ED grills Kavitha for nine hours, summoned again on March 16

New Delhi/Hyderabad: After nearly nine long hours of questioning, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) senior leader and MLC K Kavitha was finally let-off by the Enforcement Directorate on Saturday. However, her phone continues to remain in ED’s custody.

The daughter of Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) will appear before the ED next on March 16, sources said.

The questioning took place in the national capital after the central investigative agency summoned the BRS leader on Wednesday in connection with the Delhi liquor excise scam. A day earlier on Friday, she staged a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the women’s reservation bill.

According to sources, Kavitha was made to sit face-to-face with Hyderabad-based businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai, who was also arrested in the same case. Pillai is one of the alleged key persons in the entire scam involving payments of huge kickbacks and the formation of the biggest cartel of the ‘South Group’.

South Group, according to the investigation, comprises Telangana MLC Kavitha, Sarath Reddy (promoter of Aurobindo Group), Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy (MP, Ongole), his son Raghav Magunta, and others. The South Group was being represented by Pillai, Abhishek Boinpalli and Butchi Babu, the federal agency revealed.

Pillai along with his associates was reportedly coordinating with various persons to execute the political understanding between the South Group and a leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Pillai has been an accomplice and was involved in the kickbacks from the South Group and the recoupment of the same from the businesses in Delhi, ED investigation reveals.

Pillai is learnt to be a partner of 32.5 percent in Indo Spirits, which had got an L1 license. Indo Spirits is a partnership firm of Arun Pillai (32.5 percent), Prem Rahul (32.5 percent) and Indospirit Distribution Limited (35 percent), wherein Arun Pillai and Prem Rahul represented the benami investments of Kavitha and Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and his son Raghava Magunta.

Kavitha, who is a member of the Telangana Legislative Council, was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the same case in December last year.

  • Dubai firm announces paid menstrual, menopause leave; gets over 1K CVs in 24 hours

Dubai firm announces paid menstrual, menopause leave; gets over 1K CVs in 24 hours

    [ad_1]

The Dubai-based public relations agency, which announced a first-of-its-kind policy to support its female employees by offering paid leave for fertility-based treatments, menopause, and period-related leave, received more than 1,000 job applications in less than 24 hours.

On Tuesday, February 28, TishTash Communications, headquartered in Dubai, announced that its staff will receive paid leave for menstrual and menopause, in addition to a variety of other women’s health needs.

According to it, staff members can avail of up to six days of menopause (and menstrual) leave per year, which is not part of the employees’ personal or sick leave.

According to TishTash Communications, recent research shows menopausal symptoms are forcing women out of the workforce, with nearly a million women leaving their professions due to unmanageable symptoms.

The agency notes that more than 10 of its team members range in age from 35-45, and because of TishTash is an all-female workforce, the agency strives to create a culture that encourages open and safe conversations about both menopause and menstruation.

“I can’t reply fast enough,” said Natasha Hatherall, Founder and CEO of TishTash Communications told Khaleej Times.

The agency also received over 100 phone calls at the front desk asking if the company was hiring.

Natasha on Wednesday took to Linkedin and wrote,

“Less than 24 hours since we made this announcement at TishTash Communications and we have received over 1000 job applications and our office phone has not stopped ringing.”

“Some of the applications are so searingly honest from women describing how they are literally crippled with endometriosis at their desk but are working in companies where they fear calling in sick, especially with “women problems” for losing their jobs.”

“The need to work in a company where it is “ok” to be a woman and all that comes with that is massive and I thought I had insight before today, but the hundreds of applications and personal messages I’ve received across social media show me maybe we haven’t touched the half it it.”

“As ever, for us it is not just about creating headlines and driving awareness on topics close to our hearts, but it is about walking the walk and continuing to do so and this is what Polly Willams and I are committed to at TishTash.”

“We hope others may listen and take action to create change with us.”

Natasha has also received many notes praising the move on Linkedin.

VIDEO: New Tesla Model S is already a total loss after less than three hours

    [ad_1]

Admit it: you also secretly thought that this would be another message from a Tesla that drives itself a total loss because Autopilot has a genius idea. But no, in this case it’s the old-fashioned Honda rider’s fault again. A wrong-way driver forces the driver to swerve, giving himself a PIT maneuver.

It’s quite sour, because the driver picked up the Tesla Model S about three hours before. He could choose to spend over 1,300 euros to have the car delivered, but he chose to keep the money in his pocket and take a nice road trip. As far as we were concerned, the perfect choice, but fate had other plans. Check out the crash below.

Column | Many would already have the right to shorten their working hours, but few do

    [ad_1]

Money is the main reason why parents of young children rarely work part-time, but it is not the only reason.

in Britain a four-day work week was tried, and it yielded good results. Productivity increased, and employees feel better than before.

In Finland, the news was received as expected: employers’ representatives were shocked, left-wing politicians praised. In the end, everyone said that it wouldn’t work like this for us, but maybe we could try something.

Bridge times I read the reactions of politicians and experts more closely than usual, because I myself work a four-day work week. Reducing working hours is a legal right of parents until the child finishes second grade.

However, I am obviously lucky that my job allows me to do this. Few parents seize the opportunity, even though a four-day week could improve the well-being of those living in their peak years.

Of those who exercise their right, the overwhelming majority are women. The current government brought about a family leave reform, but it did nothing for care leavers.

From now on, mothers of children under the age of three will rather take a leave of absence from work altogether than return to work and work shorter working hours.

Supporters of the change push for a four-day week for people other than parents of small children and with full pay.

Monetary however, it is not the only reason why the opportunity is not being used now. Of course, that is an important reason.

Coil in 2021, paid an average of 189.57 euros per month for parents of children under the age of three, and an average of 99.68 euros per month for parents of first- and second-graders. Everyone can calculate how much their own salary would decrease due to shorter working hours and how Kela’s support would relate to that.

Many employers are not more flexible than they have to be.

Made by Kela years ago statement according to this, the users of the support are more educated than average and have better incomes.

Indeed, they often wrestle with problems other than money. I know mothers who do their expert work at night, because the employer requires 100% work input with 80% working time and salary. Many have the experience that career and salary development freezes due to reduced working hours.

With this attitude in many workplaces, it’s no surprise that employers’ representatives immediately slammed the UK results. Many employers are not ready to be more flexible than is legally required.

In this regard, too, we can envy Sweden, where part-time work for both parents is the norm rather than the exception in workplaces.

Talking about the incident the mother of the injured child said, “My child was playing along with two other kids while 4-5 dogs attacked them. Earlier we had complained to the municipal authorities and they had come to catch the dogs but they were immediately released. The people here keep feeding these dogs despite our objections. We demand that these dogs should be taken away by the municipal authorities as it is creating problems and attacking people.”

According to LB Nagar DCP, Sai Sri, “We do not have any information regarding such an incident. However, we will send our team and the inquiry will be done.”

Adani Requests SEBI to Reduce Trading Hours to 15 mins

    [ad_1]

All stocks belonging to the Adani group — including Adani Enterprises (ADANIENT), Adani Ports (ADANIPORTS), Adani Power (ADANIPOWER), Adani Transmission (ADANITRANS) and Ambuja Cements (AMBUJACEM) — suffered steep losses on Wednesday, in more pain for investors amid a crisis at the embattled conglomerate.

In order to restore confidence among investors, Adani Group is taking several measures. One such measure was repaying the loans. Adani group firm Adani Ports & SEZ paid Rs 1,500 crore loan and promised to repay more as the group makes a comeback strategy after a sellout triggered by a damning report by US-based Hindenburg Research.

Reportedly, in another measure to stop the further stock price fall, Gautam Adani has requested the market regulator, SEBI (Security Exchange Board of India) to reduce the trading time.

In his letter to SEBI, Gautam Adani requested SEBI to keep the trade timing for 15 mins only, 9:15 to 9:30. Citing a report by HiddenBurg, Gautam Adani said trading is consuming a lot of time of youth which can be utilised in a better way.

It’s a zero sum game, someone’s loss is someone’s gain, giving so much time to it is not worth. 15 mins is enough for that” said Gautam Adani.

  • Income Tax surveys at BBC offices end after over 58 hours

Income Tax surveys at BBC offices end after over 58 hours

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Income Tax department’s marathon “surveys” at BBC’s offices ended on Thursday, after clocking over 58 hours in total, as officials prepared an inventory of financial data from select staffers and collected digital and paper data.

The operation that began at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) offices in Delhi and Mumbai around 11:30 am on Tuesday has ended in Mumbai and will be wound up at Delhi by tonight, sources said late on Thursday.

Tax authorities have made an inventory of the available stock, recorded the statement of some staffers and have impounded some documents as part of the survey action that continued for three days clocking about 57-58 hours, officials told PTI.

The survey was carried out to investigate issues related to international taxation and transfer pricing of BBC subsidiary companies, they had said.

The I-T teams, it is understood, sought answers on financial transactions, the company structure and other details about the news company, and copied data from electronic gadgets as part of their task of collecting the evidence.

Opposition parties have denounced the I-T department action against the London-headquartered public broadcaster, terming it “political vendetta”.

On Tuesday, the ruling BJP had accused the BBC of “venomous reporting” while the Opposition had questioned the timing of the action that came weeks after the broadcaster aired a two-part documentary “India: The Modi Question” on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the 2002 Gujarat riots.

While there has been no official statement from the Income Tax department on the action, the BBC has said it was cooperating with the authorities.

A BBC staffer in Delhi said they were broadcasting their news like usual and the company has informed them that it is cooperating with the authorities.

The Supreme Court last week dismissed a plea seeking the imposition of a complete ban on the BBC in India in the wake of the controversial documentary, terming the petition “entirely misconceived” and “absolutely meritless”.

Another set of petitions challenging the government’s decision to block the documentary’s access on social media platforms will be heard in April.

On January 21, the government had issued directions to block multiple YouTube videos and Twitter posts sharing links to the documentary.
