Rains lash sunburnt Hyderabad; intense spells in next few hours

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: After the India Meteorological Department Hyderabad’s (IMD-H) predictions of light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday, parts of the city found much-needed respite from the heat as rains lashed scattered areas post 2 pm.

An intense rainband was observed over the areas of Charminar, Bahadurpura, and Zoo Park surroundings that spread towards the Rajendra Nagar area.

The Telangana State Development Planning Society has predicted moderate thundershowers at isolated places across the city that might continue until Thursday.

Weather experts predict an incoming cloud band from the Malkajgiri while moderate to heavy showers are expected to hit over Kapra, Uppal, and LB Nagar areas in the upcoming hours.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the rains are the impact of Cyclone Mocha forming over the Bay of Bengal, which may intensify into a very severe storm by Friday.

With the expected formation of a Cyclonic Storm, the low-level winds over the state are expected to change from present easterly to dry northerly and gradually rise the temperature by 3 degrees to 5 degrees Celcius while it may cross 40 degrees Celcius over many districts of the Telangana in next few days.

  • G-20: Men And Machinery Working For Maximum Hours To Clean Dal Lake

G-20: Men And Machinery Working For Maximum Hours To Clean Dal Lake

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Intensifying the ongoing cleaning of Dal Lake in Srinagar ahead of the mega event of G-20, the J&K Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) has placed men and machinery to work for maximum hours to ensure the cleaning of the water body on a fast-track basis, an official said on Tuesday.

LCMA Vice Chairman, Bashir Ahmad Bhat said that the cleaning of the Dal Lake is an ongoing process, but ahead of the G-20 event, they have switched the cleaning process on a fast-track basis.

“In view of the G-20 summit event, men and machinery have been pressed into work for maximum hours, and these days it starts from around 7 am to 9 pm on a daily basis,” he said.

He said they are cleaning the entire Dal and are maintaining the area of around 6.5 sq km, which they have cleaned up over the past two years so that there is no regrowth.

Bhat said there are some areas across the shoreline where they cannot take up cleaning with the help of machines, but they are deploying labor for manual cleaning in those areas alongside the work of dredging on the shorelines.

Pertinently, in order to add to the beauty of the lake and to attract more tourists, J&K LCMA in March this year installed an aerator/fountain inside the Dal Lake which shoots water up to 80 meters high.

According to the LCMA officials, the clusters of the aerators have been pre-programmed with different patterns of formations viz high jet, mist formation, and trumpet formation with changing colors which provides breath-taking and scintillating visuals.

As the G20—tourism summit is scheduled to be held at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) on the banks of Dal Lake here from May 22 to 24 this year, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir—Srinagar is witnessing a major makeover—(KNO)

Manipur relaxes curfew in Churachandpur for few hours to allow people buy essentials

    [ad_1]

Imphal: The total curfew that prohibited the movement of any person outside their homes will be relaxed for three hours in violence-hit Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Sunday morning to allow the people to buy essential items such as medicines and food, according to a notification.

The curfew imposed under section 144 of the CrPC will be relaxed from 7 am to 10 am, it said.

It was also relaxed on Saturday for two hours from 3 pm to 5 pm.

    MS Education Academy

“With the law and order situation improving in Churachandpur district and after talks were held between the state government and various stakeholders, I’m pleased to share that the curfew will be partially relaxed as per the details shared below (sic),” Chief Minister N Biren Singh tweeted on Saturday night, sharing a copy of the notification.

The curfew was imposed on May 3 after violent clashes broke out between tribals and members of the majority Meitei community, which has so far displaced thousands of people and killed at least 54.

The notification issued by Churachandpur district magistrate Sharath Chandra Arroju said, “Subsequent relaxations shall be reviewed and notified based on assessment of the prevailing law and order situation.”

The clashes broke out after a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised in the ten hill districts of the state to protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

Meiteis account for about 53 per cent of Manipur’s population and live mostly in the Imphal valley. Tribals — Nagas and Kukis — constitute another 40 percent of the population and live mostly in the hill districts.

  • Mutton dealers suffer huge losses after livestock trucks stopped for over 48 hours on Srinagar-Jammu highway

Mutton dealers suffer huge losses after livestock trucks stopped for over 48 hours on Srinagar-Jammu highway

    [ad_1]

Srinagar, May 3: Mutton dealers from Kashmir Valley suffered huge losses after traffic police stopped trucks carrying livestock towards Valley on the Srinagar-Jammu highway for more than 48 hours.

All Kashmir Wholesale Mutton Dealers Association said that stopping trucks carrying livestock was ‘unwarranted’ and they are shocked over the callous attitude of the traffic police for not responding to their distress calls.

“We called SSP Traffic National Highway. There was no response, even the SSP Traffic didn’t bother to respond to our text messages,” All Kashmir Wholesale Mutton Dealers Association told the news agency Kashmir News Trust adding that the control room officials also didn’t listen to them.

The Association said that at least 48 trucks laden with livestock were stopped near Udhampur on Dhor Road. “Despite repeated requests, drivers were not allowed to move ahead.”

The Association added that every truck suffered a mortality loss of 2 to 3 sheep. “The estimated loss due to ‘unnecessary’ stoppage of trucks is over Rs 25 lakh. After forcing to stop for over 48 hours, these trucks were allowed to move towards Valley at 5 PM on Tuesday.”

Notably, the Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Mr Arun Kumar Mehta had recently directed authorities to ensure hassle-free movement of trucks on the national highway. He had asked authorities not to stop any truck on the highway.

“I was supposed to supply meat to several parties but failed to do so, as the supply didn’t reach in time,” said Mehrajuddin Ganaie, one of the members of All Kashmir Wholesale Mutton Dealers Association.

He said mutton dealers have been continuously facing huge losses as this business has become a source of losses instead of profit due to the callous attitude of the authorities.

SSP Traffic didn’t respond to the phone call, however, one of the traffic officials said that trucks were halted due to one-way traffic near the Nashri area as it is prone to landslides. “If we allow two-way traffic near Nashiri, there will be a traffic jam and it may pose a risk to lives,” he said.
