Impose President’s Rule in Telangana: Sharmila requests Governor

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Telangana party (YSRTP) leader Y S Sharmila on Saturday appealed to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan to impose President’s Rule in the State

She submitted a memorandum on ‘The Worsening Law and Order Situation in Telangana’ to the Governor here on Saturday.

Speaking to the media, Sharmila attacked chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao and accused him of dishonoring democracy and crushing the fundamental rights of the people.

“We are worried that it is impossible to hold fair and impartial elections under this evil regime. KCR has let his goons loose on opposition parties, while the police watch in silence. Therefore, we demand that President’s Rule be imposed,” alleged Sharmila.

The YSR party leader said during her interaction with the Governor, the latter expressed concerns about the prevailing situation and assured her to consider the option.

“Where is friendly policing, I wish to know. It is only friends with the BRS. No one from parties to people is supposed to raise their voices. Since this is the election year, the number of attacks is only growing by the day,” Sharmila alleged.

Reiterating her previous statements of comparing the state government to the Taliban, she said, “Is this Afghanistan and are you a Taliban? Just like how stray dogs are attacking children on streets, the BRS goons are attacking us like beasts.”

“There is no democracy in the state. While the Indian Constitution is followed across the country, KCR’s constitution runs in Telangana. The chief minister and his BRS colleagues are allergic to opposition parties’ interacting with the disgruntled masses, and so are unleashing terror and violence against the parties that are fighting for the people,” Sharmila alleged.

She claimed that “the whole state has turned into a battlefield, from village to town.”

“Broad daylight murders, attacks on women, and brutality against tribals and farmers, the list is endless,” she alleged.

Telangana Governor calls on family of medico who attempted suicide

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Thursday visited Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) to enquire about the condition of a Post Graduate student of Kakatiya Medical College who attempted suicide by administering herself lethal injection due to alleged harassment by her seniors.

She spoke to doctors about the girl’s condition which remained critical. The student has been kept on a ventilator.

Soundararajan also met the family members of Dharavathi Preethi. She later told the media that it is unfortunate that this has happened to a medical student.

The Governor said a senior doctor harassing the girl student was appalling. She also stated that medical students should be brave. She revealed that the incident is being probed from all angles.

She earlier enquired with the Vice Chancellor of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences about the condition of the student.

Preethi, a first year student of the Post Graduate (MD) in the department of Anaesthesia of the Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) in Warangal attempted suicide on Wednesday, allegedly due to harassment by a senior.

Director of Medical Education Ramesh Reddy, who visited NIMS earlier in the day, told media persons that doctors were doing their best to save the student.

The official clarified that no ragging took place at KMC. He said the student who attempted suicide had some problem with a senior and counseling was held for both by the college authorities.

Ramesh Reddy said KMC has formed a four-member committee to conduct an inquiry. “We will take action after receiving the report of the committee,” he said.

MGM Hospital superintendent Dr V Chandrasekhar has constituted a committee comprising four professors to conduct the inquiry. It will submit a report to the Director of Medical Education.

  • TN Min lashes out at Governor Ravi over Raj Bhavan remarks on jawan’s killing

TN Min lashes out at Governor Ravi over Raj Bhavan remarks on jawan’s killing

    [ad_1]

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Minister K Ponmudy on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on R N Ravi over the Raj Bhavan’s remarks on the killing of an army jawan and also over the Governor’s comments about Karl Marx.

Ponmudy, the State Higher Education Minister, took exception to the Raj Bhavan making remarks on the jawan killing with a “political viewpoint.”

Lance Naik M Prabhu of Krishnagiri district was earlier attacked by a DMK councillor and some others and he succumbed to the injuries, and the Raj Bhavan had on Tuesday put out a tweet on its official Twitter handle saying the killing was a matter of “serious concern.”

While the state police was firmly dealing the matter legally (the DMK councillor has been arrested), “one has to consider that putting out Twitter messages on the Raj Bhavan’s official handle with a political viewpoint is nothing but a mischievous act,” Ponmudy said in a statement.

He said Prabhu was killed in a domestic dispute but the BJP was making it an issue for “media publicity.”

The protest by some ex-servicemen here on Tuesday, with the support of the BJP’s state unit was part of this where some of the former army men made objectionable remarks, Ponmudy alleged.

While the Raj Bhavan had highlighted the meeting of the ex-servicemen with the Governor and their plea on Twitter, “when will it reveal the status of the Assembly bill banning online gambling,” he asked.

The bill was reflective of the united voice of the people of the State, he added.

Referring to Ravi’s criticism on Karl Marx, Ponmudy said Marx’s communism proposed equality and argued against discrimination of any kind and that this would certainly be a “bitter pill” for many.

Ravi was “behaving like a child” in a Constitutional post and this amounts to “insulting” the Constitution.

He should stop putting out social media messages like a politician and focus on his work, the Minister added.

He also recalled the recent controversy surrounding the Tamil Nadu vs Tamizhagam name debate triggered by Ravi and referred to the public outcry, even as he charged the Governor with repeatedly making remarks not conforming to the Constitution and its provisions.

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy gave a warm send-off to outgoing Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan and his wife at the Gannavaram airport here on Wednesday.

The outgoing Governor and his wife later flew to Raipur.

On February 12, the Centre appointed Harichandan as the governor of Chhattisgarh.

Housing Minister Jogi Ramesh, AP Agri Mission Vice Chairman MVS Nagi Reddy, Chief Secretary Dr K.S. Jawahar Reddy, DGP KV Rajendranath Reddy, Legislative Council Chairman K. Moshen Raju, senior officials and people’s representatives accompanied the Chief Minister to the airport to see off the outgoing Governor and his wife.

Former Supreme Court judge Justice S. Abdul Nazeer has been appointed as the new Governor of Andhra Pradesh.

Justice Nazeer, who hails from Karnataka, was on the Constitution bench of the Supreme Court that delivered verdict in Ayodhya case.

He had served as Karnataka High Court judge and was elevated as Supreme Court judge in 2017.

NCW summons BRS MLC for derogatory remark against Governor

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned Telangana legislator Padi Kaushik Reddy to appear before it on February 21 in connection with his alleged derogatory remarks against Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.

Taking suo motu notice of the foul language used by Kaushik Reddy, a Member of Legislative Council (MLC), the commission asked him to appear before it in person.

The women’s panel stated in an official communication that the remark is dangerous and demeaning to her dignity.

The commission also made it clear in its notice dated February 14 that if he fails to appear, the commission would take necessary action.

Kaushik Reddy had allegedly made derogatory remarks against the Governor for not giving assent to the Bills sent to her for approval by the state government. He used foul language while commenting that the Governor was deliberately sitting on the Bills.

Akula Srivani, a BJP corporator in Greater Hyderabad, had lodged a police complaint against the MLC on January 28. She urged the Saroornagar police to take action against Kaushik Reddy for using abusive, vulgar and unparliamentary language against the Governor.

On January 26, the video clip of Kaushik Reddy using the abusive word in Telugu went viral on social media.

He had made the remark amid a rift between Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

The differences between the BRS government and the Governor had first cropped up in 2021 when she did not approve the Cabinet’s recommendation to nominate Kaushik Reddy to the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota in social service category.

When the Governor delayed clearing the file, the BRS government sent Kaushik Reddy to the Upper House under the Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) quota.

  • Kari Lake loses appeal in Arizona governor race challenge

Kari Lake loses appeal in Arizona governor race challenge

    [ad_1]

    election 2022 arizona governor 06038

The appeals court wrote Lake’s appeal failed because the evidence supports the conclusion that “voters were able to cast their ballots, that votes were counted correctly, and that no other basis justifies setting aside the election results.”

Shortly after the ruling, Lake tweeted: “I told you we would take this case all the way to the Arizona Supreme Court, and that’s exactly what we are going to do. Buckle up, America!”

Lake, who lost to Hobbs by just over 17,000 votes, was among the most vocal 2022 Republicans promoting former President Donald Trump’s election lies, which she made the centerpiece of her campaign. While most of the other election deniers around the country conceded after losing their races in November, Lake did not.

Lawyers for Lake focused on problems with ballot printers at some polling places in Maricopa County, home to more than 60% of the state’s voters. The defective printers produced ballots that were too light to be read by the on-site tabulators at polling places. Lines backed up in some areas amid the confusion.

County officials say everyone had a chance to vote and all ballots were counted since ballots affected by the printers were taken to more sophisticated counters at the elections department headquarters.

Lake’s attorneys also claim the chain of custody for ballots was broken at an off-site facility, where a contractor scans mail ballots to prepare them for processing. They claim workers at the facility put their own mail ballots into the pile, rather than returning them through normal channels, and also that paperwork documenting the transfer of ballots was missing. The county disputes the claim.

Hobbs’ attorneys said Lake was trying to sow distrust in Arizona’s election results and offered no proof to back up her allegations of election misconduct.

Lake faced extremely long odds in her challenge, needing to prove not only that misconduct occurred, but also that it was intended to deny her victory and did in fact result in the wrong woman being declared the winner. In her appeal, her lawyers argued a trial court judge applied the wrong standard of proof in deciding the case.

Hobbs took office as governor on Jan. 2.
