Amit Shah says Congress will take Karnataka into ‘reverse gear’

Dharwad: Lashing out at the Congress in poll-bound Karnataka on Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the former would put the state into “reverse gear”, depriving it of the benefits of “double-engine sarkar”.

Addressing a rally at the Navalgund Assembly constituency on Friday, Shah said, “One hand, there is the Congress under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and on the other, is the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. This (Karnataka Assembly) election is an opportunity for you to decide if you want a double engine sarkar led by PM Modi, which will take Karnataka forward, or the Congress’s reverse gear sarkar, which will take Karnataka backwards.”/

Earlier, on Friday, the BJP’s star campaigner addressed a gathering at Shirahatti where he said each vote to the BJP will go to protecting the state from the banned outfit Popular Front of India (PFI).

“Each vote counts. So ensure that it goes to the right leadership. When you cast a vote in favour of lotus (the BJP’s symbol), you will not vote to elect an MLA or a minister or Chief Minister. Your vote will further strengthen PM Modi’s hands in creating a ‘Mahan Karnataka’. Your vote will protect Karnataka from the PFI.”

Further hitting out at the Congress over its national president Mallikarjun Kharge’s “poisonous snake” barb at PM Modi, the Union Home Minister said, “The whole world admires Modi-ji. But see the level that the Congress and its leadership has stooped to.

The remarks made by their leaders about Modi-ji are utterly shameful. Kharge-ji called Modi-ji a ‘venomous snake’. Can you vote for such a party?” he said.

The polls for the 224-seat assembly will take place on May 10 and the counting of votes will be held on May 13

Hyderabadi haleem won ‘Most Popular GI award’

Last year, Hyderabadi Haleem won the ‘Most Popular GI’ award, beating other food items such as Rasgulla, Bikaneri Bhujiya, and Ratlami Sev.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry selected the dish for the award based on public opinion. The voting was done between August 2 and October 9 to choose the dish.

Srinagar Incident: Now RTO Kashmir Suspends Registration Mark of Two-wheeler for Plying Without Gear

Srinagar, Mar 5 (GNS): Hours after Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested a duo for allegedly stalking and intimidating a girl in Srinagar, Regional Transport Officer has ordered for immediate suspension of the Registration Mark of the two-wheeler, used in the commission of offence, for plying without gear.

“In view of the complaints on social media and other verified reports and also in view of the fact that an FIR number 35/2023, Dated 05-03-2023 under Section 341, 506, 509, 294, 354D of IPC has been registered in the Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh Srinagar, I am of the considered opinion that Motor Cycle Without Gear (MCWOG) bearing Registration Mark JK01AG-5814 (Owned by Mr. Peerzada Sajad Arif son of Haji Shareef-u-Din, resident of Kwajapora, Srinagar) has been used in commission of the cognizable offence and an act which is likely to cause nuisance and danger to the public and has, therefore, failed to comply with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and the Rules made there under”, reads an order, a copy of which lies with GNS.

“Therefore, in exercise of the powers vested in me under Section 53 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, the Registration Mark JK01AG-5814 is, hereby, suspended with immediate effect”, the order further reads.

The Police in a statement issued earlier, maintained, “On 4-03-2023, a girl was stalked and harassed by two boys, riding a scooty. The boys had made lewd gestures and comments against the girl. The girl had posted about the incident on her social media account and subsequently also approached police post Nehru Park with a written application. On receipt of the complaint, an FIR was lodged under relevant sections of the law in Ram Munshi Bagh Police Station against the accused boys.”

The accused duo was arrested on Sunday and the two-wheeler used by them in the commission of crime also seized by a police team. (GNS)

Authorities gear up to raze Secunderabad building gutted in fire

Hyderabad: Municipal authorities in Hyderabad are gearing up to demolish six-storeyed commercial building which was gutted in a huge fire last week while rescue workers have still not found any remains of two missing persons.

Nearly a week after the fire incident, the rescue workers continued to look for remains of the missing persons in the huge rubble.

Skeletal remains of one person were found on January 21 and the same were preserved at Gandhi Hospital for DNA analysis.

Three workers Waseem, Zaheer and Junaid were reported missing after a huge fire broke out in the building. Some survivors said the three persons had gone to collect their belongings but were trapped.

A massive fire broke out on January 19 in the building housing the garment store at Nallagutta on Minister Road in Secunderabad.

Two fire service officers were injured while trying to douse the fire, which raged for almost two days.

After the fire, the building’s structural strength has been severely compromised. With experts advising for demolishing the building, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has initiated the process.

The municipal body has called for bids to pull down the building. It issued a tender notice on an emergency basis with Wednesday as the deadline to submit the bids.

GHMC wants the interested party to use the latest technology in pulling down the structure to avoid collateral damage to adjoining structures. The tender value has been fixed at Rs 33.86 lakh for demolition of 1,890 square metres structure, transport of debris and exercise of safety precautions.

According to officials, GHMC will charge the owner with the cost of demolition. The owner had constructed two upper floors without permission and no firefighting equipment was installed inside.
