UP civic polls: Adityanath says BJP govt ‘put Aligarh lock’ on riots in state

    [ad_1]

Aligarh: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said the double-engine government of the BJP has “put an Aligarh lock” on riots in the state.

Campaigning for the second phase of urban local body polls in Aligarh, which is famous for its locks, Adityanath hit out at opposition parties for promoting “tamancha (countrymade pistol) culture” in the state.

The chief minister also held public meetings in Budaun, Shahjahanpur and Bareilly, and talked about law and order and development in his speeches in these districts.

“The double-engine government of the BJP has put an Aligarh lock over riots in the state and made UP riot-free,” Adityanath said in Aligarh.

“Double-engine” is a term often used by BJP leaders to refer to the party ruling at the Centre and in a state.

In an apparent reference to the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party, the CM said people with ‘parivarvadi’ (dynastic) and ‘jaativadi’ (casteist) mindset gave ‘tamanchas’ to the youth after coming to power.

“We changed this tamancha culture and provided tablets to two crore youths,” he said.

Adityanath said Aligarh is known all over the world for its locks and the BJP government is working towards its revival.

“The lock industry (of Aligarh) will be given a global platform with the help of one district one product initiative,” he said.

“Taala (locks), taaleem (education) and tehzeeb (culture) of Aligarh were once its identity. But the casteist mindset of the dynastic parties has shut down the lock industry of Aligarh, and created obstructions,” he said.

“These casteist and dynastic parties have nothing to do with education and culture. They adopted the policy of divide and rule and used it to divide society on the basis of appeasement. They made an effort to increase the gulf in society. As a result of this, there was an atmosphere of fear among the people even during festivals,” Adityanath said.

Aligarh will vote in the second phase of the urban local body polls on May 11. The counting of votes will take place on May 13.

Adityanath said people of the state were forced to face curfews for a long time.

“But today, you are seeing Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh and India transforming. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the perception about India has changed, and Indians are seen with respect wherever they go,” he said.

“What could not be achieved in the last 60-65 years has been done in nine years. The government has worked hard to put an end to terrorism, Naxalism and separatism in the country,” he said.

Referring to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Adityanath credited the efforts of the BJP’s double-engine government to resolve a 500-year-old dispute.

“Today, Kashi Vishwanath Dhaam is being constructed in Kashi, whereas Mathura and Vrindavan are being decorated. Along with this, beautification of Naimisharanya, Vindhyavasini Dham, Lalapur of (sage) Valmiki and Rajapur of Tulsidas (both in Chitrakoot) is also underway,” he said.

The CM also said that a memorandum of understanding has been signed with the Airports Authority of India for the building of an airport in Aligarh.

“We are going to connect it with air service and for the extension of the airport, Rs 700 crore has already been released,” he said.

“In addition, construction of the four-lane highway from Ghaziabad to Kanpur via Aligarh is going on at a fast pace,” Adityanath said, adding that a power plant is being set up at Harduaganj which will make Aligarh the centre of energy production.

The chief minister also said that the BJP’s double-engine government has named a university after Maharaja Mahendra Pratap Singh, who fought for the country’s independence and also donated land for the Aligarh Muslim University, although there is no “shilapat (nameplate) of his in the AMU”.

Addressing a rally in Badaun, Adityanath said till six years ago, dynastic parties used to give pistols to the youth.

“The youth are becoming self-reliant as we are combining talent of Uttar Pradesh with technology and training. As a result of this, UP is rapidly becoming the growth engine of India’s development,” the CM said.

In Shahjahanpur, he said that festivals have replaced nuisance and disorder in the state of today. “The atmosphere of fear and panic is over now. People celebrate festivals peacefully and with joy. Now there is no curfew, instead Kanwar yatras are taken out peacefully,” he added.

In Bareilly, the CM said the city earlier known as a garbage dump has turned into a smart city. “Bareilly has an airport. Four-lane and six-lane roads are being constructed,” he said.

Telangana govt owes explanation on ORR leasing: Kishan Reddy

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Union Minister for Tourism and Culture G. Kishan Reddy on Sunday found fault with the Telangana government for leasing out Outer Ring Road (ORR) to a private party for just Rs 7,380 crore for a period of 30 years, saying this deprived the state of Rs 75,000 crore revenues.

He said the state government owes an explanation to people as awarding of toll collection, operation and maintenance of the ORR to a private agency for 30 years on Toll, Operate and Transfer (TOT) basis would result in a huge loss of revenue to the state.

He told a news conference that the state government selected IRB Infrastructure Developers Limited in the bid in a predetermined manner and in violation of the guidelines of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

    MS Education Academy

Kishan Reddy explained that the private agency will collect toll for 30 years on ORR after paying only Rs 7,380 crore to the government.

He pointed out that so far Eagle Infra was collecting Rs 415 crore as toll on ORR for Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) every year.

“If this toll collection increases by 5 per cent per year, HMDA would have earned Rs 30,000 crore for 30 years. Experts and engineers say the 10 per cent increase would mean a revenue of Rs 75,000 crore during the same period. If we assume a 15 per cent increase, the revenue for the government would be over Rs 2.08 lakh crore,” he said.

Stating that Hyderabad is the fastest growing city in the country, the Union Minister said the toll revenue on ORR would only go up.

He wondered why the BRS government which had been opposing privatisation gave ORR on lease for 30 years. Taking a dig at Chief Minister KCR, he asked if this was the qualitative change he wanted to bring.

“The government should tell people for whose benefit this decision was taken,” he said.

He questioned the need for awarding the contract for 30 years when most of the roads are leased for a maximum period of 10 years.

The Union Minister alleged that BRS took the decision as it has realised that it will lose power in Telangana.

Yemeni govt, Houthis clash in Taiz, causing multiple casualties

    [ad_1]

Aden: Clashes broke out between government forces and Houthi militia in Yemen’s southwestern governorate of Taiz, resulting in multiple casualties, a government military official said to Xinhua.

The conflict, which lasted for several hours, was triggered by an attempted infiltration by Houthi fighters into positions held by Yemeni government forces on the eastern outskirts of Taiz province, said the local military source, who requested anonymity, on Saturday.

The government forces successfully repelled the Houthi assault, resulting in the death of four Houthi fighters and injuries to five others, the official confirmed, adding that two soldiers from the government side lost their lives during the fighting, Xinhua news agency reported.

    MS Education Academy

The Houthi group has yet to respond to the conflict.

The recent fighting in Taiz coincides with attempts of regional and global powers to make headway in diplomatic endeavours towards restarting negotiations between the warring factions in Yemen, with the aim of renewing a prior humanitarian truce that was facilitated by the UN.

Yemen has been embroiled in a civil war since late 2014, when the Houthi rebel fighters invaded a number of northern provinces and drove the Yemeni government out of the capital city of Sanaa.

The years-long military conflict has resulted in a dire humanitarian situation in Yemen, with millions needing assistance and access to basic necessities.

  • Like Karnataka, Cong should also expose scams of previous BJP govt in Rajasthan: Pilot

Like Karnataka, Cong should also expose scams of previous BJP govt in Rajasthan: Pilot

    [ad_1]

Jaipur: Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Saturday referred to the party’s aggressive campaign in the Karnataka polls targeting the BJP over corruption to raise his old demand of exposing “scams” of the previous BJP government in Rajasthan, saying people will then “have faith that we do what we say”.

He said he has been raising this issue for the last one-and-a-half years.

“I had written letters for one-and-a-half years and I had urged for concrete action in the allegations of scams we had made during the BJP rule. I held a one-day fast in Jaipur too. I am repeatedly urging that strict action should be taken in this so that people have faith that we do what we say,” he told reporters in Barmer.

    MS Education Academy

Pilot said the Congress is raising the corruption issue in Karnataka and so the scams of the former BJP government should also be highlighted in Rajasthan.

“We are accusing the BJP government in Karnataka of taking 40 per cent commission and people are believing it. That is why I say that time has come to expose the corruption that took place in Rajasthan during the BJP rule. We will have to live up to the commitment we had made,” he said.

The former Rajasthan deputy chief minister had last month sat on fast here, piling pressure on his own party by targeting the Ashok Gehlot government in the state for “inaction” in alleged cases of corruption when the BJP was in power.

Pilot also took a jibe at former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, saying “I never said that there is any collusion (between Gehlot and Raje). People are unnecessarily giving their clarification.”

Pilot said he just wants the truth to come out.

“Facts should be brought to the fore by getting the allegations made by us to be investigated by a sitting or retired judge of the high court,” he said.

A few days ago, Raje had rejected allegations of collusion with Gehlot as lie, saying milk and lemon juice never mix.

Earlier, while addressing a programme organised by Forest Minister Hemaram Chaudhary, Pilot said he will continue his fight against corruption even if “some people” do not like it.

“Corruption is like a termite which is making the country hollow,” he said, adding “We have to raise our voice against loot and corruption in the country and state.”

Gehlot and Pilot have been in a power tussle in the state since the Congress formed the government in December 2018.

Pilot once again targeted his party’s government in the state over the paper leak issue, saying the hard work put in by students goes in vain if an exam gets cancelled.

“Our children work hard for years, their parents pay for tuition to make them study… they give exams but the question paper gets leaked and the exam gets cancelled, don’t we feel sad?” he said.

In January, Pilot said when incidents of paper leaks are happening one after the other, accountability will have to be fixed.

He also backed the protest by women wrestlers at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, saying “Today, our girls are sitting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, they have alleged exploitation… for how many more days will we not feel their pain?”

He further said people with good conduct and good thinking should enter politics and the voters should choose such leaders.

“Everything can change but there is a need to take steps. All dreams can come true but there is a need to take everyone along,” he added.

Pilot on this occasion inaugurated ‘Virendra Dham’ hostel and statue of minister Hemaram Chaudhary’s late son Virendra Chaudhary who died in 2015.

  • Big News: State Govt Issues Shoot At Sight’ Orders, More Troops Developed In The State – Kashmir News

    [ad_1]

State Govt Issues Shoot At Sight’ Orders: The Manipur government has issued “shoot-at-sight orders” as a last resort to control the situation amid spiralling violence in the state between tribals and the majority Meitei community which has displaced over 9,000 people from their villages.

Clashes first broke out on Wednesday in Churachandpur town after tribal Kuki groups called for protests against a proposed tweak to the state’s reservation matrix, granting scheduled tribe (ST) status to the majority Meitei community. Violence quickly engulfed the state where ethnic fault lines run deep, displacing thousands of people who fled burning homes and neighbourhoods.

The violence didn’t abate till late on Thursday evening even as thousands of army and paramilitary personnel fanned across the state, marching through the deserted streets of the state’s violence-hit towns to restore peace, and evacuating at least 9,000 people.

The Indian army in statement late on Thursday said that the situation in the towns of Moreh and Kangpokpi was stable and had been brought under control.

Here are 10 facts on this big story:

    1. The Manipur government on Thursday issued “shoot at sight” orders in “extreme cases” after violence in the state spilled over to Imphal. Rapid Action Force (RAF) was flown in and 55 army columns were deployed to contain the spiraling violence.
    2. According to sources, Centre is rushing additional troops to the state. The Indian Air Force (IAF) will airlift forces from Guwahati and Tezpur in Assam. Former CRPF chief Kuldeep Singh has been appointed as the security advisor for Manipur while senior IPS officer Ashutosh Sinha made the overall commander overseeing the peace restoration operations in the state.
    3. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will not be travelling to Manipur today. Mr Shah on Thursday spoke with the chief ministers of Manipur and its neighbouring states and held meetings with top central and state bodies through video conferencing to review the situation in the state.
    4. Although the government is yet to confirm the number of lives lost, if any, or how many have been injured in the clashes, over 9,000 people from various districts have been evacuated and given shelter in special camps. Around 5,000 have been shifted to Churachandpur, another 2,000 people were shifted to Imphal Valley, and 2,000 people to the border town of Moreh.
    5. “The government is taking all measures to maintain the law and order. We are committed to protecting the lives and property of all our people,” Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said on Thursday.
    6. In the wake of the violence, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday directed officials to evacuate students of his state studying in various schools and colleges in Manipur.
    7. The violence began on Wednesday during protests by various tribal groups of Manipur over a court order on Scheduled Tribe status.
    8. The All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) called a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ in Torbung area of Churachandpur district to protest against the non-tribal Meitei community’s demand for a Scheduled tribe status. According to the police, thousands took part in the rally during which violence broke out between some tribal groups and non-tribals.
    9. The Meitei, who are the majority in the state, primarily inhabit the Manipur valley. The Meitei’s claim that they are facing difficulty in view of “large-scale illegal immigration by Myanmarese and Bangladeshis”. As per existing law, the Meiteies are not allowed to settle in the hill areas of the state.
    10. Given the volatile atmosphere in the state, internet services have been suspended across the state till Monday, train operations have been stopped and curfew imposed in non-tribal dominated Imphal West, Kakching, Thoubal, Jiribam and Bishnupur districts and tribal-dominated Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal districts.
