New Delhi: Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi will hoist the national flag at party headquarters in Srinagar at the culmination of ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ on January 30, with all Pradesh Congress Committee offices following suit in solidarity with the Yatra.

Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal said the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which started in Kanyakumari on September 7, will conclude on January 30 in Srinagar after having covered 3,970 km, 12 states and two Union territories.

“The Bharat Jodo Yatra has received an overwhelming response from millions of people and has spread Rahul Gandhi’s message of love and unity among citizens of the country. The tremendous support from all sections of the society and heartfelt involvement of the people has made this a historic Yatra and a game changer in Indian politics,” he said in a statement.

Venugopal said to mark the culmination of Yatra, Gandhi will hoist the tricolour at PCC headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir in Srinagar at 10 am on January 30.

“As desired by the Congress president, all Pradesh Congress Committees (PCCs), District Congress Committees and Block Congress Committees will also hold flag hoisting functions at the same time on January 30 at their respective party offices or important sites in solidarity with the Bharat Jodo Yatra,” he said.

The Congress has also invited 23 political parties to participate in the Yatra on the concluding day as a mark of opposition solidarity.

  • Rahul Gandhi capable to be India’s PM: Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut

Rahul Gandhi capable to be India’s PM: Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut

    [ad_1]

Jammu: Shiv Sen (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi leading the Bharat Jodo Yatra is capable to be the prime minister of India and no third front will be successful sans the grand old party.

He said the purpose of Gandhi’s Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir is to remove the hatred and fear and not to unite the opposition parties under the banner of his party.

“Ideological and political differences apart, he (Gandhi) will show his leadership qualities and will be a big challenge (for the ruling BJP in 2024 general elections). He will make a miracle,” the Member of Parliament told reporters here.

Raut, who walked for nearly 13-km alongside Gandhi between Hatli Morh and Chandwal amid rain on Friday, said the BJP has spread a wrong notion about the Congress leader but this Yatra has busted all their myths about him.

“Why not?” he said when asked whether Gandhi is capable of becoming the prime minister of India.

“Not everyone can walk from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, covering a distance of over 3,500 kms. It needs a lot of determination and love for the country. He has shown his concern for the country and I do not see any politics in this Yatra,” the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader said.

However, he said Gandhi himself has been saying that he is not willing to be the prime minister but “when people want to see him on the top post, he will be left with no choice”.

Rejecting the idea of a third front without the Congress, Raut said the grand old party has a lot of weight and has presence in every nook and corner of the country. “No third front can be successful without Congress, this time it has a low number of MPs but the situation is going to change in 2024. Without the Congress, no front can be successful is a reality and this needs to be taken into account.”

“The main purpose of my visit to J and K was to join the Gandhi-led Yatra at the direction of my leader and I had a good experience walking alongside Gandhi. It is not a political Yatra,” he said.

Raut, who reached here on January 19 and also visited protesting Kashmiri Pandit and Dogra employees seeking relocation from Kashmir over the past six months following the targeted killings, said he was surprised to find out that J-K is faced with the same issues which were discussed by him over a decade ago.

“Governments changed and so the politics but whether it is an issue of Kashmiri Pandits, refugees, law and order situation, security concerns of the people and terrorism, the questions are still same,” he said, slamming the BJP for its “failure to turn Kashmir back into paradise” over the past eight years.

He said four years have passed but there is no assembly election even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government promised large scale investment, creation of jobs for unemployed and return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits.

About the party’s strategy for the next assembly elections whenever held in J-K, Raut said his party is open to a grand alliance provided it gets a respectable place. “Otherwise, we will go for polls alone as J-K is full of public issues which have remained unresolved for years.”

He said the BJP under Modi is a big party but “If you see barring a few states, it is dependent on other parties or divided its own coalition partners to stay in power.”

Bharat Jodo Yatra: Holding Hands, Rahul Gandhi walks with Rashami Desai, Akanksha Puri

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, was joined by Rashami Desai and Akanksha Puri on Saturday for another day of the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Social media has been flooded with images and videos of the trio after their joint symbolic stroll.

Rahul Gandhi is pictured in the middle of the image, with Rashami and Akanksha Puri standing next to him. While they walked together, he was holding their hands. All three of them can be seen grinning as they walk. Rashami responded to the tweet from Congress’ Twitter account by saying, “Such a wonderful and easy notion but the execution is so challenging…” She also added the hashtags “Shakti Walk” and “Bharat Jodo Yatra.” Akaksha also uploaded numerous pictures from the hike.

TV actor Rashami Desai has appeared in programmes like Uttaran and Bigg Boss. Additionally an actor, Akanksha Puri appeared in Mika Di Vohti. She triumphed on the show as well.

Before, Pooja Bhatt, Riya Sen, and others participated in the Maharashtra leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Veteran actor Amol Palekar took part in the Bharat Jodo Yatra on Sunday together with his wife, writer-director Sandhya Gokhale.

Parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra have previously been visited by the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Beginning on September 7 in Kanyakumari, the Bharat Jodo Yatra will conclude in Kashmir the following year. The Congress asserted earlier in a statement that it is the longest march on foot by any Indian politician in India’s history. Numerous political parties and social organisations around the nation are supporting the Bharat Jodo Yatra, and support is growing daily, it continued.

Bollywood star Sushant Singh, who joined Rahul Gandhi on the yatra, claimed that it was his first time attending a political gathering and that he wasn’t sure whether to participate or just watch. “Then I realised that the purpose of this gathering is to bring Bharat together. And given how many individuals spew hatred, this is crucial. You’ve decided to walk the path of love, “Speaking during the event, Sushant Singh stated. After Pooja Bhatt, Sushant Singh was the second well-known actor from Bollywood to join Bharat Jodo.

  • Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case: Supreme Court Orders Release Of All Convicts, Including Nalini And Ravichandran

Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case: Supreme Court Orders Release Of All Convicts, Including Nalini And Ravichandran

    [ad_1]

The Supreme Court ordered the release of all six remaining convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, including Nalini Sriharan, R P Ravichandran, Santhan, Murugan, Robert Payas, and Jayakumar, on Friday. The judgement was issued by a bench comprised of Justices BR Gavai and BV Nagarathna while considering the case of A G Perarivalan, another convict who was released in May.

Nalini, who is now on parole, petitioned the Supreme Court for early release from prison after the Madras High Court denied her plea. Her plea was submitted after the Supreme Court, on May 18, ordered the release of Perarivalan, who had served more than 30 years in prison, by exercising its special powers under Article 142 of the Constitution. The Article empowers the Supreme Court to issue orders in order to secure “complete justice” in a case. In seeking similar relief, Nalini cited Perarivalan’s case, according to a report by Indian Express.

On May 21, 1991, an LTTE suicide bomber assassinated former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi during an electoral meeting in Tamil Nadu’s Sriperumbudur.

In the case, seven prisoners were sentenced to life in prison. The Supreme Court sentenced four of them to death and three to life in prison in 1999. Nalini’s death sentence was commuted to life in prison in 2000. The Supreme Court commuted the other three death sentences, including Perarivalan’s, in 2014.
