New Delhi: Jailed gangster Tillu Tajpuriya, an accused in Delhi’s Rohini court shootout case was killed allegedly by rival gang members in Tihar jail, prison officials said on Tuesday.

According to the prison officials, Tillu Tajpuriya was immediately taken to Delhi’s Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where he was declared dead.

“This morning around 7am, information was received from DDU Hospital regarding two Undertrial prisoners who were brought to the hospital from Tihar Jail. One of them, Sunil alias Tilu was brought in an unconscious state.

He was declared brought dead later. Another person, Rohit is undergoing treatment and is out of danger,” Akshat Kaushal, Additional DCP West District, Delhi Police said.

The police said that a prisoner named Yogesh Tunda, who was lodged in Jail No. 8 and other members of the rival gang attacked Tillu, who was lodged in Jail No. 9 with an iron grill.

“Yogesh alias Tunda and Deepak alias Teetar attacked Tillu Tajpuriya by breaking the iron grills of the ward which separated both gangs in the same ward,” the official said.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.

On September 24 last year, two shooters shot and killed Jitendra Gogi in Rohini Court No. 207 during a shootout.

Sources had said in September last year, a day before the Rohini shootout, (shooters) Umang and Jagdeep took weapons from a crook named Rakesh Tajpuria in Murthal.

“Then on the same day, Umang and Jagdeep took the dress of lawyers from a person near AIIMS. Meanwhile, Tillu was in constant touch with both of them through WhatsApp calls from jail,” sources said.

Recently, Tillu’s name cropped up during the investigation of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a terror case.

His killers are alleged to be the members of the Jitender Gogi gang.

  • Two more journalists killed in Haiti as gang violence continues to rage

Two more journalists killed in Haiti as gang violence continues to rage

    [ad_1]

Two more journalists have been killed in Haiti in the past month as rampant gang violence has gripped the capital of Port-au-Prince and surrounding areas.

Ricot Jean, who worked for Radio-Tele Evolution Inter was found dead on Tuesday, a day after he was reportedly kidnapped by men wearing police uniforms. Jean was a prominent cultural activist in the Haitian capital and hosted a weekly radio show.

Meanwhile, the Committee to Protect Journalists said in a statement that radio reporter Dumesky Kersaint was fatally shot in mid-April. Kersaint was reportedly killed by a stray bullet “between the evening of April 15 and the morning of April 16” in the Mahotiere 83 neighborhood in the municipality of Carrefour.

“The security crisis in the country is putting journalists at a constant risk of extreme violence. It is the authorities’ responsibility to make sure reporters can do their jobs without fear of violence,” said Carlos Martínez de la Serna, CPJ’s program director.

The National Association of Haitian Media also condemned the killings, adding that the “climate of tolerated and fueled violence” led to Kersaint’s death. He was an online journalist for Radio Tele Inurep, according to local media reports.

At least two other journalists have been killed in the troubled Caribbean country this year amid an unprecedented surge in gang violence.

John Wesley Amady and Wilguens Louissaint were killed by gang members while reporting in a conflictive area south of Port-au-Prince in January.

At least nine journalists were killed in Haiti last year, the deadliest year for Haitian journalism in recent history, according to Unesco.

Between January and March the UN human rights office counted 531 killings, 300 injuries and 277 kidnappings in gang-related incidents, mostly in Haiti’s gang-dominated capital.

Haiti’s predicament is rooted in hundreds of years of foreign exploitation, decades of dictatorial rule under the Duvalier dynasty, and a string of natural disasters including a 2010 earthquake that levelled Haiti’s capital and killed more than 200,000 people.

But the current crisis intensified in 2021 when Haiti’s president, Jovenel Moïse, was assassinated in his Port-au-Prince mansion. Since then, politically powerful gangs have commandeered more than 60% of the capital, elements of the resource-starved police force have gone into open revolt, and Haitian politics has been consumed by infighting.

Hyderabad gang rape case: High Court sets aside POCSO court order

    [ad_1]

Hyderabad: Telangana High Court on Tuesday set aside an order of POCSO Court for treating one of the minor accused in the Jubilee Hills gang rape case as major.

On a petition filed by one of the minor accused challenging the POCSO Court order, the High Court delivered its judgment. With the High Court’s order, the sensational case will now be tried with four accused as majors and two accused as minors.

In September last year, the lower court had ruled that four of the five minors involved in the case can be tried as majors in view of the graveness of the crime.

    MS Education Academy

Six accused including a major were arrested in June last year for the gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in a car in posh Jubilee Hills neighbourhood of Hyderabad.

The accused had trapped the victim after a daytime party at a bar and after offering a lift sexually assaulted her.

The crime was committed on May 28 but came to light only on May 31 after the victim’s father lodged a complaint with the police. The case had triggered national outrage.

Five accused including the son of a leader of the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (TRS) have been charged with gang rape while sixth accused, who is the son of a legislator of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), is facing molestation charges.

Saduddin Malik and four minors were booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 376 D (gang rape), 323 (causing hurt), Section 5 (G) (gang penetrative sexual assault on child) read with Section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 366 (kidnapping a woman) and 366 A (procuration of a minor girl) and Section 67 of Information Technology Act.

The sixth minor was not involved in rape but he kissed the victim in the car. He was booked under IPC Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 and Section 9 (G) read with 10 of POCSO Act.

On June 28, police filed a charge sheet both in Nampally Criminal Court and Juvenile Justice Board as five of the six accused in the case were minors.

The police, however, made a plea to the Juvenile Justice Board to allow the minors to be treated as majors for trial in view of the serious nature of the offence. In September, the Board gave its nod and later the POCSO Court also ruled in its favour.

All the accused are currently on bail.
