Following a communal clash between Hindus and Muslims after the alleged desecration of a religious flag set up during Ram Navami, a senior police official from east Singhbhum, Vijay Shankar, rubbished false claims that it was chicken not beef which was hung on a rope between an electricity and flag pole.

Religious Hindus had protested and threatened the police to take action against the alleged perpetrators within 24 hours, visuals of which also surfaced.

Following misinformation that was spread in Jamshedpur, communal clashes broke out between the two communities with reports of alleged stone pelting.

Visuals of the burning down of at least half a dozen of small shops and vehicles, all belonging to Muslims, by a mob shouting slogans of Jai Shree Ram also surfaced.

In a statement released by the police, rubbishing the allegation, the official stressed that every piece of meat found cannot be of that prohibited.

The police officer stated that was a practice for meat shops to hang at a safe distance from the ground waste chicken meat to ensure that dogs do not spread it across.

Muslim organisations in the city have appealed to Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren for strict action against the perpetrators, failing which they will come to the streets to protest.

The situation turned violent on Sunday evening when a shop was gutted leading to brick-batting from both sides injuring six people. A mob also set on fire an autorickshaw, forcing the police to fire tear gas shells. DIG (Kolhan) Ajay Linda said that the shops and the auto-rickshaw were set ablaze by local miscreants.

So far, 59 people have been arrested in the case after an FIR was filed late on Monday.

“Generally, intellectuals of the country mention missionaries for their service. But, the service provided by Hindu spiritual gurus in four southern states is more than that done by missionaries,” Bhagwat said.

  • Hindu temple vandalised in Canada; police describes it as ‘hate-motivated incident’

Hindu temple vandalised in Canada; police describes it as ‘hate-motivated incident’

    [ad_1]

Toronto: A prominent Hindu temple in Canada’s Ontario province has been vandalised by unknown people with “anti-Hindu and anti-India graffiti”, in what is described by police as a “hate-motivated incident.”

In a statement, the police in Ontario’s Windsor city said on Wednesday that it has launched an investigation into the incident and looking for two suspects.

The High Commission of India in Ottawa, Canada has strongly condemned the act of vandalism.

    MS Education Academy

“We have taken up with the Canadian authorities the hateful act of putting anti India graffiti on the walls of BAPS Swaminarayan temple in Windsor. We strongly condemn this act of vandalism,” the mission said in a tweet.

The Windsor Police Service said officers were dispatched to the Hindu temple in the 1700 block of the Northway Avenue following a report of hate-motivated vandalism on Wednesday.

“Officers discovered anti-Hindu and anti-India graffiti sprayed in black on an exterior wall of the building,” the police said in a statement.

The Windsor Police Service was investigating vandalism at the temple “as a hate-motivated incident,” the statement said.

Through investigation, officers obtained a video that shows two suspects in the area just after 12 a.m. In the video, one suspect appears to commit the vandalism on the wall of the building while the other keeps watch, it said.

At the time of the incident, one suspect wore a black sweater, black pants with a small white logo on the left leg, and black and white high-top running shoes.

The second suspect wore black pants, a sweatshirt black shoes, and white socks.Police asked residents in the immediate vicinity of the temple to check their home surveillance or dashcam video footage for evidence of the suspects.

In January, the Gauri Shankar temple in Brampton was targeted with anti-India graffiti, causing an outrage among the Indian community.

The Indian Consulate General in Toronto had said the defacing of the temple had deeply hurt the sentiments of the Indian community in Canada.

At least three similar acts of vandalism have been recorded in Canada last year.

Last September, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement condemning the rise of hate crimes against Indians and anti-India activities in Canada, expressing their concern with stern language.

Statistics Canada reported a 72 per cent increase in hate crimes based on religion, sexual orientation, and race between 2019 and 2021.

This has led to increased fears among minority communities, particularly the Indian community, which is the fastest-growing demographic group in Canada, accounting for almost four per cent of the population.

Akhand Hindu Rashtra dream must reach Makkah: Yati Narsinghanand

    [ad_1]

The 58-year-old head of Dasna Devi temple in Uttar Pradesh, Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati, delivered a hate speech recently at a two-day event named Hindu Jagruti Samelan (Awakening the Kshatriya) organised by Nyay Manch Trust in Noida between April 1 and 2.

The video has gone viral in social media with many condemning the right-wing leader’s Islamophobic remarks and intentional targeting of Prophet Muhammad.

Yati claimed that there is a Shiv temple beneath the Kaaba, Islam’s holiest site.

    MS Education Academy

“Akhand Hindu Rashtra was the dream of Veer Savarkar and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This dream should not be restricted to Afghanistan but we should work hard till Hindutva reaches Makkah and Kaaba,” Yati alleges.

“The Zamzam water that flows in the Kaaba is actually the holy Ganges,” he claimed which was followed by a few claps.

“If we (Hindus) fail to overpower Makkah, then there is no force in this world that can weaken Islam,” Yati said.

Aapko (Hindus) Makkeshwar Mahadev ko jeetna hee padega (We have to win over Makeshwar Mahadev),” Yati said and added that Makkah is the root cause for ‘cancer’, pointing at Islam, metaphorically.

Indirectly referring to ‘love jihad‘, Yati said that Hindu women should be protected at all costs to save Sanatan Dharma.

“If you are not vigilant in saving Hindutva, then remember that every temple will be razed to dust, and every Hindu woman, including our daughters, will be raped and sold as sex slaves by them (referring to Muslims). This is their only motto in life,” Yati said.

The event that was streamed on Youtube appealed to its viewers to donate for Hindu Rashtra. “Nyay Manch wants to groom 500 social media influencers to raise their voice for ‘Ghar Waapsi’. After this, these people will reach this target of 50,000 people. This is how these waves will move forward,” the Nyay Manch bio stated.

    Nyay Manch

Freelance journalist Alishan Jafri shared the video and tagged foreign minister S Jaishankar asking him to take action on hate speeches rather than face embarrassment on a global level while representing India.

“He’s talking about the Holy Kaaba in a hateful way. @DrSJaishankar is wise enough to know that this may not be received well internationally. Instead of firefighting diplomatic flak and embarrassment like last time, it would be appreciated if action is taken when Indians flag it,” the journalist tweeted.

  • Hindu fundamental groups using Ram Navami, Hanuman Jayanthi to target minorities: Report

Hindu fundamental groups using Ram Navami, Hanuman Jayanthi to target minorities: Report

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Hindu fundamental organizations like Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, along with their affiliates, are using the Sri Ram Navami Shobha Yatra and Hanuman Jayanthi procession on big scale to target minorities said a report by the Citizens and Lawyers Initiative. Titled ‘Routes of Wrath – Weaponizing Religious Processions’, it was released with a foreword from Justice Rohinton F. Nariman, former Judge, Supreme Court of India reveals.

The book in depth explains about the communal violence and arson incidents reported in 12 states in India during the Sri Rama Navami Shobha Yatra processions. It is edited by senior advocate Chander Uday Singh.

    What the report says

Ram Navami processions in particular, have been taken over by militant Hindutva organisations over the years, as the figure of Ram is central to the political imagination of the Sangh, said the report. A Shobha yatra, which translates to a “shining” or “glorious” procession, was different from traditional rath-yatras, which are organised by temples and are generally limited to nearby areas.

    MS Education Academy

The Ram Navami Shobha yatras are grand processions of pomp and ceremony attempting to cover entire cities, involving cavalcades of vehicles, each carrying dozens of men, shouting slogans and frequently wielding arms, stated the report.

In April 2022, India witnessed communal violence breaking out in as many as nine states, along with incidents of provocation and low-grade violence in three others. “In all of them, the catalyst for the violence was the same:  religious processions celebrating the Hindu festivals of Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti, followed by targeted attacks on Muslim-owned properties, businesses and places of worship,” the report said.

The violence witnessed in 2022 and 2023 wasn’t the first time India has seen mob violence under the garb of religious festivities. However, the report noted that it took place on a much larger, seemingly coordinated scale than previous years. It elaborated that, “a breakdown of the rule of law was observed and documented in most of these towns and villages. The immediate violence associated with Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti processions saw more than a hundred homes and shops destroyed or burned down, vehicles set ablaze in every city, and multiple places of worship damaged or vandalized.”

The report speaks about the government action following the violence in forms bulldozing of houses of minoriy communities. “The riots was followed in quick order by State action in some of these cities and towns, which saw further destruction in the form of illegal demolitions of houses and shops, to punish those that the state branded as ‘rioters’ or ‘anti- social’ elements.  The state-sponsored violence has also caused a crisis of displacement of Muslim families in riot-hit areas, either rendered homeless by the demolitions or having been forced to flee from their homes in fear of further state harassment.

Dating back to the pre-2000 era, when communal violence gained grounds, the report discusses how religious processions are precursors to communal violence. “In the 1970s and 1980s there were several communal riots that were triggered by processions that doubled up as a show of majoritarian strength. In the 1980s in particular, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) branded these as ‘yatras’. VHP reacted to the 1981 Meenakshipuram conversions of 150 Dalit families to Islam by taking out ‘ekatmata yajna yatras’,” the report poined out.

“It is important to note not only the nature of the (Ram Navami) processions and their strategies of inciting violence, but also the fact that the dates chosen for said instigation in 2022 were Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti, both of which fell within the month of Ramzan. This was used by right- wing institutions of the state and the media in states like Gujarat to further conspiracy theories projecting Muslims uniformly as the assailants – whereas they have suffered the most losses,” it further highlighted.

These affected States are Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Goa and West Bengal, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar. The report by the collective also points out that communal violence are pre-planned in a majority of cases in the country. Wherever it was reported, processions took to a new route with lone intentions to create trouble.

In 2022, during Hanuman Jayanthi processions, violence were reported in Jahangirpuri locality of Delhi. The report quoting various sources pointed out, “A huge crowd had gathered with a majority of the participants armed with swords, knives, baseball bats and hockey sticks. A few of them were also brandishing kattas (country-made pistols). The first two rallies passed peacefully after they weren’t allowed to pass through the mosque on Kushal Road The third and final rally didn’t follow the prescribed route and reached Kushal Road crossing through B and C blocks. At around 5 pm, the procession had reached the mosque in Block C, Jahangirpuri, where the provocative nature of the procession caused violence to break out.”

In another instance in Himmatnagar, the biggest taluka of Sabarkantha district in North-Gujarat, a procession of 500-600 people organized by Antarashtriya Hindu Parishad (AHP) entered Ashraf Nagar in Chhapariya area in a Muslim-dominated area between two Hindu localities – Shakti Nagar and Mahavir Nagar. The procession involved loud provocative songs, sword wielding and aggressive behaviour while marching with saffron flags they stopped in front of a mosque, the report said.

Right-wing leader Kajal Singhala alias Kajal Hindusthani targetted Muslim women by listing out the “benefits” of marrying into a Hindu household.

Speaking at a recently concluded Ram Navami event organised by the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in Gir Somnath district of Gujarat, she said that Muslim women will gain a lot of freedom if married to a Hindu man.

Irani accuses West Bengal CM of protecting those who pelted Hindu procession with stones

    [ad_1]

New Delhi Union minister Smriti Irani on Friday hit out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the violence during a Ram Navami procession in Howrah and accused her of protecting those who pelted it with stones.

In a statement, the BJP leader said it was not the first time that such an “attack” happened on a religious exercise of Hinduism and alleged a similar attack had taken place during Lakshmi Puja.

“Even then Mamata Banerjee could not protect the Hindu community,” Irani said.

“Instead of delivering justice, CM Mamata protected those who took law in their hands and attacked the Shobha Yatra of Ram Navami. She instead put those who took out the yatra in the dock and gave a clean chit to those who pelted the procession with stones,” the Union minister said.

Banerjee on Friday asserted that neither Hindus nor Muslims, but the BJP and other right-wing organisations were behind the violence in Howrah’s Kazipara area during a procession on Ram Navami.

She also appealed to the people of both communities to maintain peace and law and order in the area.
