    Amaravati: A police constable was feted by the Andhra Pradesh government for gallantly rescuing a woman who jumped into the Godavari river to commit suicide recently.

    Andhra Pradesh director general of police (DGP) K. V. Rajendranath Reddy felicitated constable Angani Veerababu from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district on Monday for this act with a cash award as well.

    “Veerababu’s name has also been recommended for Prime Minister’s Police Medal for Life Saving’,” said an official in a statement on Monday night.

    According to the police, Veerababu was proceeding to attend his maternal grandmother’s final rites on Friday evening when he noticed a woman jumping from the Yedurlanka bridge into the gushing Yanam Godavari river.

    He immediately jumped into the river estimated to be gushing over a depth of 40 feet to rescue the woman and handed her over to parents.
    A video of Veerababu’s heroic act went viral.

    Hyderabad: The water board here has decided to postpone Godavari main pipe works here for 24 hours in view of Holi on March 7 and 8. The decision has been taken to avoid inconvenience to the general public as water supply will be affected in many areas. The HMWSSB will begin work on the pipeline from March 9 and arrangements for the same will be made in the next 48 hours.

    According to Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) managing directr, Dana Kishore, the Godavari main 3000 mm diameter pumping main pipe line bridge passing – bypassing and interconnection works will be taken up at Kukunoor Palli in Siddipet district as part of the Godavari Drinking Water Supply (GDWSS) phase-1. The line supplies fresh water to Hyderabad.

    Junction works on the Godavari main pipe line should be done there without disturbing the construction of the railway line which is being newly constructed by the South Central Railway at Kukunoorpally, said the HMWSSB managing director. The HMWSSB MD also directed the officials to complete the work within the stipulated time and restore the water supply and ensure that there is no inconvenience to the people.

    The water board has also requested the public to store water and to use it sparingly for the three days from March 9 to 11 that supply will be affected. The following are the areas that will be affected and not have any supply until the works will be completed by the HMWSSB:

    1. O&M Division No.12 (Qutbullapur) : Shahpur, Chintal, Jeedimetla, Vani Chemicals, Jagadgirigutta, Gajula Ramaram, Suraram.
    2. O&M Division No.13 (Malkaz Giri/Alwal) : Defense Colony.
    3. O&M Division no. 19 : Nagaram/ Dammai Guda, Keesara.
    4. O&M Division no. 24 (Bollaram) : Ring Main-3 Online Supply.
    5. O&M Division no. 25 (Kompally) : Kompally, Gondla Pochampally areas.
      Areas of RWS of Take: Kondapaka (Janagama, Siddipet), Prajnapur (Gajwel), Aler (Bhuvangiri), Ghanpur (Medchal/ Sameerpet), Cantonment Area, MES, Turkapally Biotech Park.
    6. O&M Division no. 14 (Uppal) : Periphery areas of Capra Municipality.
      Areas of Partial Disruption:
    7. O&M Division no. 6 (S.R. Nagar) : Borabanda, Venkatagiri, Banjara Hills Reservoir Areas, Erragadda, Ameer Pate, Ellareddy Guda, Yusuf Guda.
    8. O&M Division no. 9 (Kookat Pally) : KPH B, Malaysian Township Reservoir Areas.
    9. O&M Division no. 15 (Serilingam Pally): Areas from Lingampally to Kondapur, Gopal Nagar, Mayur Nagar, Reservoir areas.

    Hyderabad: Eight trains were cancelled after the derailment of Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad Godavari Express (12727) between Bibinagar-Ghatkesar station in Secunderabad division on Wednesday.

    The South Central Railway (SCR) has declared the cancellation and partial cancellation of certain trains which was supposed to travel through the connecting roots where the incident took place and has further requested cooperation from the citizens.

    Cancelled trains

    Those travelling between Kacheguda – Nadikude, Nadikude – Kacheguda, Secunderabad – Warangal, Warangal -Secunderabad, Warangal – Hyderabad, Secunderabad – Guntur, Guntur – Secunderabad and Secunderabad – Repalle were cancelled.

    Partially cancelled trains

    Trains between Sirpur Kaghaznagar – Secunderabad, Secunderabad – Guntur, Vijayawada – Secunderabad, Secunderabad – Vijayawada, Bhadrachalam Road – Secunderabad, Guntur – Vikarabad, Vikarabad – Guntur, Warangal – Secunderabad, Miryalaguda – Kacheguda, Kacheguda – Miryalaguda, Guntur – Secunderabad and Secunderabad – Sirpur Kaghaznagar were partially cancelled.

    Hyderabad: A woman pushed her two children into the Godavari river in Telangana on Monday before jumping into it to die by suicide.

    The shocking incident occurred in the Basara town of Nirmal district. The police pulled out all three bodies with the help of swimmers.

    The woman, identified as Manasa (27) pushed her son Baladitya, 8, and daughter Navasri, 7, into the river near the ghat where devotees offer Ganga Harathi.

    Police found school bags and empty tiffin boxes near the ghat. The woman is believed to have served food to the children before killing them.

    She along with the children arrived from Nizamabad. After alighting from a bus at Godavari bridge, they reached the river bank.

    Police registered a case and took up an investigation. They suspect that the woman may have killed the children and committed suicide due to family problems.
