GMC Srinagar Hosts Qualitative Methodology Workshop In Biomedical Research

SRINAGAR: A two-day workshop was conducted by the Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College Srinagar on qualitative methodology in biomedical research from 9th to 10th March 2023 at GMC Srinagar which was inaugurated by Principal GMC Srinagar Prof. Masood Tanvir. The guest faculty included Dr. Archisman Mohapatra Executive Director of GRID Council, New Delhi, and Dr. Rajmohan Panda, Additional Professor, Public Health Foundation of India, New Delhi.
The topics which were dealt with during the workshop included qualitative research approaches, tools of data collection, analysis, in-depth interviews, focus group discussion, the difference between quantitative and qualitative research, mock exercises, and the way forward.
Principal GMC Srinagar on the Valedictory expressed his gratitude to the visiting faculty and emphasized adopting qualitative research wherever feasible in biomedical research.
Dr. S. Muhammad Salim Khan HOD Community Medicine GMC Srinagar and organizing chairman of the workshop said that after conducting fifteen three-day workshops on quantitative research, we found it imperative to sensitize doctors towards qualitative research and mixed-method approach towards the health and disease scenario in the community.
The certificates of participation and mementos were distributed during the Valedictory function chaired by Principal GMC Srinagar.

GCE Srinagar Hosts Two Day National Conference On Implementing NEP-2020

SRINAGAR: Govt. College of Education, Institute of Advanced Studies Srinagar organized a two-day national conference on the Implementation of NEP-2020 in Higher Education Institutions under the initiative of India’s Presidency of G20.
The two-day national conference on the National Education Policy 2020 kicked off with an inaugural session on March 1st. The event began with Dr Seema Naz, Principal of the host institution, welcoming all the guests. In her address, she highlighted the achievements of the institution in the field of teacher education and its recent Grade A accreditation for the third consecutive time under the 2023 NAAC accreditation.
Fazl Illahi, the Coordinator of the conference, then read the backdrop of the conference, where he deliberated on the major reforms proposed in the policy and suggested a roadmap for teacher education institutions. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Manisha Priyam from the Department of Education Policy, Ministry of Education, NIEPA. In her address, she explored the issue of multidisciplinarity in terms of languages and discussed the ‘new precepts in NEP-2020.’
Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane, Pro Vice Chancellor, Savitribhai Phule University, Pune, in his special address, highlighted the importance of engaging the learner, the need for better teacher preparation for the new role, creation of research ecosystems, and the internationalization of higher education. Finally, Dr. Nazir Ahmad Bhat initiated the vote of thanks, and the session was moderated in chaste Urdu language by Prof. Abdul Gani Kumar.
The conference aimed to discuss the ground realities, institutional preparedness, curriculum, manpower, institutional goals, research, pedagogy, assessment, infrastructure, courses offered, and ICT integration, among other things. The panel discussions that followed brought together several eminent academics who shared their insights on the operationalization of the National Education Policy 2020.
The panel discussion on the theme ‘NEP-2020, Making It Happen’ was held on the second day of the conference, and several renowned professors and experts in higher education participated in the discussion. The discussion revolved around the different aspects of NEP-2020, including ground realities, institutional preparedness, curriculum, manpower, research, pedagogy, assessment, infrastructure, courses offered, and ICT integration. The panelists also discussed the challenges and issues in implementing NEP-2020 and how institutional development plans (IDPs) can help customize the needs of higher education institutions for the successful implementation of NEP-2020.
During the panel discussion, Prof. Yasmeen Ashai, Director of Colleges at the Higher Education Department, emphasized the importance of considering ground realities, institutional preparedness, curriculum, manpower, institutional goals, research, pedagogy, assessment, infrastructure, courses offered, and ICT integration when implementing NEP-2020. She also highlighted the role of the Institutional Development Plan (IDP) in customizing the needs of higher education institutions.
Other experts, including Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane, Prof. Farooq Masoodi, Prof. Mahmood Ahmad Khan, Dr. K. Ratnabali, and Dr. Geetanjali Kale, spoke about various aspects of implementing NEP-2020, such as the provision of the credit system, learning activities, teaching to research, institutional collaboration, sustainability, collaboration with industry, recruitment of teachers, assessment, student diversity, innovation, and academia-industry linkages.

In the valedictory session, Conference Coordinator Mr. Fazl Illahi presented a detailed report of the two-day conference. Prof. Yasmeen Ashai highlighted the need for all higher education institutions to have vibrant centers for career counseling and research. She also discussed the initiatives taken up by the Department of Higher Education in Jammu and Kashmir regarding the implementation of NEP-2020.
The conference provided a platform for experts to discuss the various aspects of implementing NEP-2020 and highlighted the importance of considering ground realities, institutional preparedness, and collaboration with the industry for successful implementation.
The conference concluded with a valedictory session, where the conference coordinator presented a detailed report of the event, and the Director Colleges, Higher Education Department, Jammu and Kashmir emphasized the need for vibrant centers of career counseling and research in all higher education institutions.

In the video ‘Bigg Boss 16’ contestants Sajid Khan, Abdu Rozik, Nimrit, Shiv Thakre, MC Stan, Shalin Bhanot, Archana Gautam and others were seen singing the Bigg Boss anthem.
Apart from them, Farah’s close friend Sania Mirza, Chunky Panday, Arbaaz Khan and ‘Bigg Boss 8’ winner Gautam Gulati marked their presence at the party.
Soon after Farah dropped the video, fans flooded the comment section with red hearts and fire emoticons. “One And Only MANDALI Wala Season,” a fan commented.
Another fan wrote, “Waiting for the next season of Bigg Boss begins”
Rapper MC Stan emerged as the winner of the Bigg Boss 16 season, beating Shiv Thakare in the finale.
MC Stan’s journey inside the Bigg Boss house has been a remarkable one! His witty one-liners and bold demeanour helped him rule hearts in a very short period of time.

His bond with Shiv Thakare, Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia, Sumbul Touqeer, Sajid Khan, and Abdu Rozik was also loved by many.
Stan won the support of many rappers including Raftaar, Divine, Badshah, Ikka, Emiway Bantai, Karan Aujla, Seedhe Maut, Munawar and many others. They even sent video messages to Stan during the finale episode.
Shiv Thakare emerged as the runner’s up and Priyanka secured the third position in the show.
Like all other seasons ‘Bigg Boss 16’ also received a good response from the audience.

Hrithik Roshan hosts K-Pop star Jackson Wang at home

Mumbai: Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan and his family turned out to be the perfect host to K-pop star Jackson Wang, who visited the actor’s home.
Wang took to Instagram, where he shared a string of photographs to sum up his visit to India as he performed at the Lollapalooza global music festival.
Jackson Wang wrote the caption: “#MAGICMAN in Lollapalooza India 2023. Always wanted to visit. Finally… Such an amazing experience with all of you since the moment at the airport to seeing you all to the show to new friends to the experience of the culture. Such an honor. Very blessed. I hope I get to come back more often. @lollaindia.”
He shared a picture with Hrithik, actor’s parents Rakesh and Pinkie Roshan photographed at their home.
He also posted a clip showing Wang taking a chariot ride on the streets of Mumbai, spending some time at the sea, visiting a local market and a picture of the Gateway of India.
On the Bollywood front, Hrithik will now be seen in ‘Fighter’, alongside Deepika Padukone.

Biden hosts Democrats at White House as standoff over debt ceiling looms

The stalemate over the nation’s debt ceiling was a prime example of how the shift in congressional power could shape the rest of Biden’s term, as Republican lawmakers push for spending cuts before agreeing to Democrats’ requests to increase the debt limit.
At the start of the meeting, Biden said: “I have no intention of letting the Republicans wreck our economy, nor does anybody around this table.” He is expected to meet with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to discuss the standoff, though White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Tuesday said she had no updates about timing for when.
Later, Schumer said the White House and Democratic leaders were on the “same page” regarding the debt ceiling. White House officials have continued to stress that Congress must pass a clean limit increase, noting that lawmakers raised the debt ceiling three times under former President Donald Trump without demanding spending cuts.
“One of the things we want to do on the debt ceiling is say to Republicans, show us your plan,” Schumer said. “Do they want to cut Social Security? Do they want to cut Medicare? Do they want to cut veterans benefits? Do they want to cut police? Do they want to cut food for needy kids? What’s your plan? We don’t know if they can even put one together.”
Jeffries described the meeting as “wonderful,” adding that the group discussed jobs, infrastructure and the administration’s accomplishments. Schumer also said the group agreed to lean into implementation of the bills they’ve passed.
“One of the things we’re going to work together on, the president, the House, the Senate, is making sure that implementation of all the good things that we did in the last two years gets to the people quickly, in a real way, and gets to the right people — the working families of America,” Schumer said.
Schumer and Jeffries were joined by House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.)
The Democratic leaders retreated back into the White House without taking questions on the president’s handling of classified documents, a storyline that has dominated the new year for Biden.

The White House on Tuesday evening also hosted new members of Congress for a reception in the East Room.

Unbeaten Indian women’s hockey team holds hosts South Africa 2-2

Cape Town: The Indian women’s hockey team remained unbeaten on their South Africa tour thus far as they registered a 2-2 draw against the hosts in its fourth match against them, here on Sunday.
This was India’s last match against the South African side before they take on World No.1 Netherlands on January 23.
It was Vaishnavi Vithal Palkhe, playing her debut tour for the senior side, who starred for the team, scoring two crucial goals that helped them hold the home team to a draw.
South Africa made a strong start on Sunday, after a series of losses against India. The home team had lost 1-5, 0-7, and 0-4 to India thus far. Determined to end the matches against India on a good note, South Africa was the first to make a breakthrough when they capitalized on an Indian infringement.
The penalty stroke awarded to them was utilized well with Quanita Bobbs beating young goalie Bichu Devi Kharibam to convert the goal in the 8th minute.
India was able to equalize only in the 29th minute when a good PC variation helped them score a goal. It was Vaishnavi who did well to remain calm and pump the ball into the post.
South Africa managed to snatch the lead again when Tarryn Lombard struck a field goal in the 35th minute. The next few minutes remained tense with both teams playing on par with each other.
Vaishnavi finally brought some respite when she converted from a PC in the 51st minute. India did well to tighten their defense in the dying minutes of the match to ensure they walked away with a draw.
