored. His usual floor comrades: Republicans Burchett, Andy Harris of Maryland, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, and Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, with whom he trades jokes and makes conversation. Nancy Pelosi stops by in a burnt orange pantsuit, exchanging pleasantries with Burchett, grasping his forearm and patting his shoulder, laughing but pointedly never so much as glancing at Santos.

Carrying a brown folder, Santos makes his way down to the well, looking confident. He’s going to give his first floor speech, a one-minute expression of support for Iran’s protests. The chamber had just voted, with 420 members in support, to pass a resolution commending the protesters.

He approaches the clerk, wearing a variation of his trademark ensemble — a charcoal gray pullover under a slate pinstripe jacket — and he starts waxing on Ronald Reagan and freedom, words tumbling over words in a rush to make time. He looks down at the lectern, exposing the thinning tuft of hair atop his head.

“I declare with every bullet and with every act of violence imposed by the Iranian government comes a call for us to condemn their actions,” he says, in a decorous monotone, “and urge the Biden administration to take far greater action than mere sanctions to address the countless murders and examples of senseless brutality.

    “I yield back my time.”

I catch Santos as he’s coming out of the Speaker’s Lobby, the colonnaded foyer just outside the House chamber. A veteran journalist is walking with him, deploying the time-honored reporter’s tactic of asking his question in a level, measured tone, so as not to come off as combative.

“Do you feel like at some point you need to answer questions, though, to sort of clear up—” the reporter says. “WHO’S KICKING ME?” Santos spits back at the roving scrum that had now mushroomed to a few reporters pushing for space, including me. (To be clear, nobody kicked him. I’d stepped on the back of his foot by accident amid the chaos. I quickly apologize, but he ignores me.)

Then more questions from the press, which aren’t just questions that journalists have, but questions that his constituents also have: “Have you been contacted by the Ethics Committee?”

“I’ve not,” George Santos says. (“No comment,” writes Tom Rust, the committee’s chief counsel, in a later email.)

I ask: “Have you been in touch with your legal team?”

“With who?” With your legal team.

“With my legal team? Do I have a legal team? I’m asking you, ‘Do I?’ You guys seem to know more than I do about myself!”
