Gonda: Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is facing sexual harassment allegations and protest by a section of top wrestlers, Sunday alleged that Congress leader Deepender Hooda hatched the conspiracy against him and praised SP chief Akhilesh Yadav for not supporting the agitators.

Singh, who is also a BJP MP, alleged that Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist grappler Bajrang Punia was also involved in the conspiracy against him.

The WFI chief is in the eye of a storm after the grapplers levelled sexual harassment charges against him and demanded his arrest as well as ouster from the Wrestling Federation of India. Various political parties, including the Congress and AAP, have lent their support to the wrestlers.

Singh, who has till now remained defiant about not quitting his post, said that he was ready to resign if it would make the protesters go back home. “If they go back and sleep peacefully after my resignation, I am ready to do so.”

Interacting with reporters at his residence in Bishnoharpur, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh alleged that “this whole conspiracy was hatched by Congress leader Deepender Hooda and wrestler Bajrang Punia. We have an audio (clip) to prove this. When the time comes, it will be handed over to the Delhi Police.”

About political leaders visiting the protest site of wrestlers in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, the WFI president said, “The fight has now gone out of the hands of the players. Political parties have entered into this. I could see the signs from day one.”

Talking to PTI here, the WFI president said, “I want to thank the leader of the Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav (for not siding with the protesting wrestlers). I know him since his childhood. I am elder to him. Though there are political differences between us, Akhilesh knows the truth.”

“If there are 10,000 wrestlers in Uttar Pradesh, 8,000 of them are from the Yadav community and belong to the Samajwadi family. Hence they know the truth,” he said.

The Delhi Police on Friday registered two FIRs against Singh on allegations of sexual harassment levelled by seven women wrestlers. While the first FIR pertained to allegations of a minor wrestler and was registered under the POCSO Act, the second was related to outraging modesty.

The BJP MP from Kaiserganj added that the protesters are mere “toys” in the hands of the Opposition.

“All these players have become toys in the hands of the Congress and other opposition parties. Their motive is political and not my resignation,” Singh said, adding that he was yet to receive a copy of the FIR registered against him.

The WFI chief wondered why the railway board was not stopping wrestlers associated with the railways from sitting on protest in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar.

“It is their right to protest. But, can a player associated with the railways sit on a protest like this where objectionable slogans are being raised against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath,” he asked.

Replying to a question, the BJP MP said, “Don’t drag the party (BJP) into this. These allegations are levelled against me as the president of the Wrestling Federation of India and not as a BJP MP.”

“I have to prove my innocence… If the party asks me to resign, I will do so immediately.”

About Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s participation in the wrestlers’ protest, Singh said “She does not know the facts. Deepender Hooda, the architect of this conspiracy, brought her to the protest site.”

“The day she comes to know the truth or the day the investigation report comes out she will realize that she should not have gone to the protest site. I openly challenge them to fight against me from Kaiserganj, Gonda, Shravasti or any Lok Sabha seat in the area. The result will clear all misunderstandings.”

The BJP MP claimed that “a big industrialist is responsible for the conspiracy against me.” Asked to name the industrialist, he said, “If I do so, he will get me killed.”

The protesting wrestlers had on Saturday warned against using their platform for political gains claiming few people were trying to take their fight for justice in a different direction.

Rahul Gandhi was disqualified to suppress voice of opposition, says Hooda

    [ad_1]

Sonipat: Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday claimed Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from Lok Sabha to suppress the voice of opposition, but asserted the voice of truth cannot be suppressed.

Addressing a ‘Samvidhan Bachao Rally’ here, Hooda said some forces want to weaken the Constitution but the Congress will not allow them to succeed nor will it allow the voice of Gandhi to be suppressed.

“The Constitution is not only a legal document, it is also a social and economic document. A strong India needs a strong Constitution. On the birth anniversary of Babasaheb B R Ambedkar, let us take a pledge that we will not allow anyone to weaken the rights given to us by the Constitution,” said Hooda.

Recalling the legacy of the Congress, the former Haryana chief minister said, “Our elders made sacrifices for the country’s freedom”.

He claimed Gandhi was disqualified from Lok Sabha to suppress the voice of the opposition.

He, however, added that the voice of truth cannot be suppressed.

Gandhi was disqualified Lok Sabha last month after his conviction by a Surat court in a 2019 defamation case.

Hooda also took on the BJP-led government in Haryana.

He claimed before 2014, Haryana was leading in development, per capita income, per capita investment and in other fields, “but today it is lagging behind many areas and is ranked number 1 in unemployment, inflation, crime, corruption and debt”.

He said if Congress comes to power after next year’s state assembly polls, Rs 6,000 pension would be given to the elderly and 300 units of free electricity will be given to the people.

Paying tribute to Ambedkar on his 132nd birth anniversary, general secretary in-charge of Haryana Congress and Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil said Babasaheb had said, ‘Be educated, stay organised and struggle’.

He alleged that the BJP does politics of lies and its lies have to be countered.

State Congress chief Udai Bhan said on the basis of the mantras given by Ambedkar, the Congress party made laws like the Right to Education, Right to Information, and the Right to Food.

“The Congress brought the Scheduled Castes-Scheduled Tribes Atrocities Prevention Act to empower the weak, backward, exploited and deprived sections of the society. Babasaheb worked to give equal rights to everyone through the Constitution and strengthened democracy,” he said.

Bhan claimed the existence of the constitutional institutions is under threat today.

“The BJP government is misusing the constitutional institutions. When Rahul Gandhi asked questions on corruption, his membership was taken away under a political conspiracy,” Bhan alleged.

Congress’s Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Singh Hooda first paid tribute to Ambedkar and recounted his contributions in giving India its Constitution. “(But) those who have come to power today say nothing has happened in 75 years,” he said.

Hooda promises OPS if Congress voted to power in Haryana

    [ad_1]

Yamunanagar: Eyeing support of government employees, Congress leader and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Sunday again promised restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) if the party was voted to power in 2024 Assembly polls.

He slammed the BJP-JJP government for pushing the state into a debt trap, saying that a state that was once at the top of development has been number one in crime and unemployment.

Addressing the Vipaksh Aapke Samaksh and Jai Bharat Satyagraha programme organised by the Congress here, Hooda, who is the Leader of Opposition in Assembly, said Haryana is one of those states which have more debt than its state budget.

    MS Education Academy

“Today the state is immersed in a debt trap. Law and order has become worse. Haryana ranks number two in the country in crimes like murder and rape. Haryana, which was among the leading states, is rapidly lagging,” he said.

The meeting saw a large attendance with all roads leading to the programme venue were blocked.

Enthused by seeing the huge crowd, Hooda announced that the OPS will be implemented as soon as the Congress government is formed in the state.

“A pension of Rs 6,000 will be given to all elderly and we will give legal guarantee of the MSP (minimum support price). The creamy layer limit of backward class will be increased from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. Gas cylinders will be given to women for Rs 500 and sanitation workers would be given permanent jobs,” he promised.

Hooda said he had come to the meeting to listen to grievances of the people.

“In Haryana, farmers, laborers, traders, employees — rural and urban — and every section are repenting. Farmer is not getting the MSP. Today there is no buyer for mustard. The MSP of mustard is Rs 5,450 per quintal but farmers are forced to sell it for Rs 4,000. Potatoes have to be sold at 50 paise per kg in Pipli. It was promised to double the income of the farmer, but the agricultural cost doubled,” he added.

Expressing disagreement with the decision to end the Lok Sabha membership of Rahul Gandhi, Hooda said the Congress would fight a legal battle against this decision. “Today the Constitution itself is in danger, it needs to be protected. We will not allow the Constitution to be tampered with. No power can suppress the voice of Rahul Gandhi and the Congress.”

About the “record unemployment” in the state, he said the youths are migrating to other places for employment. “As soon as the Congress government is formed, we will provide permanent employment to the youth in Haryana itself and will fill vacant government posts,” Hooda added.

More than 24 party MLAs and 50 former ministers, former MLAs and former MPs, besides senior leaders, were present at the programme.

Former minister Ashok Arora, the convener of the Vipak Aapke Samaksh programme, conducted the meeting.

State Congress chief Uday Bhan said the BJP-led Central government is scared of Rahul Gandhi’s questions.

“What is the reason that the debt of Haryana has increased from Rs 60,000 crore to more than 3 lakh crores in the last nine years. Today the petroleum and has prices have come down in international market, but this government is not giving any relief to the common people. The time has come to overthrow this government,” he said.

MP Deepender Hooda said during the Congres government in the state four cities were connected with metro and 12 universities and medical colleges were built.

“The BJP-JJP government has derailed the state from the track of development and has pushed the youth of the state into the unemployment trap.”

Haryana: Cops use water cannons on protesting employees; Hooda slams action

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: The Haryana Police on Sunday used water cannons and teargas on thousands of protesting government employees demanding restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).

Coming out in support of employees, former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda condemned using force against the protesting employees in Panchkula. He said the employees were protesting for legitimate demands.

“Cane-charge and use of teargas on a peaceful protest is highly condemnable. In a democracy, the government runs through dialogue, but Haryana’s BJP-JJP alliance wants to run the government through sticks and bullets,” he said.

The Leader of Opposition said the Congress supports the demand of the employees and promised to strongly raise the issue in the forthcoming Budget session of the Vidhan Sabha.

“If the present government does not accept the demands of the employees, a decision will be taken to implement OPS in the very first cabinet meeting after the formation of the Congress government in the state. The old-pension scheme has already been implemented in Congress-ruled Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Himachal Pradesh. Employees in Haryana will also get benefits on the same lines.”

Talking to the media after the Congress Legislature Party meeting here, he said the MLAs discussed party strategy in the assembly in detail.

Congress MLAs have given more than two dozen calling attention and adjournment motions in the assembly session and dozens of other issues will also be raised during the Zero Hour.

He said the Congress would raise family identity card, cut in pension of senior citizens, cut in BPL card, illegal mining, NGT cases, unemployment, demand for OPS, privatization of education, etc.

When asked about the budget, Hooda said nothing can be expected from this government after seeing the record of the last eight years.

Ahead of the meeting, delegations of agitating employees for OPS, sportspersons, ration depot holders, private college employees, Sarva Karmachari Sangh and farmers met Hooda and handed over a memorandum regarding their demands.

Hooda asked the government to take cognizance of their demands.

Bhiwani deaths: Hooda seeks prompt action, accused says being framed

    [ad_1]

Chandigarh: Haryana’s Leader of Opposition and two-time Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda on Friday demanded a fair investigation and prompt action into allegations of family members who have accused cow vigilantes associated with the Bajrang Dal, led by Monu Manesar, of killing two men and burning the bodies on charges of cow smuggling.

“The finding of burnt bodies of two people in Loharu in Bhiwani is a serious issue,” Hooda said in a statement here.

He said the incident has once again made it clear that there is no such thing as law and order in the state. The government should take cognisance of the matter and conduct a fair investigation and take prompt action.

Charred remains of both men — Junaid, 35, and Nasir, 28, — were found in a car in Haryana’s Bhiwani. They belonged to Rajasthan’s Bharatpur where families of the deceased sought compensation of Rs 51 lakh and a government job each and refused to perform last rites till their demands were met.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, condemning the killing of Junaid and Nasir, said one accused has been detained in the case and search is on for remaining accused.

According to the complaint, Junaid and Nasir were abducted from Bharatpur by Bajrang Dal cow vigilantes.

Mohit Yadav aka Manesar, named in the FIR, has 83,000 followers on Facebook and 2,05,000 subscribers on YouTube. He received a silver play button from YouTube in October last year.

After a case was registered, Manesar, a member of Cow Protection Task Force hailing from Haryana’s Manesar, claimed that that he’s being framed.

“This incident is unfortunate. We came to know about this incident from social media. The strictest action should be taken against all the accused in this incident. We are fully prepared to cooperate in the investigation,” Manesar said in a video. He has demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter.

Manesar has been absconding after a viral video showed him firing rounds in Haryana’s Pataudi, where clashes were reported between two groups last week.
