Telangana: Complaint filed against BRS MLC for remarks on Governor

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Members of the BJP Mahila Morcha (BMM) here on Friday lodged a complaint with the chairperson of the Telangana State women’s commission against BRS MLC Kaushik Reddy for using “obscene language” against Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan.

Kaushik Reddy had passed comments against the Telangana Governor for delaying the signing of bills passed by the state legislature, the video of which has gone viral. “According to K. Geetha Murthy, state president of the BMM, the video which has become viral on social media, shows Kaushik Reddy uttering derogatory phrases in Telugu targeting the governor on the issue.

In the viral video Kaushik Reddy reportedly said, “Today you are speaking, I am asking which Constitution is the Governor following. KCR government is elected by people and all MLAs and MLC is has passed the bills and you are keeping them under your buttocks.” BJP and the BMM has since then condemned his statements.

“As the governor is the constitutional head and the first citizen of the state, due respect should be given to the post and when the post is adorned by a lady, due respect has to be given while addressing her. As the language used by Mr Kaushik Reddy is very derogatory and used to demean the governors dignity intentionally and consciously, BJP Janata Mahila Morcha request your authority to take cognizance of the attendance of the said MLC and suitable action be taken that lest anybody, leave alone the ruling party representatives, resort to such heinous behaviour,” wrote Geetha Murthy in her complaint.

Telangana MLC’s abusive language against Governor sparks big row

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: A legislator of Telangana’s ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) kicked up a storm on Thursday by using abusive language while targeting Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan for sitting on the Bills passed by the legislature.

The video clip of P. Kaushik Reddy, a member of the state Legislative Council, using the abusive word in Telugu went viral on social media, evoking condemnation.

It was immediately not clear where and when Kaushik Reddy was speaking. The use of unparliamentary word by the MLC surfaced on Republic Day when the Governor indirectly attacked Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao during her speech.

The differences between the BRS government and the Governor had first cropped up in 2021 when she did not approve the Cabinet’s recommendation to nominate Kaushik Reddy to the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota in social service category.

When the Governor delayed clearing the file, the BRS government sent Kaushik Reddy to the upper house under the Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) quota.

Meanwhile, the BJP has reacted strongly to the use of abusive word by Kaushik Reddy against the Governor. BJP national Vice President D. K. Aruna demanded that the Chief Minister immediately suspend him from the party.

Aruna said if the Chief Minister failed to act on the insult to a woman Governor, the BJP would stage state-wide protests.

‘New buildings are not for development, nation building is’: Telangana Governor

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said that everyone should have an equal share in development while addressing the Republic Day event on Thursday at Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad.
The Governor unfurled the national flag which was followed by the national anthem.

Soundararajan while addressing the event stated, “Chairman of the drafting committee of our Constitution BR Ambedkar said there must not be a class that has got all the privileges and a class that has got all the burdens to carry.”

“New buildings are not for development, nation building is for development,” Soundararajan said.

“All the farmers and the marginalised people should have farms and houses, few should not have farmhouses. That is not the development. Everyone should have an equal share in the development,” added Soundararajan emphasising the importance and meaning of development in her speech.

The Governor also paid respect to the freedom fighters and the members of the Constituent Assembly. She said, “There were great personalities and stalwarts of great intellect, wisdom and vision in our constituent assembly.”

  • BBC documentary on PM is conspiracy against India: Goa Governor

BBC documentary on PM is conspiracy against India: Goa Governor

    [ad_1]

Panaji: A BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the 2002 Gujarat riots that has sparked controversy is a “conspiracy” against India, said Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Thursday.

The “character assassination of the prime minister” amounts to an onslaught, insult and a malicious act against the country, said the governor during his address after inspecting a Republic Day parade near Panaji.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has criticised the documentary titled “India: The Modi Question” as a “propaganda piece” that lacks objectivity and reflects a colonial mindset.

Governor Pillai said that the present controversy was “ill-motivated”, adding in the same breath that he was “not criticising Britain which is one of the friendly countries of India now”.

Unlike a common citizen who can approach the court in case of character assassination, the PM, President, Vice President and ministers have to be represented by public prosecutors in such cases, he said. “This means character assassination of the Prime Minister amounts to an onslaught, an insult, a malicious act against the country. That is why I would like to say BBC’s present act is not good,” he said.

The governor said that the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is not an independent organisation. “It is answerable to British Parliament. I am not blaming the British government but there’s some conspiracy against India,” he said.

Pillai said that he does not want to go much into the present circumstances but after PM Modi “became the head of the G20 group”, he has given a call for “one world, one family, one future”.

India has taken over the presidency – which rotates annually between members – of the Group of Twenty countries.

Talking to reporters later, the governor said that under the system of law followed by “us and the conventions”, an attack or character assassination of the PM would amount to an attack on the sovereignty of the country.

In this case, the governor, the “attack” on the PM is also a challenge to the Indian Judiciary. “Indian Judiciary is the finest in the world. They had monitored this case (Gujarat riots) and there is nothing to connect the PM to it, not even a whisper is against him,” he said.

  • Timeline of Maharashtra Governor Koshyari’s remarks that triggered controversy

Timeline of Maharashtra Governor Koshyari’s remarks that triggered controversy

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Here is a look at Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s statements that triggered controversy, leading to the announcement by Raj Bhavan on Monday that he wants to quit the post.

Addressing a gathering in November last year, Koshyari said Chhatrapati Shivaji was an ‘icon of olden times’ and personalities like Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar to Nitin Gadkari were the modern icons of the state.

“Shivaji is an icon of the old era; I am talking about the new era. You will find (icons) right here. From Dr Ambedkar to Nitin Gadkari, you will find them here,” Koshyari had said.

In July last year, Koshyari said Mumbai would not remain the financial capital of the country if Gujaratis and Marwaris were removed from the city. His remark drew criticism from several opposition parties, with former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray saying it is time to show him the famous Kolhapuri chappal.

While inaugurating new buildings of the Mumbai University, the Maharashtra Governor had urged the varsity vice-chancellor to name the new international students’ hostel after freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

During a programme in Aurangabad in March last year, Koshyari said Samarth Ramdas was the guru’ of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. “Many maharajas and chakravartis (emperors) were born on this land. But who would have asked about Chandragupta had there not been Chanakya? Who would have asked about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had there not been Samarth (Ramdas),” said Koshyari.

A video of Koshyari went viral in March last year in which he is seen mocking the child marriage of social activists Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule. Savitribai got married at the age of 10 to Jyotirao, who was then 13. “Now imagine, what would the boy and girl have been doing after marriage. What would they have been thinking?” the Governor had said.

Uddhav Thackeray, when he was Maharashtra chief minister, accused Koshyari of being overactive, and pointed out that the Governor had not filled 12 vacant seats in the state Legislative Council despite the state government’s recommendation.

In November 2019, Koshyari administered oath of office to Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar as Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister in a shock early morning swearing-in ceremony, amid BJP-Shiv Sena tussle over the CM’s post.
