Rishi Sunak: ‘We’re giving it everything we’ve got’ on Brexit deal

LONDON — Rishi Sunak insisted Saturday he wants to “get the job done” on Brexit, promising he was “giving it everything we’ve got” to secure a deal with Brussels.

In an interview with the Sunday Times, the British prime minister said he was hopeful of a “positive outcome,” as he launched a weekend media blitz, burnishing his Brexiteer credentials, and reassuring potential critics his deal “should command very broad support, because it ensures the free flow of trade within the United Kingdom’s internal market, it secures Northern Ireland’s place in our Union and it ensures sovereignty.”

Both sides continue to insist a deal to resolve the ongoing tension over Britain’s post-Brexit trading arrangements, which see Northern Ireland continue to follow some EU laws to get round the need for checks at the U.K.’s border with the Republic of Ireland, is not yet done, but could come within days if negotiators are able to close the remaining gaps.

Sunak, who himself backed Britain’s departure from the European Union in 2016, has been trying to win support from the Democratic Unionist Party and the hardline Brexit-supporting European Research Group in Westminster.

“I’m a Conservative, I’m a Brexiteer. And I’m a Unionist,” Sunak told the Sunday Times. “There’s unfinished business on Brexit and I want to get the job done,” he added.

Separately, in a piece for the Sun on Sunday, Sunak wrote: “There’s still more work to do but we have made promising progress recently and I’m determined to do right by the people of Northern Ireland and deliver for them.”

SRK shares words of motivation for 10th, 12th class students giving board exams

    [ad_1]

Mumbai: Shah Rukh Khan motivated 10th and 12th-class students who are giving their board exams.

On Monday, the ‘Pathaan’ actor conducted an #AskSRK session on Twitter, where he answered his fan’s questions.

When a user asked him about to give few words of motivation for students of 10th and 12th who’ll face board examination in the next few weeks.

SRK replied, “Study as hard as you can. Do not get anxious. I used to carry a placard in the school march past…’do your best and leave the rest’ just don’t stress. All the best.”

CBSE Board exams 2023 for classes 10 and 12 got underway across the country.

The examinations of Class 10 and Class 12 are being held from February 15 to April 5, according to an official release from CBSE.

CBSE has made elaborate arrangements for the conduct of examinations in India and in 26 countries abroad to ensure that all the important information for the conduct of examinations is communicated to all responsible officials at the examination centres. CBSE has circulated detailed guidelines to all the stakeholders to ensure that the students are appearing in the examinations without any stress.

Apart from responding to tweets related to Pathaan’s success and upcoming projects, Shah Rukh also addressed questions related to his personal life.

Meanwhile, on the work front, SRK is busy shooting for Atlee’s directorial ‘Jawan’. He recently headed to Pune for the film’s shoot. The film, which also stars Nayanthara, is all set to hit the theatres on June 2 in five languages – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

It is billed as an event film with high-octane action sequences. Shah Rukh’s production company Red Chillies Entertainment has produced it. In June 2022, SRK unveiled the film’s teaser which opened with a glimpse of the Northern Lights over mountain tops.

Apart from ‘Jawan’, SRK also has Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Dunki’. The film marks SRK’s first collaboration with Taapsee Pannu.

Giving Sisodia time will allow him to tamper with evidence: Congress

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Congress’ Delhi unit President Chaudhary Anil Kumar on Sunday said that it was shocking that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has allowed Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to evade its summons for questioning on his claim that he was busy with the Budget.

He alleged that giving one week time will allow Sisodia to tamper with evidence, adding that the CBI has reportedly collected damning evidence against him in the multi crores scam after questioning his Personal Secretary and he should not have been allowed to evade questioning.

“Why did the Kejriwal Government scrap the new liquor policy as soon as the Lt. Governor ordered a probe into the liquor scam on a Delhi Congress complaint if there was no corruption and irregularities in the implementation of the revised liquor policy in which Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is the mastermind?” Anil Kumar asked.

If Minister Satyender Jain could be denied bail for a money laundering case for nearly a year, how could the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate allow Sisodia to roam freely as he has committed fraud to the tune of thousands of crores, he added.

The Congress has demanded Sisodia resign or else he should be sacked as Minister till he gets a clean chit.

  • RSS ruling country giving scant regard to constitutional values: Pinarayi Vijayan

RSS ruling country giving scant regard to constitutional values: Pinarayi Vijayan

    [ad_1]

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday attacked the Sangh Parivar saying the RSS, which was banned after Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination, was now ruling the country giving scant regard to the nation’s constitutional values.

Vijayan, who paid tributes to Gandhi on his 75th death anniversary which is observed as Martyrs’ Day, said the whole idea of India was “wounded” when the father of the nation was killed by a “religious fanatic”.

In a Facebook post, Vijayan said Hindu nationalists always considered Gandhi as an enemy as he was “fully aware of the threats posed by majoritarian sectarianism”.

“The Hindu nationalists always considered him as an enemy. Gandhi stood for Hindu-Muslim harmony till his last breath. The India he envisioned is in every aspect antithetical to the Hindutva nation concept of the Sangh Parivar.

When Gandhiji was shot dead by a religious fanatic named Nathuram Vinayak Godse, the idea of India itself was wounded,” Vijayan wrote.

The Chief Minister said the Sangh Parivar was pursuing its political goals in the country by using hate and divisive politics.

“The RSS which was banned for Gandhi’s assassination is now ruling the country giving scant regard to the nation’s constitutional values… Today, in some parts, children are being taught that Gandhi died instead of Gandhi was killed.

This is another proof that the Sangh Parivar is always afraid of Gandhiji,” the Left leader said.

Vijayan said racists eliminated Gandhi for envisioning a secular India and remembering the father of the nation was India’s eternal antidote to the politics of communal division.

“On this day we should take a pledge that we are ready to fight to protect the constitution and secularism of the country,” Vijayan said.

Recently, Vijayan had accused the Sangh Parivar of treating Muslims and Christians as “enemies of the nation” and urged everyone to unite against such divisive actions, drawing sharp criticism from the BJP.

Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead by Nathuram Godse on this day in 1948.
