Woman Mauled By Bear While Working In Kitchen Garden

SRINAGAR: A 39-year-old woman was critically injured after being attacked by a black bear in Lolab area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district this afternoon.
Shaheena Begum wife of Abdul Ahad Shah, a resident of Gangbugh Lolab was attacked by a black bear while she was busy working in her kitchen garden. The woman sustained grievous injuries in the incident and was immediately evacuated to SDH Sogam for treatment.
Quoting locals, GNS reported that a group of locals in the meantime rued the lackadaisical approach of Wildlife Department officials. “There are two black bears roaming in the human habitation for almost a week now and despite informing the Wildlife Department officials about this, no action has been taken so far”, they said.
“There is every apprehension that the presence of the bears may cost us precious lives if not neutralized timely”, they said adding “We again reiterate the authorities concerned to look into the matter to allay the terror created by the wild animal.”

In 33 Days, 3.7 Lakh Visitors Throng Tulip Garden

SRINAGAR: Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip garden, located on the foothills of Zabarwan mountain range, turned out to be a major tourist attraction in Kashmir this year with over 3.7 lac visitors from far and wide thronging the garden to enjoy the diverse hues of nature at display.
The Tulip garden spanning over an area of 30 hectares (74 acres) has on a year-to-year basis pulled record number of visitors from all across be it the local, the national or the foreigners.
The figures suggest that a total of 377201 tourists of which 315266 included domestic, 3259 foreigners and 58676 locals visited the garden over a period of 33 days – after thrown open to visitors on March 19,2023 upto April 20, 2023.
As per an official, the footfall this season was the highest ever. “We had 3.6 lakh tourists visiting the garden last year and this year it saw an increase making it the highest ever footfall in the history of this garden”, the official told GNS adding the period of tulip bloom this season lasted for 33 days, as compared to last year’s 27 day period, largely due to mild weather conditions.
“There were 68 varieties of tulips on display in the garden this season, out of these varieties, four new ones were introduced this year: Hamilton, Sweetheart, Cafe Noir and Christmas Dream”, the official said.
Expressing his satisfaction over the record number of visitors, the official further said the enormous flow of Tourists from within and outside the country motivates us and imbues in us courage to do more to make the visit to the garden a memorable experience.

Tulip Garden To Be Closed For General Public From April 21: Dir Floriculture

SRINAGAR: As the tulip bloom is almost over, authorities have decided to close the garden for the general public from Friday.
Director Floriculture Kashmir in a statement said that the Tulip garden shall remain closed for general public from Friday.
“As the Tulip Bloom is almost over, the Tulip Garden, Srinagar shall remain closed for general public w. e. f 21.04.2023, ” it said.
A record 3.65 lakh tourists including locals had visited the garden since its opening on March 19.

Tulip Garden to be closed for public from tomorrow

Srinagar, Apr 20: Tulip Garden in Srinagar, which is one of the major tourist attractions in Kashmir, will be closed for general public from tomorrow.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that as the Tulip bloom is almost over, the garden will be closed from tomorrow.
The garden, which is located at the foothills of the Zabarwan Range, was opened for tourists on March 25 this year. During this period, tourists from different parts of the country thronged to the garden to witness Tulip blooms.
Floriculture officer Shayiq Rasool told KNO that Tulip Garden witnessed an overwhelming response from the visitors, especially during the Tulip festival.
He said with the end of the Tulip Bloom season, the authorities have decided to close the garden for general public from tomorrow—(KNO)

Tulip Garden Records Highest-Ever Tourist Footfall This Season

SRINAGAR: Tulip Garden in Srinagar has recorded the highest-ever tourist footfall this season as over 3.60 lakh people from different countries and states visited the garden in the last 30 days.
Shayiq Rasool, Floriculture Officer, Tulip Garden t said that a total of 3,65,624 people visited the garden so far from March 20 to April 18.
He said that of total 3.60 lakh visitors, 58,600 were locals while 3,03,870 were from different states of the country, adding that 3154 foreign tourists also visited the garden in the last 30 days.
The officer said that it is for the first time that such a massive rush of visitors has been witnessed at the garden. “Tulip garden has witnessed a record-breaking tourist footfall this season,” he said.
Pertinently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet a few days ago said that Jammu and Kashmir is beautiful, and even more so during the Tulip season.
Tulip garden was thrown open by the authorities for the general public on March 19 while the administration in wake of the rush of the visitors had also issued traffic advisory to ensure that there is no inconvenience to the people.

Hyderabad airport wins two awards at 7th Garden Festival- 2022

Hyderabad: GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) bagged two awards at the recently concluded 7th Garden Festival- 2022, organized by the Department of Horticulture, and the government of Telangana.
The team bagged first place in two categories – landscape and traffic island maintenance. Senior officials from GHIAL on Sunday received the awards from the Telangana minister for agriculture and horticulture, S Niranjan Reddy, at an event organized at the Public Gardens, Nampally, Hyderabad, in the presence of other participants and government officials.
GHIAL received the first prize in the following 2 categories –

Landscape gardens maintained by Private companies (Over 90 acres)
Traffic Islands and dividers maintained by Private companies
Several eminent organizations like Ramoji Film City, Pragati Resorts, Alankrita Resorts, Celebrity Club and recognised IT organizations competed for these coveted prizes.
The winners were judged by a panel of eminent horticulturists and senior horticulture officials from the government of Telangana after a detailed inspection.
