Rahul Gandhi’s Rape Statement In Kashmir, Delhi Police Seeks Details

    [ad_1]

SRINAGAR: In an interesting development, Delhi Police is seeking details of the statement Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made in Srinagar during the conclusion of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, more than three fortnights ago. A police team is visiting the Gandhi scion’s Delhi residence to seek information for a mandatory follow-up.

“Rahul Gandhi gave a statement in Srinagar on January 30 that during the Yatra he met several women and they told him that they had been raped,” Special CP Law and Order Sagar Preet Hooda told reporters outside Gandhi’s Delhi residence. “We are trying to get details from him so that justice can be given to victims”.

Hooda said it was important for the police to know whether any woman from Delhi eyed her message to Rahul Gandhi. “There might be a possibility of the involvement of minors also,” he said, insisting that, in that case, the law will have to take its own course. And justice can be delivered.

Police said they sent two notices to Gandhi on March 15 and March 16, seeking a meeting to gather the details. Police said they waited for hours to get a chance to meet the opposition leader.

“In one particular case, I asked a girl, she had been raped, I asked her should we call the police, she said that don’t call the police then I will be shamed,” Gandhi had said in Srinagar, according to the Delhi Police.

Congress has reacted by saying they will respond to the notices in due course f time. “We will respond to the notice in the due course per law,” Congress tweeted. “This notice is yet another proof of a govt in panic and their latest salvo to weaken democracy, women empowerment, freedom of expression and role of the opposition.”

LS adjourned for day amid protests over Rahul Gandhi’s ‘democracy’ remarks

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day on Friday due to slogan shouting by the opposition and protests by the ruling party members over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s “democracy-under-attack” remarks made in London recently.

This was for the fifth consecutive day that the House did not function ever since the second part of the budget session began on March 13.

As soon as the Lok Sabha assembled for the day, some Congress members trooped to the Well of the House shouting slogans and demanded that Gandhi be allowed to speak in the House.

They also demanded a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into alleged stock manipulation by the Adani Group, a business conglomerate headed by industrialist Gautam Adani.

The members of the treasury benches also raised counter-slogans from their seats, demanding an apology from Gandhi for his remarks.

The turmoil continued for about 20 minutes, with Speaker Om Birla urging the members to allow the House to function smoothly.

“Honourable members, I appeal to you to allow the House to run smoothly. People did not send you here to do this. I will give everyone an opportunity to speak, but the House has to be in order,” he said.

The protesting members ignored his pleas and the speaker adjourned the House for the day. It will meet again on March 20.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and several other Union ministers were present in the House.

During his interactions in London, Rahul Gandhi had alleged that the structures of Indian democracy are under attack and there is a “full-scale assault” on the country’s institutions.

The remarks triggered a political slugfest, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accusing Gandhi of maligning India on foreign soil and seeking foreign interventions, and the Congress hitting back at the ruling party by citing instances of Prime Minister Narendra Modi raising internal politics abroad.

BJP MP demands termination of Rahul Gandhi’s LS membership

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Friday sought termination of Rahul Gandhi’s membership from Lok Sabha while deposing before a parliamentary panel over his privilege notice against the Congress leader.

Following Gandhi’s speech in the first part of the Budget Session, in which he commented on the Hindenburg-Adani issue, Dubey moved the privilege notice against him on February 7.

Presenting his case before Lok Sabha’s privilege committee chaired by BJP MP Sunil Singh, Dubey said despite Gandhi’s remarks expunged by Lok Sabha Speaker, they are still available on his and Congress official YouTube channels.

“Not only one but three types of privilege apply to him, and he is habitual offender and therefore his membership should be terminated,” a source quoting Dubey said.

Dubey also presented documents and reports to substantiate his point that all allegations made by Gandhi are baseless.

He cited expulsion of Subramanian Swamy 1976 from Rajya Sabha to buttress his demand for Gandhi’s termination.

Dubey also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is Lok Sabha member and leader of House and without notice one cannot make allegations against him.

Archana Gautam’s father Gautam Buddha had registered a case against Vadra’s PA Sandeep Singh at Partapur police station in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh under sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and also under sections 3(1)(d) and 3(1) of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

  • Pegasus not in Rahul Gandhi’s phone but in his mind: MP CM Chouhan

Pegasus not in Rahul Gandhi’s phone but in his mind: MP CM Chouhan

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: Hitting out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his claim of being snooped on through Israeli spyware Pegasus, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday said that Pegasus is not in the phone, rather it is in the mind of Rahul Gandhi.

Addressing the media here, CM Chouhan said, “Pegasus is not in the phone, it is in the mind of Rahul Gandhi. Pegasus has entered the DNA of the Congress. I pity for his (Rahul Gandhi) intelligence. He goes to foreign countries and makes statements against our country. He talks anti-India by going to foreign embassies. It is a new agenda of the Congress to defame India in foreign countries.”

Criticising the country abroad is an anti-national step. Therefore, the country and the people will never forgive Rahul Gandhi, he added.

Rahul Gandhi, recently in a lecture at Cambridge University, claimed that his phone was being spied on through Pegasus, an Israeli spyware, and that he was warned by intelligence officers to be ‘careful’ about what he speaks on calls.

“I had Pegasus on my phone. A large number of politicians had Pegasus on their phones. I have been called by intelligence officers who told me, ‘Please be careful about what you are saying on the phone because we are sort of recording the stuff’. So this is the constant pressure that we feel. Cases on the opposition. I have got a number of criminal liable cases for things that should under no circumstances be criminal liable cases. That’s what we are trying to defend,” the Congress leader said in his address.

CM Chouhan further slammed former CM Kamal Nath over raising questions on Mukhyamantri Ladli Behna Yojana.

Chouhan said, “I am asking very responsibly today and Nath has to answer. I asked earlier as well but did not get an answer. In 2017, we started depositing Rs 1,000 in the bank accounts of women belonging to Baiga, Bharia and Sahariya tribes. So that their children in the family can be nurtured properly.”

“We deposited Rs 1,000 in the accounts of the women till our government remained in power in the state which was till 2018. As soon as the Congress government came to power, why did you (Nath) stop depositing Rs 1,000 to the accounts of Baiga, Bharia, Sahariya sisters? Today these women are asking you a question,” he added.

Besides, the chief minister said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that Indore is an era that goes ahead of time. Indore has made another innovation, we had seen ambulances for humans, ambulances for animals, but now tree ambulances have been started in Indore for taking care of trees.”

If any plant gets sick in the gardens or on the roadsides, then this ambulance will take care of the plants in the city. They will spray insecticide. On receiving a call, this ambulance reaches to treat the plants, Chouhan said.

Army pushed back Chinese under Rajiv Gandhi’s leadership: Cong chief Kharge

    [ad_1]

Chennai: The Army under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi valiantly fought and pushed back the Chinese in 1987 along the border and it is important that the Congress became strong once again for a progressive India, party president Mallikarjun Kharge said on Thursday.

After laying a wreath at the memorial of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at Sriperumbudur near here, Kharge traced the late leader’s services to the nation.

“In 1986, Rajiv Gandhi granted statehood to Arunachal Pradesh despite Chinese opposition. Later, in 1987, during the military standoff in Tawang, the Indian government ensured that we did not give up our claims along the border. Thus, Indian Army under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi valiantly fought and pushed back the Chinese,” Kharge said.

For the unity, integrity and progress of the country, it is important that the Congress should become strong once again, he said in a statement released here by the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee.

It is only the Congress party that can build a modern and progressive India. “In this fight for building a modern and progressive India, Rajiv Gandhi will always remain a source of inspiration for the Congress party and the youth of our country,” Kharge added.

Mohua Moitra hits back at Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Trinamool-BJP’ comment

    [ad_1]

Shillong: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Thursday hit back at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for calling her party the BJP’s “B team”.

Talking to reporters her, she said: “The monopoly of national parties in the country’s politics has ended.”

She asserted that there would be no chance for democracy in India if Trinamool was forced to rely on a two-party system.

“The Trinamool has fought the CPI-M for the previous 34 years, and we won West Bengal for the third time in a row,” she said.

Moitra also took a pot-shot on the recent war of words between the state’s ruling National People’s Party and its former ally, the BJP.

“Today (Chief Minister) Conrad Sangma might say something negative about (Union Home Minister) Amit Shah, and the Union Minister may respond to this. But once the election is over, they will be brothers again,” she said, urging voters not to fall in the trap of NPP and BJP.

“Despite the NPP-BJP combine in the state, Meghalaya did not witness development in the last five years.”

According to Moitra, her Trinamool is there to provide a good alternative to the people of Meghalaya.

Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on Adityanath is attack on Hindutva: Seer council chief

    [ad_1]

Ballia: Shankaracharya Parishad chief Swami Anand Swaroop on Wednesday hit out at Rahul Gandhi, saying his recent remarks on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was an attack on Hindutva.

On Monday, Congress leader Gandhi asserted that no religion talks about spreading hate and said Adityanath cannot be a religious leader for the language he uses.

During an interaction with civil society members on the recently-concluded Bharat Jodo Yatra in Delhi, Gandhi had alleged that Adityanath was “insulting” the history of his Gorakhnath Math by the kind of language he was using.

“I am sorry, he (Adityanath) is not a religious leader, he is a common thug,” Gandhi, was quoted as saying by an attendee at the meeting, which was not open to the media.

In a video released on Facebook, Swaroop said, “Calling a ‘siddh mahant’ and yogi of a ‘siddh peeth’, who has no one of his own, a thug will not be tolerated. Yogi Adityanath is chief minister later, first he is a seer and a monk of a ‘siddha peeth’.”

The chief the parishad, a council of seers, said that “an attack on a monk is an attack on Hindutva”.

Demanding that the Uttar Pradesh government immediately file a case against Gandhi, he said the Congress leader has insulted a “yogi” to serve his political motives.

Swaroop alleged that Gandhi’s remarks, will prove to costly for his party and him.

Alleging that Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is giving patronage to his party leader Swami Prasad Maurya, who had made remarks against the ‘Ramcharitmanas’ recently, Swaroop said that Maurya himself lost the assembly election and cannot steer the ship of the party.

“When Swami Prasad Maurya has become a Buddhist, how can he remain a Maurya now? How can he declare himself the leader of the backward class? Backward class is the soul of Hindutva,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi’s prediction about `Adani bubble’ came true: Digvijaya

    [ad_1]

Bhopal: Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Saturday said Rahul Gandhi had predicted that the meteoric rise in the share prices of Adani group firms was a “bubble” which would burst soon.

Adani group stocks have taken a beating on the bourses after US-based activist short-seller Hindenburg Research made a litany of allegations including fraudulent transactions and share price manipulation. The group has dismissed the charges as lies.

“A security personnel of the Lok Sabha told Rahul Gandhi that shares of Adani group were doing well. He (Gandhi) told him that it was just a bubble which would burst soon,” Singh said.

This was precisely what happened a month later, the Rajya Sabha leader added.

Incomes of most people fell during the coronavirus pandemic but the market capitalizations of capitalists soared, Singh said.

“It is hard to understand that when the market remained closed how the market capitalisation of businessmen skyrocketed,” he added.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had promised in 2014 that it would bring back black money stashed overseas but nothing happened in the last nine years, Singh said.

  • ED questions Rahul Gandhi’s aide in money laundering case against TMC’s Saket Gokhale

ED questions Rahul Gandhi’s aide in money laundering case against TMC’s Saket Gokhale

    [ad_1]

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate has questioned and recorded the statement of Alankar Sawai, a close aide of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in a money laundering case in which TMC spokesperson Saket Gokhale was recently arrested by the agency in Gujarat, officials said.

Sawai was questioned and also confronted with Gokhale in Ahmedabad over three days earlier this week, they said.

A former banker, Sawai is considered to be a close aide of Gandhi, a former Congress president, and is stated to be heading his research team.

The federal probe agency summoned Sawai after it arrested 35-year-old Gokhale on January 25 while he was in the Gujarat Police’s custody in connection with alleged financial irregularities in raising funds through a crowd funding platform.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), while seeking Gokhale’s remand on that day, had informed a Ahmedabad court that when he was asked about Rs 23.54 lakh deposited in his bank account in cash over a year, Gokhale had told the agency that “this amount was given in cash by Alankar Sawai of the India National Congress for social media work and other consultancy”.

On being asked as to why Sawai had paid him in cash, Gokhale stated that only Sawai can answer this question, the ED told the court in its remand paper.

“Further, on being asked regarding any written agreement with Alankar Sawai in respect of social media work he stated that it was only verbal agreement with Alankar Sawai,” the agency said.

The ED alleged that these cash deposits were recieved by Gokhale when he was a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Sawai is understood to have been questioned about these instances and his statement was recorded under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Official sources said the questioning and confronting of the two has not helped them unearth the fund trail as stated by Gokhale even as Sawai purportedly denied making any cash payments.

The money laundering case against Gokhale stems from a Gujarat Police FIR.

The state police arrested Gokhale from Delhi in December last year in a case of alleged misuse of money he had collected through crowd-funding.

The ED had informed the Ahmedabad court that “huge amount of money collected through crowd funding (by Gokhale) has been splurged on speculative share trading, wining and dining and other personal expenses which appear to be extravagant in nature.”

Gokhale, however, had denied that he misused these funds.

The agency may question more people linked in the case.
