Hassan: Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda on Thursday hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for calling JD(S) a B – team of Congress party.

Speaking to reporters in Arsikere town of Hassan district in Karnataka, Deve Gowda stated, it does not suit the standards of a tall leader like PM Modi to talk lightly about JD(S) party. “PM Modi has ruled the country as the Prime Minister for almost 10 years. I feel that PM Modi talking about our party was uncalled for,” he said.

“I have never thought that PM Modi would say something dubbing JD(S) as B-team of Congress. PM Modi is reiterating Rahul Gandhi’s statement in the last assembly election. There is no difference in the statements of both the leaders,” he claimed.

Rahul Gandhi had claimed that JD(S) is the B-team of BJP.

The party should not have brought the tall leader such as PM Modi to the level of Rahul Gandhi, Deve Gowda stated. PM Modi and Amit Shah are proclaiming that voting for JD(S) is equivalent to voting for Congress party.

Former chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Deve Gowda’s son, had stated that the charishma and image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come down and his aggressive campaign won’t have any impact in the Karnataka assembly elections.

Kumaraswamy stated, after nine years, the image of PM Modi has come down. The national leaders from New Delhi are coming to to the state for election campaigns. They should have come when the people of the state were in distress. “They did not come then, now arriving,” he taunted.

Now, PM Modi is coming down in Karnataka and waving at people in roadshows. What is the contribution of BJP to Kalyana Karnataka region? Ten years have passed since the verdict of Krishna River Tribunal. What has been done by Congress and BJP? Kumaraswamy asked.

PM Modi claims that Congress and JD(S) have done injustice to farmers? He should tell what injustice has been done to farmers? They did not give instalment of Fasal Bima Scheme, now Modi claims they are giving water at doorsteps. In which village Jal Jeevan Mission is successful? Kumaraswamy questioned

Karnataka polls: With son in hospital, JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda takes up campaigning

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: In the absence of his son H.D. Kumaraswamy who has been hospitalised with exhaustion symptoms, JD(S) leader and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda has taken up full-fledged election campaigning at the age of 89 years in Karnataka against the doctors’ advice.

Kumaraswamy has been hospitalised with exhaustion symptoms following a hectic campaigning schedule. He took up the challenge against the campaigning blitzkrieg of two national parties single-handedly. He is strategising for the party from the hospital.

To make up for his son’s absence at this crucial juncture, Deve Gowda, who is not physically fit to take up campaigning, has decided to pitch in for the party.

  • Did Uri, Nanje Gowda Kill Tipu Sultan?

Did Uri, Nanje Gowda Kill Tipu Sultan?

    [ad_1]

    By Anuj Rayate

The current era is marked by some great stories, which are brought to us by the means of cinema, TV, or OTT platforms. The over-sensitization of information, especially the one in a historical context, has greatly blurred the lines between fact and fiction. What started to make rounds following the portrayal of minor blends in history to serve a popular narrative has now led to the creation of a fictional character in an untrue story.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, which has been notorious for using the methods of pop culture to colour (or de-colour) the image of several Indian historical figures, has again found itself in an embarrassing situation over the matter of gross historical inaccuracy.

Days after a journal in the United States named the BJP as the most important foreign political party, the Karnataka wing of the party created two fictional characters and gave them the ‘credits’ of killing the former ruler of the erstwhile state of Mysuru Tipu Sultan.

Tipu Sultan has been a conflicted historical figure in the last few years in India. On different occasions, he is made to stand against different historical figures, in an attempt to demean his value in the context of Indian history. Several pieces of misinformation have been used by the party in power To propagate hatred against the ruler. However, it reached its peak when two fictional characters, which were created as recently as 2022, were made to look like those responsible for the death of Tipu.

In an attempt to woo the voters of one of the most important demographics of the state, the Vokkaligas, the BJP introduced Uri Gowda and Nanje Gowda. But who are these Gowda brothers?

In 1997, celebrated writer Girish Karnad wrote a play titled ‘Tipu Sultan Kanda Kanasu’ (The Dream of Tipu Sultan). The writer based the play on the Farsi manuscript which was written by Tipu Sultan himself. It documents the dreams of the ruler from 1785 to 1799.

As a ‘response’ to the play written by Karnad, Addanda Cariappa, former actor, singer, a member of the Kendra Sahitya Academy, and the former Director of the cultural institute of Rangayana, wrote another play in 2022 by the name ‘Tippu Nija Kanasugalu’ (The Real Dreams of Tipu). It was this play that introduced the two fictional characters of the Gowda brothers.

The play was promoted in a way to tell people about the ‘true character’ of the former Mysuru king. After staging the play, a book regarding the same matter was also published. It is the book that got the entire controversy started.

After the book got published, a writ petition was filed in a Karnataka court by BS Rafiullah, the former Chairman of the District Wakf Board Committee, seeking a stay on the play and the book. The reason given by Rafiulla for the stay was that it was hurting the Muslim sentiments and “it contains wrong information without any support or justification from history”. The court put a stay order on the book but allowed the play to continue.

    BJP and the Fictional story

The controversy regarding these two characters resurfaced ahead of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the poll-bound state of Karnataka.  Ahead of his visit, four arches were erected on the route, and one of them was that of these two characters.

The fact that the banner of two imaginary characters was put up is not even the most absurd part of the story. The volunteers used pictures of the Maruthu brothers on the banner. These two brothers were the rulers of the Sivaganga kingdom fought against the British and were publicly hanged to death in 1801.

The attempt to spread extremely wrong and incorrect propaganda by the BJP crosses the line when a minister and a film producer from the state, Muniratna announced that he will be making a film on these two Vokkaliga chieftains. He also claimed that the movie will be scripted by the Higher Education Minister Dr. CN Ashwath Narayan. However, the film was soon halted after the issue came to light. Nirmala Swami Adichunchanagri Mahasamsthana Mutt also called out the false propaganda by the BJP, to increase polarisation before the elections.

As of now, the film stands halted, and the BJP’s attempt to spread disinformation seemingly failed.

  • Karnataka: Guided by Deve Gowda, JD-S eyes prospect of playing kingmaker

Karnataka: Guided by Deve Gowda, JD-S eyes prospect of playing kingmaker

    [ad_1]

Bengaluru: As the national parties — BJP and Congress — are ruling out JD-S as a competitor in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly polls, 89-year-old former Prime Minister and JD-S supremo H.D. Deve Gowda has declared that “he will bring his party to power no matter what”.

Former Chief Minister and Deve Gowda’s son H.D. Kumaraswamy has even claimed that both the national parties will have to come to his doorsteps after the elections.

The JD-S, once a force to reckon with in the state, is now confined to south Karnataka. The Vokkaliga vote bank, from which it derives power, is likely to divide, as after 20 years, state Congress President D.K. Shivakumar, who hails from Vokkaliga community, has a good chance of becoming the Chief Minister.

The ruling BJP in the state is trying to persuade the voters to its fold to achieve a majority in the Assembly elections. Though the BJP made it to power, the party has failed to get a simple majority in the state elections. Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent programme in Mandya, considered as the power centre of Vokkaligas, was aimed at impressing upon the voters of the region.

The JD-S has launched “Pancharatna Yatra” to reach out to the people across all districts of the state. The Yatra is receiving good response from the crowd and political analysts say that it would be interesting to see whether these large crowds will get translated to votes during elections.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had paid a visit to Deve Gowda’s residence, while Kumaraswamy had also gone to Hyderabad to participate in events of Bharat Rastra Samithi (BRS). Insiders claim that both, JD-S and BRS, come to an understanding over the Assembly polls and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Reacting to Shah’s visit to Mandya and its outreach to the Vokkaliga community in south Karnataka, Kumaraswamy reiterated that Mandya is a strong fortress of the JD-S and his party will win all seven segments in the district. “There will be no impact (of Shah’s visit) whatsoever,” he stated.

Ruling BJP has installed a 108-foot-tall statue of Bengaluru founder Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda in the premises of the Bengaluru International Airport. Also, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has performed ground worship for the building of statues of Kempe Gowda and social reformer Basavanna in the premises of Vidhana Soudha (state Assembly) recently. However, Kumaraswamy had ridiculed the attempts, saying that the BJP cannot impress the people by building statues.

In December 2022, the JD-S has announced the first list of candidates for 93 assembly constituencies. Kumaraswamy stated that the leaders would get enough time to reach out to the people ahead of polls.

JD-S leader and spokesperson, Raju Gowda stated that Kumaraswamy’s Pancharatna Yatra is evoking “very good response and a new trend is being created in the state”.

Sources explain that when compared to national parties, the committees and digital publicity is lacking. The party insiders also say that the Pancharatna Yatra is turning out to be a one man show.

However, political analysts say that the JD-S has the ability to emerge like a dark horse and with its limitations, can also emerge as a king maker by winning about 30 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections.
