Srinagar, Mar 18: Former chief minister of erstwhile J&K state and National Conference (NC) vice president, Omar Abdullah on Saturday said that the present government in J&K is not for the people, but to appease the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Reacting to the Conman from Gujarat arrested in Srinagar, Omar while addressing a gathering in Kulgam, said that it is the worthlessness of the present government, who was busy in appeasing the fake conman from Gujarat.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), he alleged that it is the fourth such incident, adding that it has been heard that three have already left for their places.
“How worthless this government is. The conman was given security, chaired meetings of officers and also visited Line of Control in Uri. Without confirming from the PMO office, the administration was busy in appeasing the conman. This government is not for the people, but to appease PMO,” he said, adding that this is the difference between the present government and elected government—(KNO)

13 exam paper leaks in Gujarat in last 8 yrs, will Bandi ask for Modi’s resignation?: KTR

Hyderabad: BRS working president and IT & Industries Minister KT Rama Rao has slammed BJP state chief Bandi Sanjay over the TSPSC paper leak issue, saying that the former made ‘unfounded accusations’ against the state government without knowing that TSPSC is a constitutional body and the state has a limited role to play.
“This demonstrates the level of his ignorance,” KTR remarked.
KTR delivered a press statement here on Friday warning that Sanjay would soon be prosecuted for his ‘political plots’. He admonished the BJP leaders to refrain from ‘politicking’ the situation for their own personal advantage.
The BRS working president stated that by attributing one person’s error to the entire TSPSC, the BJP was attempting to incite ‘unrest’ among the youth who were out of jobs. Rama Rao recalled that Bandi Sanjay had made an appeal to the youth to quit their employment and cease studying for exams in order to campaign for the BJP.
The minister added that the saffron party lacked ‘moral standing’ to cast doubt on the BRS government’s resolve to help the unemployed and that there had been countless instances of paper leaks in numerous BJP-ruled states.
“In Gujarat, the state of Narendra Modi, 13 exam papers have been stolen during the past eight years. Does Bandi Sanjay have the guts to ask for Modi’s resignation?” he asked.
“How the government responds to an issue when it emerges is essential,” Rama Rao remarked, recalling how, as soon as the paper leak issue surfaced, the state government acted quickly, formed an SIT, and detained all the offenders.
“Although the occurrence was regrettable, the TSPSC has decided to cancel the Group-1 preliminary examinations in order to uphold justice and consider the future of all qualified candidates,” he said.

He reassured Telangana’s youth and students were reassured that they didn’t need to be concerned about the recruitment process.
He added that the BRS government had already demonstrated its commitment to the unemployed youth by filling up vacant positions and that the state government would take all necessary steps to achieve justice for each and every unemployed youth in the state.
“The State government established a new zonal system, unique to the rest of the nation, with the aspirational goal of delivering 95% of the jobs for Telangana’s youth as evidence of its dedication to their welfare,” he said.
He stated that Bandi Sanjay has previously used a similar style of irrational personal accusation in relation to the Intermediate exams without possessing even a basic understanding of how the government functions.

Gujarat Conman Manages Z+ Security Cover, Luxury Hotel and Access to Jammu Kashmir’s High Offices

SRINAGAR: Kiran Bhai Patel, a resident of Gujarat, who falsely claimed to hold a high position in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and had meetings with influential individuals in Jammu and Kashmir, has been formally arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police on March 3.

The arrest followed a day after the police registered a case of cheating and forgery at police station Nishat against the conman.
Patel had been posing as an additional director (strategy and campaign) in the PMO and was caught during his third visit to Kashmir, where he was staying at a luxurious Srinagar five-star hotel. He received a Z-plus security cover, an armoured SUV, and luxurious lodging, which raised suspicions when he arrived in Srinagar for the second time in two weeks without any prior VIP movement information available to security agencies.
The FIR, registered by Srinagar Police at Nishat Police Station, revealed that Patel had been using criminal means and forgery to carry out his activities within the jurisdiction of the police station and other parts of Kashmir. He had allegedly been involved in cheating gullible individuals and pursuing a well-conceived scheme to gain monetary and material benefits.
Patel had been booked under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the IPC at Nishat police station, and the police are currently conducting a thorough investigation. Pradipsinh Vaghela, the ruling BJP’s Gujarat General Secretary, is among 5000 people who follow Patel’s verified Twitter account.
His social media posts and pictures suggest that he had been leading a lavish lifestyle, staying at luxurious hotels and traveling in bulletproof cars.
In photos shared on various social media platforms, Patel can be seen at picturesque sites in Jammu and Kashmir, often in the company of armed personnel. One picture depicts him standing in front of Srinagar’s iconic clock tower, Lal Chowk.

In his maiden February visit, Patel visited health resorts. He interacted with officials at Doodpathri and discussed way and means of improved tourist footfalls from Gujarat. He was at Shankaracharya Tempe on February 22, Doodhpathri on February 27, Gulmarg on February 26, Ahrabal on February 23, according to the photographs and videos he posted on Twitter.
Patel’s Twitter bio states that he holds a doctorate from Commonwealth University, Virginia, an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management in Tiruchirappalli, a Master of Technology in computer science, and a Bachelor of Engineering in computer engineering. The police attempted to detain him at the airport, but he had already left in his bulletproof car for the hotel.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the security protocols in place and the ease with which an individual can impersonate a high-ranking government official and gain access to sensitive information and influential individuals. After being taken for a ride, now the authorities say they will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and take appropriate action to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
So far, the investigation has reportedly revealed that Patel had been operating a well-conceived scheme to defraud unsuspecting individuals and companies, promising them government contracts and other benefits in exchange for monetary and material gain. He had reportedly created fake letters and documents, which he used to dupe his victims.
The police have also discovered that Patel had been in touch with several influential individuals, including politicians, businessmen, and bureaucrats, during his visits to Jammu and Kashmir. He had even managed to secure appointments with some of them, claiming to be representing the Prime Minister’s Office.
According to sources, Patel’s activities had come to the attention of the security agencies after he arrived in Jammu and Kashmir for the second time in two weeks without any prior VIP movement information available to them. The police attempted to detain him at the airport, but he had already left in his bulletproof car for the hotel.
The police seized several electronic devices, including laptops and mobile phones, during the search of Patel’s hotel room. They are currently analysing the data to gather more information about his activities and the individuals he had been in touch with.
Report said two cops may face action for extending the hospitality without verifying the details. A media report said they had got information from some IAS officer.

Godhra train burning case: SC to hear pleas of Gujarat govt, convicts on March 24

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday said it will hear on March 24 the appeal of the Gujarat government and the bail pleas of several accused who are serving life imprisonment in the 2002 Godhra train burning case.
A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices P S Narasimha and J B Pardiwala, meanwhile, directed the counsel for the Gujarat government and the convicts to provide a soft copy of the consolidated chart containing details such as actual sentences awarded to them and the period spent in jail till now.
The bench adjourned the hearing after it was apprised that Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the state government, was then unavailable.
“We will have it on Friday,” the bench said.
On February 20, the state government had told the top court that it will be seeking award of death penalty to 11 convicts whose sentences in the 2002 Godhra train burning case were commuted to life imprisonment by the Gujarat High Court.
“We will be seriously pressing for award of death penalty to the convicts whose death penalties were commuted into life imprisonment (by the Gujarat High Court). This is the rarest of rare cases where 59 people, including women and children, were burnt alive,” the solicitor general had said.
“It is consistent everywhere that the bogey was locked from outside. Fifty-nine died, including ladies and children,” he had added.
Giving details, the law officer had said 11 convicts were sentenced to death by the trial court and 20 others granted life term in the case.

The high court upheld total 31 convictions in the case and commuted the death penalties of the 11 convicts to life term, Mehta had said.
On February 27, 2002, 59 people were killed when the S-6 coach of the train was burnt at Gujarat’s Godhra, triggering riots in the state.
The state government has come in appeal against the commutation of death penalty into life term for 11 convicts, Mehta said. Several accused, he added, have filed pleas against the high court upholding their convictions in the case.
The top court has granted bail to two convicts in the case so far. Seven other bail pleas are pending adjudication in the matter.
The bench noted that a large number of bail applications have been filed before it in the case and said, “It has been agreed that the AORs (advocates-on-record) on behalf of applicants along with advocate Swati Ghildiyal, standing counsel for Gujarat, shall prepare a comprehensive chart with all relevant details. List after three weeks.”
The Supreme Court had on January 30 sought the Gujarat government’s response on the bail pleas of some of the convicts sentenced to life imprisonment in the case.
The court issued notice to the state government on the bail pleas of Abdul Raheman Dhantia alias Kankatto and Abdul Sattar Ibrahim Gaddi Asla, among others.
The state government, on the other hand, said it was not “merely a stone pelting” case as the convicts had bolted a bogey of the Sabarmati Express, leading to the death of several passengers on the train.
“Some are saying their role was just stone pelting. But when you lock a bogey from outside, light it on fire and then pelt stones, it is not just stone pelting,” the solicitor general had said.
On December 15, last year, the top court granted bail to Faruk, who was serving a life sentence in the case and noted that he had been in jail for 17 years.
Faruk, along with several others, was convicted for pelting stones at a coach of the Sabarmati Express.

Asaram files appeal in Gujarat HC against conviction in rape case

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court on Thursday admitted to hearing an appeal filed by self-styled godman Asaram against a recent trial court order convicting him of rape.
The Gandhinagar sessions court in January this year sentenced Asaram to life imprisonment in a rape case, based on a complaint filed by a former woman disciple in 2013.
A division bench of Justices S H Vora and Mauna Bhatt heard the appeal briefly on Thursday and admitted it for final hearing.
The sessions court convicted Asaram of rape, unnatural offences and wrongful confinement.
A woman disciple from Surat had alleged that Asaram raped her on several occasions between 2001 to 2007 at his ashram at Motera near Ahmedabad. The 81-year-old `godman’ is currently serving a life sentence in a Jodhpur jail in another case where he was accused of raping a girl at his ashram in Rajasthan in 2013.
In its order, the Gandhinagar court noted that Asaram sexually abused a victim who was younger than his daughter.
“The accused committed a very serious crime against society and such a heinous crime cannot have any place of sympathy and should be punished to the fullest extent prescribed by law…It becomes the moral responsibility not only of the society but also of the court to set an example and prevent such behaviour,” Additional Sessions Judge D K Soni noted in the order.

11 sanitation workers died in Gujarat in 2 yrs while cleaning sewers: Govt to Assembly

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government on Thursday informed the Legislative Assembly that eleven sanitation workers have died of asphyxiation while cleaning drains in different parts of the state during the last two years.
While seven of them, who entered into blocked sewer lines to clean them, died between January 2021 and January 2022, four sanitation workers lost their lives between January 2022 and January 2023, Gujarat Social and Justice and Empowerment Minister Bhanuben Babariya said during Question Hour in the Assembly which is having its budget session.
She was responding to a question raised by Congress MLA Imran Khedawala, who sought to know the status of compensation to be paid to the kin of the deceased.
Babariya told the House the government has already paid Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the kin of each of the 11 sanitation workers who died of asphyxiation.
When senior Congress MLA Shailesh Parmar sought to know whether the state government gives jobs to the kin of deceased conservancy workers as per guidelines of the Supreme Court, the minister said the issue was under consideration.
All urban local bodies as well as panchayats have been directed by the government to strictly follow the provisions of the ‘Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013’, she said.
“Despite our best efforts to see that no worker is asked to go inside sewer lines and all guidelines are strictly followed, some private contractors hire workers from other states and ask them to enter into drains, which leads to tragedy. Even if a worker belongs to another state, we pay compensation to the kin (in case of death),” she said.
The minister further said the government has already set up an organisation, Gujarat Safai Kamdar Development Corporation (GSKDC), for upliftment and rehabilitation of sanitation workers.

The corporation provides cheap loans as well as subsidies on such loans so that sanitation workers can take up some other work or start business. It also provides financial assistance up to Rs 50,000 to private sanitation workers to buy safety equipment, said Babariya.
To prevent any untoward incident while cleaning sewers, sanitation workers of municipal corporations, municipalities and panchayats are given different types of safety equipment, such as jetting machine, suction instrument, hydraulic trolley, drainage cleaning device, breathing masks, full body suits and gas detection gadget, she added.

Gujarat univ cancels seminar after ABVP opposes participation by Jamia prof

Vadodara: The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU) here on Wednesday cancelled a seminar after members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) objected to the participation by a professor from Jamia Millia Islamia university.
Zubair Meenai, the professor, is “a communist and known for making anti-India comments,” claimed a leader of the ABVP, a student organization affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
MSU’s Faculty of Social Work had organized the seminar on ‘Respecting diversity through joint social action’ on its campus on Wednesday afternoon.
As per the invitation, one of the invited speakers was Prof Meenai of the Department of Social Work, Jamia Millia Islamia university, New Delhi.
But soon after the event started, ABVP members reached the spot and started shouting the slogan ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, compelling the organisers to cancel the event.
In a video which went viral, ABVP members can be seen confronting the Dean of the Faculty of Social Work, Dr Bhavna Mehta.
When one of the ABVP members asked why they invited Meenai `who is known for making anti-India comments,’ Mehta said he was invited as an academician.
ABVP members then asked Mehta not to invite such people in the future.
Mehta was not available for comments.

“Meenai is a communist and known for making anti-India comments. He even made such comments against (late RSS ideologue) Nanaji Deshmukh. How come the Faculty did not find a worthy academician in Gujarat to speak on the subject that they had to invite him? ABVP will never tolerate such persons who have the anti-India mindset,” said Dhruv Parekh, the ABVP’s MSU unit president.

Ban on loudspeakers in mosques: Gujarat HC seeks state govt’s reply

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court has sought the state government’s reply on a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a ban on the use of loudspeakers for reciting azaan’ (call to prayer) in mosques.
A division bench of Acting Chief Justice A J Desai and Justice Biren Vaishnav on Monday allowed Shaktisinh Zala, a Bajrang Dal leader, to join the PIL after the original petitioner Dharmendra Prajapati sought to withdraw it citing threats.
Zala’s lawyer urged the court to allow him to join the litigation in the absence of the original petitioner.
The court listed the matter on April 12 while directing the government to file a reply.
The PIL has sought a ban on the use of loudspeakers for azaan’ at mosques in Gujarat claiming that they add to noise pollution and violate the fundamental rights of citizens.
The petitioner said a muezzin at a mosque in his neighbourhood uses a loudspeaker to recite azaan’ five times a day, causing “great inconvenience”.

Gujarat: 2 held from MP for call spoofing pro-Khalistan message ahead of Ind-Aus Test

Ahmedabad: Two persons were arrested from Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh by Gujarat police in connection with a bulk video and voice message released allegedly by a pro-Khalistan group threatening to storm Narendra Modi Stadium ahead of the India-Australia cricket match that started on March 9 in Ahmedabad, an official said on Sunday.
Ahmedabad police’s cyber crime cell traced the origin of the message to a facility set up in Rewa in the neighbouring state for call spoofing and arrested two persons from there, the official said.
The bulk message, urging people to stay safe at home as a pro-Khalistan group planned to storm the cricket stadium and install its flag, was released ahead of the India-Australia cricket match that was witnessed by Prime Minister Modi and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese.
“We have arrested two persons from Rewa district and busted a facility set up there for call spoofing. We traced the threat video message from the facility and recovered 11 SIM boxes, around 300 SIM cards, 4-5 routers,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime) Jitendra Yadav said.
He identified the accused as Rahul Kumar and Narendra Kushwaha, who hail from Satna in MP.
“The threat was issued on a recorded message, and the call is jumped, spoofed in such a way that it becomes difficult to locate them. We have busted the centre from where the call was being spoofed. Further investigation will reveal who all are behind the recorded message,” Yadav said.
The messages, released purportedly by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, founder of US-based terrorist organisation ‘Sikhs for Justice’, threatened to disrupt the cricket match, with police saying it was aimed at creating panic among people.
“People of Gujarat, stay home and stay safe on March 9 (the day of opening of match between India and Australia) because pro-Khalistani Sikhs are going to storm Narendra Modi stadium and install Khalistani flag,” said message relayed through bulk messaging and mass voice call.

This was received by a number of people on their phones, as per police.

Gujarat Assembly passes resolution against BBC for docu on 2002 riots

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Assembly on Friday passed a resolution requesting the Centre to take strict action against BBC for tarnishing the image and popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with its documentary on the 2002 riots in the state.
The controversial two-part series by the British Broadcasting Corporation titled ‘India: The Modi Question’ misrepresents the events of 2002 in a malicious and low-level attempt to tarnish India’s image globally, Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Vipul Patel said in the House while moving the resolution.
The documentary claims to have probed certain aspects of the riots, which took place after the Godhra train burning incident when Modi was Gujarat’s chief minister.
The documentary was banned in India soon after its release.
Patel’s resolution was supported by BJP MLAs Manisha Vakil, Amit Thaker, Dhavalsinh Zala and minister Harsh Sanghavi.
It was passed by voice vote in the absence of Congress MLAs who were expelled from the House earlier in the day.
After passing the resolution unanimously, Speaker Shanker Chaudhary said the attempt by BBC is “reprehensible” and is “condemned vehemently,” adding the House passed the resolution to send its message to the Centre.
“India is a democratic country and freedom of expression is at the core of its Constitution, but that does not mean a news media can act by abusing such freedom,” said Patel while moving the private-member resolution in the second sitting of the House.

“If someone behaves or acts like this (BBC), then it cannot be taken lightly. BBC is losing its credibility and seems to be working with some hidden agenda against India and the Indian government. Hence, this House requests the Central government to take strict action against the mind-boggling findings shown in the BBC documentary,” Patel said in the Assembly.
Through the documentary, there is a deliberate attempt to “tarnish the image and popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi” with an agenda to affect the country’s intention to find top place globally, Patel said.
He claimed opposition parties in other countries support the government during such times, but this is not the case in India, which allowed international organisations like the BBC to get the strength to carry out activities against the country.
The Nanavati-Shah Commission concluded after a thorough investigation the burning of coaches S6 and 7 of Sabarmati Express at Godhra on February 27, 2002, was a premeditated conspiracy, and that the state-wide riots that followed were spontaneous, Patel said.
The Nanavati-Shah Commission found no evidence the state government, religious organization, or political party played any role in the riots, and attempts to make the then chief minister (Modi) and officials responsible have also failed in the courts, Patel asserted.
Supporting the resolution, BJP MLA Vakil said the intention of the documentary was to tarnish India’s global image, adding Modi’s life has been a journey of courage and compassion.
As the chief minister and prime minister, he has become the most popular world leader, she said.
On the 2002 riots, she said certain NGOs and activists conspired to defame the Gujarat government and wanted to damage Modi’s reputation, adding there was a larger political conspiracy of destabilising the state government by hook or crook.
Vakil referred to the Supreme Court verdict on the Zakia Jafri case giving clean chit to Modi and claimed the BBC documentary was “mere international propaganda which is totally biased and showcases the colonial mindset”.
Supporting the resolution, Thaker said Modi is not a question but a solution for various issues plaguing the world today, such as climate change and COVID-19 pandemic, etc.
The BBC is in the habit of making controversial documentaries on subjects in India, Thaker alleged.
He also questioned the timing of the documentary by connecting it with the conclusion of Congress ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ led by Rahul Gandhi.
Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi said the documentary was not just against Modi but against 135 crore citizens of the country.
“The resolution brought by Vipul Patel for strict action is historic. ..Is it Modi’s fault to realise the dream of making Gujarat a riot-free state? Many forces worked to ensure Gujarat does not get a stable government,” Sangahvi said in his speech in the House.
He said “so-called intellectuals” started hurling one allegation after another on Modi after he took over as the prime minister.
“As 2024 (Lok Sabha polls) approaches, they (opponents) have no other issue against Modi. They used BBC to make a documentary,” Sanghavi said.
He also criticised social activist Teesta Setalvad and said “truths regarding her have not been shown in any documentary”.
Sanghavi also quoted “important people” who have commented and criticised the BBC documentary such as the Indian foreign ministry spokesperson, British parliamentarian Bob Blackman, and former BBC head Mark Tully.
The Gujarat minister compared the BBC documentary to the “toolkit” conspiring against India, adding certain sections of the media suffered from “Modi phobia”.
