SRK-starrer ‘Pathaan’ becomes first Hindi film to release in Bangladesh post 1971

Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s blockbuster ‘Pathaan’ will now become the first Hindi film to release in Bangladesh post 1971. It is set to release on May 12 in Bangladesh.
Nelson D’Souza, Vice President, International Distribution, said, “Cinema has always been a unifying force between nations, races and cultures. It transcends borders, galvanises people and plays a significant hand in bringing people together.”
“We are incredibly thrilled that ‘Pathaan’, which has done historic business worldwide, will now get a chance to entertain audiences in Bangladesh!”

He adds, “Pathaan becomes the first Hindi film to release in Bangladesh post 1971 and we are thankful to the authorities for their decision. We have learnt over the years that Shah Rukh Khan has tremendous fan following in Bangladesh and we feel Pathaan, our latest offering from YRF’s Spy Universe, is the perfect first film of SRK & Hindi cinema to release in the country and represent Indian culture and cinema in its full glory.”
‘Pathaan’ is also the highest grossing film of the fabled YRF’s Spy Universe that also includes blockbusters like ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ and ‘War’.

Hyderabadis watch OTT shows for at least 3 hours a day, 52% in Hindi: Report

Hyderabad: A recent study shows that with an average watch time of over 3 hours every day, 52 percent of over-the-top (OTT) content consumers in the city prefer Hindi language content, 28 percent prefer English content while only 14 percent gravitate towards Telugu content.
Among the female audience, 60 percent prefer Hindi and English content over Telugu, says the Hyderabad-based marketing consultancy, Red Matter Technologies’ (RMT) new report ‘Understanding Paid OTT Subscribers of Hyderabad’.
The report also observes that regional players are struggling to gain penetration and affinity among the people on OTT platforms.

The report says that the audience of Hyderabad is indulging in over 3 hours of OTT content every day, with weekends showing 10 percent higher viewership than weekdays.
For city dwellers, OTT viewing is predominantly a mobile experience, with more than half inclined to consume content on the go.
Speaking about the report, RMT’s chief executive officer, Srikant Rajasekharuni said, “OTT platforms have become an integral part of our daily lives, and this report provides valuable insights into the viewing habits of Hyderabad’s paid subscribers.”
Regarding preferred platforms, the report identified three segments – big tech platforms like Prime Video with 70 percent of users, followed by broadcast and regional platforms.
The report’s key audience is individuals who are quite active on the internet, spend money on internet subscriptions, and are primarily working.

The report shows that 77 percent of the audience who subscribe to OTT platforms in the city have an average total household income of approximately Rs 60000 per month.
Hyderabad’s under-26 population prefers watching their OTT shows alone as they tend to gravitate towards more personal and individualistic shows. More than half of the above 35 population of the city, that is 55 percent of them, show a stronger preference towards watching TV with family members.
The report also says that 62 percent of the audience have an active music streaming service, while cable usage was at 58 percent.

TN CM condemns Hindi imposition in labelling curd

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday condemned imposition of Hindi even in labelling curd and said those responsible for it would be “banished” from southern parts of the country.
On his Twitter handle, Stalin posted a news report on Food Safety and Standards Authority of India directing Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) to label curd as “dahi” prominently.
The Bengaluru datelined report in “The Hindu” on Wednesday said the FSSAI directed the KMF to use the Kannada equivalent for curd “mosaru” in brackets.
“The FSSAI clarification on labelling curd has come recently after Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka milk federations sought usage of local names on the curd sachets,” the report said. Also, Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation has been told by FSSAI that to Tamil words “tair” or “tayir” could be used in brackets.
Citing the report, Stalin said: “The unabashed insistences of #HindiImposition have come to the extent of directing us to label even a curd packet in Hindi, relegating Tamil & Kannada in our own states. Such brazen disregard to our mother tongues will make sure those responsible are banished from South forever.”

Video: ‘This is Karnataka, why should I speak in Hindi?’, autorickshaw driver gets irritated

A video has emerged from Bengaluru where an irritated autorickshaw driver is seen arguing with women passengers who reportedly asked him to speak in Hindi.
The video has since gone viral with around 38,000 views on Twitter. Many have lauded the autorickshaw driver for not bowing to his passengers’ demands.
However, it is still not clear what led to the argument. The video starts with the autorickshaw telling the ladies, “This is Karnataka and you have to speak in Kannada. You people are north Indian beggars, why have you come to Karnataka?”
As he speaks, one of the passengers says, “No, we will not speak Kannada, why should we speak in Kannada?”
The autorickshaw driver is irritated and stops his vehicle yelling, “This is our land, not your land. Why should I speak in Hindi?”
Realizing it could lead to a tense situation, the woman passengers get down and say “Okay” to calm the situation.
Recently, pan India actor Prakash Raj, who originally hails from Karnataka, wore a T-shirt that read, “Nange Hindi Baralla, Hogappa” which translates to “I don’t know Hindi, Go!”
The actor received a lot of flake from netizens who termed it as an “insult” to Hindi. A Supreme Court lawyer shared the actor’s photo in the T-shirt and tagged Tamil Nadu police demanding an FIR.

The actor took to Twitter saying, “My roots..my mother tongue is KANNADA .. if you DISRESPECT her and try to FORCE your language.. we will PROTEST like this. R u threatening #justasking”

Pathaan becomes all-time number one Hindi film in India

Mumbai: Superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan” has become the all-time number one Hindi film in India by raising Rs 1028 crore worldwide since its release in January, said Yash Raj Films (YRF).
According to the studio, the Siddharth Anand directorial raised Rs 1.07 crore nett in India (Hindi – Rs 1.05 crore, all dubbed versions – Rs 0.02 crore) on its sixth Friday.
“The nett collection in India stand at Rs 529.96 crore (Hindi – Rs 511.70 crore, dubbed – Rs 18.26 crore) The total worldwide gross is an incredible 1028 crore (India gross: Rs 641.50 crore, overseas: Rs 386.50 crore)” YRF said in a press note.
The movie, a mega comeback vehicle for Shah Rukh after his absence from leading man roles for more than four years, released on January 25 to great hype and record advance bookings.
“It feels incredible that ‘Pathaan’ is now the number one Hindi film in India today! The love and appreciation that has been showered on ‘Pathaan’ by audiences is historic and it shows in the box office result. As a director, I’m proud that I made a film that has entertained people globally,” Anand said in a statement.
The new milestone comes days after “Pathaan” became the highest grossing Hindi film worldwide in the history of Hindi cinema in its initial run. “Dangal” is the highest grossing Indian film with a reported earnings of around Rs 2,000 crore.
In its initial run or phase one of the release, the Aamir Khan-starrer earned over Rs 700 crore. In its second phase, when it was released in theatres in China, the film’s box office crossed the Rs 1,000 crore mark in worldwide gross.
Other Indian films that crossed Rs 1,000 crore mark at the global box office include “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion”, “RRR” and “K.G.F: Chapter 2”.

“Pathaan”, which also stars John Abraham and Deepika Padukone, is an important step in YRF’s spy franchise where characters from different films will cross paths at some point. The film follows the titular spy (Shah Rukh) who comes out of exile to stop terrorist group Outfit X from launching a debilitating attack on India.
It is the fourth film in producer Aditya Chopra’s spy universe, following Salman Khan’s “Ek Tha Tiger” and “Tiger Zinda Hai”, and “War”, featuring Hrithik Roshan.

TN police file FIR against Hindi daily’s editor for rumour-mongering

Chennai: Cases have been filed against the Editor of Dainik Bhaskar and another journalist for spreading false information claiming attacks on migrant workers in Tamil Nadu, the State police said on Saturday.
Special teams have been formed under the orders of the Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu, C Sylendra Babu to arrest them, they said. Migrant workers of northern States are living in peace in Tamil Nadu with safety and security and without fear.
A case was registered against the Editor of Dainik Bhaskar newspaper in Tirupur North Police Station under IPC sections covering promoting enmity and mischief causing fear among public, a State police press release said.
Another case has been registered in Tirupur Cyber Crime Police Station against Mohammad Tanvir (TanveerPost Twitter handle) under the IPC for making imputations prejudicial to national integration, making mischief causing fear among public and under a relevant section of the Information Technology Act.
Against “one Prashant Umrao,” an FIR has been filed under various sections of the IPC including those for giving provocation with intent to cause riot, promoting enmity and hatred, provoking breach of peace, statement leading to public mischief, police said. Thoothukudi Central Police Station has filed the case.
Umrao’s verified Twitter handle said he is the spokesperson for Uttarpradesh BJP. However, the police statement did not identify him as a Saffron party office-bearer.
Krishnagiri Police registered a case against a person –named in FIR as Shubham Shukla– under an IPC section for posting false information on Twitter.
Police warned of stern action against those spreading false information to disturb peace and create tension.

‘Pathaan’ breaks ‘Baahubali 2’ Hindi record, director Siddharth Anand reacts

Mumbai: There’s no stopping ‘Pathaan’. The Shah Rukh Khan-starrer has become highest grossing Hindi film ever, breaking ‘Baahubali 2’ record.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter, “#Pathaan #Tamil + #Telugu [Week 5] Fri 2 lacs, Sat 3 lacs, Sun 5 lacs, Mon 2 lacs, Tue 2 lacs, Wed 2 lacs, Thu 2 lacs. Total: Rs 18.24 cr. NOTE: #Pathaan #Hindi + #Tamil + #Telugu combined biz: Rs 528.29 cr. #India biz. Nett BOC.”
The Hindi lifetime collection of Baahubali 2 stood at a staggering Rs 510.99 crore.
With ‘Pathaan’ surprassing the collection of SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali’ in Hindi, director Siddharth Anand expressed happiness on Twitter.

Released on January 25, ‘Pathaan’ also stars John Abraham, Deepika Padukone, Dimple Kapadia and Ashutosh Rana among others. Produced by Yash Raj Films, the film is written by Shridhar Raghavan.
The film’s team recently held a success bash where SRK, Deepika and Siddharth shared their experience of coming on board for Pathaan.

“It’s nice to be back. I am not in a hurry to finish the film. Its always been my desire to spread happiness among people and make films to entertain. Whenever I fail to do so, nobody feels as bad as me. I am very happy that I was able to spread happiness and especially to those who are close to my heart – Aditya Chopra and Siddharth. And those who gave me the opportunity as you will notice the film is a very big film, it will be an expensive film.
