Kolkata: Harry Brook did incur the wrath of Indian fans whose opinion about players is as fickle as English weather but he is happy that his maiden IPL hundred will “shut them up” for good.
Having scored 29 in three games so far, Brook came to his own with a 55-ball unbeaten 100 that ensured a 23-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in an IPL match here on Friday.
“I was putting pressure on myself a little bit. You go on social media and people are calling you rubbish. There’s a lot of Indian fans out there who’ll say well done tonight. But they were slagging me off a few days ago. Glad I could shut them up to be honest,” Brook said after the match.
While he predictably rated his three Test hundreds over an IPL ton, he was satisfied to get to the milestone with his girlfriend in the stands.
“My four Test hundreds will have to be over this one,” he said.
It was a “special night” and Brook insisted that he can bat at any position.
“It was a special night. Thankfully, we got over the line as well. Got a little tense in the middle. A lot of people say that opening the batting in T20 is the best time to bat.
“I am happy to bat anywhere. I’ve had a lot of success batting at five. Made my name there. The crowd was phenomenal tonight. I enjoyed it,” Brook said.
Los Angeles: Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai is receiving praise for her graceful response to American television host Jimmy Kimmel’s odd query during the 95th Academy Awards ceremony.
Yousafzai, a Pakistani activist for girls education who miraculously survived a bullet to the head from Taliban in October 2012, attended the glitzy award ceremony as an executive producer of “Stranger at the Gate”, which was nominated for the Documentary Short Film honour.
During the ceremony, Kimmel approached Yousafzai and read out a question from a fan named ‘Joanne’. The query was about singer Harry Styles and Hollywood star Chris Pine’s ‘spit-gate’ incident that apparently happened at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
“Your work on human rights and education for women and children is an inspiration. As the youngest Nobel prize winner in history, do you think Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine?” he asked.
“I only talk about peace,” responded a visibly uncomfortable Yousafzai.
To this, Kimmel said, “You know what? That’s why you’re Malala and nobody else is. That’s a great answer, Malala. The winner is malala-land, everybody.”
Yousafzai later shared a news clip about the incident on her Twitter handle.
“Treat people with kindness,” the 25-year-old simply worded the video.
Many on social media criticised Kimmel.
“Why the hell did jimmy kimmel go up to malala, make that corny a** chris pine and harry styles joke and then call her malala land?? what is wrong with this man #oscars (sic)” tweeted a user.
Another wrote, “The Oscar’s was lowkey boring. Somebody shoulda smacked Jimmy Kimmel for his corny a** slap jokes and asking Malala dumb a** questions (sic).”
“Asian people still lost tonight because of jimmy kimmel’s horrible banter with malala,” read another tweet.
At the ceremony, Yousafzai opted for a glittering floor-length Ralph Lauren silver-sequinned gown with an incorporated head scarf. She also wore an emerald flower ring from Santi Jewels.
Kimmel was also criticised by Indian fans when he called the artists performing on the Oscar-nominated Telugu track “Naatu Naatu” as “Bollywood dancers”.
United Kingdom.- The Royal Institution of the British Commonwealth (CHOGM), led by the King Charles III and founded by the late Queen Elizabeth II, officially expelled her son and wife, the Dukes of SussexHarry and Meghan Markle.
This association is made up of just over 50 independent and semi-independent countries that maintain historical connections with the United Kingdom, and its leader has just expelled Prince Harry already Meghan Markle.

It must be remembered that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been causing controversy for a long time statements and statements against the crown British, who distanced themselves from the royal family since last 2020.
The real problem between royalty and the dukes arose after the youngest son of King Carlos III and the Diana Princess of Walesas well as Meghan Markle, they accused the crown of racism and to give favoritism some family members above others.

In fact, Prince Harry just released his autobiographical book and documentary with his wife on the platform Netflix where both explain all the injustices and things they experienced as part of the British royal family.
It is for this reason that the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II would have decided to punish both of them with something that really hurt them to lose, in this case it was being removed from their posts as President and Vice President of the Commonwealth.
It must be remembered that said association was created to discuss important issues that affected the same institution and the world in general.
As if this were not all, it is still not clear if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be invited to the coronation ceremony of Carlos III, where he will officially become the sovereign of the United Kingdom after the death of his mother.

Harry Brook has decided to put records to the back of his mind after admitting a couple crept into his thinking when falling 11 runs short of a fourth Test century. Had the 23-year-old got there on day one of the first Test in New Zealand, he would have become the second Englishman to do so in four successive matches – a feat Ken Barrington managed twice in the 1960s.
But despite saying he was aware of this possible slice of history during his seventh Test innings, and also seeing his latest tilt at beating England’s fastest Test century (76 balls) thwarted, Brook was still satisfied at stumps.
He said: “[Brendon McCullum] has mentioned the fastest century and I went for it a couple of times in Pakistan. It was in my head a bit today, but I need to get that out of the back of my mind and concentrate on getting a hundred. It’s disappointing, but I’m not that bothered now because I would have bitten your hand off before the game to get 89.”
Brook was not the only England batter to roll over his form from the 3-0 clean sweep in Pakistan in December, with Ben Duckett’s 68-ball 84 furthering his hopes of opening in this summer’s Ashes series.
The left-hander was viewed as a possible horses-for-courses selection for the Pakistan tour, his array of sweeps ideal for subcontinental conditions. But he played a largely orthodox innings against a four-pronged seam attack once England were inserted at the toss and he said the pace of his knock was not deliberate. “I just see ball, hit ball.
“I didn’t have any intention to try and score quickly – it just happened. They bowled full to me early on and I got off to a good start. I batted normally. I pride myself on hundreds, though, I was very disappointed with how I got out.”
Both men expanded on the decision by Stokes to declare nine down on the opening day of this day-night series opener, a move repaid in the final session as Jimmy Anderson and Ollie Robinson shared three precious wickets.
Brook said: “The best time to bowl is under these lights. You can extract the most amount of swing and seam, so why not try and expose their top order to that? There was no plan at dinner to declare though, me and Ben Foakes were still batting together at that stage and if I hadn’t got out the plan would’ve been the same. But because I got out, the plan changed.”

Duckett said: “We might have batted into [day two]. It was more of a tactical thing. But if anyone was going to do it, we were.”

A coin featuring Prof Albus Dumbledore has been launched as part of a Harry Potter-themed collection from the Royal Mint.
The collection was introduced in 2022 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
The new coin has the king’s portrait on the “heads” side, while two other coins in the collection feature the late Queen Elizabeth II. It is available to buy from the Mint’s website as a 50p denomination version as well as in other denominations.
Other coins in the collection feature Potter, the Hogwarts Express, and the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
So far, Harry Potter enthusiasts across 86 countries had bought coins from the range, the Royal Mint said.
Rebecca Morgan, the director of collector services, said: “We are delighted to be continuing our spellbinding Harry Potter coin collection with Professor Albus Dumbledore featuring on his very own 50p.
“The Royal Mint’s Harry Potter coin collection has seen a popular response among collectors worldwide, not only for the books being a global phenomenon, but due to the collection being one of a small number that will see a change of portrait during the series. The 50p coin featuring Professor Albus Dumbledore marks this change of portrait, with his majesty King Charles III’s official coin portrait now appearing for the first time in the series.
“This collection of coins serves as a permanent reminder of the fascinating transition from Britain’s longest reigning monarch to his majesty the king’s first appearance on UK coinage.”
Some of the coins in the collection are in colour and some have a “latent feature” that rotates in the light to reveal a lightning bolt and the number “25” to mark the anniversary year. Royal Mint used an advanced picosecond laser to imprint the intricate designs.
The coin series has been created in partnership with Bloomsbury Publishing, the Blair Partnership and Warner Bros Consumer Products.
Prices for the Dumbledore coin range from £11 for a brilliant uncirculated 50p and £20 for a colour version, to £5,215 for a £200 denomination gold coin.

London: Harry Kane struck a record-breaking 267th goal for Tottenham Hotspur, giving them a deserved victory over the Manchester City team in the Premier League on Sunday, despite being reduced to 10 men in the dying minutes of the match..
Harry Kane scored the only goal of the game in the first half when Tottenham pounced on a mix-up at the back to finish past Ederson. Kane scored in the 15th minute and set a record for the Spurs.
Kane also becomes the third player, after Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney, to score 200 Premier League goals.
The strike in the 15th minute was the best moment for Tottenham in a match in which City dominated and enjoyed 64% percent possession.
In comparison, the Spurs had nine shots off-target and three on-target. They were pulled up for 18 fouls as compared to 14 transgressions committed by Man City.
Despite dominating possession, City by their own stratospheric standards was in a minor shambles as they slumped to their fourth defeat of the season in top flight English football league in 21 matches. They now have 45 points as they trail leaders ARsenal by five points. The Gunners have 50 points from 20 games.
The Spurs, who had 34 percent possession, have 39 points from 22 matches. Manchester City had 10 shots off-target and five of them on target
On the field, Riyad Mahrez came closest to an equalizer just before half-time with a volley that smacked off the woodwork.
Spurs were reduced to 10 men in the dying minutes when Cristian Romero was sent off but the home side survived.
On the day Prince Harry’s controversial, headline-grabbing memoir Spare officially became the fastest-selling non-fiction book in history, the bookstore in his adoptive hometown in California did not move a single copy.
Indifference wasn’t the problem, although Montecito, the wealthy hillside community outside Santa Barbara where the Sussexes have made their home, is known for keeping its opinions of the royal couple close to its chest.
The much bigger issue was the weather.
The previous afternoon, a massive storm had dumped a foot of rain on California, the beginning of a week of dramatic “atmospheric rivers” and flooding across the state, and everyone was ordered to leave. With memories still fresh of a lethal storm exactly five years earlier, when mud and boulders sliding down from the mountains devastated areas of the town close to the creek and killed 23 people, it was perhaps understandable that locals had other things on their mind.
“I got a call from a reporter in England,” the owner of Montecito’s Tecolote bookshop, Mary Sheldon, recalled. “He asked me how many books we’d sold, and I said, ‘None – zero. We’re under evacuation.’”

More than a week later, the rain has stopped, the risk of mudslides has abated, but sales are still far from robust. Sheldon said she’d sold about 30 copies, with a few more reserved for customers who’d promised to fetch them in person. Even in a town that refuses to fuss over its many celebrity residents, the lack of buzz over a book that is flying off the shelves and dominating conversation just about everywhere else on the planet is remarkable.
Asked for her own thoughts on Spare, Sheldon said, simply: “It’s a book.”
And its celebrated local author? “He took time to gather his thoughts and wanted to publish it,” she observed, “so I am here to sell it.”
Sheldon was equally unmoved by the controversies surrounding the memoir. “I think most people up here think of it as a soap opera,” she remarked.
Spare’s underwhelming performance in Montecito, a town of 10,000 mostly well-read residents, is not necessarily a rebuke of the royal couple. It conforms, rather, to the unspoken code of silence that the town maintains around its celebrity residents, who also include Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Gwyneth Paltrow and the power couple Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom.
What they and Montecito’s other well-heeled residents prize most about the place is its privacy. Its sprawling estates, including the Riven Rock property where Harry and Meghan live, are hidden behind walls and two-storey-high hedgerows that keep the paparazzi out while still preserving picture-book ocean views.
Even in the more public areas of town – the rows of village shops and restaurants – the imperative is to leave everyone be regardless of who they are. The person standing in line at Pierre Lafond café or quaffing a pint at the Plow & Angel pub could be a retired Fortune 500 chief executive, a Texas oil baron visiting his second home, or the dissolute scion of a storied Scottish clan, but nobody will say a word about it.

“It’s a perfect place to live under the radar,” said Kelly Mahan Herrick, a real estate agent specialising in luxury properties.
Press the locals about Harry and Meghan and they will respond with platitudes, if they respond at all. “They’re mostly out walking their dog,” was as much as one neighbour would offer and still did not want to be identified by name. “They’re very quiet, lovely people.”
Scratch the surface a little and you might find out a little more. Locals say that Meghan has been spotted shopping at the Wendy Foster boutique, and the couple recently spent a night with friends at the Santa Barbara Bowl, an outdoor amphitheatre, to see Jack Johnson. More commonly, Harry is spotted on his own or with a bodyguard, riding his bike to the beach, or playing polo at the Santa Barbara Polo Club, or hiking one of the many mountain trails above the town.
The president of the Montecito Trails Foundation, Ashlee Mayfield, said one of her board members bumped into Harry in the mountains recently and the prince helped him move a tree that had fallen on to the trail. “I think he really wants to be a normal guy in town,” Mayfield said.
Mayfield said she wasn’t surprised that most residents preferred to keep quiet about the Sussexes and argued that the extreme weather of the past few years has only reinforced local resistance to the celebrity publicity machine that many come to Montecito to escape, however temporarily. “Life up here isn’t all about gates and money and celebrity,” Mayfield said. “There is a mutual respect and consideration because of what can happen and what we have lived through as a community.”
Les Firestein, a former Hollywood comedy writer turned local magazine editor, said many residents think of the royal family’s feuding as a remote curiosity, and having Harry and Meghan in their midst has done nothing to change that.
“For most Montecitans, if not most Americans, royal watching is like bangers and mash – it’s something we’ve heard of but isn’t really our culture,” Firestein said. “We don’t really notice Harry and Meghan, though sometimes the locals get rankled by the British tabloids trying to get to them.”
Finding a local who owns a copy of Spare is challenging – much less one who has finished it. “Didn’t read it, will not read it,” said TC Boyle, the short-story writer and novelist who is also Montecito’s most distinguished literary luminary.
The one person willing to discuss the book in detail was a British expatriate, Richard Mineards, who writes a gossip column for a local newspaper. His take after reading Spare from cover to cover?
“I think the whole thing is reprehensible,” he said, sounding a lot like the British tabloid newspapers he used to work for. “It is doing enormous harm not only to the royal family but to his own family, he and his wife… If he really does want to reconcile with his family in due course, why does he keep throwing bombs at them? Where do they go from here?”
It’s a poignant question. But if Harry and Meghan’s goal is to live a quiet life, maybe they’re just fine where they are in Montecito. Like many who end up here, they may never feel the need to go anywhere else at all.
