Turkey on high alert against possible terror attacks on Western targets

    [ad_1]

Ankara: Turkey has raised its security measures to highest level against possible Islamic State (IS) and al-Qaida retaliation on Western targets in the country, the Turkish Interior Ministry said.

“Evaluations were made against all possible provocations, and our security measures were maximised after the sinister actions against our holy book the Quran, in Sweden, the Netherlands and Denmark,” the Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

In this context, the information that terrorist organisations, such as the IS and al-Qaida, are seeking action in many countries has also been evaluated, it added.

Turkey made some arrests through an allied country’s intelligence but couldn’t find any weapon or sign of action, noted the Ministry, without naming the country, Xinhua news agency reported.

On Monday, the Embassy of the US in Turkey warned its citizens of possible attacks against churches, synagogues, and diplomatic missions in Istanbul province, following protests involving burning Quran broke out in several European countries.

It was the second warning issued by the embassy in the past four days.

  • ‘MLAs resignation were not voluntary’: Rajasthan High Court

‘MLAs resignation were not voluntary’: Rajasthan High Court

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: A resignations of 81 MLAs of Rajasthan’s ruling Congress, submitted on September 25 last year, were not voluntary, and hence, they were not approved, the Assembly Secretary told the High Court on Monday.

The response of the Assembly Secretary, in an affidavit, came as a bench of Chief Justice Pankaj Mitthal was hearing the petition of Deputy Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader Rajendra Rathore.

Senior Supreme Court advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing on behalf of the Assembly Secretary Mahavir Prasad Sharma, argued through video conferencing. The state Advocate General also appeared.

The next hearing is scheduled on February 13.

The Assembly Secretary’s affidavit sought to present the complete details of the episode, citing the entire file notings, right from the resignations submitted to the Speaker to the withdrawal of the resignations.

In his reasons for not accepting the resignations, the Speaker said: “All MLAs have presented applications for voluntary withdrawal of their resignations by appearing before me separately. It is clearly mentioned in the applications that the resignations given earlier by them were not voluntary. All the MLAs have voluntarily withdrawn their resignations as per Rule 173(4) of the Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. This is not a matter of the 10th Schedule, but of the resignations of ministers and MLAs. That’s why the order of the Supreme Court to take a decision in four weeks does not apply.”

On September 25, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal, Government Chief Whip Mahesh Joshi, Deputy Chief Whip Mahendra Chaudhary, Revenue Minister Ramlal Jat, Congress MLA Rafiq Khan and Independent MLA and CM’s advisor Sanyam Lodha took the resignations of 81 MLAs in front of the Speaker on September 25.

Five MLAs had given photocopied resignations. These include Chetan Doody, Danish Abrar and Independent Suresh Tak who were earlier from Pilot camp and Gehlot supporters Amit Chachan (Nohar, Hanumangarh) and Gopal Meena (Jamua Ramgarh, Jaipur) who also submitted photocopied resignations.

In the reply presented by the Assembly Secretary, it has been said that according to Rule 173 (3) of the procedure and conduct of business of the members of the Legislative Assembly, the resignations will not be accepted until the resolution is given that they are voluntary and genuine. Even after not taking a decision on resignations for a long time, the Speaker held that not every MLA had given separate resignations, and the resignations were presented en masse.

On December 20, 2022, 24 MLAs withdrew their resignations, 38 did on December 31, and 15 more MLAs on January 1, 2023 by appearing before the Speaker. On January 2, two more MLAs withdrew their resignations, followed by Lodha on January 3, and on January 10, – the last one – Congress member Wajib Ali – followed suit.

  • Samsung smartphone users under high risk, India government issues warning – Kashmir News

    [ad_1]

Samsung Galaxy smartphones have dominated the smartphone market For quite some time. Samsung Galaxy smartphones are used by millions of people for everyday conversations. As phones get smarter, they are not just used for calls and messages. Smartphones store some of our most sensitive and private information because they are also used for photography, online meetings, banking, and other activities.

The Korean tech giant periodically releases security updates for its apps and devices to safeguard such data. Despite Samsung’s recommendation that users use the most recent version of their apps for a more secure and feature-rich experience, some users choose to use older versions for convenience, but it’s important to note that older versions of apps are easier to exploit. The Indian government has issued a warning to Samsung Galaxy users following the discovery of one such flaw in the app.

According to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), which is part of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. A vulnerability in the Samsung Galaxy Store app has been discovered, This vulnerability could allow a local attacker to install an unwanted app or execute arbitrary code on the phone being targeted. Users of Samsung Galaxy smartphones with Samsung Galaxy Store app versions prior to 4.5.49.8 will be affected by the vulnerability.

according to CERT-In, This vulnerability exists in the Samsung Galaxy Store app, as a result of an exported activity flow that does not safeguard incoming intents. A specially crafted request could be sent by a local attacker to take advantage of this vulnerability. A local attacker could install applications from the Galaxy App Store on the targeted device without the user’s knowledge if this vulnerability is successfully exploited.

If you tap a malicious hyperlink in Google Chrome or a malicious application that is already installed, an attacker can also take advantage of the vulnerability. Through Samsung’s URL filter, a local attacker can launch a webview to a domain controlled by the attacker.

Installing the most recent version of the Samsung Galaxy Store app right away will help you avoid being conned.

  • Inherent powers of high courts to be exercised with care: SC

Inherent powers of high courts to be exercised with care: SC

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The inherent powers of high courts under section 482 of the Code Of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) should be exercised with care, caution and sparingly, the Supreme Court said on Monday.

A bench of justices Ajay Rastogi and CT Ravikumar made the observation while quashing and setting aside an FIR registered against a woman and others under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“There can be no doubt with respect to the position that the jurisdiction under section 482, CrPC is to be exercised with care and caution and sparingly…. The exercise of the said power must be for securing the ends of justice and only in cases where a refusal to exercise that power may result in an abuse of the process of law,” the bench said.

The top court was hearing an appeal challenging a Calcutta High Court order that refused to quash the FIR against the accused in connection with the management of a school.

The high court declined to exercise the jurisdiction under section 482 of the CrPC, holding that a perusal of the case diary as also the materials appearing therefrom prima facie made out a case for investigation.

Referring to its earlier decisions, the apex court said section 482 is designed to achieve the purpose of ensuring that criminal proceedings are not permitted to generate into weapons of harassment.

The court noted that the respondent concealed the pendency of a civil suit to cover up the civil nature of the dispute.

The top court said it has no hesitation to hold that allowing the continuance of the
criminal proceedings against the appellants would result in an abuse of the process of the court as also miscarriage of justice.
