Gold rates in Hyderabad reach near all-time high

Hyderabad: Gold rates in Hyderabad and other cities in India on Friday climbed to a near all-time high. The rates of 24-carat and 22-carat gold reached Rs. 60, 0000, and Rs. 55, 0000 respectively.
In the current month, the rates of the yellow metal saw nearly a seven percent jump.
In the international market, gold rates reached nearly USD 2000 per ounce. There are speculations that it may breach the all-time high of USD 2072 per ounce.
Reasons for rise in gold rates in Hyderabad
Market experts attribute the rise in gold rates in Hyderabad and other Indian cities to the softening of the US dollar rate and the slipping of the dollar index below 102 levels.
Additionally, the collapse of two regional banks in the US and the crisis in a Swiss bank have also contributed to the increase in gold rates in the international market.
The Federal Reserve’s decision on interest rates has also played a key role in the fluctuation of gold rates.
Rates depend on demand and supply
As gold is also a commodity, its rates depend on demand and supply. During times of uncertainty, the rates of the yellow metal increase drastically as investors consider it a safe haven.
However, during market boom periods, its rates return to normal as investors start exploring options that can give them higher returns when compared to gold.

Gold is not only seen as an investment option as many people purchase the yellow for weddings, festivals, and other occasions.
With the rise in gold rates in Hyderabad and other Indian cities, it is likely that the demand for yellow may decrease in the short term.

Hyderabad: Gold worth Rs 13.72 lakh seized at RGIA

Hyderabad: The Air Intelligence unit of Hyderabad Customs has intercepted a passenger at RGI Airport who arrived from Dubai via Muscat and seized gold from him.
On suspicion, the officials searched the baggage of the passenger and found two gold rods weighing 224 gms concealed in the handle of the trolley bag. The gold seized is valued at around Rs. 13.72 lakh rupees.
Customs officers have seized the smuggled gold. Further investigation is in progress.

Hyderabad: The air intelligence unit of Hyderabad customs intercepted a passenger at the RGI airport and seized 224 gms of gold worth Rs. 13.72 lakhs from him.
According to reports, the accused arrived from Dubai via Muscat.
On suspicion, the officials searched the passenger’s baggage and found two gold rods hidden in the handle of the trolley bag. The passenger was arrested and a case has been registered.

Passenger at Hyderabad airport who hid gold paste in rectum arrested

Hyderabad: The Air Intelligence unit of customs on Tuesday morning intercepted one male passenger coming from Dubai by flight EK-524 to Hyderabad who had concealed gold in the form of paste in his rectum.
On searching the passenger it was found that 3 capsules of gold in paste form weighing 840 gms (appx 51.24 lakhs value) were found concealed in his rectum. The passenger was immediately arrested as per provisions of the Indian Customs Act, 1962.
Meanwhile, another Indian male passenger who arrived from Dubai on flight no 6E 1466 in the early morning was also intercepted by customs officers. On searching the baggage of the passenger, two gold bars weighing 233 gms (appx value 14.23 lakhs) were found concealed between Tuna Fish oil tins kept in the check-in bags.

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday congratulated boxer Nikhat Zareen on winning the gold medal in the 50 kg category finals of the Women’s World Boxing Championship in New Delhi.
Extending best wishes, he noted that Zareen, who won the gold medal with a 5-0 win over Vietnam’s boxer Nuyen, is a proud child of Telangana.
KCR, as Rao is popularly known, said that Zareen with her successive victories has once again demonstrated India’s popularity worldwide.
He said that it is a great moment that she won the second gold medal in her career in the world championship. He claimed that the Telangana government is committed to the development of sports and the welfare of sportspersons by encouraging them and will continue efforts in this direction.

Both Zareen and Borgohain made it a golden Sunday for India at the Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi.
While Zareen won the gold in the 50 kg category, Borgohain clinched the yellow metal in the 75 kg category.

Zareen registered a 5-0 victory in the final bout against Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam to claim India’s third gold in the tournament before Lovlina Borgohain won the summit clash against Australia’s Caitlin Parker with a split 5-2 verdict.

New Delhi: India’s boxing sensation Nikhat Zareen defeated Nguyen Thi Tam of Vietnam 5-0 in the final to win her second Women’s World Championships gold medal, here on Sunday.
Nikhat started her bout in attacking mode. She didn’t let Thi Tam to settle and landed a rally of punches to win the first round 5-0.
The second round also went in favour of the Indian.
Third round was a tough one, as Thi Tam gave her all but she was given a count when Nikhay punched her on her face. Thi Tam, too, managed to land one punch on Nikhat which stunned the entire stadoum.
The referee gave a count to Nikhat. The match continued and the Indian proved a little ahead in the round and was declared winner.

AP: Gold worth Rs 7.48 crore seized by Vijayawada Customs

Vijayawada: The Customs Commissionerate in Vijayawada seized 12.97 kilogram of gold worth Rs 7.48 crore and nabbed four individuals during a special operation, officials said on Wednesday.
According to officials, the gold was being smuggled to Andhra Pradesh.
The operation involved interception at multiple locations across the state where the customs officials got hold of carriers of smuggled gold who were travelling in different modes of public transport.
Four individuals carrying the precious yellow metal were arrested under provisions of the Customs Act 1962 and further investigations are on.
According to a release, the customs officers seized 12.97 kg gold, estimated to be worth Rs 7.48 crore.
“The gold seized predominantly included gold whose foreign markings were deliberately defaced to try and camouflage the smuggled nature of the gold,” it added.
