    SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday arrested two boys alleged of stalking, harassing and intimidating a girl in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

    On March 3, 2023, a girl was stalked and harassed by two boys, riding a scooty.  The boys had made lewd gestures and comments against the girl. The girl had posted about the incident on her social media account and subsequently also approached police post Nehru Park with a written application”, reads a statement issued to the news agency GNS.

    On receipt of the complaint, an FIR was lodged under relevant sections of the law in Ram Munshi Bagh Police Station against the accused boys.

    The two boys, the statement reads, were arrested by a team led by SI Syed Khalil, DO Nehru Park, under supervision of SDPO Nehru Park Mansha Beigh and a scooty bearing registration number JK01AG 5814 on which they committed the offence has been seized as well.

    The duo will be produced in Court for getting their police remand, reads the statement.

    Meanwhile, DIG Sujeet Kumar of Central Kashmir Range and Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar City Ajaz Asad congratulated for taking quick action.

    DC Srinagar in a tweet, as per GNS wrote; “Prompt action by @SrinagarPolice. Miscreants arrested. Two wheeler seized. Such elements will not be spared and shall face action under the law. We are here to keep Srinagar city absolutely safe for everybody.” (GNS)

    Mahasamund: A 13-year-old girl was seriously injured after she was thrashed and a burning piece of wood was thrust into her mouth in an ashram in Mahasamund district in Chhattisgarh, a police official said on Friday.

    Three persons were arrested on Thursday for alleged involvement in the crime, which took place on February 24 in Jai Gurudev Manas Ashram in Paterapali village under Bagbahra police station limits, said Ajay Shankar Tripathi, Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP).

    “The complaint was lodged on February 28 by the victim’s brother. Those arrested include the ashram’s operator-cum-head guru. As per initial probe, the child, from Abhanpur area in Raipur district, was brought to the ashram for treatment of some mental ailment though ‘jhaad-phoonk’ (exorcism),” the SDOP said.

    “After her brother left her at the ashram and returned home, three ‘sevadars’ (volunteers) thrashed the girl after an argument broke out over offering ‘bhog’. The three inserted a piece of burning wood inside her mouth, causing serious burn injuries. They threatened her kin to not report the matter to anyone,” he added.

    The brother of the victim told reporters the three men accused the teen girl of mixing poison in the ‘bhog’.

    The three have been charged under Indian Penal Code sections 307 (attempt to murder), 294 (obscene acts), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC, with section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) also slapped against the operator-cum-head guru, the official informed.

    “The girl was first admitted in a hospital in Bagbahra and then shifted to a medical facility in Arang in Raipur. We have found a lot of people visit the ashram for ‘jhaad-phoonk’ and such methods of treatment,” Tripathi said.

    The Mahasamund superintendent of police (SP) has ordered inspection of ashrams where such kinds of treatment was being provided, while the state revenue department has asked for details about the ashram in question, its land and other operational details, the SDOP said.

    Hyderabad: In yet another crime against girls in Hyderabad, a 40-year-old man misbehaves with a five-year-old from his neighborhood.

    As per the details of the case, the man lured the girl child with chocolates and biscuits before taking her to a secluded spot in Hyderabad where he misbehaved with her.

    Police arrested accused for misbehaving girl child in Hyderabad

    However, when the girl raised an alarm, the locals caught and thrashed the man before handing him over to the police.

    Based on a complaint registered by the victim’s mother, Saifabad police, Hyderabad registered a case under the charges of misbehaving with the girl child and arrested the accused persons.

    The incident once again highlights the need for ensuring the safety and security of children, especially young girls.

    In order to protect children from sexual offenses, Parliament enacted POCSO Act in 2012.

    What is POCSO Act?

    The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was enacted to protect children aged below 18 years from various sexual offenses.

    Under the act, any person aged below 18 years irrespective of gender is a child. The act broadly classified sexual offenses against the child into five.

    1. Penetrative sexual assault
    2. Aggregative penetrative sexual assault
    3. Sexual assault
    4. Aggregative sexual assault
    5. Sexual harassment

    The minimum punishment for penetrative sexual assault under POCSO Act is 10 years in jail if the offense is committed against a girl aged between 16-18 years.

    In the case of aggregative penetrative sexual assault, the minimum punishment under the act is 20 years.

    As per the act, the person who commits sexual assault on a child is punished with imprisonment of not less than three years whereas, the minimum punishment for the accused of aggregative sexual assault is five years.

    In case of sexual harassment, the accused is sent to jail for a term that may extend to three years.

    The sections of the act also apply to the accused who uses a child for pornographic purposes.

    Apart from specifying the offenses, the act also gave a detailed procedure for reporting cases, recording statement of the child, special courts, etc.

    From Hyderabad too, many persons were booked and sent to jail under the act for abusing girls.

    SRINAGAR : A boy and a girl jumped into river Jhelum in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, however, the girl was rescued immediately, while the body of the boy was retrieved later on.

    Quoting an official, news agency KNO reported that the duo jumped in the river Jhelum this afternoon.

    He said the girl was rescued, while the search for the boy was started immediately.

    Confirming the retrieval of the body a police official identified the deceased as Suhail Ahmad Parry, son of Noor Mohd Parray, a resident of Sangri Colony Baramulla.

    “The body of the boy was retrieved and taken to a nearby health facility for medico-legal formalities, following which it will be handed over to the family for last rites”, the official further said.

    A rescue operation was initiated at Dewan Bagh foot Bridge, near Gulnaar Park, in Baramulla soon after news about the drowning of the duo spread in the area and NDRF assisted by police and locals retrieved the body.

    Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident.

    New Delhi: A three-and-half-year-old girl was killed after being allegedly hit by a car driven by a senior Indian Air Force officer’s son in southwest Delhi’s Cantonment area, police said on Monday.

    The accused is a first year college student in a private college and has been arrested, they said, adding that the accident took place on Sunday.

    Police reached the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital after receiving information about the accident of the girl, a resident of Arjun Vihar in Delhi Cantt, a senior police officer said. He added that the girl was declared dead on reaching the health facility.

    Prelimiary investigation revealed that the car was travelling at a high speed and hit the girl who came in the middle of the road, an official said.

    Police seized the Hyundai Creta and its driver Samark Malik (20), a resident of Arjan Vihar in Delhi Cantt, has been arrested, officials said.

    Samark is the son of an IAF group captain, police said.

    Based on the complaint of the girl’s mother, a case under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the Delhi Cantt police station, the officer said.

    It was found that Malik first took the injured girl and her family to the Delhi Cantt Hospital from where he took them to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital and later to the RML hospital where the victim girl was declared dead, police said.

    The mother of the victim works as a maid in Arjan Vihar area and her father does private jobs, they said.

    SRINAGAR: On February 24, 2023, Abdul Latif S/O Abdull Gani, a resident of Sumber Tehsil and District Ramban, filed a written plea in police station Dharamkund regarding the disappearance of his daughter, Rubeena Banoo D/O Abdul Latief R/O Sumber Tehsil and District Ramban, aged around 20 years old. As a result, a missing report was entered in the daily diary under DDR 12 of the 24th of February 2023.

    Acting swiftly on the information, a wireless message about the missing girl was broadcasted to all Police Stations/Police Posts of J&K through wireless. And Special Police Teams were constituted to trace out the missing girl which was led by Insp Manoj Kumar, SHO PS Dharamkund and assisted by PSI Vinod  Saini and  other police officials . After hectic efforts and with the assistance of technical staff, the missing girl was traced out on 25/02/2023. Finally, the missing girl was handed over to her family after completing all the legal formalities, Ramban Police tweeted.

    The entire search was effected by police team headed by Inspector Manoj  Kumar  SHO  PS Dharamkund under the supervision of Dy.SP Sh Nihar Ranjan SDPO Gool and under the overall supervision of Ms Mohita Sharma IPS, SSP Ramban.

    Criminal wanted in several bank heists held in Bihar's Purnea

    Jammu: Two people, including a Madrasa teacher, were arrested for allegedly kidnapping a 16-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Sunday.

    The girl, who was pursuing Arabic studies in the Madrasa, was rescued and handed over to her family after completion of legal formalities, a police spokesperson said.

    The main accused Bilal Ahmad of Doda’s Bathari village, who was the ‘moulvi’ (prayer leader) at the religious school, was arrested during the rescue operation in Ramban’s Ramsoo area, the official said.

    Ahmad’s neighbour Riaz Ahmad was also arrested from Doda’s Gandoh village, the spokesperson said.

    The police swung into action after the father of the girl lodged a complaint at the Rakh Amb Talli police post, stating that his daughter had been kidnapped by Ahmad five months ago, the spokesperson said.

    Police registered a case under relevant sections of law and started investigation and ultimately recovered the girl and arrested the accused, the spokesperson said.
