Mumbai: Janata Dal (U) President and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will arrive in Mumbai on Thursday morning as part of his Opposition unity efforts, and hold meetings with top Maharashtra leaders, an official said here on Tuesday.

Nitish Kumar will meet Shiv Sena (UBT) President Uddhav Thackeray over lunch at ‘Matoshri’ in Bandra, before meeting Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar over tea at the latter’s ‘Silver Oaks’ home in south Mumbai.

The JD(U) supremo shall be accompanied by Bihar Legislative Council Chairman Deveshchandra Thakur, and Cooperation Minister Sanjaykumar Jha for the meetings with the Maharashtra leaders, said JD(U) National Secretary, Kapil Patil.

Last fortnight, Thakur had met both Pawar and Thackeray ahead of Nitish Kumar’s plans to visit Maharashtra on May 11.

Continuing his efforts to forge a national front comprising all non-BJP forces, Nitish Kumar has so far met Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Odish CM Navin Patnaik and also former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav, said Patil.

The JD(U)’s Maharashtra unit has made elaborate arrangements to welcome Nitish Kumar with thousands of workers set to gather at Bandra and other places.

“Nitish Kumar enjoys a clean image as a good administrator who has brought about a sea-change in Bihar. The women are safe, the youth are confident, and now the nation awaits him,” Patil added.

  • Jr NTR to host THIS show

Jr NTR to host THIS show

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Imagine being captivated by someone’s oratory abilities as they speak to a crowd with such charisma and passion that you can’t help but pay attention to every word. That is the magnetic energy that Jr. NTR, one of the few Tollywood movie heroes with such qualities, brings to the table. And now he might be making his way back to television.

NTR’s television debut with Bigg Boss Telugu’s first season was a huge success, leaving viewers wanting more. While he did not return for the subsequent seasons, he did make a comeback in 2021 with the critically acclaimed show Evaru Meelo Koteeshwarulu. Despite its popularity, NTR’s hectic schedule made it difficult for him to continue, leaving fans disappointed.

However, rumours are circulating that ETV, a prominent channel, has approached NTR with an exciting new proposition: a large conversation show on their OTT platform, ETV Win. So far, this platform has seen the release of a few original films and TV episodes, but they have yet to gain widespread popularity. ETV hopes to increase their subscriber base and make a splash in the industry by bringing on the magnetic presence of Jr. NTR.

    MS Education Academy

NTR and the ETV organisation have a long history of collaboration. Ramoji Rao, the owner of ETV, actually produced NTR’s debut film, Ninnu Choodalani. With such a strong bond between them, NTR is likely to accept this exciting new opportunity.

However, with such a hectic schedule, it is unclear how NTR will fit this show into his already packed schedule. We’ll have to wait for a formal confirmation to find out if this exciting collaboration will take place. Meanwhile, the prospect of Jr. NTR enthralling audiences with his commanding presence and oratory skills is simply thrilling.

  • A look back at the career of TV host Jerry Springer – video obituary

    [ad_1]

Jerry Springer, the captivating TV host famed for his eponymous and provocative talkshow The Jerry Springer Show, has died aged 79. Springer’s show entertained but also scandalised audiences with its notorious on-air fights, swearing and infidelity revelations. After almost three decades hosting The Jerry Springer Show, he hosted America’s Got Talent and Judge Jerry, a spinoff of the popular Judge Judy show. Jene Galvin, a friend of Springer’s and spokesperson for the family, said he was ‘irreplaceable’. ‘Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street,’ Galvin said.

Born in London in 1944, Springer’s multifaceted career included a period as an advisor to Robert F Kennedy and a brief tenure as the mayor of Cincinnati

Jerry Springer, influential US talkshow host, dies aged 79

    [ad_1]

The talkshow host Jerry Springer, a former mayor of Cincinnati whose work was vastly influential in daytime TV worldwide, has died. He was 79.

Springer’s family said he died “peacefully” on Thursday at home in Chicago.

In a statement, the family said: “Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word.

“He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humor will live on.”

Springer was best known for his 27-year, near-4,000-episode run as host of his eponymous talkshow, which featured guests who purportedly engaged in controversial, excessive and often overtly sexual behavior.

Episode titles that could have been ripped from tabloid headlines included I Slept with 251 Men in 10 Hours!, I’m a Breeder for the Klan and I Married a Horse.

Guests often broke into chair-wielding brawls or fretted while Springer read paternity test results on air.

The show often generated negative headlines. A 15-year-old boy in Florida charged with sexual battery of his half-sister, aged eight, told detectives he learned what incest was from Springer. A woman in a segment entitled Secret Mistresses Confronted was found dead within hours of broadcast.

Despite it all, in 1998, seven years into its run, the show briefly enjoyed stronger ratings than Oprah Winfrey’s more mainstream daytime offering.

It catapulted Springer to fame, including the 1998 Hollywood comedy Ringmaster, loosely based on his life, and a cameo in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me in 1999, the same year he signed a contract worth $30m. The show also inspired a musical, Jerry Springer: the Opera, which logged more than 600 performances in London from 2003 to 2005.

On Thursday, the journalist and Twitter influencer Yashar Ali said the weekday daytime slot Springer’s show held at the height of its popularity helped it make an indelible impression on American millennials.

“Jerry Springer wasn’t just a host,” Ali wrote on Twitter. “He was also the babysitter for many millennials who were home sick from school.”

KSI, a YouTube celebrity, said: “RIP Jerry Springer. You made my off days at school so much more entertaining.”

The show was taken off the air in 2018, years after its audience began to dwindle. Springer later hosted a courtroom show that was canceled after three seasons. From 2007 to 2008, he hosted America’s Got Talent.

Some credited his success with inspiring other critically panned ratings magnets including Real Housewives and 90-Day Fiance.

In November last year, Springer said he was “so sorry” for the cultural impact his show had at the turn of the century.

“I just apologize,” he told David Yontef, host of the Behind the Velvet Rope podcast. “What have I done? I’ve ruined the culture. I just hope hell isn’t that hot because I burn real easy. I’m very light-complected.”

Yet he would also bristle when his work was dismissed as “trash”.

“It’s basically elitist,” Springer said. “You have all these celebrities [coming on other shows to] … talk about who they slept with, what drugs they’ve been on, what misbehavior they had, and we can’t buy enough tickets to their shows. We can’t buy enough of their albums. We go to see their movies. We buy their books.

    “We think they’re god-like.”

Jerry Springer defends his talk show against its ‘elitist’ critics – video

Gerald Norman Springer was born in London during the second world war after his family fled Nazi Germany. He was four when his family moved to New York.

In 1965, he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Tulane University in New Orleans. He received a law degree from Northwestern University in Illinois three years later, and advised the presidential campaign of Robert F Kennedy before being elected to the Cincinnati city council in 1971.

He resigned his seat in 1974, after admitting soliciting a sex worker. Styling himself as a liberal, Springer successfully ran for re-election to the council after apologizing and addressing the scandal head-on in his advertising, and the panel picked him to serve a year as Cincinnati’s mayor, beginning in 1977.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, while apparently resorting to a double entendre referencing both his sex worker solicitation and his demoralizing resignation, Springer said of his elevation to mayor: “When I think of being flat on my back three years ago, having this happen is almost unbelievable. This is the best feeling I’ve ever had in my political life.”

In 1982, Springer ran unsuccessfully for governor of Ohio. In one campaign ad he said: “Nine years ago I spent time with a woman I shouldn’t have. And I paid her with a check. I wish I hadn’t done that. And the truth is, I wish no one would ever know. But in the rough world of politics, opponents are not about to let personal embarrassments lay to rest.

“… The next governor is going to have to take some heavy risks and face some hard truths. I’m prepared to do that. This commercial should be proof. I’m not afraid, even of the truth, and even if it hurts.”

On Thursday, the political commentator David Axelrod wrote on Twitter that Springer was “funny, self-effacing, incisive” during his political career.

Henry Gomez of NBC News added that as recently as the early 2000s, Springer was the Democratic party’s best hope of securing statewide office in conservative Ohio.

Springer left politics to become a news anchor and commentator at the Cincinnati television station WLWT, setting the stage for his talkshow career.

WLWT reported on Thursday that plans for funeral services and a memorial gathering were still being formed. His family asked the public to consider honoring him by donating to “a worthy advocacy organization” or simply being kind to someone.

“As he always said [at the end of his shows], ‘Take care of yourself – and each other’,” WLWT added.

Springer’s family said he died from pancreatic cancer.

Fox News parts ways with controversial host Tucker Carlson

    [ad_1]

Fox News has announced the departure of its influential host, Tucker Carlson, after months of speculation regarding the controversial figure’s future at the conservative news network. The announcement came as a surprise to many, given Carlson’s popularity and influence within conservative circles.

According to a statement released by Fox News on Sunday, the network and Carlson have “mutually agreed” to part ways, with the host’s final show set to air on June 30. While the reasons behind the decision have not been explicitly stated, Carlson’s tenure at Fox News has been marred by a number of controversies, including allegations of racist and sexist comments, as well as criticism of his coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2020 presidential election.

The decision to part ways with Carlson is seen as a significant move for Fox News, which has been grappling with declining ratings and internal strife in recent months. The network has also faced scrutiny over its coverage of the January 6 Capitol riots, which many critics have accused of fomenting violence and promoting conspiracy theories.

Despite Carlson’s departure, he remains a polarizing figure in the world of conservative media. Some have speculated that he may seek to launch his own media platform or be courted by rival conservative outlets.

Carlson has not yet commented on his departure, leaving many to wonder what lies ahead for the controversial host. Regardless of what the future holds for Carlson, his departure from Fox News marks the end of an era for the conservative news network.

“At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network. It is clear that there are some larger issues at play,” he wrote.

Shortly after Lemon’s announcement, CNN characterized the situation as the company having “parted ways” with the host.

“Don will forever be a part of the CNN family, and we thank him for his contributions,” the company tweeted. “We wish him well and will be cheering him on in his future endeavors.”

CNN then pushed back on the host’s statement, calling his claims “inaccurate.” Instead of being fired without warning, the company tweeted that Lemon was “offered an opportunity to meet with management but instead released a statement on Twitter.”

The high-profile departure comes just after Fox News announced that host Tucker Carlson was leaving the outlet. It’s a major shift for both companies, as they lose two of the most popular hosts on cable television.

Hyderabad city police host ‘HACK Summit 2023’ for cybersecurity

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: City Police and Hyderabad City Security Council (HCSC) conducted the Hyderabad Annual Cybersecurity Knowledge (HACK) Summit 2023 which brought together renowned speakers and experts to discuss the pressing issue of cybersecurity at Hotel Taj Deccan on Wednesday.

Home Minister Mahmood Ali, Guest of Honour Dr BV Mohan Reddy, founder and executive of Cyient and special guest Sanjay Sahay, former IPS, founder and director of TechConPro Pvt Ltd, Pro Public, and Indian Badminton Champion Jwala Gutta exchanged their ideas at the summit.

Sharing the objectives and aspirations of the summit, the secretary general of HCSC, Chaitanya Gorrepati said, “HACK aims to empower businesses and citizens to tackle cybersecurity challenges by bringing together academics, security experts, businesspeople, and concerned citizens.”

    MS Education Academy

“By fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, we hope to make Hyderabad the Cybersecurity capital of India,” Chaitanya added.

Mahmood Ali emphasized the importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital world.

“Under the visionary leadership of CM K Chandra Shekar Rao and minister KT Rama Rao, Hyderabad has become a global leader. Cybersecurity is essential, and our proactive police force works closely with industry and business to combat cybercrime,” said Mahmood Ali.

The Home Minister further highlighted the government’s focus on inclusivity, social security, and cybersecurity awareness by saying, “We hope this summit bolsters our digital infrastructure’s security. Women and Stree programs initiated by the police have positively impacted many lives, and our citizen-centric policing enhances visibility and effectiveness.”

Continuing the conversation, HCSC chairman and Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand, IPS, underscored the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing among stakeholders.

“We aim to make HACK an annual event, bringing city police and businesses together on a single platform to address critical cybersecurity issues. This collaboration is essential for breaking down silos and finding solutions, as demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic,” he remarked.

CV Anand also provided an overview of the various forums focusing on women, cyber, traffic, anti-narcotics, physical security, and CSR mobilization, mentioning initiatives like WeCop, Farishtey, and Stree counselling centres.

Shared insights into the rapidly evolving cybercrime landscape and stressed the need for continuous awareness efforts and adaptations by law enforcement agencies, the police commissioner said that the HCSC will very soon organise similar summits on women’s safety, anti-narcotics, and traffic.

Special Guest Sanjay Sahay urged stakeholders, including students, police, industry, and citizens, to navigate the digital crossroads confidently and develop a cybersecurity attitude.

He pointed out the challenges faced by police unfamiliarity with digital forensics and the growing prevalence of cybercrime in various industries.

Sahay ended with a thought-provoking statement, “With 97% of Fortune 500 companies hacked and the remaining unaware, data is the new oil, AI is the new electricity, and hacking is the new normal.”

Guest of Honour Padma Dr BV Mohan Reddy provided insights into India’s digital transformation, stressing the need for increased awareness, smarter tactics, and collaboration among stakeholders to create a secure digital environment.

“India is the world’s fastest transforming digital society, with 74 billion transactions last year and the lowest data consumption expense, reduced by 36x. Real-time data and quantum computing power democratize technology, increasing accessibility even in rural areas,” Dr Reddy said.

However, he also warned that this connected world comes with risks as accessing information becomes easier.

“Technology does not differentiate between good and bad users, exposing individuals, businesses, and law enforcement agencies to threats. Individuals face identity theft and financial loss, while businesses allocate budgets for cyber risk assessment and monitoring,” said the doctor.

To address these challenges, Dr Reddy suggested a three-pronged approach:

    • Increase awareness levels and become cyber warriors, as there is no escape from technology.
    • Outsmart hackers by continuously adapting and learning.
    • Foster collaboration and cooperation among stakeholders to create a secure digital environment.

During the summit, the Cyber Squad was launched, and Cyber Squad jackets were presented to several students from various schools, including Delhi Public School, Nasr School, Glendale International School, Hyderabad Public School, and Kalpa School.

These students will be ambassadors of cybersecurity awareness in their respective schools and will help educate their peers on the importance of staying safe in the digital world.

The opening session was followed by an interesting interaction with Jwala Gutta on how to tackle cyberbullying.

Overall, the HACK Summit 2023 was a resounding success, fostering dialogue and collaboration among key stakeholders in the field of cybersecurity.

With its emphasis on raising awareness, promoting education, and sharing best practices, the event has laid the groundwork for Hyderabad to become the cybersecurity capital of India.

In a symbolic conclusion to the HACK Summit 2023, dignitaries unveiled the HACK 2023 logo, released the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) white paper, and showcased Cyber Security videos for citizen awareness.
