  • Anantnag, Pulwama Declared TB Free, Srinagar Gets Gold

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: Anantnag and Pulwama districts have achieved tuberculosis-free status under India’s sub-national certification program for TB elimination, officials said here on Tuesday.

Dr Adfar Qadri, the State Tuberculosis Officer, informed the news agency KNO that Anantnag and Pulwama districts have been declared tuberculosis-free, adding two more districts to the list.

She announced that Srinagar was awarded the gold medal, while the Union Territory received the bronze, and the majority of other districts have maintained their current status. Additionally, she proudly stated that the region now has three districts with TB three status, with Budgam having achieved this status in 2021.

“Kashmir received three gold medals last year, and now we have achieved an even higher level of success with the declaration of Pulwama and Anantnag as tuberculosis-free.” She added.

“TB incidence is declining in Kashmir. We will achieve TB elimination by 2025 as we are doing intensified and active case finding and case screening,” she said.

Notably, there are 4 categories of recognition in achievement of reduction of case targets, the top spot being TB-free status meaning 80% reduction.

The other categories include gold medal category (over 60% reduction), silver medal category (over 40% reduction) and bronze medal category (over 20% reduction).

Budgam was the first district to be declared TB free. Sub-national certification is an initiative to mark the progress of districts, states and UTs towards TB free status, which was initiated in 2020 to achieve the target of TB free India by 2025. (KNO)

Keerthy Suresh gifts gold coins to 130 members of ‘Dasara’ unit

Hyderabad: Keerthy Suresh, who plays the female lead in the upcoming Nani-starrer ‘Dasara’, gifted 130 gold coins of 10 grams each to each unit member on the last day of shooting for the film. At current prices, her gesture should have cost her anywhere between Rs 70 lakh and Rs 75 lakh.

  • Gold chains worth Rs 4.90 lakh stolen in Bageshwar Dham godman’s congregation

Gold chains worth Rs 4.90 lakh stolen in Bageshwar Dham godman’s congregation

    [ad_1]

Thane: In a bizarre crime spree, thieves apparently lurked freely among thousands of devotees, including women, at a 2-day spiritual congregation addressed by self-styled ‘guru’, Dhirendra Krishna Shastri at Mira Road town and targetted many women attending.

According to the Mira Road police, after the 26-year-old Shastri’s discourses ended, at least three dozen women have lodged complaints of their gold chains being stolen during the two-day congregation.

As per the complaints, the victims have lost their gold chains, mostly ‘mangalsutras’, weighing between 5 gm to 25 gms, either made in pure gold or with other metals.

The Mira Road Police have pegged the total value of the stolen booty at a staggering Rs 4,87,000!

The event of Shastri – which had sparked off a political row here – was held at the sprawling Salasar Central Park grounds, attracting more than 200,000 devotees, including a large number of women.

At one point, due to poor management, it led to a near-stampede on Saturday in which one woman devotee was injured after which the local police had started security checks and crowd control at the entry points to the venue.

Many women had been lured by Shastri’s purported “miracles” and “healing powers”, and had come in hopes of some cure, but some returned not only disappointed but minus their gold chains/mangalsutras, said an official.

The organisers, the Shantaben Mithalal Jain Charitable Trust, had invited Shastri – the head priest of Bagesgwar Dham in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur – for the event even as some rationalist groups had opposed it and written to police not to grant permission.

Besieged with so many complaints, the Mira Road Police have lodged a common FIR for the first three dozen women victims, and are scanning the CCTV footage of the venue to identify the chain-snatchers in the huge crowds and catch the culprits.

Gold rates in Hyderabad, other cities cool down after reaching all-time high

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Providing a much-needed relief to the gold buyers, the yellow metal rates today dipped in Hyderabad and other cities. Yesterday it reached an all-time high due to the banking crisis in the US and Europe.

Amid the banking crisis, investors are moving their funds toward gold which is considered a safe haven.

The gold rates in Hyderabad for 24-carat and 22-carat that reached to Rs 60320 and Rs 55300 per 10 grams respectively yesterday dropped to Rs 59780 and Rs 54800 per 10 grams today.

    Gold rates on MCX

On MCX, the yellow metal hit Rs 60000 for the first time on Monday. However, it later started trading at around Rs 59,700 mark.

Apart from the banking crisis, rising inflation and a hike in interest rates are also responsible for the rise in gold rates in Hyderabad and other cities.

The banking crisis was triggered by Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank and now Europe’s Credit Suisse.

It is expected that the gold rate of 24-carat can reach Rs 60500 per 10 grams.

In the current month itself, the gold rates increased by over 6 percent.
